So Rivals.com, the national organization, is reporting that Gene Chizik will be the next coach at Auburn.
Here is the link: Rivals.com
Here is the first sentence:
Iowa State's Gene Chizik will be the next Auburn coach, Rivals.com has learned.
Here is the number of sources used in Rivals.com's report: Zero.
**Bryan Matthews, who runs the Auburn-themed Rivals.com site, hasn't yet corroborated his national organization's conclusion or information.
no matter how this turns out Jay you are the man nice work bro
ReplyDelete1!
ReplyDeleteHOPE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJay, Phillip is reporting he is hired as well.
ReplyDeleteJay, so you are saying don't give up the ship, but stand near the lifeboats?
ReplyDeleteit is chizik
ReplyDeletei'll be damned
Where is Phillip reporting? I thought his was speculation.
ReplyDeleteThis is disgusting.
ReplyDeleteDisgusting.
That's all I can think of right now.
Barkley, Marshall is saying the deal isn't final, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteYou have to go to the Bodda Getta Premium forum and he has a sticky in there saying Chizik was hired.
ReplyDeleteCan't we just please get a coach!
ReplyDeleteok since the fallout has started it ain't confirmed til Jay or JJ says so..
ReplyDeletePMarsh just added it.
ReplyDeleteI'm working to confirm it.
ReplyDeleteChizik will be fine, Iowa is a wasteland. Let's just do it, and we'll go ahead and start another search in case Chizik fails!
ReplyDeleteGreat we hire a guy that has won 5 games in two years
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. I feel sick to my stomach.
ReplyDeleteWe're replacing Tuberville with someone who is 5-19 as a head coach?!?!?
ReplyDeleteSteve from Columbia, Hoopie:
ReplyDeleteYou guys were right. I was wrong. I admit it. Tubs should have been retained. Dark days loom ahead for Auburn fans......But it didn't have to happen like this.
People, stand behind whoever they choose. Chizik is likely not as bad as the impression we have from the Iowa State record.
ReplyDeleteWe knew we would be taking a significant step backwards when Tuberville resigned. There isn't a candidate that will step in and change things in a couple of years. This is a process that could take anywhere from 4 years to 25 years. Changing the image that a program has on a national scale is not easy.
We fired Tuberville for this? Unbelieveable.
ReplyDeleteI just glance at AU undercover and there is still question..CHILL!!
ReplyDeleteAnd money was no object.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that didn't really sound like I was behind the new hire did it?!?
ReplyDeleteI may be the only fan/alum that is on board for Gene Chizik. I lik ehim he knows football and belive it or not he is a good recruiter he knows how to beat Saban/Satan he knows Auburn. Is he a Muschamp I don't know but after the 13-0 season I would have taken him over TT and send TT to Texas. And most of you would have if you think back.
ReplyDeleteJay, work to confirm it's all a dream.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. I need to go throw up now.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. I know we'll never never all the in's and out's, but I just don't get after all the names we heard how we landed at Chizik.
ReplyDeleteI just don't get it.
so it's a done deal?!
ReplyDeleteIf Chizik is hired... This is the worst day of the entire season if true... and that includes all 7 losses... heck, roll all 7 losses into 1 bad day and that is what today is.
ReplyDeleteObviously Turner Gill turned us down but didn't want to say so publicly. Either that or we've just made a HUGE mistake.
ReplyDeletebarkley, don't get too down. Even if it is Chizik, he was very well thought of before he went to Iowa State. Give the guy a chance. We can only look forward. What has occurred can't be changed.
ReplyDeleteOn second thought, we've made a HUGE mistake, period.
ReplyDeleteI don't see where Marshall has announced this. He just says Chizik has become a leading candidate.
ReplyDeleteWe fired Tuberville for Chizik? Seriously? So we fired a 5-7 coach for a 5-19 coach, way to go JJ and co.
ReplyDeleteor controlled steve..good point
ReplyDeleteSteve, it's on his premium board.
ReplyDeleteChiznit!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is I'll still be in my seats next fall. Oh the heartache.
ReplyDeleteSteve, HE IS 5-19. I normally appreciate your optimism, but 5-19!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTurner Gill didn't turn us down, Jacobs just proved to the nation that he has mental issues.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Scott Van Pelt said if we fired Tuberville, he hoped we would fall flat on our face so he could laugh at us???
Start laughing Van Pelt.
I thought it was hailing outside, but it was just the sound of recruits falling off Auburn's list
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle! I've been through bad times before, let's channel our energy towards ridding ourselves of JJ (et al), so this doesn't repeat. It's not Chizik's fault for getting out of Iowa!
ReplyDeleteI can always see the silver lining but that just came to an aburpt halt if he is the coach
ReplyDeletei love it when reporters just go ahead and break the news with no credible sources or factual information.
ReplyDeletei just learned that Norman Schwarzkopf will be the next head coach at Auburn.
see i can be a rivals.com reporter too.
GILL 09
Jay G,
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your other posts, is it safe to conclude that you clearly think this is a not-so good move for Auburn?
I'm in shock.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both Mrs.
ReplyDeletetell you this much if CGC is the coach I need someone to make a Chizik 09 avatar..WAR DAMN EAGLE..
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteKristina, coaches don't win football games, players do. Chizik hasn't been a head coach that long. I don't know who bad Iowa State was prior to Chizik, so there is a lot to take into account.
ReplyDeleteI don't see a huge difference between Gill and Chizik. Yes, Gill had one good, not great, season at Buffalo. Chizik had a couple of stinkers at Iowa State. There isn't a lot of proof of either's coaching ability. Both have been highly though of on a national scale.
This is the same coach who dumped AU in the middle of recruiting season to go to Texas. The coach who was 5-19 at Iowa St. The coach we get after Jacobs said money would not be an isue in the search. I hope fans are not allowed into the press conference to announce him as it could be ugly. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI pray you're right, Steve. I really do.
ReplyDeleteIncomprehensible if true.
ReplyDeleteChizik will have a 5% chance to succeed. The first three-game losing streak will elicit the "5-19" crowd and, frankly, I wouldn't blame them.
SFC are you related to Chizik? :-)
ReplyDeleteBarkley...think Pepto-Bismo or...... Jack Daniels.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell Phred or Eddie...It'll ruin their trips.
I hope you really don't need Jay to verify this isn't a good move for Auburn for you.
ReplyDeleteLook at the division it will cause. Fans don't want Iowa State's failures.
AUTGR91, you seem to be assuming Jacobs made a mistake without any proof. You are getting way ahead of yourself.
ReplyDeleteSteveFC
ReplyDeleteI think Iowa St. had been to bowl games 4 out of 5 or 6 years before Chizik.
Steve man I wanna buy you lunch...
ReplyDeleteI just had a second person tell me "that report is premature" ... both sources are reliable.
ReplyDeleteI have not confirmed Chizik.
OK is it wrong that I really do feel like I'm about to throw up? Maybe it was something I ate...
ReplyDeleteTarHeelTiger, I am going to look into that.
ReplyDeleteI'm on my knees praying! Please Jay, tell us it's not true.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jay. Dear Lord I hope it's not true.
ReplyDeleteI've paid too much money and time and effort and heartache for this crap.
ReplyDeleteIf this is true, I'm coming after you Gouge and Jacobs.
Hey, Chizik is only No.3 on the Coaches Hot Seat board.
ReplyDeleteI am done with supporting the football program at Auburn. Make this official. This is Auburn trading places with Alabama a la Mike Shula.
ReplyDeleteI'll catch up with you guys if this site is still kicking in three years when this clown is fired.
No way, we're getting #3!
ReplyDeleteOK, Jay. That last post didn't help anything ;-)
ReplyDeleteI really think we have Bobby Lowder to thank for this.
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for him, I think we would have had Gill.
If this is true, this is deeper than JJ. This smacks of the Ol' Boyz Ego meddlin' again. "Hire the one that got away" and all of that stuff. CEOs have big egos.
ReplyDeleteConsidering our situation, Gill was easily the best way out... and a good choice anyway.
SFC, I made up my mind about JJ (after giving him the benefit of the doubt) last week. He either personally botched this or is a puppet, and either way is ineffective. I do believe some of the smoke about his relationship with WM that probably cost us hiring a real coach. I'm just saying is does no good to blame Chizik, look for the real problem and fix it!
ReplyDeleteNo, Kristina, it is NOT wrong that you really and truly feel like throwing up. Well, if so we're both wrong.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this.
ReplyDeleteI know there are big problems with the power/authority structure at Auburn, and that is contributing to this folly of a coaching search...but Chizik?
Easily the most controversial decision I've ever seen at Auburn.
ReplyDeleteI think that I will go do some retail therapy and hope that this goes away by the time I return...
ReplyDeleteJay, do you think you could change this to The Hottest Trojan Blog on The Net, and start covering Troy?
ReplyDeleteAs they say on the SNL skit, Jay, please go fix this. Just FFIIIIXXX it! It's borken and we need to FIX IT!
ReplyDeleteMy stomach hurts, I'm going to go the restroom and try to Gene Chizik.
I'm reeling y'all. Seriously. This CANNOT be true.
ReplyDeleteJay G,
ReplyDeleteWhen do you think we'll know if this is real or another lark?
I like Chizik...as a d-coordinator.
ReplyDeleteHow do you fire Tuberville and replace him with Chizik?
Iowa State went to a bowl 5 times from 2000 to 2005. The only exception was 2003. They won 2 of the 5 bowls.
ReplyDeleteOne of their bowl opponents were Alabama in the 2001 Independence Bowl. They lost 13-14.
There most impressive bowl win was over Pittsburg in 2000.
Mrs. FR -
ReplyDeleteBuy me something nice!
JayG,
ReplyDeleteJJ will find the positives. That should be a very short press conference. It will sound a lot like the press conf for CTT resigning.
Unfortunately this could get ugly. I hope Chizik has a thick skin.
ReplyDeleteI'm cold.
ReplyDeleteSo P. Marshall has it on his front page now. Who is his source?
ReplyDeleteSO, Steve. Chizik is leaving Iowa State in a worse condition than when he got there?
ReplyDeleteI AM LOSING IT PEOPLE!!!!!
Well, the defense won't fall off - he's a solid defensive coach.
ReplyDeleteOffense - who knows?
He's agreed to terms. Well we haven't!
ReplyDeleteWe know he won't be bringing his offensive or defensive coordinators. He fired them!
ReplyDeleteJay, please ask JJ at the press conference if he was ignorant enough to actually believe this would go over well with Auburn fans. Then ask him how it feels to make the worst hire in our school's history.
ReplyDeleteI seriously think we should get him checked into a mental institution.
If this is true I may have to get loaded at this party I'm supposed to be getting dressed for as I sit here waiting...
ReplyDeleteWow, this has turned into the largest simultaneous bowel movement in the state of Alabama since Dubose decided to go with that middle screen years ago near the end of the Iron Bowl.
ReplyDeleteIs Borges still on the payroll?
ReplyDeleteThis was on AL.com:
ReplyDeletePhillip Marshall, the dean of Auburn beat writers, penned an explosive column this morning on the AuburnUndercover Web site that said response to Chizik's potential hiring "has been the most negative I have witnessed in almost 40 years of being around Auburn football as a reporter."
Someone find out if Gill turned us down or if we didn't offer him the job, please.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess this will unify the fans who were split over CTT being fired. Everyone seems to agree this choice sucks. I mean, really it's Gene Chizik?
ReplyDeleteWhat high school recruit is going to choose Gene Chizik over Saban, Miles, Meyer, Richt, Kiffin? I wonder if they even know who this guy is.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll continue to battle with UAB and Troy for recruits.
barkley, how good of a hire this is will be determined by what happens at Auburn, not what happened at Iowa State.
ReplyDeletewelcome to a decade of mediocrity and irrelevance
ReplyDeleteMonica, I'm getting loaded right now. Here's a drink , girl!
ReplyDeleteIt's apparent fan approval is not important to the Auburn administration. I bet season tickets don't sell out this year.
ReplyDeletebarkley, Gil or Muschamp wouldn't impress high school recruits much more than that. Muschamp might have an edge with this HCIW status at Texas, but that is about it. We are going from one of the top coaches in the west to one of the bottom. Welcome to Barfield II.
ReplyDeleteThe plane is coming back from negotiations in Memphis at 5.
ReplyDeleteI'm just not 100% this is a done deal just yet.
Either way, I'll be at the airport.
"It's apparent fan approval is not important to the Auburn administration. I bet season tickets don't sell out this year."
ReplyDeleteNever has been, never will be.
oh my. i'm stunned. ???????
ReplyDeleteSince football season doesn't start for over 9 months, the only thing we can go by is what he's accomplished at Iowa State.
ReplyDeleteWhich is......ummmmmmmmmmm.......yeahhh........well.........nothing.
Thank you, Kristina. I wasn't thinking clearly. I don't have to wait for the party. Glass of wine being poured for me right now.
ReplyDeleteDo you think Tommy has busted a gut yet laughing over this? Do they remember how Chizik left us right before signing day? Left us in the cold, and we are bringing him out of the cold and back to Auburn? I'm laughing right with Tommy, et al. Have to laugh to keep from crying.
ReplyDeleteI was upset when Chizik left us as a DC....as a DC, not a HC
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst Anniversary I have ever had! :-(
ReplyDeleteIowa State reporter Andrew Logue says:
ReplyDeleteWord of caution: My sources at Iowa State have told me they have not heard this. And word out of Auburn is that Chizik will have a second meeting today with Tigers officials. A representative from Aubrun has told me no press conference is planned.
WHO'S IN MEMPHIS???? WHA???? HUH???
ReplyDeleteI think I will go straight to shooting tequila.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I'm convinced that Gill and Muschamp would both be great for recruiting. They both have name recognition and players like playing for them.
ReplyDeleteWe already know how much my opinion means though.
Do they know it's Christmas time at all????????????
ReplyDeleteGET TO THAT PLANE JAY G AND SHAKE SOME SENSE INTO THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh no :-( happy anniversary i guess...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mon.
ReplyDeletelmao @ Hornet - whew i needed that laugh - at least it made me breath - i haven't actually moved anything other than my fingers since i first read this
ReplyDeleteSpeechless...literally, just can't speak.
ReplyDeleteMonnie, i'll pour you that glass and keep the bottle for myself if you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I admire your positive outlook but look at the response of the majority of fans. Don't you think recruits will pick up on this vibe? And yes, I was one who thought it was time for a change at AU(still do), but this just makes me feel sick. Chizik over Turner Gill?
ReplyDeleteFrom my friends at the tidesports forum
ReplyDeleteHOW BIG IS THIS MESS?
Did we just collectively receive a lump of coal from Christmas?
ReplyDeleteI'll check back in for A-day to see who's on the sideline. Stay calm and War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back..calm down Mon. enjoy your party and Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteFaker is somewhere laughing his butt off.
ReplyDeleteI can be a Pollyanna when the sands don't shift the team's way. This ain't shifting sands....this is some stoopid decision-making. 1. Fire CTT(esp w/o a backup plan) 2. Hire Chizik?
ReplyDeleteanybody bought firegenechizik.com yet?
ReplyDeletedo we really know how well an ON-THE-FIELD coach Chizik is?
ReplyDeleteI know the PTB looked at everything he did (recruiting, communicating, hires he made, etc) but how did he coach during the last 2 years with the players he had?
It will be a down few months around here for us, since we have NO CLUE what to expect from him...
...since his results are not positive ones to look at the last 2 years...
Preach it, hoopie.
ReplyDeletehornet-
ReplyDeletei'm sure the domain is property of an ISU fan
hillarious Mr.S
ReplyDeleteI believe this is a go, but I won't have official confirmation for a little while ...
ReplyDeleteIf you guys read my post this morning I was telling wife about Chizik and she said they wouldn't hire a coach with a 5-19 record. My next comment was welcome coach Chizik. She is a jinx. If you want her cell # to cuss her out like I have just let me know. Just kidding about the cell.
ReplyDeletenow ISU will hire Turner Gill and beat us in the PapaJohns bowl next year
ReplyDeleteSTOP THAT PLANE!!!
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Jay NOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteI guess Chizik will bring his crack staff with him.
ReplyDeleteIs this guy a proven winner, not as a head coach at ISU but with enough money to get a good OC I think he will win more then TT did. He will let his OC do his job!! I am all bout it.
ReplyDeleteI consider this credible information ...
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard the old proverb “Be careful what you ask….you just might get it”?
ReplyDeleteabort, retry, fail?
ReplyDeleteabort, retry, fail?
abort, retry, fail?
abort, retry, fail?
abort, retry, fail?
abort, retry, fail?
oh f
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have a staff. HE fired them.
ReplyDeletewould nobody else take the job? seriously?
ReplyDeleteLet's start a Fire Jay Jacobs campaign. What an idiot!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe return flight from Memphis has been moved up to 4.
ReplyDeleteI gotta get going.
Behave while I'm gone.
I'm going to take a shower and wash the Chizik off of me.
ReplyDeletegill
ReplyDeleteOver/under on number of fans at the A-day game: 9.5
ReplyDeleteHoopie, you and I actually agree on this.
ReplyDeleteOnce again the Underpant Gnomes plan has its way with Auburn Athletics.
The only good thing that can come from this is we can perhaps finally unite in getting the necessary changes on the BOT.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteIt's been started. Found it this morning.
www.firejayjacobs.com
why is a plane coming from memphis?
ReplyDeletePeople, don't go all Alabama on us and start eating our own. Wait and see the results first. To attack Jacobs on this decision with out knowing the situation or the results is not fair. It is also very possible that some of the candidates decided they didn't want the job, including Gill. Auburn has proven to be detrimental to a coaches career. Ask Terry Bowden.
ReplyDeleteOh S*&%*
ReplyDeleteThere is NO plane from Memphis returning to Ames, IA.
No NO NO!!!!!!! He's on his way to Auburn.
ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
There is a poll on an Auburn Undercover asking "Do you like Chizik for HC?"
ReplyDeleteResults:
97.92% - No
2.08% - Yes
That must mean his agent is Jimmy Sexton, Monica. More great news.
ReplyDeleteExactly Steve. If we are so toxic that people are turning us down, then that's on Jacob's head don't you think?
ReplyDeleteNooooooooo, please sweet Lord, no......
ReplyDeleteF_CK Jacobs and TPTB.
ReplyDeletethis is a night to do lots of bad stuff
ReplyDeleteKristina, the reason we have become toxic has little to do with Jacobs. It has more to do with fair weather fans and an interfering BOT. The embarrassments started long before Jacobs became the AD. It began with what happened with Dye.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteC'mon Monica. Let's break some stuff! ;-)
ReplyDeleteooooo i have song for us brb
ReplyDeleteI haven't liked Chizik since he left Auburn high and dry for Texas, right before signing day. Don't want to reward him by bringing him back as head coach. But maybe he'll be motivated to bust his butt to make Auburn the best in the SEC. I hope he proves me wrong. I really hope he will be successful. I'll purchase my season tickets, but I won't be anticipating the new season. I really thought Chizik was a smokescreen. I am really just sick to my stomach right now.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I admire that you always try to see the bright side of everything. But fans like you in a situation like this are few and far between. It's hard to be pleased with a guy who was a failure at a school that has lower standards than us.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HVJg0WCBHI
ReplyDeleteMight possibly the most disappointing moment this season. I thought i'd relegated that thought to the iron bowl but the powers that be at AU have solidified this as a day of complete and total failure to me. I hope mr chizik can do what it takes but i don't see it happening.
ReplyDeletePhase One: Hire Chizek
ReplyDeletePhase Two: ????
Phase Three: Profit!
I guess you're right Steve. But someone has to be held accountable.
ReplyDeletePeople, negative attitudes breed negative results. Be patient and react to facts, not rumors.
ReplyDeleteIf Chizik is the guy, the next huge question will be who will be on his staff, and most importantly, who will the OC be.
I have long said that if we replaced Tuberville we needed to get an offensive minded coach, so Chizik is the obvious choice.
I am reminded of an old programmer saying. In C it is easy to shoot yourself in the foot. In C++ it is harder, but when you do, you take your entire leg off. We may have just taken our entire leg off.
I'm breaking dishes up in here
ReplyDeleteAll Night (Oh-oh)
I ain't go stop until I see police lights
I'm a fight a man
I'm a fight a man
I'm a fight a man
Hop a flight to Auburn, girl and we'll go fight a man...
ReplyDeleteSteveFC...This hiring could only be explained if every other coach on the list turned us down. If that happened that is not JJ's fault. That would be the PTB's fault. That would constitute a coach's boycott of AU.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are going to pick up Ashton Kutcher in Memphis and he will reveal that we all have been Punk'd.
ReplyDeleteon a positive note, at least i got to watch a Rhianna video today.
ReplyDeletethanks monnie.
I am with Steve. lets see who is the OC then go nuts.
ReplyDeleteanything for you scottie ;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a given that Chizik will be worse than anyone else on this list. This list has been pathetic. Read this quote on Chizik.
ReplyDelete"Chizik won the Frank Broyles Award, honoring the nation's top assistant coach and was named on many lists as the nation's top future coach and top defensive coordinator."
Let me preface this by say that I'm guilty of once posting a "100" post.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, after reading that terrible MState blog last week, and seeing the whole "first" comment by 10 people on every blog entry, I am of the belief that that kind of post makes our blog family seem childish and uneducated.
I told you! I told you! I told you! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I KNEW IT. WE ARE THE BIGGEST COLLECTION OF IDIOTS ON THE PLANET EARTH! I would say I can't believe it, but that would be a lie. I knew it would be this kinda brainless choice. Good grief. Pitiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible hire. Fire Chizik now.
ReplyDeleteheaven forbid anyone at auburn do anything that looks foolish...
ReplyDeletemore wine, please
who wants 3 of my seats?
ReplyDeletethis is absolutely the most disappointing news from Auburn since Shug retired.
Sp Phred I guess that feeling of apathy and dejection isn't gonna change anytime soon huh?
ReplyDeleteTwo things...
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary Zoo Keeper
This decision shocks me.
Phred, that was not the Zen like comment I was looking for
ReplyDeleteI suppose it would be in poor taste to take my hostess a bottle of already opened wine, huh?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThanks Faker. Finally something we agree on...
ReplyDeleteI just moved back to AU and will take any seats that you do not want I am all bout chizik is he saban no but I am willing to give him a shot
ReplyDeleteI have given the Tigers Unlimited at least $5000 a year for the past decade. That will stop today! I cannot stand to think my money helped bring about this debacle! They ran off Tuberville with $6 million of our hard earned dollars, to hire Chizik who in 2 years has yet to beat a winning 1A team! Tell me this is a joke! If not, I will stop giving any money to the athletics department until Jacobs is long gone.
ReplyDeleteanother one for you scottie
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGnux0_SPsM
