The crew returns from Ft. Worth

Hey everyone. Here's why I couldn't do the campfire today:

Jay Jacobs and several of his athletic department associates landed at AUO around 5:45 p.m. after a day-long trip to Ft. Worth, Texas. That just happens to be where Texas Christian University is located.

ESPN.com, citing anonymous sources, reported earlier today that TCU coach Gary Patterson was expected to be interviewed.

I think it's fair to say that was a credible report.

Jacobs' party included two people I'd consider part of the department's inner circle: Mark Richard and Tim Jackson. Quentin Riggins, the former Auburn player and sideline reporter for the Auburn ISP Sports Network, also was part of the party. He's not someone I expected to see. Jacobs said other people would be part of the search process, though, and Riggins is a credible guy in my book.

Riggins said he couldn't comment when approached just off the tarmac. This was a paparazzi-style rush.

They departed this morning at 5:44, so they spent approximately eight hours in Ft. Worth.

PLANE TRICKY: Auburn's jets were quietly in the hangar for this trip. Jacobs & Co. flew on an 8-passenger jet registered to Warren Manufacturing. That's a Birmingham-based company that sells agricultural vehicles and trailers. The connection isn't clear to me.

IS THE PRESIDENT AROUND?:
Rather than walk away from the plane like normal civilians, Jacobs & Co. decided to get all secretive. An assistant ferried an SUV from the parking lot, pulled the truck alongside the airplane on the tarmac and the passengers all but dived into the vehicle. You'd think this was President Bush in a Somalian hot zone.

  1. JG who are JJ's athletic dept associates? Anyone we would know?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I'll add that information to the blog right now.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Ugggh paterson wouldn't be an upgrade in my opinon

    ReplyDelete
  4. Please tell me this doesn't mean Patterson is now the leading guy.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Some of these guys get me a little excited. Like I have to admit, I'm almost a TG fanboy, and I've always thought Patterson was the best "under-the-radar" coach out there. But, I have yet to see any name that sounds like he'd be on par, much less better than pre-Franklin Tuberville. I guess, therein lies the rub.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sorry forgot to say jay thanks and great lead

    ReplyDelete
  7. He's just the big name splash we need to turn this ship around!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jay....Safe to say Gary Patterson is the new #1 to get the job?

    ReplyDelete
  9. The majority of our recruits have probably never heard of Gary Patterson.

    ReplyDelete
  10. He has a great reputation within the coaching community. TCU has been pretty doggone good for a while now, too.

I'm not saying Patterson is The Great Poobah or anything, but Auburn's sights seem to be trending up.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I wouldn't say he's the new #1.

Whoever is #1 has been there for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jay G ... the other guy was Q. What was he doing there?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I already identified Q.

I addressed your question on the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  14. JG I must say that you really have your game face on. No other outlet is even close to you.

    ReplyDelete
  15. did GP sneak off the plane after the "crowd" dispersed?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh ... excuse me. That's just kinda weird to me still. Is he the AD in training?

    ReplyDelete
  17. It was an awesome scene.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Who is "Q" and were RSTLN or E anywhere to be found?

Sorry, My wife is watching Wheel of Fortune.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The plane was empty after the four of them departed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How many people said "What the ..."

    ReplyDelete
  21. "I wouldn't say he's the new #1.

Whoever is #1 has been there for some time."

So are you saying hes been the number 1 for a while?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jay, you do terrific work. Thank you so much!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Q = Quentin Riggins

    ReplyDelete
  24. is anyone else hearing spurrier to AU?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Spurrier said he heard it and that he thought it was crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. WSFA reported that AU is close to offering Spurrier the job.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I live in SC.

Spurrier is quite happy with low football expectation, (This is ACC basketball country) no hassle from the BOT, and a membership at Augusta.

    He hates to recruit.

    I can't see him coming.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jay GT- You da Man! Thanks so much for keeping so up to date. First with news you can trust!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Let's see what WSFA says after they read this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ftworth-I heard that about 15 minutes ago. He had agreed in principle and may be announced Friday. Heard from someone in Auburn. This person has been in Muschamps corner, like me for awhile, but is changing becasue of what he heard.
Did anyone check JRaines plane to see if it went to SC today?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Plus he knows enough about Bobby Lowder to pass on the whole thing.

Anyone hear Ivan Maisel & Beano Cook today on the College Football podcast? They were sympathizing with Coach T and wondered who would possibly go to Auburn now.

    ReplyDelete
  32. AUMom-
I agree; just can't see the OLD ball coach leaving there. If I did have such visions I'd need a urine drug screen.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does the advertiser employ a psychic? I would like to hear their thoughts. It would really save me a lot of worry. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  34. People - the man's name is RANE. No S or I. Jimmy Rane.

Geezy ... they really are reporting that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Makes sense. Why Spurrier would hire Woody McCorvey one day and then tell him the next day he had a change of heart.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I thought his name is YellowFella that is what my kids call him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Phred, they can report Spurrier all they want.

    I encourage it.

If they're wrong, demand a retraction. I know someone who won't be writing a retraction: Me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hear you. Wasn't doubting cuz. I think they are wrong too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why were there no representatives of the hired search firm? I'm not understanding that.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They qualify the candidates and set up the interviews. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 107.5, the sports station here, said they had spoken with Spurrier and he will not be coming for the following.

    1. He and Jeri love SC and are building another house on the beach.

    2. He doesn't want to butt heads with Saban all year long.

    3. He is 63.

    4. He is a man of his word and he told the SC people that this was his last stop.

FWIW, the SC people are not giving the story much credence.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anyone have that link for the WFSA

    ReplyDelete
  43. At least, that's what they do in theory.

    ReplyDelete
  44. http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=9507952&nav=menu33_4

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Search firm? Who?"

Exactly. Anyone know how much they are being paid?

    ReplyDelete
  46. thanks Wade, thanks a lot

    ReplyDelete
  47. So Rivals is reporting that Spurrier isn't interested, and WSFA is reporting the exact opposite. Is that right?

    ReplyDelete
  48. One minor upside for Patterson, his bowl game is EARLY, Dec 23. Maybe he could catch a ride to AU the next day with Santa. I'm still holding out hope for Gill, but not really expecting anything there.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Barkley, we're getting into the heat of the search. This is when credible information can be very difficult to find.

    ReplyDelete
  50. this oughta be good. can't wait to see how this turns out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Word of the Day is

    subterfuge
    Pronunciation: \ˈsəb-tər-ˌfyüj\
    Function: noun
1 : deception by artifice or stratagem in order to conceal, escape, or evade
    2 : a deceptive device or stratagem

    synonyms: see deception

    ReplyDelete
  52. WSFA's website still has that little banner that says
Source: Auburn close to naming new coach
    Updated: Dec 11, 2008 07:23 PM
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The WSFA 12 Sports team has learned that Auburn University may be close to offering its head coaching job to South Carolina's Steve Spurrier. A source in the coaching profession

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is it possible that both of these stories are diversions or is Patterson really that far up the list?

    ReplyDelete
  54. i think a texas connection is vital. forida is getting hard to recruit these days.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kristina - my word for the week is ... clusterphu#*.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Maybe Jay Jacobs was told to come home and stop his recruiting duties he had been fired......

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm 100% certain that Patterson is "far up the list."

Guys, this is where the entire Auburn crew spent their day. They don't do on-site visits for kicks.

    ReplyDelete
  58. We need Jay in Homeland Security. He should saving the world instead of wasting his talent keeping tabs on a coaching search.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why Patterson? I don't get it.

Any other interesting locales out that way that could have been visited as well?

    ReplyDelete
  60. wow maybe these "smokescreens" are a reality

    ReplyDelete
  61. pleeeassee no gary patterson

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jay-G,

Think about it? I've said all along they had a coach 2-3 weeks ago. Do you not give WSFA any credit w/ this report, or is it bull.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I still can't believe that we would fire TT to get some coach from TCU
    That makes NO SENSE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Spurrier makes no sense at all.

Auburn went to the trouble to acquire an "anonymous" plane and flew to a candidate's location -- with a four-man team -- and met with the guy all day.

Patterson is the guy you need to be watching right now.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jay -so your saying the advertiser wouldn't allow you to use "a source in the coaching profession" as your actual source?.......Strange....

    ReplyDelete
  66. did any private jets fly from Columbia, SC to Dallas today?

    ReplyDelete
  67. No unnamed sources here.

That's how we roll at the HABOTN.

My motto: "Not always first, but never factually incorrect."

    ReplyDelete
  68. JayG:

Say Patterson were the guy. What is your take? He doesn't feel like the breathtaking "Butch Davis" thing I was hoping for. How successful could he be at AU, in your opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Hotties don't lie could be your other slogan.

Patterson actually makes my stomach hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Auburn needs to do one of two things. Make a splash, or make an upgrade. Or both.

    Gary Patterson would do neither.

    ReplyDelete
  71. "If you ain't first, you're last!"

    ReplyDelete
  72. Do we really want a guy who's on the "Paul "Bear" Bryant Watch List for the College Football Coach of the Year"

    ReplyDelete
  73. WSFA has taken down the Spurrier item.

Never saw that one coming ...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Patterson tastes like oatmeal. the more I think about it, the more I think he's probably the guy. Why? Because it tastes like oatmeal. Just blah. SOOOOO Auburn. Crap. He's the guy. Crap.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Plain ole oatmeal with no cinnamon or fake sugar even...

    :-(

    ReplyDelete
  76. I wouldn't go so far as to say Patterson is The Guy just yet, but he's a real possibility.

    I think he's a very good coach.

    Coaches respect him a lot.

He's won a whole lot at TCU. They're nationally respectable year after year. I know nothing about his recruiting ability.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sweet, WSFA's finally got Spurrier off that plane WAKA had him on back in 2005. One of these days, the TV folks in Montgomery are gonna get Spurrier hired somewhere in state.

As for Patterson ... seriously? You fired Tubs for Patterson? Uh, I mean, you allowed Tubs to resig ... ah, hell, I can't even type that out with a straight face.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Jay- just glad it's not "Frequently wrong but never in doubt"

Turner Gill would definitely be a more exciting hire. I don't know enough to predict who (and more importantly) would turn out to be the better coach at AU

    ReplyDelete
  79. As long as WSFA offers an official retraction, I'm OK with it. We all make mistakes.

You gotta answer for completely inaccurate stuff.

I'm actually starting to like this no-unnamed-sources edict. It keeps me from being wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah, it's all fun and games for you fellas who don't care. I will seriously pout if it's Patterson. He's very pout worthy.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Gary's who are not like oatmeal...

    Gary Coleman
    Gary Sinise
    Gary Busey

    ReplyDelete
  82. Please..Please..Please..don't be Patterson. This hire would not excite me at all. I would support, but would not be excited.

    ReplyDelete
  83. there is a russell warren whose a senior at au. the company in bham sells trucking equipment, some of it for use in the poultry industry. my dad's got a bud in auburn big into chickens.

    ReplyDelete
  84. We are definitely going to do something completely bizarre like hire Patterson. Dude, I can feeeeeel it coming. Just get ready to sit there completely dumbfounded and speechless. Send Annie Sullivan to my house because I'll be Helen Keller. I won't be able to speak. I feel it. Oh sweet mercy ... I think I'm going to puke. Somebody shoot me in a drive by please.

    ReplyDelete
  85. should have typed "who's". apologies to my grammar teacher

    ReplyDelete
  86. I needed that guffaw, Phred.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oatmeal, yes. That would describe this hire.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Jay-G,

I realize that you are not an AU fan, but you must admit that hiring a coach from TCU who has little to no cred is about the silliest thing I've heard of.
AU can and should do better than that. As for your comment about Spurrier, I think people around here think that he can still be a hell of a coach.

    ReplyDelete
  89. So the WSFA guys are back for another round.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The WSFA 12 Sports team has learned that Auburn University may be close to offering its head coaching job, and that person could be South Carolina's Steve Spurrier.

...just begging for a blow to the head.

    ReplyDelete
  90. there is an au connection with tcu. pat sullivan coached there for a bit and did, for tcu, reasonably well.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Phred-ROFL!

y'all crack me up. HOTTIES are the best.

Jay - have you invited GP or TG to become HOTTIES? We might get some good info from their posts.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Spurrier's days are over.

Have you been watching South Carolina lately? He can't beat Clemson and he can't out-recruit Clemson.

    Come on.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Would anyone have considered Tubbs an "exciting" hire back in the day? A guy form AR who coaches one of those MS schools... I don't think AU is in the "exciting coach" business.

    ReplyDelete
  94. what is wrong with Patterson?

    ReplyDelete
  95. i am feeling very faint. i need bottomless chips and mexicali, stat.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yeah, let's go for a repeat of Tubs, we see where that put us. Great idea.

    ReplyDelete
  97. AU AG-
Nothing's wrong with GP; he was on my short list.. just don't get the idea it would be a WOW! hire

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jay G., I see that WSFA has moved the location of their story and changed the wording to give themselves some "working room".

    ReplyDelete
  99. "what is wrong with patterson?"

oatmeal dude, just oatmeal. goopy gray stuff with no taste.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yes, "earl" but that was before Nick Saban was across the state. I'm not saying that's what Auburn will do (or should do), but that's what a lot of people expect us to do.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Tuberville was very much an "exciting" hire back when AU scooped him up. He was considered then to be the up-and-coming coach who everyone had on their interview list.

If AU hires Patterson over Gill, the Gill supporters will freak out.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I would like to say I have faith in JJ but I really don't. Maybe he knows something that we don't

    ReplyDelete
  103. earl's got the point. historically, au isn't a "springboard" coaching position (for the head coach, that is). you've got to want to be in this league and want to be at au. head coaching at au doesn't get you into the nfl. you've got to consider au the pinnacle of your career or stay home.

    ReplyDelete
  104. No offense Jay-G but me and prpbably about 99% of the hotties would take SS over ANY coach from TCU any day of the week. I'm not here to stand up for SS however I do think he would be a marked improvement over TT. Currently AU is the laughing stock of the national media.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I really like oatmeal, but 2 hours later I'm so hungry I'm auto-digesting. So I avoid it. May not have that option this time.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I like my grits with cheese

    ReplyDelete
  107. mdaniel-
count me in the 1%. I don't want the OLD ball coach.

    ReplyDelete
  108. if GP is oatmeal, what is Spurrier?

    ReplyDelete
  109. I see that the Print Media vs. TV "journalist" battle rages on...

WSFA Sports department has fallen off the bus and cracked their skull. Just trying to scoop somebody else. They should stick to getting their scoops from the box of Raisin Bran every morning.

    ReplyDelete
  110. stale coco puffs?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Is the WFSA sports team made up of Ron Burgundy, Champ Kind and Brick Tamlin? What a freaking joke.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Spurrier = leftover NY strip ... not as good warmed up.

    ReplyDelete
  113. THT,
I understand that but do you a coach from TCU?? As much as I think of Pat Sullivan, that turned out to be his demise.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I disagree w/ mdaniel, no SS for me. If we were going to get a coach from the Carolinas he should have the initials Butch Davis. Also, who gives a (insert favorite expletive) what the national media thinks about AU? Even when we're perfect it's not good enough for them.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I don't get why there's so much hand wringing among Auburn people over Saban. Yeah, he's a good coach. He's done a good job. Alabama will be a power for several years to come.

    So?

UA won't be any better than LSU was under Saban, and Auburn beat them three out of five times. So, why all the worry?

    ReplyDelete
  116. AU's hoping for a twice baked potato...alright that's weak, nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  117. We have become the Chicago Cubs of the College football world....would someone please sacrifice an elephant in the stadium?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Josh,

It appears that Saban is The soup-de-jour. We'll see how he does next year w/ a new QB.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I have not wrung one hand over Coach Saban. I'd hire him if I could, but I'm not worried about him. I do think he's raise the bar and for that I am grateful.

    Patterson - bleh.
    I'd rather have Gill.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jay GT-
Mrs TarHeelTiger wants to express her appreciation to you for breaking my eBay habit.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Josh, I dont care about Saban at all, but for whatever reason a bunch of Auburn fans think we need a bigger hire than him in order to succeed.

Unfortunately, some Auburn fans pay more attention to what's going on in T-town.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Josh-
Monica took the words right out of my keyboard

    ReplyDelete
  123. Jay if you changed TCU to Auburn , statement would be true for CTT.

    I think he's a very good coach.

    Coaches respect him a lot.

He's won a whole lot at TCU. They're nationally respectable year after year.

    ReplyDelete
  124. All that Saban Zen stuff makes me want to vomit! We've got to play within ourselves. Yuk!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Turner Gill, please come save us from this Gary Patterson talk.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Honest question, not being a smart alec, but why was there so much love for Turner Gill, but no one seems to care about Patterson?

    ReplyDelete
  127. patterson would fit auburn nicely as bring as the hire would be. He's a run first guy with small quicker people on defense. Alot like tuberville minus the lowder vendetta against him.

    ReplyDelete
  128. one of the knocks I heard on TG was his lack of familiarity recruiting the southeast. is this not an issue for GP? does he pull from the southeast?

    ReplyDelete
  129. I'd also take Sean Payton. Think I'll call him up next.

    ReplyDelete
  130. make sure and give him a firm deadline, Mon. I don't want this thing dragging out too long.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I read the oatmeal stuff, barkley. I was looking for something a little more concrete than breakfast food comparisons ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  132. What ties did Urban Meyer have to the southeast before he was hired? That's just BS.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Mdaniel, if we play within ourselves too much, won't we go blind? That's what my momma told me!

    ReplyDelete
  134. i'm not buy into any of these rumor's until i see him walking down donahue

    ReplyDelete
  135. will-nice hustle.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Bingo JM,

Saban does one thing well: recruit. The rest follows along with that, but he still loses games (some that he shouldn't have).

If AU brings in a coach who can recruit and has a strong staff, they will win their share. It will be harder and we won't win 6 in a row, but it will be like Dye, who held is own.

I don't want SS, because of he is on the downside of his career.

And I don't know who is the best "to keep us at the level CTT did for most of his time here".

    ReplyDelete
  137. With you again Mon. If that ding dong we have for an AD thinks hiring a coach from Texas will help make inroads for Auburn recruiting in that state he is dumber than I think he is. I fear we should prepare to be disappointed with this hire folks.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Well I already said I think we should make a splash or make an upgrade, and with Patterson I don't see how we're doing either.

At least with Gill the attention will be all on us next year.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Will,

Please repeat the message I can barely see it!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Well..my reason for Gill over Patterson is the upside. I think Patterson is as good as he's going to get. With Gill, in my opinion you are getting a coach that at this point is just as good or better than Patterson with room still to learn and grow. Just to much upside to pass up when you are picking from the second tier group of coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Urban Meyer went to THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA. We might not like to admit it, but therein lies the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  142. HA...that's great mdaniel!!! I really laughed.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Guys:

Patterson would be a good hire. I was hoping that y'all would avoid him. He's done a whale of a job at TCU.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Oh ok, I see. So if you're contending for a job at Florida you don't need any recruiting ties, but at Auburn you need to know as many people as you can.

    Right.

I don't think it matters what part of the country you come from if you're a good coach and a good recruiter.

    ReplyDelete
  145. That's it...he's oatmeal...and Bama fans like him.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Guys, he's the PICTURE of "ho-hum"

Anyone care who or what he'll bring?

    Me either.

I'll sy this ---- SUCKS if he's the hire!

I HOPE I'm wrong. VERY VERY wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  147. How did the interview go?

    ReplyDelete
  148. URBAN MEYER coaches at Florida.

the State university with the best HS football players and his biggest rivals - and 80 yr old man and a rookie coach.

Apples and BOWLING BALLS -- florida vs Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I just moved to Fort Worth from B'ham...and folks around here love Patterson, and from everything I've seen and heard, he's a great coach.

I didn't see the AU fellas around though...hate I missed 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Moon,

Sup? Man i haven't been able to call because the boss has exiled me to the corsica of sports radio Mobile, AL. How's the table going? i agree that patterson is no better than tubs was. this hire has no excitement behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Spurrier is 62

    Saban is 57

    Yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Chris,

I just watched the blog last night. HOPE you got the job.

    ReplyDelete
  153. That's what I was trying to ask him about, MDaniel.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Okay so i wonder what scope of people are worried about hiring Peterson because of the previous history with schools from Alabama going after tcu coaches...i'll admit that i'm one for sure. However the guy was the coach that tennessee wanted if they couldnt get kiffin and was offered 3.3 million at washington. he must have something that i (who only watches maybe 1/2 of a TCU game all year) haven't seen and the experts see. i may just go w/the experts on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I have a meeting at 10 am in the morning.

    Looks good.

Looks vurry vurry good guys, thanks!

I had 2 in-person interviews and today I had to call in a pitch our product to the person making the decision.

Well, if you've seen the sterioded Jose Conseco HR in the Toronto Dome -- that was it.

    YARD!

    ReplyDelete
  156. i mean patterson sorry for the typo

    ReplyDelete
  157. Sorry Mon -- had my

  158. Maybe I am trying to look at this to close. Eltoro Freeman mad a comment today about Willis still being around with the new Coach. Like Jay said it doesn't take 12hrs to interview Patterson. Could they have covered a Muschamp meeting up with the Patterson interview?

With Urban going to Notre Dame next year (according to WSFA) do you think CSS will just stick at South Carolina one more year in hopes of going back for a reunion tour with the Gators?

  160. I can't figure why we need splash!

SS is NOT splash. We are hiring off a rep from 10 years ago. He can coach, but to what level.

How can we know based upon what we read, that we know who can recruit, bring in great staff, manage a game, etc...we don't.

So the names out there have +s and -s. There is no STUD coach.

I know I have put a LOT of money into the AU program over the last 25 years and the PTB are going to make sure that I KEEP sending my money.

The PTB have done a pretty good job in the past (Dye, TB, TT). They proved they could coach. THey will do the same on this search, even though they won't seem to have IT!!

  161. lol It's ok, Chris. I should know better than to try to talk to you when you're all jacked up. Sounds like good news for you. Keep us updated.

  162. Have you guys seen the Tub's resignation letter on AL.com?

    Interesting quote:

After long consideration, I have decided to resign. I understand that, notwithstanding my resignation, the University will make a total payment of $5,083,334 as outlined in Section 21 of my contract. I also understand that the structure and timing of the payments may be modified by mutual agreement.

    Hmmmmm

  163. One thing going for Patterson, he only got beat 35-10 by Oklahoma on Sept 27...and that was Oklahoma's lowest output of the season---that's got to count for something!

  164. Mclovin we discussed that comment in a previous post. most seemed to think that meant that willis has been told he would be retained not who the next hc is.

    ReplyDelete
  165. McLovin - That's what Greg keeps saying - that it's a cover up for a Muschamp interview.

  166. can someone call gary patterson and ask him what the time me met with auburn was?

while talking with him can someone ask him what was discussed as well?

  169. M,

I still can't believe Muschamp's name still is coming up.

Everytime AU has had a coaching search, there are hot names mentioned that seem to never disappear.

THere is NO reason for WM to come to AU with what he has been offered at UT. We do not offer anything better, if you look at everything offered to him. Nothing.

  172. The sets of comments are hilarious. I can't believe a lot of it.

First, it is clear that we will not get a coach as good as Tuberville. Davis is the only one on the list that fits the bill and he ain't coming.

Second, Josh is right when he says Tuberville was the hot up and coming coach when we got him. The other one at the time was a guy named Frank Beamer, who's name some of you might know.

Third, I find it frickin ridiculous to think Gil is better than Patterson. There really isn't a good way to compare them. Patterson has done a lot more winning than Gil, but Gil was at the arm pit of college football.

Folks, don't get down on whoever the new coach is. Yes, he will be a downgrade from Tuberville, but that doesn't mean he will not end up being better over the long haul. That is just the way it is.

We may end up down for the next 3 or 4 years while a new staff comes together. We will be going from a big name coach to a coach that is an up and comer no matter who they pick. Unless Davis or possibly Spurrier show up, that is just the way it is.

Get behind the new coach, whether it is Gil, Patterson, or someone else. Don't expect the number of wins that we have become accustom to under the new coach for at least 3 or 4 years. Tuberville gradually built a solid program, and the next guy will likely do the same thing.

You just have to be patient. When we decided Tuberville was going to resign, we signed up for the rebuilding years.

  174. JAY!! Dude I gotta give you credit man you do an outstanding job buddy. It's because of you that I feel bad for not being a better contributor to the HABOTN. But really..I know we tell you how good of a job you do pretty regularly but you bust it man...Thanks..

    I asked this earlier.

Jay- When do interviewed coaches and other goings on at AU that are at that time "uncofirmed" become legit "confirmed" reports. Does AU release something saying yes it's true?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Maybe Patterson and the rest of the AU staff was talking to Muschamp about coming back as a coordinator... let's turn the rumor mill a little faster!

  184. Steve from Columbia,

Do you have proof that Muschamp isn't coming? Do you have anything documented? Any personal conversations with him?

I don't like unsubstantiated rumors detrimental to Auburn being spread on a message forum.

    Sound familiar Steve?

  185. It's confirmed when I see someone -- me, anyone -- quote someone official confirming something.

So simply saying "Dr. Rosenrosen has interviewed with Auburn, sources tell (insert news outlet here)" isn't official.

Seeing Dr. Rosenrosen admit to the interview or Dr. Rosenrosen's supervisor confirm contact ... that's when it's 100% legit in my eyes.

Unnamed sources lead you down bad roads sometimes ...

    ReplyDelete
  186. Ah yes, Dr. Rosenrosen. I hear he's good friends with John, John Cochtosen.
