RoF catch-all

Hey everyone. I thought each new member needed his own thread to distinguish himself, but I'm creating this thread for general discussion.

Thanks for a swell campfire today. Great turnout for such short notice.

We discussed the Tigers' mental state, Tuberville's love for Roy D. Mercer, Prechae Rodriguez's strong work in the CFL and Flight of the Conchords.

A good time had by all.

140 comments:

  1. that was a great catch by Prechae!

Jay, by most accounts CTT enjoys AU it is the power brokers he harbors the grudge against. IF that is correct could you see a situation where AU lets him go, he collects his buyout and goes into TV work instead of another coaching job? He could continue living in Auburn and commute to Atlanta and fly out on weekends for TV work and let his sons finish school then maybe land another coaching job. Totally off base or could you see something like this happening? Thanks in advance, best AU info on the net.

  8. Jay G,

After much research about your comments about me having a call into Lute Olson. My investigation has concluded that it was a fake Denny Crum that did that.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Fake Denny Crums run amok these days. It is hard to tell who is real. They say the fake ones float, the real one sinks. Let's go to a pool and figure this thing out. All fake Crums will be executed upon floating.

And Tim, I don't see Tubs doing TV work. Does anyone else? I don't know if he'd be too good at it. He would probably be a good TV CEO and bring in other people to do the analysis for him. He could then blame them and fire them if they get their analysis wrong.

  11. forgot the part from the SAA:

Members of the Auburn Alumni Association
    and Student Alumni Association,

This fall has turned out to be one of uncertainty: the price of gas, the stock market, the presidential election and, yes, even Auburn football. I love to win and be competitive just as much as every other Auburn fan does, but we all know there's much more to Auburn than winning and losing. Auburn is about family, education, spirit and tradition. Auburn is a notion worth believing in, and I invite you to join me in remaining faithful to our school, our creed and our Auburn family.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I could spend time explaining why Auburn is not a feeling or a person or a season or a time frame, but I don't want to make you mad Taylor.

(but for real, Auburn is a school. I believe in Auburn. But why wouldn't I? I have been there, why would I think it was fake like some sort of Denny Crum? I am certain it exists)

Finally got time to pour through the 75 pre ROF induction posts and the individual announcements and posts. Congrats again to the inductees.

Holy Hotness! JGT...this blog is smokin'. A lot of comments to pour through and tuff to find the time, but well worth it.

    Columbia Steve....nice song analogies.

Hope Kristina made it to the school on time. Gotta keep those Hottie rumors to a minimum.

I think the pros fixed Prechae's receiving fundamentals....don't get me started on that again.

Michael... I'm with you on CTT as a TV CEO. First analyst hire: Terry Bowden-he's got the name, but is a terrible analyst and no one will mind when he's fired. Sort of like Denture Clackin' Lou Holtz. When is Big Brother going to dump him anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I believe in work. hard work.

  16. ha lets go with existentialism and not be purely literal there michael

    ReplyDelete
  17. michael, that Denny Crum rant is friggin' fantastic. a classic if you will.

  20. I have been consistently inconsistent on my opinion of the Tuberville situation. One day I wake up and think he is gone. The next day I think he will stay. I think we will get a good idea on what will occur when we play Ole Miss. This Ole Miss team is very good, amazingly good compared with last year. Although I admired Coach Orgeron's, ummmm, unique speeking style, he just didn't seem to be able to use his talent. Nutt doesn't have that problem and I love his winning personality. What we see Saturday will be our last good indication of how we will do with Georgia. Currently I think the Georgia game will be "a date that will live in infamy", but you never can tell.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I had to have a trick or treak break. I was freezing!

Michael - you crack me up. Period.

Everybody - I know it's going to be tough over the next couple of weeks, but I hope everyone keeps working hard at sticking to the no politics or political references on the blog policy. There are lots of other places for you to talk politics. It just never ever ends well.

I yearn for the days when interviewees made it obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Any one care to hazard a guess on our run pass percentages against Ole miss?

I'll start the bidding at 70% Run 30% pass

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Tommy Tuberville Zen Scouting Report estimates 76% pass 83% run.

  32. One must pass to run, and run to pass. This is the way it must be.

    My guess - 50/50

But I am sure that we will "open it up a little" in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Phred- I love your profile pic, but it is really hard to take you seriously :). I agree about us opening it up in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So what happens when the ring of fire becomes too large? Should people be demoted from the Ring of Fire? I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but it has to remain somewhat exclusive. I ain't here to start no trouble, I'm just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am always serious. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'll keep it pretty exclusive, but the best HOTTIES will be rewarded.

    Sorry to hear that Monica.

I just got home from work myself.

I noticed where you said you guys were moving to Alabama in 09. Where to?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sensi: No.

    Texas: Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  49. dear leader: I had to zoom the page to 400% to see your pic.

    Now, I wish I hadn't done that.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nice zen stuff.

Do you think Phred by "opening it up" that we will run 3 straight east-west runs with Tate, and call that opening 'er up?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anybody watching Cincy and USF? Sickening all the way around. Grothe looks lost (not like against us) and Cincy is running the spread and hurry up and tempo, oh my (minus the 2 fumbles). Plus their QB has a broken non throwing hand.

    Throwing up in my mouth

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks for doing that, Phred. I've been wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I still don't know what "opening up" means. I said that with my tounge firmly planted in my cheek.

To me, "opening up" seems to mean ... "Well, I think we are going to come out in the second half and suck like a black hole. That's the plan."

    ReplyDelete
  54. Monica, you won't regret watching 30 rock. It's just about my favorite show.

To me, I think opening it up must mean running the same plays in the second half with less success. I think we can meet that goal.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Monica: it's the international playboy from North Korea who moonlights as a communist dictator - in his underwear and drinking heavily.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous8:39 PM

I hope we do not open it up in the 2nd half. If I recall Tubbs told the halftime reporter at WVU that we would open in up in the 2nd half. We go only 33 yards in the 2nd half. The only thing that opened were the holes in the defense.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I can't believe how much we're NOT talking about our game.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Mond, why would you ruin the mood and start talking about football?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Happy All Hallows Eve Eve everyone. What's the latests?

    ReplyDelete
  60. The latest is that we have completely run out of things to talk about and everyone is avoiding actually talking about football because nobody knows what to say that hasn't already been said, compounded by the fact that nobody actually has a good feeling about they game even though we are trying to be upbeat and positive, compounded compounded by the fact that nobody has any earthly idea what is going to happen because we have absolutely nothing to use a s a basis of judgement or prediction.

Other than that ... not too much.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My bad, Michael.

    30 Rock good stuff.

I want some scary stuff to watch next.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  65. Alrighty then...

I have a good feeling about the game, because I am a glutton for punishment. And I talk to Mr. Penny in the mornings who is SUPER FAN and is never down about anything. Ever. And he does 1000 push ups every day.

    You guys know Mr. Penny?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous9:01 PM

Interesting how as the AU season has gotten worse and the traffic on other AU blogs has declined, the HABOTN has exploded. It's a testiment to the hotties.

OR.....it could as simple as Phred's 8:46pm explanation.

BTW..Hate to sayit but Ole Myth is gonna win, so don't get upset.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous9:11 PM

    Something scary Monica?

    The West Virginia Second Half?
    The Mississippi State Game?
    The Tony Franklin Videos?

    ReplyDelete
  68. If you've been to the games, you've see him on the big screen.(and I have actually seen him on Tv for the Raycom games) He's the one that does the push-ups every time we score. He sits in the north (eek, is that north...the non-student) section.

He's a huge auburn fan. His truck is painted orange with AU logos/sayings. He works for Auburn City schools and is a crossing guard near the High School and one of the elementary schools. He high-5's everyone who walks by (even the angst ridden teens are happy to see him). He has signs on the corner that says "Mr. Penny say [sic] War Eagle!"

He's just one of those people who is always just happy to be alive and has a great spirit about him. You see him and can't be in a bad mood. And he loooves him some Auburn. It's infectious.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mr. S - Texas Tech beats Texas, then loses at least one game after, maybe 2. Penn State wins out and plays for MNC. bammer wins first 11 and then loses to AU. It turns into a disaster for the state as many bammers can't handle it and turn suicidal - some of them aren't found for days. bammer then gets destroyed by FL in SEC championship game (FL beats GA).

FL then clobbers Penn St for another MNC. AU finishes 7-5 and then wins the Pizza Bowl at Legion Field. I renege on promise made to self in 1985 to never set foot in Legion Field again and actually go to the game.

That's enough predictions for now; I'm exhausted after all that.

Congrats to those who got the big promotions today!

  75. Mr. Sensible- I believe Texas tech wins this game. I believe that this will be the 4th top 15 game in a row for them. It is hard to stay up for that many games in a row. Texas has been giving up points this year and I expect that trend to continue on. I also believe the big 12 is actually better than the SEC this year.

I've been saying it all week and I will continue to say that Auburn wins 24-17 this week.

    ReplyDelete

    Good pick, Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  78. Mr. S what's your Auburn prediction?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Eddie, everytime I have watched a Big12 game, it seems like there is absoluetly no defense whatsoever. Are the Big 12's offenses that awesome? I mean, it seems like every team can put up major points in that conference.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous9:30 PM

I am not sure why, but over his career Houston Nutt has been a thorn in Tommy Tuberville's side. Since 1999, Nutt has gone 5-5 with Tuberville including a couple of wins on the Plains with supposedly "less-talented" teams. The Rebels are much improved and they have some solid RBs that compliment former Texas QB Jevon Snead who's favorite target is Shay Hodge. It is very clear that Ed Orgeron left a cupboard full of talent for Nutt to coach in Oxford and a coach like Nutt is what the Rebs have needed.

As much as it bothers me, I have to be real with this pick as my head outweighs my heart again this week.

    Ole Miss 20 Auburn 10

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous9:31 PM

That hurts to write and pick that way, but I got to be real.

    ReplyDelete
  82. True, Kristina, Big 12 games are track meets.

Mr. S. - bitter medicine, you're probably right, but I hope you're wrong. I know you hope you're wrong too.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous9:35 PM

If I am wrong, Mon. I will be the first on here to admit it and I'll be very happy.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Sensi, you break my heart with that prediction...but I understand.

For those who watch The Office, how awsome was Creed's Halloween costume...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Jay is correct in saying we are very reasonable group here. To be able to talk about something most of us feel so passionately about and remain civil about the subject even though we have differing opinions is a real credit to Jay G. This place is a breath of fresh air.

By the way, do not try and read a camp fire and participate in it on an iPhone as you drive in Atlanta traffic. This place could literally kill me.

    Good night hotties.

  86. Anonymous9:37 PM

    Good night Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The worst place I've ever posted about Auburn football was in the Tigers Free For All on al.com.

Just an awful place where you can't have a decent conversation at all.

    This place tops them all.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Eddie! Don't do that again! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  89. Monica, I am in with you on the politics thing. I choose to not believe in it and I really don't want to see it. You should really watch 3rd Rock. It is on TVLand and is my type of sophisticated humor.

WDEwg, I think we will be running only slightly more than we pass. Ole Miss is pretty good against the run. They are more vulnerable to the pass.

eddie4au, thanks for your vote. The check is in the mail.

michael, I agree that the ring of fire and feeling the heat should remain kind of exclusive, but I wouldn't set a number limit on it. I do think Jay should base it on the contributions made by people to the discussion in here.

Here is a thought. Maybe the Ring Of Fire should help Jay keeping up with the Feeling The Heat Members. Just a thought. It really shouldn't become a lot of work for Jay should this continue to grow.

Mr. Sensible, I would be shocked if Texas looses. The only reason I see it maybe happening is because they have been going through a heck of a tough stretch. The Texas defense seems to be better against the run than the pass, but I think they dominate Texas Tech. I am in awe of Texas this year.

I am coming to the opinion that we should stop with the no huddle Village People YMCA on the sidelines thing. It seems that the hurry up only confuses us.

hoopie, I don't think Ole Miss is the clear cut winner. I am not sure who will win, but I think it is going to be close. If Fannin and Kodi can agree one which way is left, we have a shot.

coosa, you are going to take my thrown as the nut on here with comments like this: "bammer wins first 11 and then loses to AU. It turns into a disaster for the state as many bammers can't handle it and turn suicidal - some of them aren't found for days. bammer then gets destroyed by FL in SEC championship game (FL beats GA)".

I'm out too. Sweet dreams, hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Florida is pretty sick... if they keep it up I don't see anyone beating them from the SEC.

I think we will beat Ole Miss. I didn't think we would beat W Va. Oh, but I did think we would beat Vanderbilt and Arkansas. You know what? I don't think I really know much of anything when it comes down to it. But yeah, we will beat Ole Miss.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Steve
I'd love to see us try and establish the run early, with some intermittent shots down field- -even if unsuccessful, over thrown-- whatever.

just let them know we intend to succeed (old most extreme challenge from spike).

Then start working the short and intermediate.

Gotta head to bed. Catch you guys tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  103. WarEagleRK, I am still recovering from the al.com forums. Now I can make the occasional stupid post, but there are people in there much better than it than me.

  104. michael, thanks for picking Auburn. I keep telling myself Auburn will win, Auburn will win, Auburn will win. Anyone know where I can get a Houston Nutt voodoo doll?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Wifey and I were rockin' out to some Rock Band 2 tonight.

"Go Your Own Way" ... we knocked that out of the park. Yummy.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I really, really, really want AU to win. Not just win, but win big. 48-0 big.

    BUT ... I don't think so.

    Here's my two sentence prediction:

AU's offense turns the corner just enough to feel some real frustration toward an AU defense that seems tired and unmotivated. Ole Miss covers.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Steve - Not quite sure what you mean here: >>>coosa, you are going to take my thrown as the nut on here with comments like this<<<

Not sure what a thrown is, but you guys are using all sorts of terms with which I am not familiar. ;)

To elaborate on the bammer reaction to a loss to AU and having Tubs running around on their field holding up 7 fingers - It is a night that will live in infamy. Many wives are beaten, children are abused, dogs are kicked. Emergency rooms around the state are filled with innocents who have been abused by drunken bammers who simply can't deal with such a devastating loss.

La enforcement around the state must be posted on every overpass to keep suicidal bammers from jumping off. The governor declares the state a disaster area. Schools are closed. Counselors are brought in from other states to try to help grieving families.

It will be so bad that it almost isn't worth it for AU to win.

    NOT!

    A good evening to all.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hahaha, well coosa, I give. Even eye could never predict that, although I hope you are right that we beat Bama, and I do hope they are undefeated when we do it. It would seriously change the perceptions in the state.

    ReplyDelete
  109. If Auburn is to win, Marks and Coleman must show up. Early on, Marks was devastating. The last few games he hasn't been mentioned nearly as often. Give me a big game from Marks and we got a good chance defensively. I am sure Nutt will bring the big uglies. We better be ready for it.

    ReplyDelete
  110. "Go Your Own Way"? Ain't that Fleetwood Mac? Maybe I am just old. I like check my 8 tracks and see.

    ReplyDelete
  111. You just can't beat a good Gordon Lightfoot 8 track. Thick pile shag carpet and track lighting to set the mood.

    ReplyDelete

  113. Is anyone going to Halloween parties? I like to dress up like Bobby Knight to hand out candy...It scares too many kids though.

  114. I saw the best costume ever in a catalog earlier this year.

    It's God's gift to women.

  120. I don't know. Gordon Lightfoot, that's pretty mellow. Maybe Olivia Newton-John. That Peter Cetera, he was pretty good. For some real retro music, you can't beat Roxy Music. Although The Jesus Mary Chain started in 1984 and would be post 8 track, their cassettes were pretty good.

    I kinda dig Natelie Merchant.

  127. The Tigers offense, and well, heck, the entire team is like listen to Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues.

    Nights in white satin,
    Never reaching the end,
    Letters Ive written,
    Never meaning to send.

    Beauty Id always missed

    Go as Tony Franklin:

    Con Artist

White sweat suit with black stripes to simulate a convict. Add an artist pallet and a beret.

  130. I think of CTF as more of a Jerry Lewis type character. Lots of improve, like in the Nutty Professor. Maybe the French will like CTF too.

  135. Monica,

Sorry I didn't see your post last night.

It was during the 1st segment on the show before the theme music. Creed was dressed like the Heath Ledger version of The Joker...it was awesome.
