Antonio Coleman makes his decision

Defensive end Antonio Coleman, who considered a jump to the NFL, has told a press-conference crowd at Williamson High that he will stay at Auburn for the 2009 season.

Coleman, who plays on the weak side, was a first-team All-SEC selection for his work last year. He finished the year with 46 tackles including 10 for loss. Coleman was credited with six sacks.

  1. I hope that's a good omen re: Chiz.

  2. and I hope it influences Terrance Coleman

    ReplyDelete
  3. Smart man!! Terrance said that would go along way towards getting his signature.

  4. Hi JGT
Hi Mon- I'm STILL full of the crud

    ReplyDelete
  5. Has Powers gotten over this "might declare for NFL" phase yet? He must've bumped his head.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I wonder if Sen'Derrick is wondering about things. He technically has until Jan. 15 to change his mind because ... his draft stock isn't exactly high right now.

And, honestly, Marks doesn't strike me as a combine guy.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm pretty sure Powers will be back.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wow, I am surprised on this one. It really helps AU for next year, hope it does the same for AC. Count me in the hoping for Terrance Coleman also.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Marks didn't sound like he was going to change his mind, but I wish he would.

    ReplyDelete
  10. JGT, my guess is that SenD's decision is pretty firm

    ReplyDelete
  11. Academically, it might be better for Marks to make his move to the NFL now.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hey Tar - So sorry you're still feeling under the weather. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  13. OK, We need to hire the rest of the staff, Malzahn will be back in Auburn Wednesday and it's time to go get Boyd and Brown.

Dre Kirkpatrick didn't do a darn thing in that Army game.
Tana Patrick got smoked by Bryce Brown.
Most the guys who were supposed to shine weren't so shiny in the Army game.

    Just sayin

    ReplyDelete
  14. Grrreaat decision AC! I was still on muy Utah high, now more good news. Ute Ute.

    ReplyDelete
  15. BigCat, is Marks shaky as far as academics go? He has never struck me as someone who would struggle in the classroom.

    ReplyDelete
  16. High coaching salaries will make it that much harder for others to steal them.

    Good news about Coleman.

Where's the DC? Very few schools left to play if we're waiting for someone to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good News on AC!!!!
I talk to Williamson High Coach Bobby Parrish and i had the impression all along we would get Terrance.... He really never decommitted. Just looked around is all

    ReplyDelete
  18. T Coleman "recommits" to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  19. TC says he's recommitted yet taking other visits.

Sounds as open-ended as it was three weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay, now that is behind us. On to the next topic. Any more news on Troop Taylor or DC candidates?

    ReplyDelete
  21. but considers himself an auburn pledge and looking forward to playing along side his uncle...

so why is he still taking visits?

those visits must be something "special"

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was fun watching the shoving match when Moss kept pushing Fluker down when he would try to get up. Fluker talked about wanting to get heavier, but I'll bet Bama pushes his weight down. He needs to be more quick.

Boyd sure raised his stock. Tennessee let a good one get away.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would have ZERO complaints about Fluker coming to Auburn right now. His high school coach said he could go straight to the NFL and others have agreed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OK, I go to the grocery story and A.C. says he's coming back and T.C. expresses positive things towards Auburn.

    I'll be back ... I'm heading back to Winn-Dixie.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If he's good enough to go to the NFL right away, someone needs to look at that Moss kid as well. He was, as they say, giving Fluker "tha bidness" after that little shoving match. I loved it when he grabbed the back of his pads and just kept driving him into the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Monica, I didn't say he wasn't good. High school coaches gush about kids to attract attention. There is NO WAY Fluker is anywhere near NFL material yet.

    ReplyDelete
  27. AU women win, 79-56.

    ReplyDelete
  28. His high school coach isn't the only who said that, but we could use your expertise at auburn! Get over there and turn in your resume, fella!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Will - Donte Moss is from and allegedly going to North Carolina.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Karlos Dansby plays hammer to Michael Turner's nail.

    ReplyDelete
  31. C'mon, Monica, be real. An NFL lineman would dominate HS kids and Fluker didn't do that. He wasn't even MVP! NFL - not yet.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jay G.
I agree it's a game plus those visits are all paid for and free to the prospect, why not take them...

My brother was a budding star in the earlier 90's Div II All American and was in the Blue Gray Game, Senior Bowl and was invited to got to Hula Bowl and he didn't gon on the advice of his stupid Agent..... i told him it was a free trip to the Islands that he may never get to do again in his lifetime and that his Agent was only looking out for his own $....

That's why i would always tell recruits to take all 5 visits as they are free and it's good to see what others have to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Iam glad AC is sticking around, I think his stock will be even better next season...plus it is a bonus for any DC and Dline coach we get

    ReplyDelete
  34. Fluker got beat a good bit today. Lots of upside but he isn't close to the prospect Andre Smith was coming out.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't know I'd put my money on Fluker if he was playing against Detroit.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Also to bring up a topic from last night, ESPN is now saying that UM may let QB Robert Marve transfer to a SEC school, as long as its not Tenn or Fla

    ReplyDelete
  37. Favre is an over the hill team chemistry killer ... I don't want him.

    Oh, Marve.

    Well, that might be different.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did anyone else see Phillip Lutzenkirchen interview in the allstar game last night...he acted more confident with Auburn that other times I have heard him

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why don't they want him going to TN?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think LSU is also on that list of schools he cannot transfer to. At least that's what I was reading earlier today.

    ReplyDelete
  41. They think UT and Florida "tampered" with him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love to see Coach Smith get all fired up...you can tell he wishes he could put on a helmet and hit someone

    ReplyDelete
  43. He was was a Bama guy before he backed out to stay closer to home, I think he may try his luck with them or in Athens

    ReplyDelete
  44. From ESPN
Former Miami quarterback Robert Marve may transfer to a Southeastern Conference school with the Hurricanes' blessing after all.

That is, any SEC school except Tennessee, Florida or LSU.
Miami lifted some of the sanctions regarding Marve's transfer late Friday, four days after the Hurricanes' starting quarterback this past season said he was leaving for a new school.

Marve is still prohibited from transferring to schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference and within the state of Florida. But those three SEC schools remain off-limits, Miami officials said, because of the belief that discussions about Marve transferring to one of those institutions has been going on for some time.

Sorry its so long, I cannot hyperlink from my Blackberry

    ReplyDelete
  45. thanks for the info, Emmett

    ReplyDelete
  46. Marve almost went to Alabama, so there is probably a chance he'd go there.

    ReplyDelete
  47. yes thanks Emmett!

    Great Infomation

  48. Auburn-Tulane Game about to start at what 5pm?

    ReplyDelete
  49. RK:

    He was committed to Shula...

    He decommitted after Saban arrived.

He won't be at Bama, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nice tackle by Rod Hood of the Cardinals

    ReplyDelete
  51. Chizik's best recruit so far is Coleman. I would like to see Coleman play some linebacker this year. This will be a position he will need to learn since he will play there in the NFL. The last big Senior move for Will Herring played out pretty well.

    ReplyDelete
  53. i think marks needs to stay--unless he's decided that he's not into getting a degree. marve is an intriguing proposition. the arizona cardinal game was almost blacked out in phoenix because it didn't sell out very quickly. they have underperformed for decades now.

    ReplyDelete
  54. AUnMobilz, you seem to know a lot of info from the Mobile area. Have you heard any recent news on Ryan Williams? Nobody seems to be saying anything one way or the other on his status. Thanks.

  55. I hate myself for loving you
I can't break free from the things that you do

    ReplyDelete
  56. Monica's rockin' the tunes today.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Why is Miami being so weird about Marve?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I might be mistaken but didn't Coach Chiz turn Reggie Torbor from just DL to a DE/LB his Sr year for the Pro's...plus he was the one that took Karlos Dansby from DB to a LB/DE hybrid

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why would he quit taking visits, mon? Girls and money are handed out at some of those things.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Maybe they think he'll be a real player, so they want him to be like a bird and fly fah, fah away.

  69. Zteve ... don't care ... he's staying ... that's what matters.

If Mrs. Jet wants to hold a press conference to announce she's staying another year ... I'm calling the media for her.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree, Jay G. Its to the point that they are being vindictive to the young lad over past disagreements. Make me look down on their administration a little, not that they care what I think.

  72. I never thought Matt Ryan would be the QB he has become....I am a Saints guy....but I am happy the Falcons are doing so well...I like the Blank Family as Owners and this year is all a big up yours to Mike Vick, DeAngelo Hall and Bobby P.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jet, Wifey reports that she's down to 35 mph on the interstate north of Montgumpery because of precip.

She's a speeder, too, so that's really saying something.

    ReplyDelete
  74. True. Ryan is the best rookie ever imho. Go Dirty Birds!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Emmett ... I'm a Chargers guy since the days of Lance Alworth ... but you gotta like this Falcons team ... Smith has a done a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jay G/Peter - I have read on ACC post that most of the coaching staff did not even back him in his appeal over his missed classes, which it turns out he was only late for...then when his Dad came out about his illness they give him a little transfer room, but not much

    ReplyDelete
  77. It looks dreadful out there ... worse where you wifey is. Red on the radar was headed toward East Vaughngumpery, then jumped west toward Prattvegas, Millyork, and parts north.

  79. I don't blame Marks if he goes to the NFL as long as he goes in the first couple of rounds. If not, it can turn into a disaster. There have been players go pro and remain undrafted. Marks is an overachiever, so the NFL may wonder about him.

I think I will schedule a conference at my high school to announce I am not going to turn pro.

    ReplyDelete
  80. If I'm L.T., I'm thinking Darrin Sproles out to be playing tonight.

Torn tendon in groin. Not good.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I don't understand what the deal is over there. He apparently has an attitude problem, and I think the class thing was to teach him a lesson, but they still liked him enough to start him most of their games. The U is a bizarre place.

  96. I'll take Eric Dickerson as the best NFL rookie ever. Over 2200 total yards and 20 TD's.

Or Dan Marino who led the Dolphins to the Superbowl as a rookie.

Either way the class of 83 was amazing when you consider John Elway, Jim Kelly, Bruce Matthews, Darrell Green, Henry Ellard & Roger Craig all came from that draft.

    ReplyDelete
  97. WarEagleRK-
But this Draft had Chris Johnson, who was the best rookie and maybe the best RB ever....just ask him....Just dont let him know about Joe Flacco's year...or that Matt Forte had better numbers with even less threat of a passing attack behind him....But I guess Forte had plenty of experience with that when he was Tulanes Offense last year

  99. Wow - just read AC's comments about his conv w/ Coach Chizik.

"I talked to coach Chizik again a couple of days ago and I believed every word out of his mouth. I want to be one of the guys that turns it back around at Auburn.

Let's do this in living room's as well Fo Chizzel.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Good News on AC. I sure wish someone would talk to Sen'derrik. Phil Savage (Former GM of the Browns) says he should absolutely return for his senior year. I would think he knows even though he did get canned.
