I just spoke with Jay Jacobs. He said there has been "no change" in anything involving Tommy Tuberville. I have received three calls this morning -- all from credible sources -- insisting that Tuberville has been fired. That's simply inaccurate.
So that's the situation.
The door above provides access to the hallway housing Tuberville's and Jacobs' offices.
UPDATE: Paul Rhoads and Eddie Gran are in their offices going about their usual duties.
ALSO: I have an idea. Since we all have heard radio people claiming this and that since Monday, would you be up for creating a thread simply to post what the clowns (ie the unscrupulous "reporters") are reporting? That way, everyone can see who was correct and who was completely wrong.
Good idea or not?
(I'm going to get some art to accompany this post.)
Let the great scoop race begin!!
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeletethis deal reminds me of the ole joke about "how do you keep an idiot in suspense?"
I would love to see this. Being in SC, we don't get much scoop on our Tigers, just the Dabo Tigers from the upstate.
ReplyDeleteDo the thread Jay. It would be good to see.
ReplyDeleteAm I reading you correctly in that you are disagreeing with your sources?
Question - when were Tubs and the assistants hired? What if they are all fired but out of goodwill they are keeping them on until they make 10 years? Wasn't that some benchmark for benefits? That would explain the wait.
ReplyDeleteThey are already at the 10 year mark, I think Michael.
ReplyDeleteJGT: I have received three calls this morning -- all from credible sources -- insisting that Tuberville has been fired. That's simply inaccurate.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if this question seems a bit...impertinent...but how can the sources all be credible if the information they are providing is "simply inaccurate"?
Perhaps they have been credible in the past, or perhaps that are normally credible, or perhaps they have it right this time but it can not yet be verified. But if what they are saying today is in fact inaccurate, then at least as far as the Tuberville situation goes today, they are not credible, yes?
I don't think he's getting fired. When HCs get fired, the AD announces it on a Monday morning. The AD doesn't meet with the HC over a weeklong period to discuss firing him. I would bet that they're discussing the hiring of a new OC, the direction that the offense will go in (because there was no obvious direction this season), how much money they're going to spend on the new OC, etc.
ReplyDeletemrdude, you're killing us with your sense making and logical reasoning...
ReplyDeletei'm down. that way we can see who is/is not trustworthy. sweet.
ReplyDeleteI still hold to my original theory - they are bargaining on the conditions for him staying.
ReplyDeleteNo comment about any assistants? It has been commented on a national radio show.
ReplyDeleteJGT - any change in your percentage?
ReplyDeleteYeah Jay what is your take on what Dan Patrick is "reporting" about the assistants?
ReplyDeleteDo you think this is just a rehash of Del Greco's comments this morning or something more substantive?
Maybe Dan Patrick knows Jaybar
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Dan Patrick is making comments should make Auburn have to Respond in some way.
ReplyDeleteMonday: ask for the plan
ReplyDeleteTuesday: review the plan
Tuesday: toss the plan
Wednesday: prepare to fire
Fear the Due Process!
Ahhhh the Jaybar scoop! Good stuff right there...
ReplyDeletefanimnd,
ReplyDeleteI have talked to several assistants this morning. They have not been fired. but they are as much in the dark as we all seem to be.
--Charles
I say add the page... maybe call it something like those "Fact or Fiction" segments on tv???
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to look back when all is said and done and see who was reliable and who was simply stirring the pot. LOL!
Roman: By "credible," I mean these are people I trust. They're incorrect at the moment. Maybe Tuberville will get fired, but he's not fired as of this moment.
ReplyDeleteI have seen Eddie Gran and Paul Rhoads within the past 15 minutes. They're here doing their usual stuff.
Expect an announcement at 2:30
ReplyDelete-George
Jaywall: Exactly. We can look back.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me....are we still in 2007 or am I having a really bad case of deja vu without duck hunting?
ReplyDeleteHere Here for Jaywall....but Jay, you have to throw your stuff up there also :).
ReplyDeleteEddie - that made me just crack up. And I believe it was after the 2:30 meeting.
ReplyDeleteI miss George today. I wish he would register and bring the scoop.
ReplyDeleteIt seems we have had this dance every year since 2004.
ReplyDeleteSo Jay, were your sources saying that the deed had been done? or that the deed was going to happen?
ReplyDeleteOk, must do work. Will check in later.
ReplyDeleteI'll mention this later on a thread, but we set three key records yesterday.
ReplyDelete*New career high in pageviews
*New career high in visits
*New career high in absolute unique visitors
Thanks for your support!
Eddie: Deed had been done.
ReplyDeleteNot true.
Post it up Jay--hindsight is always 20-20...
ReplyDeleteWow, this is more exciting than the... 2008 Iron Bowl.
ReplyDelete2003- Jet Gate
ReplyDelete2004- Flirt with LSU
2005- Gibb Gate- New DC search
2006- Only quiet year
2007- Duck Hunting / Texas A&M / Arkansas
2008- Oh Crap Gate, we just lost to bama by 36.
If you trust rumor and innuendo, then I can unofficially confirm with uncertain doubt that there is a remote chance that Tommy Tuberville may or may not have at least a 50% chance of probably returning as AU's coach.
ReplyDeleteYou have to include Brad Lester's scoop from a few weeks ago. He is how I know Tubs is staying.
ReplyDeleteNo, Brian... hindsight is always 50-50
ReplyDeleteI think the "scorecard" thread is a great idea. CTT may yet be fired, but I'll believe it when I see it.
ReplyDeleteTerrific coverage as always, Jay G.
Jay,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea! Too bad it still makes AU look like total idiots.
New High in Registrations!!
Can you have he thread up after the 2:30 meeitng?
ReplyDelete50-50?
ReplyDeleteThe "Radio Reportage Reservoir," aka the RRR, is up and waiting for your input.
ReplyDeleteI moved it below this thread because it's less important.
Post what you hear.
Jay,
ReplyDeleteNot to get too personal here, but are you compensated based on registrations, pageviews, or visits? I think it goes w/out saying that we all appreciate your efforts here, for which you are due just compensation, I'm just interested in how this whole process works.
I have no financial stake in anything that happens at the HABOTN. That's a guarantee.
ReplyDeleteI do this as a service to the HOTTIES.
Brian ... Famous Pat Dye quote ... hindsight is always 50-50.
ReplyDelete"not to get too personal, but how do you get paid?" That's AUsome. Reminds me of Will Ferrell in Talledega Nights. "With all due respect, that idea ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a donkey getting it on".
ReplyDeleteJay G. = $7 million buyout!
ReplyDeleteI think Chuck Norris would be an awesome coach
ReplyDeleteChuck Norris wears Will Muschamp pajamas.
ReplyDeleteGibb Gate rocked
ReplyDeleteJet- You hearing anything different?
ReplyDeleteJay:
ReplyDeleteYou really need to open your own message board with subscriptions. You could make a fortune.
What about Matthew Mcconaughey? He did amazing things with very little talent over at Marshall a few years back. Do you think we have the talent to run the veer?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "gate" of the past ten years has to be Mike Price and "strippergate"....
ReplyDeleteIt's rollin baby!!!!
Roger that Jet...
ReplyDeleteNo Veer without Brad Lester. Spencer Pybus is kind of like that white linebacker from Remember the Titans
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the Veer, Denzel Washington did quite well with it over in VA in his first year as a coach. Won a championship I think.
ReplyDeleteFSJ- Stripper gate was great. My brother was Au at the time and Tubs was in the equipment room and said that Mike Price was going to get fired and this was before anyone knew about it. He called me and I told my bama friend and she called me crazy.
ReplyDeleteGood times.
I don't think we can afford Denzel though. He makes cash homey...
ReplyDeleteDel Greco said he had been fired?! Was he stating that as speculation or fact?
ReplyDeleteSome boards are saying Tubs and gang to Miss State
ReplyDeleteI want to run the offense that Billy Bob Thorton ran at Permian.
ReplyDeletethey dont give Matthew Mcconaughey's away. He would demand lots of pot, money and naked practices
ReplyDeleteThe leading hand sanitizer advertises that it kills 99.9% of germs...Chuck Norris kills 100% of whatever he wants
ReplyDeleteWartiger- Del Greco said that he talked with assistant coaches who told him that they thought they were gone along with Tubs.
ReplyDeleteI'm sticking by my 10:45 post, Eduardo ... I think there may have been some buyout discussions, but Tubs obviously holds what I called "the King" -- not an ace -- in that.
ReplyDeleteMy sense is that Auburn will lose its patience and pay the man soon.
Does Del Greco have any eligibility left?
ReplyDeleteThe Boobie Miles offense that got derailed when the star player got hurt, sounds like a winner to me. Oh wait they at least had one playmaker.
ReplyDeleteal.com...Goldberg...announcement...think Friday
ReplyDeleteHarrison- You left out beer. The TMZ video's of him in Mexico were darn funny.
ReplyDeleteAgainst Bama, we needed to run a Fake 20 Blast with Backside George Reverse like our lives depended on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eddie, I don't know Del Greco personally but he doesn't seem like the type of guy to make such a statement unless he was sure..
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Mike Leach doing a Golden Flake commercial. Arg! They be the best chips ever!
ReplyDeleteHavent seen them eddie, but i will now
ReplyDeleteWhat about Goldie Hawn? That Wildcats program was rapidly spiraling downward before she took over.
ReplyDeleteI saw that Brian, but how could Auburn not say anything with some media reporting that he is gone?
ReplyDeleteThat would be a mistake either way.
At least there is still plenty to talk about after the season.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone hear WMSP report this morning that Tuberville had been fired?
ReplyDeleteNegative..Jay what do you think really?? gone or what?
ReplyDeleteJacobs and Tubs are expected to meet today again. Something surely should come out of that.
ReplyDeleteJay- I listened to WMSP most of the morning, they only reported that WJOX reported it.
ReplyDeleteI usually listen to Barry and the loudmouth but i missed it this morning. Rick and Bubba were talking prostate exams. funny.
ReplyDeleteWartiger: I don't know.
ReplyDeleteA credible HOTTIE says Tim Brando also reporting that the offensive assistants have been fired. Has anyone else heard Brando say that?
Eddie ... Leach chatter gone crazy in past 15.
ReplyDeleteIf the VaJayJays don't fire Tuberville after all this time making us wait, I quit them.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for the HOTTIES:
Who's a bigger a-hole, Housel or Jacobs? (Jay, you can answer anonymously if you like. Just respond as "Tim." We won't know the difference.)
Would they drag out this to keep the talk off the SEC Game to steal the media attention from Bama this week...... Who knows but I would hope they end this soon.
ReplyDeleteSounds like we need a war room set up or something.
ReplyDeleteHey Jay,
ReplyDeleteI saw this on one of your buddy's blog...this wouldn't be a reference to you would it?
Athletic director Jay Jacobs arrived back at the athletic complex and remarked to one beat reporter that he would like to set up some kind of information relaying system so we wouldn't have to camp out in the lobby. (BTW, he made a similar suggestion last night.)
Either way, what's the deal behind this? Are they setting something up to relay info to you guys?
I think Jacobs is a disaster and Housel seemed to really love Auburn a lot, But then again what do i know
ReplyDeleteJay- I've heard Brando said the same thing, but I did not hear it with my own ears.
ReplyDeleteJet- Leach chatter blew up about 30 minutes ago. A fairly credible poster on the bunker reported it as #2 source and boom.
No way could we run a civilized campfire right now.
ReplyDeleteYou know how crazy it gets when we go past 75 participants? We had more than 2,000 people here yesterday.
I'll say this after meeting and chatting with the guy, one could never question Housel's dedication to AU. I mean, I love AU, but this guy takes it to a new level.
ReplyDeleteshould be working but can only ready one blog and that would be HABOTN...is there another that will have correct infromation?!
ReplyDeleteCBMF I can believe, but leach to AU is about as absurd as watson brown to LSU.
ReplyDeleteHousel really does love Auburn and is such a nice guy, but his role in Jetgate (even if he was just a patsy) cannot go unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteThe few times I've been around Jacobs, he has seemed like a decent guy. Maybe a little smug, but seems nice enough. Don't really consider him anything more than a puppet with regards to the Athletic Department, though.
I wish this stuff would come to an end...sigh..
ReplyDeleteJay-you gotta be sick of it..Imagine if it runs til after all the bowls..that's really gonna suck!
Jacobs is alright by me.
ReplyDeleteHe's definitely not incompetent. I have some issues with the way he handles things from a p.r. perspective, but I'm a reporter.
I went to lunch for an hour and there have been over 100 posts and two new threads since then.
ReplyDeleteWow.
also can't type!!
ReplyDeleteI agree Mike Leach is funny and everything, but my football coach he is not. Plus I like to rub the ball and play defense
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteOne of the more prominent Bama board moderators (i.e. the board owner) is reporting that Auburn is wanting certain assistants canned and Tuberville isn't agreeing to that.
He said his source says the feeling is that the damage between the two sides would be difficult to repair.
He also said that Miss. State is waiting to see what happens because they may take a run at Tuberville if he is indeed gone.
You can add this to your list of predictions.
Will- Agreed totally about Housel. I have a lot of respect for him. It was because of him that I was able to be a football manager at Auburn.
ReplyDeleteIn 1995, I was at the Georgia game and had bought club level seats on the street for dirt cheap because it was so cold. At halftime, I got a tap on the shoulder, and it was David Housel. The AU Box was right behind where I was sitting and he invited me in for half time to warm up. I told him my desire to become a football manager and he directed me to the guy that I needed to speak to in order to do that. We had a good laugh over that when I was there as a football manager. He truely love Auburn.
Sorry, felt obliged to share that story.
Harrison,
ReplyDeleteYou like to rub the ball?
Hey Harrison....was that a typo? You like to do what to the ball?
ReplyDeleteI do not doubt housel's love for AU. Whenhe had those pregame speaches on the radio you could just tell he loved AU. We all cringe at how CTT was treated in 2003's jetgate but that is how it was done in those days. As a result I think you have seen the whole country change their practices as to fire one hire one. So you could say that AU has made a difference.
ReplyDeleteuhhh yeah i meant run. run the ball. Will you know!!
ReplyDeletecool story Eddie.
ReplyDeleteHarrison, please keep your ball rubbing habits to yourself.
Harrison, I was starting to think that one or two of those thirty beers you had Sat night after the game might be having a lingering affect.
ReplyDeleteI got better. ready to do it again saturday?
ReplyDeleteFaker, I heard the same thing about Tubs refusing to fire any of the O staff. If that's the case, is it not true that they can fire him for insubordination and the terms of the buyout are null and void? AND, if that's the case, then wouldn't they be stalling so that he can negotiate a settlement to resign with? Something to chew on. I freakin LOVE STARTING RUMORS!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Its the Shula saga all over again.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that Tubs and Jacobs are about to arm wrassle for it!
ReplyDeleteShesaid,
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if that is true or not. I was just posting what I read from the owner of TI.
good read...
ReplyDeletehttp://blog.al.com/kevin-scarbinsky/2008/12/whether_he_stays_or_goes_tuber.html
Eddie, you just pointed out one of my favortie things about AU. It seems like every AU fan has a story similar to the one you told. It might be Coach Dye, or Tubs, or Bo, or some other AU icon reaching out or going out of their way to shake a hand, sign an autograph, or sit down and chat for a few mins. I don't care if UAT beat us by 36 or 100 last week. I wouldn't trade being an AU fan (and grad) for anything. If our chosen leaders decide that Tubs needs to go (I must say I disagree) then so be it, but he will always be an AU man in my mind. All of us on here understand that AU is much more than a FB team or a Univ. and I thnk Tubs gets that. I just hope the next guy does as well! WDE.
ReplyDeleteFaker,
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not a lawyer or anything but it seemed plausible. The way things are in the state education system this could be a legit scenario playing out.
Michael,
ReplyDeleteI heard it was thumb wrestling.
Jay - Did you ever see a copy of Muschamps "Head Coach in Waiting" contract?
ReplyDeleteso It is all about the retirement. Seems to me if you have made 3 mil a year for 10 years you probally have a good IRA or 401k. Whats next, the arkansas system? I do not buy MSU would hire CTT.
ReplyDeleteNo movie quotes today?
ReplyDeletei always liked housel. he always hooked my dad up with good parking at away games and got my mom a seat in the press box (she worked with his wife). I always get some autographed housel book or project for christmas. he is deep into au history.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Leach go to Washington?
ReplyDeleteSure what quote do you want?
ReplyDeleteKristina:
ReplyDeleteHeres a good movie clip...
Pass the Tylenol
My Uncle was good friends with President Walker's son, so he always got to sit in the President's box at the game. That of course ended after Jetgate.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of people around here know someone who lost their inside man during that whole debacle.
I saw Housel at Niffer's once. He ate half my burger. (part of that story is true)
ReplyDeletehmmm, NIffer's Corn nuggets...that goes great with waiting, that and a dollar beer.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Niffer's dollar beers are now $1.50 cents, you know because of high gas prices.
ReplyDeleteI for one don't buy the Houston Nutt style scenario. Tubby hates MSU (or at least he hated Sherrill), and none of the other jobs make a lot of sense for him.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is that it's one of two things:
1. Some sort of renegotiating of the contract that makes it more favorable for the University
2. They're playing a waiting game with some big name (Butch Davis?).
Otherwise it just doesn't make any sense. Not that it makes a lot to begin with.
Forget beer at Niffer's, just go for the fish bowl! You can't go wrong there...
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, fish bowls are now illegeal in Auburn. They no longer exist
ReplyDeleteI hate the rules that accompany the fish bowl. We always seem to be a person short.
ReplyDeleteWhat? No fishbowls? Oh the humanity....
ReplyDeleteWhoa no more fish bowl...what has become of the laws in Southeast Alabama?
ReplyDeleteThey do still have the mini-fishbowls, they just can't do the big one anymore. Pitchers of margaritas have been banished from the mexican restaurants as well.
ReplyDeleteI like fish bowls.
ReplyDeleteNo news is...
ReplyDelete(complete the thought game started)
mini-fishbowl..what a joke. might as well sell those pony-beers
ReplyDeletegood news?
ReplyDeleteOh lord, margarita pitchers...whats next??
ReplyDeleteActually I do remember seeing some kind of sign in Laredo's about the margarita pitchers after the ThUGA game. Bummer...
ReplyDeleteYeah between that and jacking up the beer prices, burger night just ain't what it used to be.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I graduated (may 07) before it really hit.
No news is the order of the day.
ReplyDeleteJayG coming up soon on the Roundtable according to Josh Moon.
ReplyDeleteThe worst radio/reporter personality ever was Herb Winches. The day after Shula was fired, I had to drive to Bham. He was on the radio that morning saying that Steve Spurrier was in Tuscaloosa and would be introduced as the new Bama coach. By the time I got to Birmingham he was saying that Houston Nutt would be a candidate.
ReplyDeleteMr. S -
ReplyDeleteis par for the course...
Jay,
ReplyDeleteSo do the reporters there have a side betting pool as to what is going to happen and when it happens?
Oh lawd...Mr. United up..
ReplyDeleteMr. United is as bad or worse than the trivia hos!
ReplyDeleteWorse than the trivia girls = EPIC FAIL.
ReplyDeleteYou guys must be listening on the radio instead of the online feed because you had him coming on the phone long before I did.
ReplyDeleteNahh...Doug called and audible and put some mortgage banker on first.
ReplyDeleteWow Mr. United with the love for Jay G.
ReplyDeleteMr. United gave Jay G. a shout out. Oh boy.
ReplyDeleteJust got a text from a friend in Mobile, saying that 104.5 is reporting a 1 o'clock press conference.
ReplyDeleteAny truth to that at all?
I'm inclined to not believe it, as Jay hasn't mentioned it at all.
"But moving along..."
ReplyDeleteUnited calling out Mr. Sensible and the HABOTN Hotties.
ReplyDeleteThen Mr. United tried to light up Mr. S. - very lame stuff there.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Sorry Mr. United, we talk in English here not habonics. Good lawrd.
ReplyDeleteI consider myself schooled...
ReplyDeleteWhy is he calling me out?
ReplyDeleteoops, not 104.5. thinking of my local station in nashville.
ReplyDelete105.5 wnsp in mobile.
sorry.
He didn't explain...He called you Mr. Senseless.
ReplyDeleteOk. Sure.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea Mr. United - you obviously read the HABOTN, so why not register here and then you can "skool" us all?
ReplyDeleteWhat a moron. That rivals some of the PF callers for sheer ignorance and having an IQ below 100.
Mr. S.,
ReplyDeleteHe tried to say that you are nice to Josh and Doug on air but then you rip them on the blog.
He came across as quite a tool.
Mr. United= George
ReplyDeleteWhat has this world come to when gimmick talk radio callers call out people on an internet blog?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Mr. United is so un-informed. Mr. S is the one who actively promotes the Roundtable and probably deserves quite abit of the credit for all that now listen along with Jay G.
ReplyDeleteyep, Mr. United is definitley Tim. Maybe he's the dude Jay G kept knocking out of the ball park so he's a bit bitter.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr. United is Faker.
ReplyDeleteHe came across as something that rhymes with "woosh"...
ReplyDeleteMon..don't make me go there.
ReplyDeleteI like Doug and Josh. I don't always agree with them, but I have no beef.
ReplyDeleteHe's just stirring the pot; nothing better to do on the lunch break I suppose.
It's all good.
maybe we should move on and not give Mr. United any more of our time than he deserves...
ReplyDeleteBack to work for me, gang. Ye who have the email please him me up if anything noteworthy goes down this pm.
ReplyDeleteLater, Hotties!
Mr. United you should man up and post. We promise not to be mean to you.
ReplyDelete(except that I think Mr. U=Faker)
Lata, Sensi ;-)
ReplyDeletework keeps getting in the way....just lurking when I can
ReplyDeleteConference calls stink.
ReplyDeleteI have to do a geekified Webinar at 2:00.
ReplyDeleteAwww, faker, are you actually having to work today?
ReplyDeleteWEG, works ALWAYS gets in the way. DANG IT
ReplyDeleteI work every day..
ReplyDeleteMon...
ReplyDeleteYou have the geek part down... :-)
I have a 2-3 easter conference call myself. So I'm sure the news will break while I'm on that. Luckily I can call from my desk and not a conference room.
ReplyDeleteeastern, not easter...but I'm sure if they could have me on a call on Easter they would do that too.
ReplyDeleteLoop hole in the Patrino contract....shocking
ReplyDeleteBet on Finebaum to break it. He seems to own these from the radio standpoint.
ReplyDeleteDetails Kristina?
ReplyDeleteThat's just what Moon said. He said that he thought there was a clause that said he couldn't go to an SEC west school, but then he heard that there is a loop hole that would allow him to go to Auburn.
ReplyDeleteSorry Josh, but I don't believe that for a minute.
ReplyDeletePreach it, Country
ReplyDeleteSpoke too soon...hush country
ReplyDeleteThey will get a fat TRSA check at some point - no doubt about that.
ReplyDeletea webinar.......that sounds fancy. maybe the 'jays' should give that a try.
ReplyDeleteAlready did my conf. call this a.m. And slipped out for a warm bowl of chili.
ReplyDeleteThe time being doesn't have anything to do w/ restructuring the contract for the university's benefit. That's truly the area where Tuberville has no motivation.
This is the separation agreement ... and if it is, then all the whining about the time it has taken is crazy. I will be glad they took the time.
And if they fire him and pay him 6 large, then I will believe they will have at least tried to get him out before paying him the cheese.
Somebody ping me when Jay G comes up so I can turn the radio up.
ReplyDeleteTubs is gone
ReplyDelete
