Second quarter, Ala leads 10-0

We're discussing the second quarter of Auburn's game at Alabama.

  • Auburn's third possession: Not much happening there. Mario Fannin converted a third down with a nice screen catch-and-run play, but that was the lone Auburn highlight. 7 plays, 21 yards. (started at 14:53, AUB 24)

  • Alabama's third possession: Glen Coffee 41-yard TD run. Auburn had Alabama held at 3rd-and-11. John Parker Wilson hit Julio Jones on an out route, earned the first down and Coffee scored on the next play. 4 plays, 65 yards. (started at 12:06, ALA 35)

    • ALABAMA 10, AUBURN 0

  • Auburn's fourth possession: Not much going on. Burns lost his mechanics on a poor second-down pass. Alabama blitzed on third down and Burns couldn't find anyone available. (started at 10:21, AUB 24)

  • Alabama's fourth possession: They were making progress. Jerraud Powers made a "nice play" on Julio Jones during a third-down pass. Powers arrived a bit early. No penalty was called. (started at 8:42, ALA 38)

  • Auburn's fifth possession: Three and out. Kodi Burns can't pass. He has lost his mechanics and touch. He's also being pressured. (started at 6:09, AUB 19)

  • Alabama's fifth possession: Three and out. (started at 4:25, ALA 31)

  • Auburn's sixth possession: Ends with a blocked field goal. Morgan Hull was attempting the first kick of his career. (started at 2:27, AUB 28)

I don't care if Mario can block or not, keep him in the game

    ReplyDelete
  5. Take Rod Smith out. He stinks.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anonymous3:30 PM

Smith seems to be on freeze lock today.

    Punt to live

    ReplyDelete
  7. In the Punt to Live strategy, I believe you must actually PUNT THE DANG BALL.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If this was our idea of starting fast, I hate to see how we end.

    ReplyDelete
  9. There should have have been pass interference on that one pass.

    Terrible punt.

We can't have special teams breakdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Don't expect any help from the refs. The SEC want #1 and #2 in the championship game next week.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm still not over that blown pass interference call.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow...bama gets a call while we get hosed on the last drive.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous3:37 PM

uh.. can we please cover JJ?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Terrible defensive coverage there. Just Terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Crap. This game is going horribly wrong right now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. and that first down is 100% coaching

    ReplyDelete
  17. We MUST answer that score.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous3:38 PM

    Twas bound to happen

    ReplyDelete
  19. I hate to be overly negative, but that's game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous3:39 PM

OK after that, we CANNOT go 3 & out and give them the ball back within 3-4 minutes

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep gotta answer. NOW

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really felt good about today, but not anymore. I have zero confidence we can come back from 10 down. Please prove me wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Unless we answer, and I haven't seen anything from this offense that says we can, that play was it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Can we please just go for broke here and let the ball fly?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Let's see if the guys respond or pack it in

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous3:41 PM

I think Gary Danielson was crying he was so happy UAT scored

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just don't see this defense being what a lot of AU fans think. I know there is no offensive support, but you can't blame it all on that can you? The rush defense has just fallen apart.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The D looked great early in the year against teams that turned out to not have an offensive pulse.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Someone on defense seems to be misaligned on every play which concerns me at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Kodi throws the worlds longest spike again.

    Loss of 14

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous3:43 PM

    ballgame?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well it'll probably be 17-0 soon.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ziemba better stop that crap.

This team is packing it in folks. It's getting ready to get ugly.

    I just can't believe it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. how can that not be a flag on hitting the punter?

and how did Kodi hold on to that ball?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have an idea. How about Gary Danielson shuts the hell up.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It looks like the nervous Burns has returned...

Given two weeks to prepare, Saban vs Tuberville?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous3:45 PM

if they dont stop UAT in 3 or 4 plays this drive, i fear Eddie may be correct

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous3:45 PM

Can you call it a drive if you go backwards?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow. Just unreal.

The defense has to step it up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good thing I am a happy drunk

    ReplyDelete
  42. What did Ziemba have to do with that?

He blocked his man on that play.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kodi's gotta step up

    ReplyDelete
  44. We need a 3 & out or a turnover or it's over.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Someone needs to hit Sarah Jessica Parker in the mouth.

He hasn't taken a shot all afternoon..

    ReplyDelete
  46. I REALLY HATE ALABAMA!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. CCR I guess you and I are the only ones with a question on the no call on hitting the punter.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Let's get a turnover here.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If we don't get pressure on Wilson..

    We're toast.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I volunteer to smack Sara Jessica and then I'll move on to Gary Danielsen.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is that Coffee or Shaun Alexander?

    ReplyDelete
  52. The hit on the punter was a lot of acting by Durst...plus that would just make it 4th and 19 and we'd punt again.

    ReplyDelete
  53. IM4AU, I agree but it seems everyone gives Rhoads a pass given the offensive non-performance. Everyone talks of how technically sound we are on defense, but I just don't see it. This season has been a disaster in all aspects of the team, not just one.

    ReplyDelete
  54. simple but effective

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous3:48 PM

    Go Gators.

    All I'm saying...

    ReplyDelete
  56. We need a big sack here...

    ReplyDelete
  57. I mean I guess I don't understand the rule, but he gets the punt off cleanly and then is touched then it is a penalty?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Gary and Verne are going to need a cigarette soon.

    ReplyDelete
  59. RK- Ziemba pushed a bama guy in the back after the play. I hate that crap.

  61. Well once again recruiting for speed on defense kills us on cutbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous3:49 PM

    And a napkin, Mon

    ReplyDelete
  63. A penalty against Alabama, no way!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I read where rhoads was actively seeking the utah job. does that mean he's trying to get outta here?

    ReplyDelete
  65. they wouldnt have stopped the play morons

    ReplyDelete
  66. Finally something of a break

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tez Doolittle..

    Step it up, big guy.

Don't let this be your last game...

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's Utah State and they want him, not sure he wants them.

    ReplyDelete
  69. We should have had a pass interference call there

    ReplyDelete
  70. Riggins just on the radio talking about the misalignment of the defense through the 1st half.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous3:51 PM

    whewwww

    ReplyDelete
  72. Give the turf monster a tackle on that punt

    ReplyDelete
  73. that was a good play by powers

    ReplyDelete
  74. I know our offense has sucked all year, but our D hasn't looked all that great either. I love me some defense, so I've really been disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. coverage and blocking so bad Dunn would rather slide than run

    ReplyDelete
  76. If we can just keep them from scoring again this half...then we're still in decent shape.

If we can also put SOMETHING on the board...EVEN BETTER.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The D never shows anything different to disguise what they are doing.

We just run a base D pretty much and it all falls on the players to execute properly.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Auburn needs to move this ball right now.

I think it'll slip away RIGHT NOW if something doesn't change RIGHT NOW. Alabama has done its work and it's on the verge of taking control.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous3:54 PM

    14 rushing yards so far

    not good

    ReplyDelete
  80. We need some points

    ReplyDelete
  81. Guys..

    Seriously,

If we can get into the locker room only down by ten against the #1 team in the country..ON THEIR TURF..then we're still okay..

    Keep your fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  82. If the back or TE is to the right, run is to the right.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous3:54 PM

Slip Sliding Away...Paul Simon sums up the season.

    ReplyDelete
  84. We can't start past the 20. We really need better field position.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Can we please put Fannin in the game?

    ReplyDelete
  86. And what was that?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hey, a hit in the backfield. I would would have expected that.

    ReplyDelete
  88. How do you figure Reynolds. They are dominating all across the board right now.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Anonymous3:56 PM

What good would that completion have done 7 yds in front of the first down!?!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Do we ever know where the 1st down marker is on 3rd down????

    Ever???

    ReplyDelete
  91. Good gosh almighty..

    ReplyDelete
  92. This looks like Preseason Kodi. NOT GOOD. He looks like a scared baby.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Anonymous3:57 PM

Guys, this is going downhill uber fast

    ReplyDelete
  94. 17-0 will lead to 42-0 at end.

    ReplyDelete
  95. In the past 3 years, on any third down we've almost always thrown in front of the marker.

45 total yards so far to Alabama's 160

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous3:58 PM

We are not only being outplayed here, we are being thoroughly outcoached as well.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'm guessing "performance anxiety" Kodi has returned at this point?

    ReplyDelete
  98. It looks like preseason Kodi.

    Absolutely, Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  99. good god i hope he didnt just say "hotlanta"

    ReplyDelete
  100. I can't believe we're only down 10.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I hope Percy Harvin will be better for the SEC Championship game.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Eddie..

My strategy is simple (and pathetic).

Keep them from scoring here and hope they make a lot of mistakes in the 2nd half.

I mean, what other option could there be?

By the way, I'm about to make a phonecall back to 2004/2005..and see if I can find our offense...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Well when you give Tuberville and Saban 2 weeks to prepare, who do you think will win that preparation battle?

    ReplyDelete
  104. We need to let Quentin Riggins and Stan White call the plays in the 2nd half! They said UA are bringing up 8 to the line right before the snap. They need to run left long and right long and throw it deep. They think we could get a big play.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Anonymous4:00 PM

Is CBS in love with those two blonde twins who were houndstooth hats? they show them all the time every week

    ReplyDelete
  106. I would seriously give Neil Caudle a shot. Anything is better than what we are doing on offense.

    ReplyDelete
  107. When they take Coffee out we do well.

    ReplyDelete
  108. timeout, tuberville?

    ReplyDelete
  109. AC tawlkin smack to Sara Jessica!wooo hooo

    ReplyDelete
  110. Well can we make something happen with 2:19 to go in the half?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Anonymous4:01 PM

ok lets dive down and get a FG or at least keep the ball until the half runs out

    ReplyDelete
  112. Bear- Those two blode twins have a billboard ad on I-65 above decatur. I couldn't believe it when I saw it Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Maybe Caudle will play 2nd half! We never do anything in the 2nd half anyway, so this would be a good change of pace.

    ReplyDelete
  114. How about something for hitting a QB while he is in his slide?

    ReplyDelete
  115. according to these announcers, auburn is incapable of doing ANYTHING good. alabama only blows it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wow, a 1st down and a Brad Lester spotting.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anonymous4:02 PM

and why haven't we used Lester more?????

    ReplyDelete
  118. note to CBS fire these guys after this game!!

    WAR EAGLE!

    BEAT BAMA!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well that 3 yard sideline route does us a lot of good.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Throw the ball further than 3 yards!

    ReplyDelete
  121. i didn't realize arenas was so short

    ReplyDelete
  122. I hate CBS. Lat year's dancing at the Georgia game made me sick. How unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Go Kodi, I love his running game.

    ReplyDelete
  124. another first down!

    ReplyDelete
  125. The hurry up catches them off guard.

    ReplyDelete
  126. my heart is beating too fast

    ReplyDelete
  127. why has kodi not run the whole half until now?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Boy Saban is disgusted. We have got to score.

    ReplyDelete
  129. i like that quick huddle when it works

    ReplyDelete
  130. We need SOMETHING out of this.

    A touchdown.

    A field goal.

Hell, even a safety on Bama (if possible)..

    ReplyDelete
  131. Oh my, this reminds me of the last drive of the Georgia game. We are really due something good to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  132. We need to score.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Cotton - We've been lulling them into a false sense of security.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Why not run hurry-up all the time?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Time to make a play.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Kodi kills me the way he carries that ball when he takes off! Makes me so nervous!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Clock is ticking

    ReplyDelete
  138. I love our red zone scoring percentage.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Kodi guns it so hard # 87's now decapitated

    ReplyDelete
  140. there goes 10 seconds deciding what to do and then run it ARRRRRGHHHHHHHH

    ReplyDelete
  141. Wow, we are horrible.

    Who called these plays?

    ReplyDelete
  142. Always settling for Field Goals. Good Grief.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Morgan Hull, no pressure

    ReplyDelete
  144. Looks like this'll be Morgan Hull.

    ReplyDelete
  145. 2nd and 7, we throw a 3 yard pass that could only end in bounds...then we run the ball up the gut on a team who's strength is up the middle.

At least we didn't get to the redzone to make those stats worse.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Jay G ... is right ...

hurry it up ... Lester ... Fannin no Tate

    ReplyDelete
  147. Dear Morgan Hull,

    My name is Reynolds Wolf.

I want to be your friend.

Please make this field goal and I will be your BFF.

    Your pal,

    Reynolds

    ReplyDelete
  148. Of course, Hull with all of his experience.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Morgan Hull - You could be my new best friend.

    ReplyDelete
  150. MORGAN HULL!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  151. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I REALLY HATE NICK SABAN.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Hopefully that was just a practice shot and we do the exact same thing on the one that counts.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Anonymous4:10 PM

Bad clock management at the end

    ReplyDelete
  155. monica- Lulling them into a false sense of security? ...
Is that what this whole season has been?

    Field Goal GOOD!
    MORGAN HULL! MORGAN HULL!!
Ah, damn nick saban. damn him.

    2nd field goal is... blocked.
    !@#$%^&@#$^%!^!$**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  159. Well that was good coaching on Nick Saban's part.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Anonymous4:11 PM

    We are effed

    ReplyDelete
  161. I think Alabama's offense is so stinkin' predictable ...

    ReplyDelete
  162. Anonymous4:11 PM

Played well enough on defense to win. We just didn't do anything on offense.

    No duh Tubs

    ReplyDelete
  163. I hope we can make them pay for that. Let's go Gators. I will be pulling for Florida and anybody else that Nick Saban is playing against.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Wrong.

We come out pissed in the 2nd half.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I want whatever drugs Tubs is taking. Please give me the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  166. ... ARRRGGGHHHHHHHH....
Everytime they cut to the redneck delirious bammer fans, my blood boils. Their joy is my pain.

    ReplyDelete
  167. We are NOT screwed.

We have a whole half to play.

    We'll get after Sarah Jessica.

    And make Bama hurt..

    ReplyDelete
  168. chris evans and zach etheridge couldn't be more out of position unless they were wearing red jerseys.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Hate bammer! Hate Saban! Hate the timeout!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Anonymous4:15 PM

I think Tim Brando gets paid every time he says the word Quagmire

    ReplyDelete
  171. How can a major-conference winning program be so totally inept on offense? I really think we play for a field-goal to keep from being shut-out. That's more embarassing than actually being shut-out.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Our hope to go no huddle and go quickly.

We'll have to sell our on D.

    It's simple.

We've got to make our own breaks.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Depressed ... I agree with you about Rhoads ... we've got horrible angles.

I hate to say it because it's not popular, but the announcers are making fun of us,and we're making it easy the way we play.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Sonic, reminds me listening to the Miss-LSU game Danielson was talking of Ole Miss defensive problems and he said "Kodi Burns passed for over 300 yards against this defense folks, Kodi Burns!" We have become a laughingstock and it makes me sick.

    ReplyDelete
