Injury update

Here are the injuries I know about:

DEFENSE

  • DT Sen'Derrick Marks: ankle (day to day)
  • DT Tez Doolittle: groin (day to day)
  • DE Michael Goggans: ankle (day to day)
  • DE Antonio Coleman: both ankles (day to day)
  • DT Mike Blanc: left hand (to be determined)
  • SLB Craig Stevens: left hamstring, turf toe (playing through it)
  • MLB Tray Blackmon: broken right wrist (out for season)
  • MLB Josh Bynes: "deep thigh bruise" (day to day(
  • WLB Merrill Johnson: hamstring (day to day)
  • CB Aairon Savage: right knee (out for season)
  • CB Walt McFadden: left knee and ankle (day to day)
  • CB Jerraud Powers: hamstring (out for at least one more week)
  • CB Neiko Thorpe: ankle (out for at least one more week)

106 comments:

  1. Paul Rhoades said last night losing Savage really hurt him this year. He said Savage was going to be his play caller. That was reason #1 that he was going to play in front of McFadden.

  2. That is a pretty incredible list and a good indication of why the defense is now having issues.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Anonymous4:12 PM

So, 9 would-be starters are hurt, if I counted right. That's rarely a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  4. And most of them healthy for the first time vs Bama. Might be a game.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I forgot about Walt.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I thought for sure Walt was down and done yesterday. That Ole Miss guy went after his knees. There were two illegal blocks by Ole Miss on that play. The one on Walt that wasn't called was flagrant.

    ReplyDelete
  7. RE that list: wow, just wow...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anonymous4:30 PM

    Man, that's telling.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Anonymous4:37 PM

Do we have bad trainers or conditioning?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Seems when things are not going well the injury list gets longer & longer. Injuries will surely contribute to poor results, we just never hear about them in good times.

Do more injuries = losses or
    losses = more injuries

I think its some of both...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Snake bit. Plain and simple. No other way to explain it. The pressure's always on the QB this year.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Also added Josh Bynes, who allegedly has a "deep thigh bruise." That was Tuberville's assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I just realized this could almost be a list of the starting lineup on defense.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cash money says Texas Tech ranks second in the BCS rankings (by a realllllly small margin) when they drop later today.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  15. nice Band-aid for the owies

    ReplyDelete
  16. sigh..that's all I can do...so a supposed to be win next week..I can't even where my AU shirts without getting razzed...Will we get better? I saw some improvement against WV but nothing agianst ole miss..I stand by Kodi..I stand by CTT..Kodi is the future.CTT deserves another year..UGA and BAMA to come..stay true HOTTIES..WAR EAGLE

    ReplyDelete
  17. Are we holding a campfire tonight? I know it was mentioned earlier. Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous5:38 PM

I'm glad Slaughter caught those passes. Just b/c he caught passes doesn't mean he did a good job or is a go to guy. He still catches the ball in his bread basket with alligator arms. He still doesn't aggressively come back to and fight for the ball like Rod Smith does(watched the game film before church this am).

I'm glad CTT called it like it is.....role player. If he will commit to getting better..watch some Courtney Taylor film and learn, then he can be better. He will still only run a 4.6 or 4.7 40, but he will then be someone you can "go to".

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous5:44 PM

The injury list was bad before this game and of course it affects play. This is as bad as I can remember. Note to fans: Broken bones, rolled ankles and injuries from clips, etc. aren't a conditioning problem. The lick that AC took on the side of his helmet wasn't a conditioning problem. Muscle pulls...maybe so.

I am surprised and glad to see that Kodi is not running the ball nearly as muchas I had predicted. My guess was that he would get hurt b/c of excessive running.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hoopie, you make a very good point. Over the last few years I have seen way too many interceptions that could have been avoided if the receiver was agressive.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think some coaches need to go visit Texas Tech and how they coach WR's how to run routes and catch. I don't think I saw a TT WR catch a ball in the breadbasket. The seemed to all catch it in their hands.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous5:51 PM

There were outstanding catches by many WR's lastnight by TT. It was fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  23. wow that injury list is pretty long. what's the status of having a campfire tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous5:56 PM

Haven't heard anything further about a campfire.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I heard that due to all the injuries, there may not be enough people to collect wood and start a fire for a campfire :).

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous5:58 PM

A UGA fan came up to me after church today lamenting that maybe it was time for Richt to go b/c he can't beat Fla regularly. Of course she will openly admit that although she has a strong opinion on the matter, she doesn't know football very well. I laughlingly suggested that she was a perfect candidate to post her opinions/musings in strong declarative statements anonymously on the internet blogs. Her husband, a close friend and co-host of our annual AU-UGA game pig roast was ready to smack me b/c she was intrigued with the idea.

Ah...the power of the written word.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous6:01 PM

    Richt to AU

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous6:02 PM

    See if it takes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Without reading through the 500+comments I missed, what's the Tubs percentage at after this week? Are we nearing 85% (surely, more than that is just speculation :-) )?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just don't know man...i just don't know....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Peter- Jay says 80% with his Tony Franklin Gut Feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous6:04 PM

80% was the last gut check correct

    ReplyDelete
  33. wartiger- no reason to be down. Its was a nice day outside today. This year, I'm finding out what great things there are to do on Saturday's that I never knew or cared to know about.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Actually, Hoopie, conditioning reduces the chance of injuries other than just "pulled muscles". Proper conditioning creates stronger connective tissues, increases bones density and increases flexibility. All of which makes a player less susceptible to breaks and fractures AND "pulled muscles".

    Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I dare someone to argue with Monica. I double dog dare ya!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous6:07 PM

Monica throwing out conditioning on the table. Do I hear a second?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Peter!!! Congrats on your Ring of Fire induction.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  39. thanks Mon. I'm honored.

    ReplyDelete
  40. hey all the facebook group looks cool

    ReplyDelete
  41. sand pit running: coming soon to an Auburn workout near you.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like it Peter along with catching Tennis balls.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous6:12 PM

Agreed on the sandpit. Kristina I think did the Facebook page.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Top Notch! Top Notch!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really want to see flaming tennis balls caught with clunky firefighter approved Kevlar gloves.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous6:16 PM

Richt's teams play smart schemes, but aren't typically as tuff in the trenches and normally have more injuries than we do. They have averaged losing 2-3 OL each of the past 4 seasons. Not sure Richt would last very long with some of the AU fans.

UGA is a lot easier place to recruit to than AU. Not sure Richt could recruit to AU as well as UGA.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kevlar gloves are for wimps.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anyone getting ready to watch the Simpsons?...treehouse of horror 19!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous6:19 PM

hoopie - Good points. Monica is a tuff cookie tonite. No gloves, crappy conditioning.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hoopie- I agree with your statements about Mark Richt. I still don't believe he commits to running the football and I definetly think him being at Georgia makes his job a lot easier than it would be for him at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am Scott. Always one of my favorite episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Eddie,

Just hope Mr. Burns makes an appearance!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Agreed Scott. Mr. Burns is one of my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  54. But I do like the Duff Beer Man.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous6:23 PM

OK, Mon..take a good look at T Blackmon and tell me how his lack of muscle caused the broken wrist bone.

Actually a better idea would be for you help me out and ID the injuries that were caused by a lack of conditioning. Please name the player and the play and how the lack of conditioning caused such. I've been watching for this most of the year b/c folks complain and I can't seem to find examples.

    ReplyDelete
  56. When I grow up I want to open a HIT Center in Birmingham.

The virtual tour on this link was made at the HIT Center here in Huntington. Home of the franchise and the one where I used to go. They are great! Working out with guys getting ready for combines is a bonus. hee hee

    HIT CENTER

    ReplyDelete
  57. With regard to the injuries, tired players are more likely to get injured. I think that has a lot to do with the defensive MASH unit we have now.

As for receivers learning to catch with their hands rather than their body, I suggest egg toss contests at the next practice. The ones that catch with their bodies will be pretty obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hoopie, my comment was targeted at your over generalization when you said, "Note to fans: Broken bones, rolled ankles and injuries from clips, etc. aren't a conditioning problem." I did not say poor conditioning is the cause of EVERY injury. That would be a silly generalization on my part.

However, if you want to send the conditioning logs and x-rays of the aforementioned players I'll do my best to help you out.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous6:40 PM

I didn't say "EVERY" injury...so let's don't play the generalization card or w'll be here all night. The subject started with someoune (as usual) questioning if the AU rash of injuries were caused by a lack of conditioning. I tried to explain simply and without dissertation and a host of qualifications.

If you don't think that the AU injuries are caused by poor conditioning, then no need to discuss further. If you do, then please list some of them. You have watched the games like all of us. No need to see x-rays. Game film is much more revealing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Its not the conditioning, even though we arent good, we are still physical

    ReplyDelete
  61. I say we make the players drink more milk. That will solve some of injury problems.

    ReplyDelete
  62. You can't simply look at the injury and know if conditioning was a factor without knowing that players conditioning. By the way, if game film is enough you could sure help save on team medical costs by not bothering with those pesky x-rays, mri's and other scans.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I didn't say our problem was conditioning. What I did way was that Hoopie's "Note to fans" was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The NFL has the greatest conditioned athletes on earth. Check out their injury lists week to week. Very long lists.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous6:50 PM

AU "generally" plays very aggressive football. The UGA fans I know expect more injuries when playing AU and LSU. That street runs both ways. The lick that AC took to the side of the helmet wouldn't have happened if he had not been flying to the tackle. He was hit by another AU player as they both got to the runner just as the runner was pulled down.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous6:55 PM

I asked the question about conditioning to get others opinions. Which I got, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. au1n04

This aint the hottest blog on the net for nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous6:58 PM

Burning!! Tex Tech is #2 in the BCS.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anonymous6:59 PM

A Miami Dolphins RB has stated that the conditioning/play at AU prepared him as well as possible to play in the NFL.

Rather than look at conditioning logs now, lets just ask any AU fans to not speculate about lack of conditioning unless they have the evidence that Monica has outlined. I think that Coach Yox has earned the privilege of not being subjected to random uninformed, speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Penn State is the Auburn in the Big 10 to me. They get a little bit more respect, but they seem to have Auburn's luck.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't know about a campfire.

I've still got a video to produce and two items for the "print product," so ... you make the call.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I can go either way on the campfire. If your busy Jay, lets not then.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jay,

Take the night off, you deserve it, that drive to/from oxford is not fun.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous7:02 PM

A campfire at this point might be more like a lynch meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I believe you may be right Mr. Sensible. I think things have definitely changed among the fan base on how they view Tubs. I also believe his statements just seem way out there.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous7:06 PM

Hoopie - I was just asking the question. Not speculating about anything. Now I ask this since you stated your comment in the fashion that you did.

Has CTT not earned the same previlage?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous7:06 PM

Oh, and I agree about holding off on the campfire.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hate to make the comparison, but AU of 08 is playing out like Bama of 03. Tremendous number of injuries and a losing season.

Obviously that is pessimistic, so let me say, I think we can come around and beat UGA. They are not very good in some cases. We have to get our starters back.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Gosh, Hoopie, I guess I'll say it again for you.

While I'm sure poor Coach Yox appreciates you policing the Net in an effort to protect him from "random uninformed, speculation" (which I realize is very rare on internet blogs)... I'll repeat I was pointing out YOUR error, not his.

    ReplyDelete
  80. au1:

When he shopped around for a job last year, he lost that privilege.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Everyone have a good night. I'm checking out and relaxing this evening.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Anonymous7:11 PM

Mark - I can see your point.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous7:11 PM

    Cya Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anonymous7:14 PM

TT beat the #1 team, but remember this was Texas' 4th top ten team in a row. My guess is that if both teams are rested, Texas would beat TT. So Penn St. has an off week and slips in the rankings..huh. I couldn't find the rankings on the ESPN site, where did the computers have TT compared to Penn St?

I would probably have Penn St as #2. TT has only played one tuff opponent other than Texas. If TT wins the next 2 games(OK and OK St.), then maybe they should be #2.

Uh-oh....here comes more logic: If TT doesn't win the next 2 games, then Penn St will be #2 anyway....sooooo does it really matter?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, me too, Eddie. Going to check out the Colts and Pats.

    Later and WDE all

    ReplyDelete
  86. Injuries suck... i am going to tell myself we are getting all of our bad luck out of the way.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I just wanna say ...

    Facebook is the shizz. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  88. We'll do a campfire before long ... you can BOOK IT.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Let's look at my season in the 80s,
    80 national championship
81 made tourney after starting the season 2-7
    82 final four
    83 final four
84 not so good 24-11 but sweet sixteen ( I think Lebo would take that)
85 19-18 (key injuries to Milt Wagner (season ending), Jeff Hall, and Billy Thompson), but went to NIT final four.

    86 National Championship.

Point is that injuries have the most to do with anything.

You want to know why the defense is struggling, look at the injury report.

CTT has earned some slack given his way this season.

Granted he did burn a ton of goodwill last year. That I am afraid is getting him now.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I figure if Bobby Knight can go on Game day. I participate right here.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Anonymous7:32 PM

Mon...I will probably generalize in the future just to reduce the length of my already long posts.

AU-04....I do actually think that CTT has earned that right, but defending him right now is swimming against too much current. Too many folks are enjoying that feeding frenzy.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous7:34 PM

    Hoopie - Like feeding Piranha's

    ReplyDelete
  93. Going into the season, while we were exiled from blogger.com by the advertiser (the chillier days of the HABOTN), I told jay who i thought the most irreplaceable (who we had to have play well and not get hurt) players on our team were and I asked who he thought. Our lists were pretty much the same but we'll go with his.

    1. Lee Ziemba
    2. Jerraud Powers
    3. Sen'Derick Marks
    4. Jason Bosley
    5. Wes Byrum

(I had etheridge instead of byrum)

Not one of those players have played up to their standards for injury reasons or just poor preformance reasons.

So coaching is by no means good these days but it's not the only problems we are having.

    ReplyDelete
  94. If Jay G. is down with the facebook, I guess I'm gonna have to play too. I need instructions though peeps and potentially a couch to sleep on....I went from using a computer never to 24-7. Getting a lot of flack from the better half if you know what I mean. Oh well...better to ask for forgiveness than for permission I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I hope I get a trivia question regarding denny crum one of these days. I feel quite knowledgable about the man these days.

Never nervous Pervis. That is all I have from '86

    Hotties,

This is from frequent Gridiron Breakdown guest Will Shelton of Southeastern Sports Blog about Tennessee's Eric Berry. I thought it was fun and wanted to pass it along.

Eric Berry could intercept a nuclear missile and other thoughts, with apologies to Chuck Norris and Jack Bauer, in their appropriate football context in an attempt to brighten the dark times.

    - 1/4 of earth is covered by land. Everything else is covered by Eric Berry

    - Eric Berry is suing MySpace for infringing on what he calls everything around him.

    - There is no "ctrl" button on Eric Berry's computer, because Eric Berry is always in control.

    - For every action there is an equal an opposite reaction. Except a hit by Eric Berry, for which there is no equal.

    - There are no Eric Berry jokes. Only Eric Berry truths.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Eric Berry is a bad dude. It's a shame he is on a terrible team, and even bigger shame that we have to play him again next year.

    ReplyDelete

Oh Yeah!! The Auburn Football Review Show is on!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Auburn video also has been posted to the front page of this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Also, I'm at least somewhat certain that Mike Blanc's hand is fine. Conflicting reports.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous8:12 PM

Good video. I thought Bosley seemed a bit surprised by the question.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous8:39 PM

Hoopie, Slaughter caught several of those balls with his hands yesterday. It was his only option on those particular passes. Cut him some slack. Look at who his WR coach is.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Anonymous8:41 PM

Ditch the Under Armour cleats and I bet injuries will be fewer.
