Here is the number of sources used in Rivals.com's report: Zero.

**Bryan Matthews, who runs the Auburn-themed Rivals.com site, hasn't yet corroborated his national organization's conclusion or information.

  1. no matter how this turns out Jay you are the man nice work bro

  2. Jay, Phillip is reporting he is hired as well.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Jay, so you are saying don't give up the ship, but stand near the lifeboats?

    ReplyDelete
  4. it is chizik

    i'll be damned

    ReplyDelete
  5. Where is Phillip reporting? I thought his was speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This is disgusting.

    Disgusting.

That's all I can think of right now.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Barkley, Marshall is saying the deal isn't final, isn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  8. You have to go to the Bodda Getta Premium forum and he has a sticky in there saying Chizik was hired.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can't we just please get a coach!

    ReplyDelete
  10. ok since the fallout has started it ain't confirmed til Jay or JJ says so..

    ReplyDelete
  11. PMarsh just added it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm working to confirm it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Chizik will be fine, Iowa is a wasteland. Let's just do it, and we'll go ahead and start another search in case Chizik fails!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Great we hire a guy that has won 5 games in two years

    ReplyDelete
  15. Unbelievable. I feel sick to my stomach.

    ReplyDelete
  16. We're replacing Tuberville with someone who is 5-19 as a head coach?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Steve from Columbia, Hoopie:

You guys were right. I was wrong. I admit it. Tubs should have been retained. Dark days loom ahead for Auburn fans......But it didn't have to happen like this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. People, stand behind whoever they choose. Chizik is likely not as bad as the impression we have from the Iowa State record.

We knew we would be taking a significant step backwards when Tuberville resigned. There isn't a candidate that will step in and change things in a couple of years. This is a process that could take anywhere from 4 years to 25 years. Changing the image that a program has on a national scale is not easy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. We fired Tuberville for this? Unbelieveable.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I just glance at AU undercover and there is still question..CHILL!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. And money was no object.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sorry, that didn't really sound like I was behind the new hire did it?!?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I may be the only fan/alum that is on board for Gene Chizik. I lik ehim he knows football and belive it or not he is a good recruiter he knows how to beat Saban/Satan he knows Auburn. Is he a Muschamp I don't know but after the 13-0 season I would have taken him over TT and send TT to Texas. And most of you would have if you think back.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jay, work to confirm it's all a dream.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Holy crap. I need to go throw up now.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't get it. I know we'll never never all the in's and out's, but I just don't get after all the names we heard how we landed at Chizik.

    I just don't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. so it's a done deal?!

    ReplyDelete
  28. If Chizik is hired... This is the worst day of the entire season if true... and that includes all 7 losses... heck, roll all 7 losses into 1 bad day and that is what today is.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Obviously Turner Gill turned us down but didn't want to say so publicly. Either that or we've just made a HUGE mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  30. barkley, don't get too down. Even if it is Chizik, he was very well thought of before he went to Iowa State. Give the guy a chance. We can only look forward. What has occurred can't be changed.

    ReplyDelete
  31. On second thought, we've made a HUGE mistake, period.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't see where Marshall has announced this. He just says Chizik has become a leading candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We fired Tuberville for Chizik? Seriously? So we fired a 5-7 coach for a 5-19 coach, way to go JJ and co.

    ReplyDelete
  34. or controlled steve..good point

    ReplyDelete
  35. Steve, it's on his premium board.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The sad thing is I'll still be in my seats next fall. Oh the heartache.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Steve, HE IS 5-19. I normally appreciate your optimism, but 5-19!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Turner Gill didn't turn us down, Jacobs just proved to the nation that he has mental issues.

Remember when Scott Van Pelt said if we fired Tuberville, he hoped we would fall flat on our face so he could laugh at us???

    Start laughing Van Pelt.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I thought it was hailing outside, but it was just the sound of recruits falling off Auburn's list

    ReplyDelete
  40. War Eagle! I've been through bad times before, let's channel our energy towards ridding ourselves of JJ (et al), so this doesn't repeat. It's not Chizik's fault for getting out of Iowa!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can always see the silver lining but that just came to an aburpt halt if he is the coach

    ReplyDelete
  42. i love it when reporters just go ahead and break the news with no credible sources or factual information.

i just learned that Norman Schwarzkopf will be the next head coach at Auburn.

see i can be a rivals.com reporter too.

    Jay G,

From reading your other posts, is it safe to conclude that you clearly think this is a not-so good move for Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  44. You and me both Mrs.

    ReplyDelete
  45. tell you this much if CGC is the coach I need someone to make a Chizik 09 avatar..WAR DAMN EAGLE..

    ReplyDelete
  46. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kristina, coaches don't win football games, players do. Chizik hasn't been a head coach that long. I don't know who bad Iowa State was prior to Chizik, so there is a lot to take into account.

I don't see a huge difference between Gill and Chizik. Yes, Gill had one good, not great, season at Buffalo. Chizik had a couple of stinkers at Iowa State. There isn't a lot of proof of either's coaching ability. Both have been highly though of on a national scale.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is the same coach who dumped AU in the middle of recruiting season to go to Texas. The coach who was 5-19 at Iowa St. The coach we get after Jacobs said money would not be an isue in the search. I hope fans are not allowed into the press conference to announce him as it could be ugly. Unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I pray you're right, Steve. I really do.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Incomprehensible if true.

Chizik will have a 5% chance to succeed. The first three-game losing streak will elicit the "5-19" crowd and, frankly, I wouldn't blame them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. SFC are you related to Chizik? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous2:24 PM

    Barkley...think Pepto-Bismo or...... Jack Daniels.

Don't tell Phred or Eddie...It'll ruin their trips.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I hope you really don't need Jay to verify this isn't a good move for Auburn for you.

Look at the division it will cause. Fans don't want Iowa State's failures.

    ReplyDelete
  54. AUTGR91, you seem to be assuming Jacobs made a mistake without any proof. You are getting way ahead of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  55. SteveFC
I think Iowa St. had been to bowl games 4 out of 5 or 6 years before Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Steve man I wanna buy you lunch...

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just had a second person tell me "that report is premature" ... both sources are reliable.

    I have not confirmed Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  58. OK is it wrong that I really do feel like I'm about to throw up? Maybe it was something I ate...

    ReplyDelete
  59. TarHeelTiger, I am going to look into that.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm on my knees praying! Please Jay, tell us it's not true.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thank you, Jay. Dear Lord I hope it's not true.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've paid too much money and time and effort and heartache for this crap.

If this is true, I'm coming after you Gouge and Jacobs.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hey, Chizik is only No.3 on the Coaches Hot Seat board.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am done with supporting the football program at Auburn. Make this official. This is Auburn trading places with Alabama a la Mike Shula.

I'll catch up with you guys if this site is still kicking in three years when this clown is fired.

    ReplyDelete
  65. No way, we're getting #3!

    ReplyDelete
  66. OK, Jay. That last post didn't help anything ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I really think we have Bobby Lowder to thank for this.

If it wasn't for him, I think we would have had Gill.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous2:28 PM

If this is true, this is deeper than JJ. This smacks of the Ol' Boyz Ego meddlin' again. "Hire the one that got away" and all of that stuff. CEOs have big egos.

Considering our situation, Gill was easily the best way out... and a good choice anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  69. SFC, I made up my mind about JJ (after giving him the benefit of the doubt) last week. He either personally botched this or is a puppet, and either way is ineffective. I do believe some of the smoke about his relationship with WM that probably cost us hiring a real coach. I'm just saying is does no good to blame Chizik, look for the real problem and fix it!

    ReplyDelete
  70. No, Kristina, it is NOT wrong that you really and truly feel like throwing up. Well, if so we're both wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I can't believe this.

I know there are big problems with the power/authority structure at Auburn, and that is contributing to this folly of a coaching search...but Chizik?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Easily the most controversial decision I've ever seen at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think that I will go do some retail therapy and hope that this goes away by the time I return...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jay, do you think you could change this to The Hottest Trojan Blog on The Net, and start covering Troy?

    ReplyDelete
  75. As they say on the SNL skit, Jay, please go fix this. Just FFIIIIXXX it! It's borken and we need to FIX IT!

My stomach hurts, I'm going to go the restroom and try to Gene Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm reeling y'all. Seriously. This CANNOT be true.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous2:31 PM

    Jay G,

When do you think we'll know if this is real or another lark?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I like Chizik...as a d-coordinator.

How do you fire Tuberville and replace him with Chizik?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Iowa State went to a bowl 5 times from 2000 to 2005. The only exception was 2003. They won 2 of the 5 bowls.

One of their bowl opponents were Alabama in the 2001 Independence Bowl. They lost 13-14.

There most impressive bowl win was over Pittsburg in 2000.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mrs. FR -
    Buy me something nice!

    ReplyDelete
  81. JayG,

JJ will find the positives. That should be a very short press conference. It will sound a lot like the press conf for CTT resigning.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Unfortunately this could get ugly. I hope Chizik has a thick skin.

    ReplyDelete
  83. So P. Marshall has it on his front page now. Who is his source?

    ReplyDelete
  84. SO, Steve. Chizik is leaving Iowa State in a worse condition than when he got there?

    I AM LOSING IT PEOPLE!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Anonymous2:34 PM

Well, the defense won't fall off - he's a solid defensive coach.

    Offense - who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  86. He's agreed to terms. Well we haven't!

    ReplyDelete
  87. We know he won't be bringing his offensive or defensive coordinators. He fired them!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Jay, please ask JJ at the press conference if he was ignorant enough to actually believe this would go over well with Auburn fans. Then ask him how it feels to make the worst hire in our school's history.

I seriously think we should get him checked into a mental institution.

    ReplyDelete
  89. If this is true I may have to get loaded at this party I'm supposed to be getting dressed for as I sit here waiting...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Wow, this has turned into the largest simultaneous bowel movement in the state of Alabama since Dubose decided to go with that middle screen years ago near the end of the Iron Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Is Borges still on the payroll?

    ReplyDelete
  92. This was on AL.com:

Phillip Marshall, the dean of Auburn beat writers, penned an explosive column this morning on the AuburnUndercover Web site that said response to Chizik's potential hiring "has been the most negative I have witnessed in almost 40 years of being around Auburn football as a reporter."

    ReplyDelete
  93. Someone find out if Gill turned us down or if we didn't offer him the job, please.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well, I guess this will unify the fans who were split over CTT being fired. Everyone seems to agree this choice sucks. I mean, really it's Gene Chizik?

    ReplyDelete
  95. What high school recruit is going to choose Gene Chizik over Saban, Miles, Meyer, Richt, Kiffin? I wonder if they even know who this guy is.

I guess we'll continue to battle with UAB and Troy for recruits.

    ReplyDelete
  96. barkley, how good of a hire this is will be determined by what happens at Auburn, not what happened at Iowa State.

    ReplyDelete
  97. welcome to a decade of mediocrity and irrelevance

    ReplyDelete
  98. Monica, I'm getting loaded right now. Here's a drink , girl!

    ReplyDelete
  99. It's apparent fan approval is not important to the Auburn administration. I bet season tickets don't sell out this year.

    ReplyDelete
  100. barkley, Gil or Muschamp wouldn't impress high school recruits much more than that. Muschamp might have an edge with this HCIW status at Texas, but that is about it. We are going from one of the top coaches in the west to one of the bottom. Welcome to Barfield II.

    ReplyDelete
  101. The plane is coming back from negotiations in Memphis at 5.

I'm just not 100% this is a done deal just yet.

Either way, I'll be at the airport.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anonymous2:39 PM

"It's apparent fan approval is not important to the Auburn administration. I bet season tickets don't sell out this year."

Never has been, never will be.

    ReplyDelete
  103. oh my. i'm stunned. ???????

    ReplyDelete
  104. Since football season doesn't start for over 9 months, the only thing we can go by is what he's accomplished at Iowa State.

    Which is......ummmmmmmmmmm.......yeahhh........well.........nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Thank you, Kristina. I wasn't thinking clearly. I don't have to wait for the party. Glass of wine being poured for me right now.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Do you think Tommy has busted a gut yet laughing over this? Do they remember how Chizik left us right before signing day? Left us in the cold, and we are bringing him out of the cold and back to Auburn? I'm laughing right with Tommy, et al. Have to laugh to keep from crying.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I was upset when Chizik left us as a DC....as a DC, not a HC

    ReplyDelete
  108. This is the worst Anniversary I have ever had! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  109. Iowa State reporter Andrew Logue says:
Word of caution: My sources at Iowa State have told me they have not heard this. And word out of Auburn is that Chizik will have a second meeting today with Tigers officials. A representative from Aubrun has told me no press conference is planned.

    ReplyDelete
  110. WHO'S IN MEMPHIS???? WHA???? HUH???

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think I will go straight to shooting tequila.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Steve, I'm convinced that Gill and Muschamp would both be great for recruiting. They both have name recognition and players like playing for them.

We already know how much my opinion means though.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Do they know it's Christmas time at all????????????

    ReplyDelete
  114. GET TO THAT PLANE JAY G AND SHAKE SOME SENSE INTO THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. oh no :-( happy anniversary i guess...

    ReplyDelete
  116. lmao @ Hornet - whew i needed that laugh - at least it made me breath - i haven't actually moved anything other than my fingers since i first read this

    ReplyDelete
  117. Speechless...literally, just can't speak.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Monnie, i'll pour you that glass and keep the bottle for myself if you don't mind.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Steve, I admire your positive outlook but look at the response of the majority of fans. Don't you think recruits will pick up on this vibe? And yes, I was one who thought it was time for a change at AU(still do), but this just makes me feel sick. Chizik over Turner Gill?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Anonymous2:44 PM

From my friends at the tidesports forum

    HOW BIG IS THIS MESS?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Did we just collectively receive a lump of coal from Christmas?

    ReplyDelete
  122. I'll check back in for A-day to see who's on the sideline. Stay calm and War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'll be back..calm down Mon. enjoy your party and Merry Christmas

    ReplyDelete
  124. Faker is somewhere laughing his butt off.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous2:45 PM

I can be a Pollyanna when the sands don't shift the team's way. This ain't shifting sands....this is some stoopid decision-making. 1. Fire CTT(esp w/o a backup plan) 2. Hire Chizik?

    ReplyDelete
  126. anybody bought firegenechizik.com yet?

    ReplyDelete
  127. do we really know how well an ON-THE-FIELD coach Chizik is?

I know the PTB looked at everything he did (recruiting, communicating, hires he made, etc) but how did he coach during the last 2 years with the players he had?

It will be a down few months around here for us, since we have NO CLUE what to expect from him...

...since his results are not positive ones to look at the last 2 years...

    ReplyDelete
  128. Preach it, hoopie.

    ReplyDelete
  129. hornet-

i'm sure the domain is property of an ISU fan

    ReplyDelete
  130. I believe this is a go, but I won't have official confirmation for a little while ...

    ReplyDelete
  131. If you guys read my post this morning I was telling wife about Chizik and she said they wouldn't hire a coach with a 5-19 record. My next comment was welcome coach Chizik. She is a jinx. If you want her cell # to cuss her out like I have just let me know. Just kidding about the cell.

    ReplyDelete
  132. now ISU will hire Turner Gill and beat us in the PapaJohns bowl next year

    ReplyDelete
  133. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Jay NOOOOOOOOOO

    ReplyDelete
  134. I guess Chizik will bring his crack staff with him.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Is this guy a proven winner, not as a head coach at ISU but with enough money to get a good OC I think he will win more then TT did. He will let his OC do his job!! I am all bout it.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I consider this credible information ...

    ReplyDelete
  137. Have you ever heard the old proverb “Be careful what you ask….you just might get it”?

    ReplyDelete
  139. He doesn't have a staff. HE fired them.

    ReplyDelete
  140. would nobody else take the job? seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Let's start a Fire Jay Jacobs campaign. What an idiot!

    I gotta get going.

    Behave while I'm gone.

    ReplyDelete

  145. Over/under on number of fans at the A-day game: 9.5

    ReplyDelete
  146. Anonymous2:51 PM

Hoopie, you and I actually agree on this.

Once again the Underpant Gnomes plan has its way with Auburn Athletics.

    ReplyDelete
  147. The only good thing that can come from this is we can perhaps finally unite in getting the necessary changes on the BOT.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Kathy,
It's been started. Found it this morning.
    www.firejayjacobs.com

    ReplyDelete
  149. why is a plane coming from memphis?

    ReplyDelete
  150. People, don't go all Alabama on us and start eating our own. Wait and see the results first. To attack Jacobs on this decision with out knowing the situation or the results is not fair. It is also very possible that some of the candidates decided they didn't want the job, including Gill. Auburn has proven to be detrimental to a coaches career. Ask Terry Bowden.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Oh S*&%*
There is NO plane from Memphis returning to Ames, IA.

No NO NO!!!!!!! He's on his way to Auburn.

    ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    ReplyDelete
  152. There is a poll on an Auburn Undercover asking "Do you like Chizik for HC?"

    Results:

    97.92% - No
    2.08% - Yes

    ReplyDelete
  153. That must mean his agent is Jimmy Sexton, Monica. More great news.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Exactly Steve. If we are so toxic that people are turning us down, then that's on Jacob's head don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  155. Nooooooooo, please sweet Lord, no......

    ReplyDelete
  156. F_CK Jacobs and TPTB.

    ReplyDelete
  157. this is a night to do lots of bad stuff

    ReplyDelete
  158. Kristina, the reason we have become toxic has little to do with Jacobs. It has more to do with fair weather fans and an interfering BOT. The embarrassments started long before Jacobs became the AD. It began with what happened with Dye.

    ReplyDelete
  159. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  160. C'mon Monica. Let's break some stuff! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  161. ooooo i have song for us brb

    ReplyDelete
  162. I haven't liked Chizik since he left Auburn high and dry for Texas, right before signing day. Don't want to reward him by bringing him back as head coach. But maybe he'll be motivated to bust his butt to make Auburn the best in the SEC. I hope he proves me wrong. I really hope he will be successful. I'll purchase my season tickets, but I won't be anticipating the new season. I really thought Chizik was a smokescreen. I am really just sick to my stomach right now.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Steve, I admire that you always try to see the bright side of everything. But fans like you in a situation like this are few and far between. It's hard to be pleased with a guy who was a failure at a school that has lower standards than us.

    ReplyDelete
  164. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HVJg0WCBHI

    ReplyDelete
  165. Might possibly the most disappointing moment this season. I thought i'd relegated that thought to the iron bowl but the powers that be at AU have solidified this as a day of complete and total failure to me. I hope mr chizik can do what it takes but i don't see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Phase One: Hire Chizek

    Phase Two: ????

    Phase Three: Profit!

    ReplyDelete
  167. I guess you're right Steve. But someone has to be held accountable.

    ReplyDelete
  168. People, negative attitudes breed negative results. Be patient and react to facts, not rumors.

If Chizik is the guy, the next huge question will be who will be on his staff, and most importantly, who will the OC be.

I have long said that if we replaced Tuberville we needed to get an offensive minded coach, so Chizik is the obvious choice.

I am reminded of an old programmer saying. In C it is easy to shoot yourself in the foot. In C++ it is harder, but when you do, you take your entire leg off. We may have just taken our entire leg off.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I'm breaking dishes up in here
    All Night (Oh-oh)
I ain't go stop until I see police lights
    I'm a fight a man
    I'm a fight a man
    I'm a fight a man

    ReplyDelete
  170. Hop a flight to Auburn, girl and we'll go fight a man...

    ReplyDelete
  171. Anonymous3:02 PM

SteveFC...This hiring could only be explained if every other coach on the list turned us down. If that happened that is not JJ's fault. That would be the PTB's fault. That would constitute a coach's boycott of AU.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Maybe they are going to pick up Ashton Kutcher in Memphis and he will reveal that we all have been Punk'd.

    ReplyDelete
  173. on a positive note, at least i got to watch a Rhianna video today.

    thanks monnie.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I am with Steve. lets see who is the OC then go nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  175. anything for you scottie ;-)

  176. I don't think it is a given that Chizik will be worse than anyone else on this list. This list has been pathetic. Read this quote on Chizik.

"Chizik won the Frank Broyles Award, honoring the nation's top assistant coach and was named on many lists as the nation's top future coach and top defensive coordinator."

  177. Let me preface this by say that I'm guilty of once posting a "100" post.

That being said, after reading that terrible MState blog last week, and seeing the whole "first" comment by 10 people on every blog entry, I am of the belief that that kind of post makes our blog family seem childish and uneducated.

  178. I told you! I told you! I told you! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I KNEW IT. WE ARE THE BIGGEST COLLECTION OF IDIOTS ON THE PLANET EARTH! I would say I can't believe it, but that would be a lie. I knew it would be this kinda brainless choice. Good grief. Pitiful.

  189. I have given the Tigers Unlimited at least $5000 a year for the past decade. That will stop today! I cannot stand to think my money helped bring about this debacle! They ran off Tuberville with $6 million of our hard earned dollars, to hire Chizik who in 2 years has yet to beat a winning 1A team! Tell me this is a joke! If not, I will stop giving any money to the athletics department until Jacobs is long gone.
