Second leg begins

Hey everyone. I'm now in Atlanta, which claims to "service more than 230,000 passengers per day," which makes me laugh because service is an interesting verb.

Here's my view at the moment:

I received a nice surprise when Press-Register ace Evan Woodbery (one r) arrived here at the gate via Honda Civic from Auburn. This flight will be chock-full-o beat writers. Charles Goldberg and the Bammerham News Boys will be here as well.

  1. ATL airport is a dump. I'd love to be a fly on that ATL to Pittsburgh flight.

  2. I'll bet you flew a Canada Regional Jet. That's a horrible experience. I once sat next to Dominique Wilkins on one of those. Can you even imagine?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm sure the conversation was incredible.

I used to fly Cessna 172RGs with my dad back in the day, so I actually enjoy the smaller stuff more than the big ol' jet airliners.

  4. Try not to think about the Evansville Aces or the Marshall Thundering Herd, or that soccer team in the Andes,,,,just sayin'

I like the Canadian Regional Jet compared to the alternative.

  5. All the beat writers will be jealous of Jay's HABOTN kingdom. Bet that makes for some interesting chatter.

  6. last time I flew in and out of the gump, we were on ATR-72s, which provide a little more room, but less comfort and high noise levels. Converted cargo planes are funny.

Why is everyone hatin' on ATL? I kinda like the airport. It's huge, but very easy to navigate. The majority of the terminals are well kept and comfortable, there's plenty of people people watching to be had, and the food/shopping choices are pretty decent and abundant. As far as International Airports go, I rate it pretty high.

Do the other beat guys know about the HABOTN Jay G?

  8. Maybe ATL has had some major renovation since I was there about a year ago. When I was there it was nasty. If Chicago (O'Hare not Midway) can keep theirs clean ATL should too. Cleanest airport ever: San Diego. Best People watching: Seattle.

    Jay,

The big dude on the right in the blue shirt.

See if he has any eligibility left...can't have enough backup linemen.

  10. I guess I have always disliked ATL because I always hate having a short flight from there. I fly to Oregon fairly regularly and it really stinks to have an 45 minute flight to Atlanta and then a 5 hour flight to Portland.

I prefer going through Cincinnati. I got stuck in O'hare on my last return flight. It was terribly noisy. I will hang in Cincinnati any day.

As for nasty, if I remember correctly, the Pittsburgh airport was pretty bad. I may be confusing it with another city, but I have a distinct bad impression of flying through there.

If you need more "service", I know some dainty little places in buckhead that you can go to. Tell em you want the full deal.

  12. Austin, Texas is my vote for best Airport and it even touts itself as an International. I guess it flys to Mexico.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous11:32 AM

Sacramento's Airport is full of gnats and mosquitoes.

Nastiest airport I've ever been through in my travels.

  14. Ok, I signed up for twitter and the mobile texts but I am not getting them. What am I missing?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous11:38 AM

You have to go to the Twitter page and make sure you enable the mobile alerts. It's an extra step.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Charlotte is my favorite airport. Very clean and no problem getting around.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Evan and Charles' blog comments are just a bunch of bama vs auburn posts. Hard to sift through the muck.

Luckily, you have to pass a competency test to post here. HABOTN is all about high standards.

  18. Anonymous11:49 AM

Enjoy the trip. Don't let the Birmingham beat writers give you anything.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous11:50 AM

UGH....The atlanta airport. Got to love the B concourse. Love the Steve Miller Band reference by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Eddie, are you "following" HABOTN on twitter?

    ReplyDelete
  21. All AL.com is are a bunch of Auburn vs Alabama posts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous11:54 AM

Sounds like good times, Jay. Have the other beaties picked up on the innovative campfire yet?

I guarantee you the HABOTN is very close to bg mentioned on one of these televised games this season. Maybe not until UGA or Bama but it's coming. We're taking American by storm and we're taking Mr Sensible abd Phred with us.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous11:55 AM

    I agree RK. AL.com is a sewer.

I only post here and AuburnUndercover

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous11:56 AM

Thanks Crudup. I thought it did get a shout during the UT game?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous11:58 AM

I guess it did. The Tony Franklin thing.

But we're going to push for a full excerpt complete with advice from "alan" on which massage parlors he recommends in Atlanta.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm trying to Peter, but still trying to get my phone added correctly. It would be nice to do.

I've been a member of Rivals for like 7 years and I have probably made close to or most posts here than there. I enjoy the conversations, especailly on days like today when i'm bored out of my mind at work with little to do.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous11:59 AM

Well Rece, Mark, and Lou always have some interesting side commentary. Maybe Thursday?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does Alan recommend the "love you long time" parlors?

    ReplyDelete
  29. The conversation was really interesting. Wilkens wants to coach the Hawks and made no secret of it. He also made no secret of his disdain for Hawks management. This was two years ago, before the resurgence.

The HABOTN and PHRED just got the big shout out from Josh Moon on "The Roundtable" with Doug and Josh on WMSP in Montgomery. (He quoted the Phred Zen line on the front page.)

You can listen live on their site.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous12:09 PM

I believe he is, Eddie. Just turn to the back of the Atlanta Journal sports page.

Funny how things work isn't it? Sports, beer, and boobs. All tied together in the newspaper.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous12:10 PM

    Be easy on the ATL,

Its not like the Real Housewives.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ditch the planes, ride the train. Much more civilized method of travel. You can get up, walk around, aren't 'treated' to the closeness of your seatmates and don't have to stand in endless security lines.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just heard someone say that Tony Franklin was going to be on the Paul Finebaum show today.

Could be interesting; but, usually, a coach will keep his wits about him and realize being too ugly would not be good for his career.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous12:19 PM

I saw an interesting fact on how often Airport bathrooms are cleaned (becasue of the immense traffic).....I think O'hare is the best with every 5 minutes nad ATL is around every 10 mins.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous12:21 PM

Where did you hear that Mark? That will be interesting if he's on that show.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sensible,

I used to post on the free board on AuburnUndercover, but it started getting too insane with people who had no clue about football, but would post every other message. So I just stick to posting here.

About Franklin on Finebaum, if that's true, I may have to give a listen. That could be interesting, especially when Paul starts trying to lead him into answers that Paul wants to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous12:23 PM

    Oh yeah,

If you are every in ATL airport and have a layover and want to get some exercise, walking from A gate to E gates is 1 mile.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I imagine that if Franklin comes on, that he will be very tamed down if he wants to coach college football again. Those coaches are small group of people and they don't like other coaches bad mouthing another coach.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous12:24 PM

Crudup and I will take all who want to go.
Moon did just give a shout to phred, pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous12:25 PM

I remember you from there RK.

I don't post there much for the same reasons as you. I even bumped my subscription because I would get more "news" here than there.

I lurk through the free board every once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If Franklin is on Finebaum, I'll bet he says, "I'm and idiot. Shoot, I'd fire me."

    ReplyDelete
  43. After the interview Franklin will say "yeah, I know I didn't answer the questions the way I should have. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm a dumbass. I'll try to get better next time."

    ReplyDelete
  44. i've got rivals but i've never posted there and hardly ever look b/c i don't care for the format. did/do any of you guys post on aunation.com? i used to be on there.

there are many more intelligent folks here in the HOTTNESS that makes it worthwhile. proud of my boy Phred for getting the shout-out today.

    ReplyDelete
  45. WJOX should really scrap the Dr's segment. IT IS A FREAKIN' Sports Show. I guess they cater to the bama nation..who doesn't go to Dr's.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous12:55 PM

You should check the 12 noon-2 show on WMSP

    ReplyDelete
  47. Eddie,

WJOX should scrap their entire programming lineup.

I think I may check out some of the WMSP stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree. I'm giving WSMP a try right now. Not bad so far. Living in Atlanta, I like to at least listen to talk where I have a chance to hear something about Auburn. Atlanta radio stinks to high heaven.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous1:43 PM

It's a good mix on that station fellas.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Can't say I listen to any sports radio. More of an NPR/my own CDs guy. (yes, still CDs, not an MP3 Playa) It doesn't sound like I am missing too much though the way a lot of you peops talk about it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous1:54 PM

    Eddie,

Mayhem in the A.M was good when Mike Bell was on.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mayham in the AM talks consistantly about what the heck is going on in their lives like we all give a crap. Mike Bell is very funny though. He would be better served to be back on the AM show instead of the Saloon. But I cannot stand Steak Shapiro. He has to be the most annoying man in radio.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is Franklin really going to be on mindbomb? I am not sure if I can stomach actually listening to that show, but I am interested in what Franklin says. Yes, I am certain he will discuss how he is mentally challenged, but he may give some insight into where we should head.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous2:26 PM

Finebaum said Franklin would be on towards the end of this hour if anyone wants to listen.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm listening to Finebaum for the first time in ... I don't know how long ... to hear Franklin talk publicly.

I'll tape it, I'll transcribe it and we'll all discuss it. Should be good.

    ReplyDelete
  56. yeah, i'm not really down with show either but i'm extremely curious to see how this interview goes. should be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just turned on mindbomb. This may be interesting. I read a bit about what mindbomb has to say about Tuberville. He seems to feel the powers that be are already plotting to get rid of our coach. I just don't see that happening.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous2:43 PM

He's saying sometime in the 3 o'clock hour.

Glad to see you landed safely Jay G.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can't believe I am listening to mindbomb. I thought not listening to mindbomb was a general rule, like don't run with scissors. Oh the pain, the pain.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Franklin, the synosis. He cussed up a storm at practice and apparently pissed of coaches and/or players. Maybe he would have fit in better when Muschamp was around?

    ReplyDelete
  61. From what Franklin says, it seems like he was just a poor fit with the other offensive coaches. I am kind of surprised that they coaches didn't have a closer relationship. It sounds like he and Tuberville didn't talk much.

After listening to Franklin, I think Tuberville was right when he said it was his own fault. Either you let Franklin run the offense, or you don't.
