All we have are the embers

Thanks to the 100+ peeps who stopped by the warmth of our Campfire on Wednesday night. We discussed William Muschamp's future, broken bones at Houston, bad wings at Hooters and Evan Woodbery's "wiry" figure.

I let you decide topics and this what you chose.

See you Thursday.

  4. I hate that I missed this.

  6. The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.- Bobby Knight

Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.- John Wooden

The first one is for CTF. The second is for this CTT. I don't think he gets that across very well

  7. I bet Woodbery could scrap if necessary.

    That man is dangerous.

  8. I didn't understand "counseling to real work...Very admirable". You can splain it to me next time you're in Chatroll.

  9. You produce something tangible. I think that is something important.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Is it just me, or do I sometimes have no idea what is going on?

    ReplyDelete
  11. oh - I did some important work as a therapist, but thank you.

  12. It's not just you, phreddie

  13. Wow. It seems like you guys really straightened some crap out. Sorry I missed it.

  14. ha ha ha ... she's good.

  15. I don't think that Therapists don't do important work. I just wish I had the ability to do things like you moved into. I was trying to pay you a compliment in my usual tactless way.

  16. Ok..I've given up on the Chicken Melt at Waffle House...

I'm going for the four pack of cheese Krystal's now..

    ReplyDelete
  17. lol no Denny! You're not tactless at all. Just chat confusion. I appreciate the compliment.

  18. I recommend the Chili at Krystals.

I prefer Cincinnati style chili my self, Skyline or Gold Star.

  21. chicken melt with smothered hash browns..... can't go wrong with that.

But Krystal burgers are winners too.

  22. I have finally worked up the courage to watch this Jan Terri thing. Can somebody re-post the link?

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh my ... that was ... wow.

I used to be in the music biz and I had some pretty awful stuff handed to me sometimes, but that is the all time nastiest I have ever seen. My personal favorite was "baby blues." You should check that one out. If I'm not mistaken, I think she is also the writer of the smash hits.

  24. watching that reminds me of the "fart smellin' syndrome."

Somebody lets one go, and no matter how hard you try not to, you just have to get a whiff.

  25. As for Jan Terri, I don't get it but I am certain I don't want it.

As for Jacobs, the comment about seeing the last four games seems to indicate that Tuberville is about to wrap up his Auburn tenure.

Don't give up the ship, but stand near the lifeboats. -- Steve From Columbia

You know, if Tubs is really put off by all this talk about job security what is stopping him from bolting Auburn? His attitude last year seemed really sketchy in regards to the A&M and Arkansas jobs. The way he left Ole Miss was also pretty questionable. Given what happened in 2003 he probably would still have the sympathy of the national media if he left AU, especially the way some have been criticizing AU and its fans for wanting Tub's head this year. I don't see him intentionally trying to hurt or put the university in bad shape, but a coach is going to do what makes him the most money.

If an opportunity arrises where Tubs can sneak out of here, I think he would in a heartbeat. The irony would be that Tubs is taking his fate away from all of those in power who are contemplating whether to keep him or not. All us fans who are debating whether the season is an aberration or a sign of things to come will just be left speechless when we are suddenly left without a coach.

I'm hoping Chris Peterson gets some consideration. He's 30-3 in 2.5 years as a HC with just as many BCS victories as Tubs. He's an offensive minded guy, and Auburn could pay him double what he's making now, and still be paying him less than Tubs. Plus, I would imagine after living in Idaho he wouldn't have any qualms about moving to another rural environment like say maybe a guy like Kiffin.

There is a lot that will happen over the next few weeks I just hope Auburn doesn't end up without a coach way late in the offseason when all the best candidates have already been signed on at new schools.

  28. kmo171, you make some good points. Actually you got me thinking that it may not be in Tuberville's best interest to salvage this season. After all, if he wants to leave, wouldn't he prefer to get let go and get the $6 Million pay check?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree, Jacobs comments seem very much in the vein of some of the wording Tub used at the end of last year when he was very non-committal.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Steve- Are you about to get on the lifeboat in place of kids and women? You saying Auburn's the Titantic? If so, I'll be the one of the guys playing the music.

kmo171- I don't see Tubs leaving Auburn now. I think that it would make more of TBTB happy if he decided to do that. I would be willing to wager if something happens, Auburn would already have its guy liined up to take the job.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, apparently I didn't miss much after I left except for the Woodbery discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I seriously do not think that Chris Peterson would be a good fit at Auburn, good coach or not. Auburn wants someone who will become that "Auburn Guy" and I just don't see that in him. You would be going from Chette Williams to Tom Cruise as spiritual advisor.

  33. All right everyone, I'm going to start out with a humorous read. This is a preview written about the 2008 Auburn Offense. Read the second to last paragraph. Hopefully this brings a smile.

    2008 Auburn Offense Loaded

    The best line.

Auburn is absolutely loaded on offense.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ben "Two Thousand" Tate.

How well did that prediction work out?

    That's great.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It should be more like this:

    Ben "Two Thousand" Ache

And staying with the Hooters theme - another good Headline from the morning.

Golfer John Daly detained after passing out drunk at Hooters in NC.

"There are no Tebows, no McFaddens (well, not of the Darran variety), no Calvin Johnson receivers either."

He got that part right for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seriously though, who would have thought we'd go 0 for October playing just three games against Vandy, Arkansas & WVU?

    ReplyDelete
  40. John Daly is a waste of talent. I would have loved to had his talent. They should ban him from the tour IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous7:56 AM

I saw West Va. as a possible problem, but not the other two, no.

    ReplyDelete
  42. RK- Nobody thought that for sure. But I don't know many who thought Auburn's offense was loaded either. I thought / hoped we would score more points, but never considered us a juggernaut.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I thought we'd have our struggles on offense against the good defensive teams.

I had us 10-2 (LSU and WVU being the losses) probably playing in Atlanta if we could get two teams to knock off LSU.

I never thought for a second we'd lose to Vandy or Arkansas. In fact I figured those games would be 35-7 type games. Little did I know it would be rare for us to get 2 TD's in a game, much less 5.

  44. I thought 740AM was a sports radio show? Didn't realize I was listening to Hannity.

  45. At least November is about to start, maybe that'll be the fresh start we need.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Is 970 the Fan the station with Hatin' with Jay G this morning?

If so, I can't get any audio from them.

That's Longshore. He gets on that tip from time to time.

I hope Barry McKnight can get him back on track in the next hour.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Here Here to November. May it be a good one!!!!!

Seriously, I say we win this weekend. Ole Miss is 4-4 also, granted they feel a heck of a lot better about it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. When was the last time we were an underdog to Ole Miss?

    2000?

In the spirit of the TF Mea Culpa:

Gang, last night's campfire was a sign of things around the Auburn nation.

We were all having a sloppy game, missing assignments and just looking lost.

We have to improve for the next run.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think Archie Manning was the QB? Even then, we may still have been favored, because Pat Sullivan was ours.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'll take some blame Mr. S.

I am just a dumba$$ - you can quote me on that by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Enjoyed the discussion last night guys and gals! I felt I was hit with some srious knowledge. Keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  55. In the words of Tony Franklin, I'm an idiot. I dont know what I'm doing. Sorry for the bad Campfire last night. Do we get do overs?

    ReplyDelete
  56. A few more sloppy campfires and Jay G. will tell us "to get lost".

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous8:28 AM

Let's hope we can avoid that scenario and get a vote of confidence from Jay G. based on our body of work.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I too will take some blame. I just couldn't see it through in the second half. I got complacent with our strong start and just quit on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I heard Jay G will evaluate after the season and make a decision then.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hatin' with Jay G is off today.

The Fan is having technical problems. Bummer. I like that show a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jay - you still thinking 75%? Sorry couldn't make the campfire last night so I'm trying to catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yep Jay G. we're tired...

    ReplyDelete
  63. So who on here is chipping into the Tubs be gone fund? :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. A second "jetgate" would be apocalyptic...

    ReplyDelete
  65. A second "jetgate" would mean a $12 Million dollar buyout.

    ReplyDelete
  66. UGH I lost the stream...

Just as well I guess. I gotta hit the road for beautiful Pell City in a bit. Hopefully I'll be back in time for the afternoon festivities.

    Have a good day hotties...

    ReplyDelete
  67. what, no HATE today? bummer. sorry i missed the campfire last nite. after working 2 jobs yesterday i had to spend time with the fam.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sorry Mr.S - It was my first campfire and I really dropped the ball. I was only in for a few plays, but I'll take the blame. I just wasn't used to the speed of the game; such a higher level than anything I've been in before.

Will anybody even read this now that a new thread has started?

There's so much here for a true freshman to grasp.
