Tulane @ Auburn (men)

We're live blogging the Tulane at Auburn men's game ... live from aging Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

FINAL
Auburn wins, 78-53.

1:45 remaining
Jake Drum is in.

FOURTH TO (of the second half) @ 3:40
Auburn leads, 71-52. The Tigers must be shooting 60% or better this half. They look like a very good basketball team right now.

THIRD TO (of the second half) @ 6:14
Auburn leads, 65-51. Reed has been outstanding this half. He has scored 15 points. The Tigers are better than Tulane today -- that's the basic jist of what I'm seeing. Auburn gets more rebounds, makes better passes inside and is playing better defense.

SECOND TO (of the second half) @ 11:41
Auburn leads, 54-43. It was getting close there for a bit. Tulane had it down to five points. A pair of baskets from Speed Reed (a three and a layup) helped Auburn regain its composure.

FIRST TO (of the second half) @ 15:35
Auburn leads, 48-41. Tulane is playing better overall because McQueen, an Auburn High grad, is showing a lot of guile around the basket. He has scored seven points so far this half.

HALFTIME STATS
Shooting: AU -- 11-29 (37.9%); TU -- 10-28 (35.7%)
3 Shooting: AU -- 3-10 (30%); TU -- 2-12 (16.7%)
Rebounding: AU -- 24 (9o, 15d); TU -- 20 (7o, 13d)

HALFTIME
Auburn leads, 40-27. The Tigers play very well during the final 15 minutes of the period. Stats upcoming.

FOURTH MEDIA TO @ 3:41
Auburn leads, 30-24. Big change in Auburn's favor. Not shooting all that well, but they're rebounding aggressively on the offensive end. That's leading to second-chance shots and free throws. Tulane still is having problems with the Tigers' defense.

THIRD MEDIA TO @ 7:38
Tulane leads, 22-20. Game was tied at 17 and 20. It's even. Auburn has missed four of its last six free throws.

SECOND MEDIA TO @ 11:09
Tulane leads, 17-12. Auburn has calmed. They actually cut the lead to one point, then let it get away again. Not sensing much offensive rhythm. The Tigers are being very aggressive with their man-to-man right now. Tulane is having a lot of trouble passing the ball.

FIRST MEDIA TO @ 15:39
Tulane leads, 12-4. DeWayne Reed was subbed out pretty quickly for Frankie Sullivan. He has scored three points already.

AUBURN CALLS TO @ 17:49
Tulane leads, 10-0. Not going well for the home team. They're sloppy and Tulane isn't.

TRIVIA NOTE: Mark Murphy of ITAT, my seatmate today, reports that he once saw the Rolling Stones play a double show here in the mid-1960s. Chuck Berry was the opening act. BEMC used to be a really nice arena.

YOUR AUBURN STARTERS
F/C -- Korvotney Barber, native Georgian
F -- Lucas Hargrove, he of South Carolina pedigree
PG -- DeWayne Reed, known to some as "Speed"
G/F -- Tay Waller, Georgian by birth
SG -- Tez Robertson of Cincinnati

    TD cardinals

  5. Sonny says we need scoring from D-Reed. I say we need more minutes on the bench from D-Reed.

  6. AUnMobilz, I know I'm a thread late, but appreciate you checking on R Williams. I always felt he had a lot of potential, and that is a thin position for AU.

    ReplyDelete
  7. no problems i will check my sources

  8. This was on Football Scoop: Also, despite reports on the internet, FootballScoop has confirmed that South Carolina defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson is not a candidate as Auburn’s defensive coordinator.

  9. WarEagleRK-
But this Draft had Chris Johnson, who was the best rookie and maybe the best RB ever....just ask him....Just dont let him know about Joe Flacco's year...or that Matt Forte had better numbers with even less threat of a passing attack behind him....But I guess Forte had plenty of experience with that when he was Tulanes Offense last year

    ReplyDelete
  10. I Reallllly did not what Ellis Johnson....But I guess if he did come he would only be here for a few months before he took a job with another school

    ReplyDelete
  11. I kinda like the idea of one gray beard on the staff ... that was the upside of Elliz.

    ReplyDelete
  12. TN boards are going crazy. They think Garner is a done deal there.

    ReplyDelete
  13. i want a bluebearded pirate on our staff.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I give Tulane credit, they give good effort against stonger teams...in all sports. My Wife is a Tulane grad and they hold the players to the same strict standards all students must uphold

    ReplyDelete
  15. i think that au really needs a win tonight against tulane. where in france, chris?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The ACC boards are saying that Miami is bringing in Noel Mazzone to replace Nix

    ReplyDelete
  17. I had to get an eyeglass lens replaced yesterday ... and this is the wrong prescription.

So I'm all out of sorts, can't see very well out of my left eye. Sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Auburn missing free throws? When did this start? And why wasn't I notified?

    ReplyDelete
  19. dude, that is the worst. i'm very prescription dependent--recently made the switch to bifocals. good luck with that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. progressive lenses for 2 years ... finally used to them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i fear the progressive lenses--heck, i can't even get used to these!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would like a grey beard too, but as a pos. coach. I would much rather have a DC that will start a fire under someone.
A guy that is almost there, just needs Chiz to take him under his wing and show the little things.
Sort of like Tommy and Mack Brown did with Chiz and Muschamp.
That is one reason I wish we could get Trooper Taylor...did you see how he was durring the bowl game...I thought he was going to make them start running hit drills right there on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  23. doesn't appear to be much of a crowd there. If I were there, i'd go just fo the diversion.

  24. I found this on a UT site. Who knows if it is legit.

Caution, hard to believe, and as most of you, my
Vol friends know, I do post and tell what I've been told unless instructed otherwise, but I received a call from a local Memphis high school coach on his way to my house to watch the different games, eat, etc. Duron Sutton has a player at Okla. State,Jamal Mosby. Jamal told his coach that Trooper told him(Jamal) that he,Trooper, was definitely leaving Okla. State for either Auburn or UT. Caution, please, this is just too good to be true but that's what I was told. If you remember, Trooper, before he left UT, told his players first, before it leaked out;Trooper is close to his players. On another note, Cortez Kennedy called from Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay last night; we did not bring up the Ed Orgeron thing but Cortez said he'd call Monday from Orlando so if he shares any other info on how we got Ed, I'll post, unless he instructs me not to, as he's done in the past.

  27. Coach Lebo looks less Tan tonight, might be time to change the bulbs in the Tanning Bed

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dowhat?

    That's an AWESOME re-post. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  29. DoWhat...

That post was made by Roy Adams (aka Tennstud) on the Volchat messageboard.

He probably knows what he is talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mazzone to replace Nix? Is Miami TRYING to suck?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I had eye surgery in 1991.

Went to 20/20 in my left eye to better than 20/20 in my right.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I had RK on my eyes the day Terry Bowden resigned. It was a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jet, Tennessee fans seem to think they may be getting Garner AND Trooper. Have you heard any news on this? IF they get those two guys to go along with the Big O, look out.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think I could do eye surgery. If something goes even a little wrong, you ... don't have a way to fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I just confirmed Tulsa is staying in the hotel next to my office down here in Mobile. I think I will sneak over this week during work and show Gus some War Eagle love.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jay,

I was very wary of it too

Of course I was younger then and bulletproof.

I probably wouldn't do it today for the reasons you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Depressed ... no word on my end.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mazzone is a very good coach and probably shouldn't have gotten canned by Auburn. I think that was one of Tuberville's early mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jet. No comment.

    ReplyDelete
  40. To me Trooper seems like a younger version of Garner....Well known as a recruiter and a pos. coach....but neither has taken gotten that big step to OC. I know trooper was Co-OC at OKST, but it was all being called by a 41yr old man.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm excited about Trooper!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Mazzone was very open than he wanted the Miss St. job...but otherwise I had not heard anything til today about him.
Auburn did the right thing to get rid of him and get Bobby P...but he was not the worst OC we ever had

    ReplyDelete
  43. Emmett, on that note Jack Crowe comes to mind

    ReplyDelete
  44. and that's why you don't put money on a rookie qb on the road, in the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was born the year Crowe took over our O, but wasn't the Ark coach that lost to Citadel

    ReplyDelete
  46. Monica, so I assume that you think Trooper is a done deal for AU? I hope that is the case.

    ReplyDelete
  47. bigcat ... gotta be more careful about what you say here. We're family-oriented.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Al.Com just posted that they are still only talking to Troop and Lup

    AL.com Auburn Beat

    ReplyDelete
  49. but they say he is in the running to be the OC in Miami

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm just being positive, Depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Emmett, I had that some information up this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Technically, it was just after noon.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 10-4 JG. Sorry! Just happy to see the loud mouth get what he deserves and Love watching Bama lose. I'll be more careful.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jay,

This is going to be 7 wins in a row, granted over less than NCAA Tourny caliber talent. Is this basketball team capable of win the west?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gotcha, Monica. I may try that myself one day.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jay- We all know you are light years beyond all other news outlets...I just see and share

    ReplyDelete
  57. Who is announcing the Basketball Game for CSS??

    ReplyDelete
  58. FD&S: I don't think so. I see 8-8 as best-case scenario ... will that be enough to win the West?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Coach Sonny is announcing this.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I thought for sure we'd see a coach named today...

Jay G., someone on the Rivals board mentioned that Joe Whitt Jr. was at the bball game tonight... is he just there with his dad watching the game or is he there interviewing for a job on Chizik's staff?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks, I thought it sounded like Coach Smith, I just was not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I didn't see Joe Whitt Jr. ... or Sr.

    ReplyDelete
  63. depressed - are you really still depressed?

    ReplyDelete
  64. One other thing from the front page...

I would have loved to see Chuck Berry...even at BEMC...

    ReplyDelete
  65. FSJ, I saw Chuck Berry at MC, and he was the lead act for the Rolling Stones. GREAT NIGHT! My friend was president of the SGA and I had two on the second row. Woooo Hooo

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mark was at the show too! Berry was the lead act because Tina Turner got sick and the Ike and Tina Turner Review couldn't play. CB was a last minute fill-in.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I would have paid cash money to see that show.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Cheuck Berry and the f****ing Rolling Stones?

    Dude, I'm jealous!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Unbelieveable night. I later saw Ike and Tina Turner live in Denver. The show she did in Denver would have changed Auburn forever. Woman was down and dirty!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mark Murphy was saying BEMC was the shizzle back then ... one of the best arenas in the Southeast.

That's hard to comprehend given the dump BEMC is today.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jay G., that is hard to comprehend. I thought Beard Eaves was a dump my freshman year in 1984.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My Dad was a student when the Stones played BEMC, he said the whole show was out of this world...by the time I was in Auburn they could not get an act like that to come...I think the only time the UPC Concert filled the seats was for Akon and Soulja Boy

    ReplyDelete
  73. I carried the wife to see Tina Turner eight/nine years ago in Atlanta. Lionel Richie was her opening act. She puts on a heckuva show...I've never been a big fan of hers, but Mrs. FSJ loves her.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jay G ...

Look on the plaque that denotes the construction of BEMC, and you'll see the name of a relative of mine.

His quote ... "I'd always hoped to have my name on a building, but this place is a dump."

    Always has been, always will.

    ReplyDelete
  75. McBain - Does that mean you saw the homecoming performance of Chicago?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Monica, Yes it does.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Saw The Eagles in 1980 ... "Long Run" tour.

Amazing Rhythm Aces were the opening act, and chased off the stage to boos after three songs.

Mrs. Jet, complaining about my continual HABOTN visits, said she saw Matt Geiger in his underwear.

    ReplyDelete
  78. That was my freshman year too. That was an awful show. Did the B52's play there too or am I confusing that with a show at Troy?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Monica, That may have been the Troy show. I do not recall them opening for Chicago at BEMC. I agree, I was disappointed. I am a Chicago fan and it was not a very good show.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Did any of you watch the Falcons/Cardinals game earlier today?

What's up with Karlos Dansby introducing himself as being from Woodlawn Highschool, and not AU?

Roderick Hood introduced himself as from AU.

What's up with Dansby and AU? disappointing.

Apparently didn't affect Marcus McNeil in the Chargers/Colts game, either. He stuck with AU.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Memorial Coliseum wasn't great back then either, but we had an agressive SGA and the finances put together could woo some major acts. The Stones wanted a southern venue for their US tour and Auburn beat out Atlanta - two guaranteed sold out shows. Their equipment bus broke down and the second show didn't start until after midnight and ended after 2:00AM.

Everyone who was there that night treasures the memories.

    ReplyDelete
  82. A lot of the players give a tip of the hat to their high schools, even some junior highs. Marcus Washington usually says Auburn High School.

I don't view it as a big deal ... it's a part of their lives. i would give my HS some love, too, if I were them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I have clothes to wash....Good Night All....and War Eagle

    ReplyDelete
  84. This is a rumor. Has anyone else heard a rumor that Damien Craig may be leaving USA for Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Monica ...

I heard it a lot when Boom was the presumptive choice ... I'd love it ... I think he'd be battery acid on UAT recruiting in Mobile. But that would mean no Trooper.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Monica, sorry for the late reply, been watching the Colts-Chargers. I wouldn't say I'm depressed, but I am definitely getting anxious over the UT Garner-Trooper talk. There seems to be a high-dollar bidding war going on in the conference for coaching talent and UT is spreadin' the wealth. I had my heart set on Garner, gave up on him, got excited about Trooper, now I feel he may be slipping away. Any new ideas for anxiety meds? And, jet, I have purchased the smelling salts just in case. You'll know what I am talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If I'm Trooper ... I'm wondering what my role on a Kiffin offense will be ... I'll be so far down the rock star list on the staff (Lane, Dad, Coach O, Layla) ... that I've got to look closely at Auburn where Gus is a rock star, somewhat, but I've got a chance to shine.

    How's that for optimism?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Depressed - I say go with an herbal remedy like Kava Kava. Ativan has those pesky addictive properties.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Like sands through the hour glass, so are days of our lives...

    ReplyDelete
  90. jet, good argument, but I wonder about Troopers previous stint at UT. Do you see that as a plus for AU, minus for AU or makes no difference? And would they really go after Trooper and Garner? I've gotta believe RG is unhappy with something at UGA, or is trying to force their hand somehow. Or I could be totally wrong. Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  91. No matter who gets Garner and Taylor they will have leg up on most teams when it comes to recruiting. I hope we get at least one, both would be great but one would work. As far as position coaching we need Taylor more than Garner.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Don't know if it's a plus or a minus ... Rodney may be thinking that UGA has peaked ... gonna lose it's best two offensive players ... time to move on and find another upwardly mobile program.

As for Trooper ... he's got to know that Oklahoma State is a nice place, but it's not permanent. It's clearly a question of what he wants next ... he's in the proverbial catbird seat.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Been in Auburn all day moving out my graduate and moving in my freshman.....it goes so fast
Wish I could have had time to take in the game
JayG...thanks for noticing my avatar....I though someone should be supporting women's basketball

    ReplyDelete
  94. Herbal remedy? Interesting thought. I've always been a pharmacutical guy, but it is a new year. Maybe it's time for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Monica ... remember AU is known for pharmacy!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Monica - I had not heard the Dameyune Craig rumor...but I am all for spreading it...Maybe he and Trooper can both come...He is WR Coach at USA, but he has never coached WR's that I know of...He was QB coach for 2 years at Tuskegee and assistant special teams coach for the Dolphins Satans first year as Coach...I also think he was under Satan at LSU in a Grad role or something like that

    ReplyDelete
  97. Emmett ... you are correct.

Not sure there's room on the staff for Trooper and Dameyune. I'd love it if there were a way to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Depressed...I just saw your post to me on the last thread. Was driving from GA back home...sorry.

I'm a doc student in the same department that Marks is in. Everyone loves him as a person but it is obvious that he doesnt have the same passion for school as he does football. I think he is just ready to be done with this part of his life for now. I hope he changes his mind though, he was suppose to do a practicum in my office (at the real job) sometime this year.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oh my. I'm sorry for spelling Dameyune's name incorrectly.

Depressed - If you're already taking meds, you should speak to your prescribing doc before taking Kava or any other herbal.

However, I have seen good results with Kava Kava for anxiety and Valerian root for sleep problems as long as herb is a good quality and taken in the proper dose.*

    ReplyDelete
  100. MOnica ... I need that disclaimer for all my posts.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thanks BigCat, Marks has always been one of my favorite players on and off the field. Intelligence had never seemed to be an issue from interviews and the few times I have spoken to him. Maybe he is just ready to move on. I think he can make it big-time.

    ReplyDelete
  102. South Alabama is having trouble keeping a staff, and its gonna be a while before they even have a team on the field...Craig would get alot more press and I would think more $$$ at AU.
I think the only QB he had at Tusk. was Huff...but the kid threw for a little under 3,000 yards and had like 800 yards rushing...It would have been the Fresh/Soph years for Atkinson...and he is a heck of a qb too

    ReplyDelete
  103. I may be spelling it wrong, I just recall it being spelled diff than you would think

    ReplyDelete
  104. Is the Knoxville news reporting Trooper Taylor is a done deal to Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  105. I wish, mOnica.

It's not on their sports front of the web site.

    ReplyDelete
  106. One of you Scouts subscribers hook us up with that Trooper story on OSU's site.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Does LT play in Big Games or is it in his contract not to?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Torn tendon in groin ... played in first qtr.

Sproles is good enough to win with.

    ReplyDelete
  109. LT has been on the bike all night....Lance Armstrong watch out

    ReplyDelete
  110. Keadings gonna miss...

    ReplyDelete
  111. A FG???

Why didn't they throw it in the endzone?

    Where's the madden of old?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Damn - they already keep him out of EVERY preseason game.

I say treat him like the Rocket - come in about 6 games in.

No season stats are worth ANYTHING in the NFL without a Super Bowl.

    None.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Chris ... I agree ... I'd hold him back a lot more.

    I'm a Charger fan ... it's frustrating to me.

    ReplyDelete
  114. OT game ----- INDY wins.

Anyone want to wager a days worth of "blogging" "posting" or "replying" ---- SD don't have it in them.

    Peyton does.

SD lost the game right there. 1st and 10 from the INDY 38???

    The INDY 38?

  115. "The opportunity to reconnect with my mentor in coach Chizik and have the chance coach at a program known as 'Running Back U' was something that I could not pass up," - Curtis Luper

Thats the kind of attitude I like...I think I'm gonna like Luper

    ReplyDelete
  116. Sproles fumbled into end zone.

    Rivers INT in end zone.

Colts' TD while defense subs out.

that's where the game will have been lost.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Does anyone know why Garner wants out of UGA so bad? I just heard that he was the one that approached Kiffin for the UT job.

    ReplyDelete
  118. My guess is that he thinks UGA's upward mobility is about to slow considerably.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Why did Peyton keep his helmet on, was he worried the coin would hit him.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The way the Knox paper talks Garner is looking to get out of Athens...maybe he just wants to one day say he had the honor of coaching with the Great Ed Orgeron

    ReplyDelete
  121. YAW YAW FOOTBAW YAY RODNAY YAW BUY PLAYAHS YAW YAW

    ReplyDelete
  122. Heck the Saints were happy to get rid of Ole Coach O...

    Nola-Coach O Out

    ReplyDelete
  123. I like having Coach O in the league just because he is so unstable....He is like the local redneck guy that thinks he can jump anything on his dirtbike...you don't watch him because of the 5 times he makes it...you watch for the 5 times he does not

    ReplyDelete
  124. 3 first down came on penalties?

The defensive holding on the DL was a bitch call.

All in all - I lose - see you guys Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hang in there, Chris.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Did Phillip Rivers just gesture to the Indy sideline?

I like beer but not BUSCH.

BUSH league bulls**t Philliup - act like you THOUGHT you were going to win.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I like that scene...Rivers,Hester and Sproles all together...I bet LT feels useless right now

    ReplyDelete
  128. I thought SD really didn't try to win when they started on the Indy 38.

I thought that would huirt them.

    Apperantly not.

Anyway - I did win about 430 on SD & the under - I'll live.

    ReplyDelete
  129. That was an outstanding NFL game. I'm a college fan first, but these tight playoff games are tough to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Calm down Chris....think back to Lamaze class

    ReplyDelete
  131. NFL Network - - - Is there ANY crew worse than Dejon Sanders and Steve Mariucci?

In the imortal wordds of Charlie Brown -- UHG

    ReplyDelete
  132. Chris ... don't hate on our former tight end, Philip Rivers.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Reading posts by Chris make me want some Kava Kava. Neat.

    ReplyDelete
  134. he he he -- I can actually use the gay ass "LOL" thing on that one Jet.

    Playoffs are awsome.

Did LT say "gameover" after the coin toss? And then trott over to the sideline?

    DUDE.

    ReplyDelete
  135. WOW - what a call in OT on the holding on the DB...whew.

Good thing they called that one.

Again, I won money on this game but still...

    ReplyDelete
  136. Chris ...

that's how my son refers to him ...every time he says Rivers ... he says "Former Auburn Tight End Philip Rivers ..."

    ReplyDelete
  137. Ya know Gates signed to play baskball and football for Michigan State...But Nick Saben said he could only play MLB and would not be allowed to play Basketball, Then Saben would only sign transfer papers to a D2 school when he wanted to leave...so played a year at Eastern Michigan and then transfered to Kent St.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Does he say Former Auburn WR Pat White?

    ReplyDelete
  139. New AT&T cable thingy has a channel called "palladia" and it has Red hot Chilli Peppers live in Milan on right now .... in HD.

Damn, what have I been missing?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Emmett ...

    actually, yes, he does.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I had no idea Emmitt -- So the great $aban doesn't know EVERYTHING about football?

I also heard that when he took the LSU job he sent a plane back to E. Lansing to pick up any coach who wanted to join him in Red Stick.....and

  143. Tennstud reports that UT is not pursuing Trooper. Maybe Miami vs AU.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I somehow missed that Andre Smith had declared for the NFL draft tonight. Sorry if posted already, I missed it.

  145. Hammy... he also says Florida is in the mix now...

IMO, Auburn needs to land Trooper. He's a very good WR coach and an excellent recruiter! And that is 2 things we need.

  149. For anyone looking in the morning. The Knoxnews website had an article stating that R Garner had told Chris Low from ESPN that he hoped to make a decision on joining Tennessee by sometime Sunday afternoon. The article also stated that his salary in 2008 was 250,000 dollars. I'll go out on a limb here and say wherever he ends up, he will be making considerably more next year. Sorry I am not a linker.

  150. UT is not intrested in CTT(thank god). Miami wants to talk to him but they need a playcaller(recruiting not an issue in Miami...ever). I think our shot at CTT is very good. I think we will see a DC announced before any other defensive coaches are offered, so we still may have a shot at CRG. CRG may be slightly better at recruiting but CTT is a better position coach at a position(WR)that we need a good coach. If we lose out on CRG we could still get Rocker or Pelton and get a solid recruiter and position coach.

WRs have been the underlying offensive problem for the past 3 seasons. We need coaching and recruiting to fix the problem. Coaching can make it better year one. Recruiting will take 2-3 years to improve further. Tubs went to the spread to attract a higher quality WR.

  153. Looks like they have gone to pick up Coach Luper. Hope he brings the Troop.

  154. I thought after a long winter's nap (18 hrs) that I'd wake up and find a bunch of new AU coaches.

  157. Kathy,

Rumors flying because the jet came in from Mobile last night(bringing back Malzahn),and comming in from Stillwater today(bringing in Taylor to interview). I think if this is true we need to seal this deal today! Dont let him leave without signing. If nessisary give him an offer he cant refuse!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Guru - Bringing Malzahn back to where from where?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Malzahn has been in Mobile for the GMAC bowl. Rumor is they picked him up last night and brought him back to Auburn. So this morning he and Chizik could sit down and talk with Taylor. Pure speculation of course based on plane flights. Someone needs to go to the airport to find out if true or not.

    ReplyDelete
  160. So,can we all agree that the right thing to do is root for the Dolphins and the RonnieCat offense?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Zhoopie, recruiting hasn't been the problem with receivers. We have as much talent at receiver as anyone. As a matter of fact, we probably have the number one suck receiving corps in the nation. It is astounding the level of talent we have been able to not use.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Zteve,

I never understood why Knox was allowed to keep his job after he could not develop Ben Obamanu(?). It has gotten worse since. I thought I heard Franklin say Knox complained about a lack of talent once!! He was the Recruiting Coordinator he is the one who picked the talent

    ReplyDelete
  163. Hey Guru. Sounds like that could be the case. Someone stated they were at the airport, and Luper and Trooper were on the plane.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Yeah Trooper and Luper are in AU and do not need to leave without signing something. Can anyone say package deal?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Receiving core is slow...TIm Hawthorne is SLOW, Montez Billings is SLOW, Cant coach speed.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Oh yeah Chris Slaughter is not fleet of foot either

    ReplyDelete
  167. From Scoop.com:

Auburn: We hear Gene Chizik is targeting a former head coach and current defensive coordinator for the Auburn defensive coordinator job.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Sorry, http://www.footballscoop.com/?cat=24

    ReplyDelete
  169. so list all the former head coaches and current defensive coordinators

    ReplyDelete
  170. Bryan Matthews on Rivals said Curtis and Trooper are in Auburn talking to Chizik. He didn't mention that Malzahn was on the plane.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Where is everybody???

    ReplyDelete
  172. Hawthorne, Slaughter, Zachary run a 4.5 40, which isn't slow. Billings is a 4.4 guy, very fast. They all have decent size. The problem isn't speed. You haven't got to be a speed burner to play receiver. We will have some faster smaller receivers coming in, but none of them are as talented.

    ReplyDelete
  173. That corresponds with a rumor up here in MN that Ted Roof is interested in the Auburn DC gig. He's a good coach, but I think he is on par with a Ellis Johnson, and a tad below Reggie Herring and Rodney Garner. But his HC experience my help Chizik out, if you can call being HC at Duke real HC experience.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Malzahn has a team to coach in Mobile...

    ReplyDelete
  175. In terms of coaching, Ellis is probably much better than Garner. In terms of recruiting, I would put Garner up against anyone. I can't say much about Troop. I don't know enough.

  178. Here is the link to E Woodberry's site. It shows Chiz, Luper and Taylor talking

  179. Per Wikipedia:

"Roof was hired at Duke on December 6, 2003. He was fired from Duke on November 26, 2007, after compiling a 6-45 record and not having beaten an ACC opponent in three years. While at Duke, his teams allowed an average of over 32 points per game"

    I'm thinking I hope it's not him.

  180. Per Guruwill earlier today: "Rumor is they picked him (Malzahn) up last night and brought him back to Auburn. So this morning he and Chizik could sit down and talk with Taylor. Pure speculation of course based on plane flights." If you track the plane, it was in Mobile last night. Not sure if Malzahn would come to Auburn today when he has a game to coach Tuesday night. I would imagine they would practice today, but it was late flight last night.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Flying from Mobile to Auburn wouldn't be a big deal. It would be a short flight.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I will bet you one million dollars the Montez Billings does not run a 4.4 or Hawthorne/slaughter 4.5's. Even though our quarterbacks were terrible this year, half the time they didn’t throw the ball because there was no separation. Those fast wideouts couldn’t get separation from mediocre competition. Zteve, if these guys are so talented, I suspect they will be in the league after they leave AU.
