Giving credit where it's due

I was due to write vignettes from various polling stations this morning. That would have affected my ability to provide coverage from Auburn today, which would have made your day less enjoyable.

I know. I shudder at the thought of leaving you all hanging.

Fellow Advertiser employee Kym Klass is writing vignettes in my stead this morning. It was a very nice and thoughtful gesture on her part.

Please check out her blog as a tip of the fedora. She's a runner and a fighter.

I don't know about the fighter part.

    That's very nice, Jay G.

I don't expect much of anything to come from the presser today.

Are there any names you've heard about for new OC? Or is that not of concern right now?

  2. Well, if it would help I can just give you some comments that are typical of a press conference and save you a trip.

This team doesn't know when to quit, I mean doesn't quit.

We had our best practice of the year.

    We simplified the playbook.

    We are getting better.

Just let me know if you need anything further.

How about some Tubs statements about how committed he is to Auburn, etc.?

  4. Where is "the hay is in the barn" quote Steve.

  5. How about:

    We're close.

We are just a few plays away.

  6. I wish he would say, "The Rebels are who we thought they were, and we let 'em off the hook! If you wanna crown them, then crown their a$$! But we let 'em off the hook!"

mr. sensible , i was wondering same thing about OC candidates. The lack of media attention about new OC might be telling.

I'm not sure a new OC can cure the ills of this team. Tubs needs to find someone he can work with and then lay down the law with the 2 Live BBQ Crew and tell them to work with the new guy or else.

All the offensive asst' coaches should take a pay cut to help offset the cost of paying Borges and Franklin. It's only fair.

The silence on the OC front may mean they have someone picke dout and have already contacted their agent. That waythe new guy can say, 'I have not been in contact with anyone at Auburn about a job.' Sound familiar.

Anybody hear about Tony Barnhart on Tim Brando's show saying that Tubs to Clemson is in the works? He said it could happen before the Iron Bowl. Don't know if it was actually said or not.

  11. The only way that a new OC is already picked out is if Tubs has been told he would be retained. If that was the case, I believe everyone would know that right now. I do not believe that Tubs would risk jepordizing some other coaches current position till he knew for fact he was retained.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tim- I believe that statement was made in jest, and I believe Tim Brando was the one making the jest. That does not appear to be a serious possibility.

  13. My campaign for George O'Leary in 2009 hasn't changed since yesterday. I hope the B.o.Ts see my posts and discuss him on Friday.

  14. Does the board check HABOTN comments ya think? Do you think they might even post as aliases? I wouldn't put it past them. I think eddie4au might really be Lowder.

  15. I'm going to guess that those who know what a computer is know who the HOTTIES are.

  16. Anonymous12:12 PM

    Eddie is actually Jay Jacobs.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Peter- O'leary may be needing a job after this year. He is quietly creeping up the Hotseat list at 2-6.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm just here to check and make sure Jay doesn't foil my plans like he did in 2003.

I will say Eddie has some good info though. He understands what goes on behind the scene.

  20. michael, you had me at "The Rebels are who we thought they were..."

Dennis Green for AU OC. Tubs can let him do EVERY post-game press conference. I really have no clue what position he actually coaches and really don't care. My vote is for D.Green this hallowed election day!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wootang- I will just say that I know how things work at Auburn because I was there in 1998 to witness it first hand. The BOT's are creatures of habit if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. the words I'm hearing out of UCF is that he has at least another year. ...unless Auburn gets to him first!

While I don't know this to be fact (nor do I care to check it), the excuses I've heard are that the team is very young because they lost a lot of seniors last year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Peter- I'm not sure how many SR's they lost last year, but they lost a great TB in Kevin Smith.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If I am not mistaken, Dennis Green was an offensive coach under Bill Walsh.

    So not a bad idea.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They lost Silent Bob?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous12:20 PM

Eddie-You are right about the BOT being creatures of habit. They cna never get over themselves. Maybe that is why I don't have a lot of money to throw around, I might think I was somebody and felt the desire to wreck a football program just to prove to my drinking buddy I can do it.

    Now that's braggin' rights.

The Roundtable guys just made an interesting point.

Auburn fans think that the longer nothing gets said, the less likely there will be a change at Auburn.

    Agree or disagree?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous12:22 PM

Agrre, but I feel strongly they should say something. It should not be Jay Jacobs kiss of death pablum he spewed last week.

  29. Did everyone notice Earlon McWhorter's quote yesterday?

"I feel whatever decision (Jay Gogue) makes, he will advise Board members," McWhorter said. "We have $6 million, but we don't want to spend $6 million."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous12:24 PM

RK you are correct about Green. In addition, just to add, Brian Billick of Coors Light fame was the OC for Green in MN before coming to Baltimore.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sensi,

I guess I feel the longer nothing is said, the more likely Tub will be saying before the Alabama game that it'll be his last game.

So I guess I feel the opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous12:25 PM

OK guys, gotta go vote again. C-ya.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I personally believe the longer nothing gets announced, the more likely he is gone. Did they announce a vote of confidence in 1998 or 2003? History seems to repeat itself.

  34. I'm out to perform my civic duty and get a passport. I will catch up with you guys later on the ole iphone.

With all going on with UT replace everything you read with Auburn. Kind of interchangeable don't ya think?

If Tubs stays, what is the realistic future of Auburn?

If Tubs goes, what is the realistic future of Auburn?

I'm headed down to get in position for the Tuberville presser. I'll be live blogging it.

"Don't Dream I'm Over" (to the tune of Don't Dream It's Over)

I’ve won here before, I’ll win here again
As long as Lowder keeps the jet on the tarmac
There’s 3 games ahead, we’ll probably lose at least 2
But it’s not the end of the road
Cause you know I don’t want to leave

    Hey now, hey now
    Don't dream I’m over
    Hey now, hey now
Even though the team is a mess
    I’ll win, I’ll win
Don’t build a wall between us
Even though a BCS we’ll never win

Now I’ll hire one new guy, to fix a hole on the field
Try to keep the defense from playing 2/3 of the game
You know I’m twice the Auburn man than any of you
Cause I will win more than I lose in most years
I’ll get Auburn back up again
    We’ll win 8, 9, or 10 games
That should be good enough for you if it is for me

    Hey now, hey now
    Don't dream I’m over
    Hey now, hey now
Even though the team is a mess
    I’ll win, I’ll win
Don’t build a wall between us
Even though a BCS we’ll never win

  40. Mr S.

If Tubs goes it obviously depends on the hire...say what you will, but Lowder has done a good job in his last three selections.

If Tubs stays, he will need to go back to what he know best and I dont even know if he knows what that is anymore....the last 12 months have just been so surreal...so not that good.

  41. Thank you for that vote of confidence, Kristina. You are the Paul Spina to my Tommy Tuberville.
