AUBURN—Tommy Tuberville is resigning as head football coach at
Auburn, announced Athletics Director Jay Jacobs, Wednesday. Tuberville
has served as the program’s head coach the last 10 seasons.
“The last 10 years have been a great time in my life, both
professionally and personally,” Tuberville said. “It’s been a
great place to coach and live, and we’ve had a lot of success along
the way. I’m going to remain in Auburn and help the Auburn family
however I can. I’m very appreciative of the coaches, players, staff
and Auburn fans over the last decade.”
In 10 years at Auburn, Tuberville posted an 85-40 record and a
51-29 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Tuberville directed the
program to eight winning seasons, including a perfect 13-0 mark in
2004.
“Tommy and I have had the opportunity to discuss the direction
of the program,” Jacobs said. “Through those discussions, Tommy felt
it would be in his and the program’s best interest to step aside as
Auburn’s head football coach.”
“We appreciate everything Tommy has done for this program,
this university and the Auburn community over the last 10 years,”
Jacobs said. “He has established a strong foundation to build upon and
we thank him for the standard he set. We wish Tommy and his
family—wife Suzanne, and sons Tucker and Troy—nothing but the
best.”
The buyout portion of Tuberville’s contract will be fulfilled,
from which no state or university funds will be used. All assistant and
contractual staff will be paid according to their respective contracts.
“I will begin the search immediately for Auburn’s next head
football coach,” Jacobs said. “We will move as quickly and
efficiently as we possibly can, but we’re going to be thorough and
strategic with our search to find the best fit for Auburn.”
A press conference with Athletics Director Jay Jacobs will be
held at 11 a.m. CT in the Athletic Complex Auditorium on Thursday. The
press conference will be closed to the public.
Wow sad day for Auburn fans!
ReplyDeleteThe buyout portion of Tuberville’s contract will be fulfilled,
ReplyDeletefrom which no state or university funds will be used.
Mr. low-down has agreed to pay the money so he can poke a stick in tommys eye.
Jay... Just so you know, you're last 5 or so posts have not been showing up in Google Reader. FYI
ReplyDeleteMost interesting line-" I'm going to remain in Auburn and help the Auburn family however I can." Doesn't sound like a coach out looking for a job to me.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Weis's buyout must be the $20 million originally thought, and not the $4 million reported by the Chicago press.
ReplyDeleteI don't really get the whole "resigning but still getting paid a buyout" thing. I may be ignorant, but I always thought that buyouts worked like this: We fire you, we pay you. You leave us, you pay us. Can someone clear this scenario up for me? Seems odd...
ReplyDeleteI retro-posted a comment from Nick Saban.
ReplyDelete(I didn't think it belonged at the top.)
Here's a reproduction if you don't feel like checking that out:
"I really question some of the judgment relative to how it is for our game that people who have those kinds of relationships and have done that kind of job and affected so many people in a positive way and have had a reasonable amount of success relative to their circumstances, would not be given more respect and consideration that what these guys have been. So I guess we're 5-7 away from the same thing."
I have no idea what Saban was saying..guess that's why i'm an AU fan..
ReplyDeleteI can understand where Saban is coming from. I believe that Tommy and him were on good terms personally, so that is not surprising. Not surprising should be that fans react this way with the salary that they make.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a good day for Auburn right this minute. Let's hope the hire brings the sun back out.
I guess he's saying that it's b.s. for Auburn to bump Tuberville out.
ReplyDeleteBut, officially, he resigned.
So who knows?
Wade, maybe I am wrong but I think this was done to try and put the best face on a bad situation. This way, AU doesn't "fire" Tubs, they can call it a resignation and he still collects his money. I doubt you will hear much bad talk of AU from CTT this way, but who knows. Obviously, the ex-assistant coachs' wives did not receive this memo.
ReplyDeleteI know what Saban means in his quote, but that is a jumbled mess of a sentence.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, why stick the meaningless TD at the end?
ReplyDeleteI am sad and disappointed with this decision but I love AU..not even an alumni just love'em that's all. Now let's go get the best coach out there Jacobs..personally I like the sound of the guy from Buffalo..
ReplyDeleteCTT was sorry to see Shula go also, correct? Lets face it, coaches almost always defend each other about the "unfair" treatment they receive.
ReplyDelete“Tommy and I have had the opportunity to discuss the direction
ReplyDeleteof the program,” Jacobs said. “Through those discussions, Tommy felt
it would be in his and the program’s best interest to step aside as
Auburn’s head football coach.”
How did they disagree on where program was headed. (Asst.coaches)
Tuberville resigning is about as likely as Jay G being the next h.c. That statment makes me sick. I hope TT stays in Auburn and he can watch games with me and my boys
ReplyDeleteTHIS FRICKIN SUCKS JAY!!..make'em take it back..tell'em they can't fire CTT!
ReplyDeleteIf he meant it, Saban makes a good statement. Even he thinks the way it was handled is BS.
ReplyDeleteAU made a monster mistake today. I can't defend it and hope no ne asks me to. I know others may not share my opinion but this was low down.
I see the JJ spin machine is on the uber high setting.
ReplyDeleteI agree James. I don't quite buy the resignation part. I'm not sure anyone does.
ReplyDeletethat statement from Tubs does make me really sad. He is a good guy. I'll wait to hear details but I'm just interested why he chose to go along with the "retiring" facade and doesn't feel so scorned that he would leave the town.
ReplyDeleteI graduated in '07, and all the facebook statuses from my Auburn network (and it's a lot) are reacting quite negatively to the news. Just a random note, I guess.
on the previous thread, i posted that i thought saban's comment was "great". tubs did a world of good here, saban hopes to do the same at uat. odds of saban lasting 8 more years after this year? not good.
ReplyDeletehappiest man in college football?????
ReplyDeleteJIMMY SEXTON, "10%, I'm rich biatch!"
The words of CTT's statement makes me wonder if he is going to be like me and get the nice buyout and then work for the university to raise money and be an ambassador of goodwill.
ReplyDeletehttp://louisville.edu/ur/ucomm/mags/spring2007/crum.html
Well said Bowies... Man I miss Chappelle Show
ReplyDeleteRE Saban: ALL coaches always "stick up for" other coaches. And he's EXACTLY right that he's a 5-7 season away from being in the same position.
ReplyDeleteI love how they say someone "resigned" but yet still pay them the buyout. Do they think we are stupid?
ReplyDeleteIt's a good statement. Not sure why y'all are acting confused about the resignation part. It's the first good PR move they've orchestrated in a while.
ReplyDeletePERSPECTIVE TIME OUT:
It's football. We're not talking world hunger here folks. Stop your crying. It's a job. I've never "resigned" from job due to less than satisfactory performance and left with a bonus. Have you?
Onward and upward.
jay, any word on a replacement? meaning what are rumors?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tubs can take Lou Holtz's place on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteSo Tubs says he is going to remain in Auburn? I know his kids have grown up in the schools here so I am sure he doesn't want to relocate them. I wish Tubs would take the AD job but I know he couldn't work with the BT. I guess Tubs and Borges can meet at McDonalds for breakfast now.
ReplyDeleteMon it's a spin statement.
ReplyDeleteI work for one of the largest companies in the country. We put out these types of BS statements all the time.
Such and such VP has decided to retire (with 10 years service no less). We wish them the best, blah blah blah.....
Please.
just so you all know that worlds greatest movie, "Christmas Story" is on right now. This comment is brought to you by rich chocolate ovaltine.
ReplyDeletekeep in mind that over 70% of the people posting here were all for getting rid of Thomas Hawley. it's time to move on, i promise he will be alright and rich. WAR DAMN. P.S., can we get a do-over for this season?
I saw this happen with UT this year living in Tennessee.
ReplyDelete1st it was the outrage at the coach saying he needs to be fired.
2nd it was the being gald the team made a change.
3rd it was seeing the coach saddened to be let go and suddenly these same people feel sad because he is human.
4th it was the "I still love the old coach, it wasn't me that wanted him fired"
and finally it was the "I can't wait to see the changes that will happen".
I don't understand why this is such a bad day for Auburn Football. Recruiting wasn't going to be good with such disaray with in the program, coach being fired in the middle of season; lossing season; etc. The problem with most Auburn fans is no one talks National Championships. You have to set your goals high and the winningest coach in SEC isn't the highest goal I have as an Auburn fan.
ReplyDeleteWell, here comes the negative feedback already. Antonio Coleman's nephew has already decommitted, a LB named Atchinson has decommitted, and Coleman's nephew said Antonio is already talking about going pro early because of it. I have a feeling this is going to be the start of a rough offseason for recruiting and players leaving for the league.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Holtz has a job with ESPN for life if he wants it.
ReplyDeleteBefore he got there ESPN didn't get good access to Notre Dame, now that he is there they have an in there.
Recruits pull out all the time. If we make the right hire, we'll pull in our share.
ReplyDeleteThe sky isn't falling.
I'd like to see links to all of these "decommits".
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Monica. People act like CTT has been dragged through the mud and all his possessions taken away. Fact is he will be under no pressure for the first time in years, can go to all of the Lee-Scott games he wishes and will have 6 million big ones added to an already fat bank account. Could this have been handled better? Sure, but don't cry for CTT he made out fairly well, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteTuberville's buyout apparently will be pro-rated based on his 11 months of service this season.
ReplyDeleteSo it'll be less than $6 million.
RK, I wish they would replace him. I always feel like I need to dry off my tv screen when he finishes talking.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is probably not going to be the last coach to get fired this year. After losses to Dayton, Northern Iowa, and Mercer, I don't see Lebo being around at the end of the year either. So that is 2 of the top sports at the school firing it's coaches and baseball is bringing in a new one this year. This is starting to get depressing.
ReplyDeleteLets face it folks, this was about a disfunctional relationship that had to come to an end. There was simply too much damage done to ever be repaired. I am thankful for what coach TT has done for Auburn in the past ten years...he has certainly left the program in far better shape than he found it. In the end and knowing that a house divided against itself cannot stand, I feel this is for the best.
ReplyDeleteJay:
ReplyDeleteHope you will permit me this....
Saban's entire statement according to Rappaport...
Saban
I don't know if I can copy the links on here or not. But I am a subscriber to the auburn scout.com site and they have it on their front page. The bad thing is that both of them are now leaning toward Alabama. Our only shot is to get someone in there quick and hope he is good at changing their minds, cause right now they sounded pretty pissed at the situation.
ReplyDeleteJames, here's a little info on Coleman.
ReplyDeleteMobile (Ala.) Williamson DL Terrance Coleman has decommitted from Auburn. Coleman plans to consider the Tigers again once a new coach is named, but for now, he's opening his recruitment back up.
Or Rapoport. I can never spell his name correctly.
ReplyDeleteContract reads "pro rata payments shall be made for partial years."
ReplyDeleteMark Murphy is saying that the coaches that he has already heard is Leach, Holtz, Turner Gill, Brian Kelley, and Butch Davis. Me personally, I think Turner Gill would be a great hire.
ReplyDeleteJay that saved them what half a million.
ReplyDeleteSo how much does that lop off of the $6M?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it will knock off around a million.
ReplyDeleteAs Jay said yesterday, there is alot of time between now and signing day. Any reasonable person would expect many of these kids to rethink their prior decision based on what has happened. Don't freak out yet, lets see who they hire.
ReplyDelete5.1m
ReplyDeleteAU1N04:
ReplyDeleteI feel stupid after posting that.
Makes sense.
Thanks
The loss of Terence Coleman is huge. Let the flood gates open. Just another black eye on Auburn, like we hadn't had enough of them this year.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel stupid. It's fuzzy math.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear all the idiots tell us how "articulate" Turner Gill is.
ReplyDeleteHere is a name to throw out there...Larry Blakeney. He has ties to Auburn already and I think he has done pretty well for himself down in Troy. They probably won't do it because he is one of Dye's boys, but it is a shame he hasn't had a chance to get a big job after what he has done at Troy.
ReplyDeleteOk, so CTT and all the assistants are fired, resigned whatever. In my opinion he has done a great job. The next HC needs to be a great hire, who would it be?
ReplyDeleteif Tubs pulls the biggest miracle of the season and beats Bama, goes 6-6, does this happen?
ReplyDeleteSteve, you used to be the sunshine guy, now it's the end of the world.
ReplyDeleteYou know I liked Tubbs and athletic dept handled this poorly, which surprises me because they have had practice at it, but in the big picture it is not bad for wanting to improve your situation. Review the record and Tubbs is an 8 or 9 win a season coach. If the new guy doesn't do better, then he should be run also.
ReplyDeleteHowever, remember Tubbs statement about AU getting the players that will come here. Was he handicapped because of the talent that will come to AU?
Blakeney is TOO old.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, Liv Tyler=HOT
so Blakeney brings back Franklin for Round 2? that would be horrible.
ReplyDeleteAlright, peeps, who are the coaching candidates being mentioned at this juncture?
ReplyDeleteScottie, I say yes. If this was a You have to get rid of the assistants...
ReplyDeleteI think Muschamp is already in the fold.
ReplyDeleteBook it Dan-o.
I don't care how articulate he is. Anybody who can take Buffalo to a winning record in 2 years as bad as that team was has my respect. I would rather have him that Holtz or "The Mad Scientist" known as Mike Leach.
ReplyDeleteScottie B, the answer is NO. A resounding No. If he was competitive against bammer, the answer is NO.
ReplyDeletePaul Johnson, Petrino, Leach, Spurrier
ReplyDeleteAU1N04...
ReplyDeleteIn addition to getting a great coach, it would help Auburn if he were a splashy hire too.
WTC, what if this was REALLY Tubs decision? I know everyone thinks its highly unlikely, but it could be possible. Maybe he didn't want to start over with a new staff, has anyone considered that?
ReplyDeleteYou guys think Al Borges will call Tuberville to make sure he's doing ok? Maybe Tony Franklin will send him some chocolate.
ReplyDeleteRK, are the people up there happy with Lane Kiffin being hired? He seemed pretty confident in his press conference that he could get the job done.
I think Tub has done a good job. Not great, but good.
ReplyDeleteHe left the program in far better shape than he recieved it. Kept us clean and made us a winner again.
We need someone to come in and take us to the next level on a consistent basis.
Also whoever comes in needs to keep James Willis.
I read Muschamp somewhere had said no....
ReplyDeleteScottie,
ReplyDeleteI think at 6-6 with the streak at 7 TT is still employed, though we will never really know.
The Vol fans that I know seem to be 50/50 win Kiffin. They either love the hire or they absolutely think it's the worst hire ever.
ReplyDeleteRK - I agree about the big hire
ReplyDeleteAt 6-6, I think they make him fire most of the offensive staff, but he comes back.
ReplyDeleteAt 5-7, but with a 24-17 type loss to Alabama where it was hard faught, I think they make him fir most of his offensive staff, but he comes back.
Yeah but with Kiffin you get a hot wife in tow.
ReplyDeleteWhoever the coach is, the wife needs to be above par....ala kiffin.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue how Kiffin will do, but I'm pretty excited to see it unfold.
ReplyDeleteNext year should be very interesting in both divisions.
See, you can always rely on a dirty old man...way to go Denny!!
ReplyDeleteAny idea where you read that about Muschamp AU1N04?
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteRelax buddy. Tubs wasn't fully committed. We had a coaching change, big deal. No one single coaching change in the history of college football ever looks good at first. How else could we have handled it? Auburn was a divided family and every single coach who recruits against us knew it. Now we can move forward.
Besides, a lot of this falls on ctt and he knows that. If he didn't think so, don't you think he wouldn't have come out with his statement. I mean of all people, ctt would speak his mind if he truly thought he didn't deserve some of the blame.
We will move on.
For a brief period of time (less than a week, post-Fulmer?), Tubs was the longest-tenured head coach in SEC...
ReplyDeleteSpurrier= no chance in hell. Better start lowering those expectations just a little bit. I am seeing more of an up-and-coming coach being hired.
ReplyDeleteWe can hire Kiffin's wife.
ReplyDeletei agree he would still be in regardless if he wanted to change assistants or not. are you going to run off a guy who is 8-2 vs. the Tide? no way.
ReplyDeletepeople are pretty excited here in knoxville so far. most of my peeps say they really haven't had anything to be really excited about in Tennessee football in a long time so it's pretty positive.
oh, and they REALLY think his wife is HOT. that should buy Kiffin some time anyways. ha.
(just in case my wife reads this, you are SOOOOO much hotter than Mrs. Kiffin. seriously, you are.)
Just - I think on CBS Sportsline....yup CBS...
ReplyDeleteThe school hasn't waited around. Tubs has spoken to both AD Jay Jacobs and president Jay Gogue since Monday. It has contacted both Mike Leach and Bobby Petrino. Also, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp told the school no. Auburn may have contacted Steve Spurrier as well.
Most UT fans here in Chattanooga are split right down the middle.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good hire for them.
It will be tuff to match kiffins wife. WOW
ReplyDeleteI don't think you Spurrier is above our "expectations". Look where he is at. If Auburn had an opening when Spurrier left the NFL, there's a good chance he could be here.
ReplyDeleteYou're having that same attitude Tuberville had when he talked about the kind of players Auburn could get.
``Wow,'' Urban Meyer said. ``Tommy Tuberville? I'm really, really surprised.''
ReplyDeleteWhere did you see that RK?
ReplyDeleteHe's probably glad Tubs won't be around to own him like he has been the past few years.
It was on AL.com
ReplyDeleteFaker - I'm not what who you work for matters, but OK. You think you had to tell me that was a "spin statement"? What do you think PR is but professional spin? Sheesh. Rookie.
ReplyDeleteI would settle for a coach with a wife that looked like liv tyler. So, that should help with the search.
ReplyDeleteThis just keeps getting better. David Connor and 2010 verbal BJ Chitty just decommitted. Ouch, we are taking a beating right now.
ReplyDeleteProfessional Spin= Class
ReplyDeleteI've read that Petrino and Muschamp are out.
ReplyDeleteNot too thrilled with the remaining candidates.
Yep - If Saban didn't think he was 5-7 away from the same thing TEN YEARS FROM NOW he wasn't paying attention.
ReplyDeleteOf course players are decommitting. They were never really committed anyway because they haven't signed LOI yet.
ReplyDeletesoooo.....
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I think we have to lower our expectations is because of the damage all the boosters have done to Auburn's rep. After jetgate and now we fire a coach with Tub's reputation after one losing season... would you blame a coach for not wanting any part of this situation.
ReplyDeleteDenny, you been watching 'ARMEGEDDON' tonite?
ReplyDeleteThat thing you do
ReplyDeleteBrawndo where are you reading Muschamp is out? And who are the other candidates you mention?
ReplyDeleteBefore people think the sky is falling over the recruits...if we make the right hire, they will get pulled back in.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, we were going to lose our share anyway due to the way the season has gone. We'll pick some back up.
Some of the people we had commited we needed to drop anyway.
ahah! that is a pretty good flick. my fav Liv movie.
ReplyDeleteshe makes a pretty good elf too.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a lot of the coaching candidates are utilizing the spread offense.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this'll be a factor in the coaching search. Should it?
I heard Ed Orgeron is looking to get back into coaching. Can you imagine him in Auburn colors. Yah Yah Yah Yah Auburn Fut-bawl!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAt least I feel Tommy will handle this with class.
ReplyDeleteOr a wife that looks like Scarlett Johansson
ReplyDeleteLost in Translation= Hot
Tell em about it, Jo Jo.
ReplyDeleteCoach O will be the defensive line coach at Tennessee under Kiffin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad day this was for me.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame to see the golden era of AU football end like this.
I don't expect to see another 10 year period this successful in my lifetime. No other coach has had the success of Tubs; why are so many people so sure that the next one will?
Like it or not, AU is a vary difficult place to recruit. 80% of the state grows up as bammers, and that's hard to overcome. We get some from Fl and Ga, but seldom get the best. This class will be lucky to make the top 40.
Whoever the next coach is, I doubt he'll last more than 4 years and will never win more than 8 games. And then the next one will come along and take his crack at it. And so on.
Our decade(s) long nightmare is just beginning.
Good job on all your reporting Jay. It must be something of a relief to you that its finally over.
I think someone with a wife that looks like Elizabeth Banks would be nice...if not her then maybe Jessica Alba.
ReplyDeleteSeveral media outlets have reported that Muschamp has declined interest. He could be lying, though, who knows.
ReplyDeletewhat about the offensive coordinator from Oklahoma? i don't know his name, his age, his resume, or his driving record, but i know he knows how to put up 60 points on a regular basis. Tubs said that was the type of offense he would like to run.
ReplyDeleteWhy do most of the people on here sound like my 5 year old son when I told him Tuberville wouldn't be the coach anymore? Grow up. It's big-time college football. We've had to replace a coach before and the world didn't collapse.
ReplyDeleteNewsflash: we ain't Ole Miss. We should expect and we deserve better than 8-4 every year.
I'm surprised so many people have such low expectations for our program.
ReplyDeleteI'm worred that the people doing the hiring might screw up, but some people are acting like we are Mississippi State.
P. Marshall is reporting that Cotton has decommitted.
ReplyDeleteok, so at least we can all agree on these three things:
ReplyDelete1. must score points on O
2. must not allow many points on D
3. must have smoking hot wife.
did i miss anything?
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. It won't be over for us, because we won't let it be over. And when the going gets tough........................................the tough get going......who's with me.
So that's three guys.
ReplyDeleteShould be expected. Having a coach fired is a big deal.
I feel sorta like we've all had a toxic cleanse.
ReplyDeleteScottie b you have got all the bases covered. Also, when we score lots of points the defense must allow less points than we score. Smokin' hot wife is a must as well.
ReplyDeleteKevin Wilson, Oklahoma offensive coordinator.
ReplyDeleteHere's my question, though: is he good because he's a great playcaller or is he good because he has great talent that plays against awful defenses?
Jim,
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at the overreaction myself.
I don't think Cotton has decommitted.
ReplyDeleteJust spoke to Cotton, who just spoke to Philip Lutzenkirchen. He said both of them were/are very surprised by this move. Cotton said Steve Ensminger was by his house today visiting. Ensminger visited Lutzenkirchen yesterday. According to Cotton, both he and Lutzenkirchen will stay committed to Auburn until they figure out what is going to happen.
>>In my opinion he has done a great job.<<
ReplyDelete8-4 yearly average.
1st loss to Vandy in 50 years. VANDY. Half a CENTURY.
3 straight losses to UGA for the first time in a quarter-century.
Worst loss to Alabama in 46 years.
We've lost to Ole Miss four times since 1965. Four of them are Tubby's.
10-11 in his last 21 SEC games.
Tuberville's a great coach, alright.
No wonder Saban's sad to see him go.
Jim in S, what happened to Ole Miss when they had a bad year and fired Cutcliffe? Ed Friggin' Orgeron. it took them years to recover. yikes!
ReplyDeletei for one was in Tubs' corner. i hate to see him go. however, i understand the circumstances with shattered relationships we've been talking about for months. i'm not a big fan of how it went down but what do i know?
Sorry.
ReplyDeleteOnly three of those losses to Ole Miss are Tubby's.
Well hopefully we don't hire a Mike Shula/Ed Orgeron type.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, the only reason Cutcliff had good seasons at Ole Miss was because of Eli.
Hey Monica, I see where your boy Tim Brewster in on a list compiled by Auburnsports.com
ReplyDeleteActually that is 5 guys now Jay G. Gotta love those knee jerk reactions by recruits. "Verbal Committments" are the biggest joke in college football.
ReplyDeleteI liked CTT, but it is time to move on. Teeth gnashing is not constructive. UofL moved on after me, got a little known coach by the name of Rick Pitino to take my place. I think it worked out nicely. Auburn will do the right thing and the fans are the ones that will respond and make things right. That is what separates Auburn from most of the schools out there, Auburn's fan base is in the top five in the country. Actually from what I have seen, they are the best in the country.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to the recruits what would you expect them to do. I think if AU makes a good hire most if them will be right back. So lets not turn Jordan Hare into a soccer field just yet. Guys and gals I know it was a pr statement that was released but the part about staying in auburn tells me that this may have been mutual and he may just want to chill and enjoy his family. I doubt he says that and then moves to starkville.
ReplyDeleteBosley was right. Turds are rising. And I ain't talking about the HOTTIES. I'm talking about people with entirely too much money and too much time on their hands and completely skewed perspectives of reality.
ReplyDeleteVerbal commmittments are not in the barn. They never were 'Ours' to begin with. They will 'Ours' again once a new coach is hired and talks to them.
ReplyDeleteTubs with Borges: 41-9
ReplyDeleteWithout: 44-31
Which record is the anomaly?
Petino did run into the mighty Hilltoppers last week though.
ReplyDeleteI think Tubs should have never gotten rid of Borges.
ReplyDeleteWhen we hired Shug Jordan, he was the basketball coach at Georgia.
ReplyDeleteAny good basketball coaches available?
For better or worse (and for what it is worth), the same party that told me Tubbs was gone at 3:30 also told me Mike Leach has been offered and has accepted the job. I stress for what it is worth. If that is true we will get the opposite of Tubbs: high scoring offense with a crappy defense.
ReplyDeleteIf Borges was still here, Auburn would be at worst 8-3 and Tub would be hunting in Arkansas in a week or so still with a job.
ReplyDeleteI do not want Leach. That would be a TERRIBLE hire. He will never fit in at Auburn and he is no upgrade from Tuberville.
ReplyDeleteMontez Robinson, a 4-star defensive end just decommitted also. This really sucks, he was a stud. He just said since Tubs is gone, then that means the assistants are gone. He is not gonna wait around for another coach. His choices are now Alabama, Georgia, and Purdue. Auburn is no longer in the picture. We might set the record for the most decommittments in a 5 hour span.
ReplyDeleteNot being sarcastic but a lot of these recruits we beat out USM and UCF. Why would they de-commit.
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteAssuming you're right...do we have the athletes to run Leach's offense? Just curious...
well, we apparently didn't have the players to run Franklin's offense so i say.......no.
ReplyDeleteOn another not, our baskeball team is losing to Xavier by 10 with 5 minutes left. Enjoy Lebo's last year.
ReplyDeleteBrawndo
ReplyDeleteRobert Montgomery Knight is available.
Brian from troy - where exactly are you getting your info?
ReplyDeleteNo. But that's the point. We have no playmakers on offense now, and probably weren't gonna get any. Leach has been successful getting those even having to recruit against Texas and Oklahoma. Not saying I would welcome the guy, but....Also, expect all of our 4-star + recruits to decommit. There is no more reason to get disappointed by that action than there was to get excited by their choice in the first place. Signing day is a looooong way away.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me we lack the Qb who can throw it to a spot on the field. Also I think we lack WRs who can:
ReplyDelete1. catch
2. run good routes
3. Get open
but they can block ok.
I predicted a 23 point victory by XU tonight. Not a surprise to lose to them. Better basketball school than Auburn.
ReplyDeleteAny chance the new coach asks fans to wear blue to all the games? I like that look a lot better than the bright construction worker like orange.
ReplyDeleteGuys, the Leach bandwagon is weak. Shall I post his record again?
ReplyDelete7-6
7-5
9-5
8-5
8-4
9-3
8-5
9-4
11-1
Look familiar?
well, i think i've had enough for the nite. if anything major happens, twitter me phreddie.
ReplyDeletewar damn eagle!
Thank you SheSaid. Leach is no upgrade from Tubs. Sure right now his name sounds good because he's gone 11-1 this year but look at the other years.
ReplyDeleteShesaid,
ReplyDeleteI concur on Leach.
wow hotties..what a day. i will give up my post reading this evening. great work today jay. I can't even imagine what it must be like to chase a story as crazy as this one. later. WDE
ReplyDeleteSo what do you guys think? Is Auburn looking to get a veteran coach like Leach or give someone their first head coaching position like the OU coordinator? Or maybe...a blast from the past ....JACK CROWE! He's done wonders at Jax State! j/k.
ReplyDeleteBased on the TX rival site, Muschamp has not been contacted by Auburn. Sources say no one from Auburn has made no attempt to contact him.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it will be leach. That does not make sense. He is a one hit wonder like vanilla Ice. Bad bad hire. Unless he is paying AU to coach here.
ReplyDeleteLeach will be like the anti tubs, but with the same results.
ReplyDeleteDenny Crum -- "Robert Montgomery Knight is available."
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
I wonder what kind of offense he'd run?
I put my money on established coach.
ReplyDeleteSo no Muschamp?

ReplyDeleteJay - What are the chances of an active or retired NFL coach?
ReplyDeleteI found the information on autigers.com, the auburn scout site, and on Philip Marshall's site that he has. I am a member to both of those. The scout site usually gets stuff up pretty quick, but I am still a bigger fan of the HABOTN. Better class of people here. The fans on that scout site are crazy and delusional.
ReplyDeleteIf you can get a guy like Bobby Petrino, who clearly is a star, then why go for someone who may or may not be a star?
ReplyDeleteMoney, you say?
Hey, you just saved $900k on the pro-rated buyout!
Who's the former OU coordinator who just got canned as head coach from that university in San Diego?
ReplyDeleteNo Leach please. Frankly I don't know who will be a good candidate. Money talks, and obviously Auburn is willing to spend it.
ReplyDeleteThe only proven winners out there are Spurrier, Paul Johnson, Petrino, and Butch Davis.
ReplyDeleteSpurrier= Too Old
Paul Johnson= First year at GT
Petrino= same as Johnson and rather flighty*
Butch Davis= Too Old
*On July 13, 2006, Petrino signed a 10-year, $25.6 million contract with Louisville to stay on as head football coach. The deal gave Petrino a raise from $1 million to $1.6 million annually, and he would have been paid $2.6 million in the final year of the deal. The contract was an effort by the university to put an end to the annual wooing of its football coach. During his tenure at Louisville, Petrino talked with Auburn, LSU, and the NFL's Oakland Raiders before finally leaving the Cardinals in January 2007 to accept an offer from the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.
Help me here people
former OU guy is Chuck Long
ReplyDeleteBrian from Troy
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Larry Blakeney, there is a reason he won't be hired by Auburn--the Eric Ramsey tapes. His comments don't represent him as a person and his character, but they have impacted his advancement past Troy.
yeah....Chuck Long.
ReplyDeleteI want to say I read that if Petrino leaves his entire contact has to be paid.
ReplyDeleteJay-Is Petrino what you are hearing or you just spreading some info for us to digest.
ReplyDeleteLarry Blakeney won't be hired because he is too old at this point and time, plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteBball team putting up a good effort in the 2nd half. Down only 6 now.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it seems like a no-brainer who AU should be targeting, and thats Chris Peterson. I'm not sure why the talk of him has died off lately though. The guy has been a head coach for three years and he has two undefeated seasons with a BCS victory! How many coaches can say that? With a guy like Butch Davis, Mike Leach, or JImbo Fisher you know what you're getting. Judging the first two guys head coaching records, they look a whole lot like Tuberville. Auburn needs to take a shot at Peterson just like Florida did with Meyer.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how Peterson feels about leaving Boise, but when you go undefeated with the chance of not making a BCS you have to question where you are. The guy is making $800k a year, if it came down to it AU could triple his salary and it would still be less than Tuberville's.
Petrino......seriously?
ReplyDeleteHas there been much talk about Todd Graham (Tulsa)?
ReplyDeleteFormer defensive coordinator, demands a high-octane offense.
Yes/No?
Well, from what I read in the paper Colonial Bank is getting a $550 million gift from Uncle Sugar, so money is no object.
ReplyDeleteJust got back to the Hangar ... are all the thumps I hear in the distance fans plunging off Haley Center, the RSA Tower in Montgomery and various buildings throughout the Southeast
ReplyDeleteSay it were Patrino that Auburn is gunning for....has he just been jonezing for the Auburn job all these years? What makes people think he wouldn't just leave AU for greener pastures in 2-3 years. I know, I know, "what makes us believe any coach won't do that", but still, Patrino's track record speaks for itself.
ReplyDeletesorry...Petrino, not Patrino.
ReplyDeleteEvery job Petrino has sought, save Arkansas, was a significantly better one than he had.
ReplyDeleteThis is America folks. Or least it was.
Larry Blakeney might of made a mistake a long time ago, but I can promise you he has no character issues. He is one of the friendliest and most caring guys that I have ever met. He goes out of his way for people he doesn't know. That one mistake is no reason to make a judgement on his character. I wish we could get someone at Auburn that is like him. But you are right, because of that mistake, he has not had the opportunity to branch out. I don't think you hear Troy people complaining though.
ReplyDeleteBrian ... I love Larry Blakeney ... think he's a fabulous coach ... but it's just not doable.
ReplyDeleteI'm not "hearing" anything officially about the next coach.
