OK, now for something a little different

Hey everyone. Nearly 700 posts on the Sugar Bowl is pretty big time.

We'll actually have some AUBURN items to discuss today. Isn't that swell.

Auburn women, who are undefeated, play Stephen F. Austin beginning at 2 p.m.

The men's team will play the Green Wave of Tulane beginning at 5 p.m.

I will be attending both contests. Will I live blog the women's game? Not sure yet. Is there interest? Nobody is being accused of sexism here or anything ... just saying that I don't hear much about the women's team from you all. And that's fine.

ALSO OF NOTE: Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy, who is 41, said Friday that Auburn has requested permission to speak with OSU assistant Trooper Taylor. The Tigers hired one of Gundy's assistants, Curtis Luper, on Friday. Taylor is a co-coordinator for OSU's offense and a former Tennessee assistant.

  6. Malzahn's salary isn't known just yet. I mean, he knows. I don't. That may take a little time ...

  7. But last night was A LOT of FUN!!!

  8. Jay ...

You created the monster ... it is no longer your own.

    It ... is ... alive.

  9. Oh, I know you all had fun and you should. I wasn't bemoaning that at all.

Back during the football season, some members of the community liked to take advantage of my desire to see comments stay below 200 per thread ...

  10. It's not a community, it's a family.

  11. You cannot stop the HABOTN, you can only hope to contain it.

  12. The Facebook crowd is more like family to me ...

  13. Gilligan, didn't you make the comment that Taylor's a coordinator and were scratching your head as to what AU could offer him?

Me to. What's the word on what the Chizzonator's pitching the Troop?

  14. I would love seeing a blog. I live in Texas but my cousin is Alli Smalley. An update or two would be awesome. Either way I love your blog and visit it at least twice a day. Thanks for doing a great job with your stories and posts.

  15. Patrick, I think it's WEG who rolls with an Alli Smalley avatar. We've got some fans around ...

  16. I would expect to hear something on a DC this weekend.

Pitch $$$ @ Troop. Make him the WR coach/Recruiting Coordinator. If we aren't getting RodneyG, then TT will recruit nationally

It seems that we are certainly going after recruiting specialists.

  18. Wow Kathy, that first picture on that link of yours is awesome.

  19. I thought I read somewhere that Musc made 295 with us...I thought that to be grossly out of line. Could be wrong.

  20. Kat - that's from a website on soonerfans.con called "fark central" where there's some AMAZING photoshop work.

The longest thread on the entire site is called "Let's start it up Iron Bowl style" and its like 1000 pages long.

I'm a member just to see some of the stuff.

  21. ZteveFC -- I understand the specifics of Tubbs records but I have to say that I had never been more disappointed as I was in 2002, 2003 and 2004. 02 and 03 set us up for incompletion in 2004. We really weren't robbed (imho) we set ourselves up in 03 for it. We had talent in 03 and 04 to compete for NC both years yet we eaked out 9-7 victories holding our breath when we could have been blowing teams out...making a statement.

I like Tubbs and believe in his character but had never seen NC kind of focus, commitment and drive. It starts at the top, in business and in sports the team takes on the attitude and speed of the leader.

    Now that's a nickels worth, I'll hush.

  22. Muschamp was offered over 400k to stay when he left.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Steve - check out the link I put up.

Fark Central is the funniest site on the web.

You may have to log in to see it however - sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not me - my most disappointed moment was when UGag came to town and all AU had to do was win and they make a second BCS bowl appearence in 3 years.

The Dawgs were sub-500 and a frosh QB and beat the tee-tee potty out of AU.

Oh and maybe when Arky came to town and AU was ranked #2 with a shot to move to #1.........Tubby Ball.

  25. I wanted to take a second to brag about my youngest. That little girl in my pic (old pic) is now a very smart young 17 year old that has been accepted to AU. Damn they grow up way too fast! She wants to be an Auburn engineer and she can't wait to get started.

I'm so proud I could bust!

Heading out to Tunica...thanks for the great blog and last night rocked for sure. Laughed so hard for real.

  26. Big Mike ...

My son, Turbo Prop, will be there next fall to ... in the engineering school as a freshman ... where did it go?

    ReplyDelete
  27. HUGE CONGRATS BigM -- I have about 12-13 more years but mine wants to play Golf at AU.

    WAR EAGLE!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh yeah...anyone want to help out with the $42k out of state?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Congrats Big Mike! You should be proud. You can have my penny jar.

  30. West Coaches
    Miles
    Saban
    Petrino
    Chizik
    Nutt
    Mullen

West has stepped it up a notch.

  31. Chain gang guy crushed in Buffalo-UConn game.

Ankle rolled up ... he's hurting bad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats Big Mike. Maybe you'll get a little help in Tunica for that out-of-state tuition!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Isn't Trooper the co-offensive coordinator and WR coach at OK State?

If that's the case, then wouldn't we have to give him more than WR's? I'm guessing to pull him over he would have to be a co-coordinator with Malzan. This guy will one day be a HC.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, take all of her college fund to tunica and play it on roulette.

Oh and there's exactly the reason my 5 yr old has been going to the driving range with me for 2 years.

A buddy has daughters and he was looking for them to get a softball scholly but a recruiter told him that there's more female golf schollys right now than there are female golfers.

    And Lane can crush it!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Co-AHC for Trooper is what I'm hearing ... I think he wants out of Okie State.

So, everybody wear their hat backwards today in honor of Trooper in hopes that he'll join us soon.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chris ... I know you've heard me make reference to my daughter getting a golf scholarship. I'll be pushing for golf or soccer.

    What you say is true!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wholelly crap Jet - I've had mine on like that for an hour or so.

There's something in getting great coaches on staff that you have to realize and that's they will be HC's if they're sucessful.

I guess Trooper wants back in a bigtime league and a bigtime program.

I was a bit suprised at CCL's statements kinda dissing OK St.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I never pushed AU on her, actually thought for years she would be a "cough, choke* Bulldawg as so many of her friends will be. But once the word Engineering came our of her mouth, well there was no doubt.

It's all good. She's already picked up an AU scholly (smart like her mom) and there's lots of money out there for girls in engineering. I've been blessed more than I deserve.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No womenz on the golf course!

    Just kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Staff stability is good ... until it is bad.

If I were a head coach, hopefully the staff would be F5'd (refreshed) every few years because people wanted to hire them away.

    ReplyDelete
  41. G - my kid DOMINATES at soccer and she played a year ahead of her age group.

So much so, the little boy's dads were saying stuff like "Come on, do't let that girl do that...."

I mean, it was hilarious. I may not have boys to pass along my stuff but my first born can crush a golf ball and a softball.

I played a bit in college but I'm probably going to try and keep her from softball if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's right Jet - and no one can blame Chiz or Muschy for leaving to take HC jobs.

There's probably a reason CTT's staff was there forever. Coach Gran got a whiff or two but that's about it.

I'm stoked about these two guys!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great point Jet...gotta keep developing and promoting. How many HCs out there with former Miami ties?

    ReplyDelete
  44. OK...lol...out for real.

    I'm ALL IN!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Delle Donne would recommend letting your kid play a sport she's passionate about.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Monica ...

But how I can live vicariously through the accomplishments of my children if I make their activities about them?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Why oh why does Bryce Brown want to go from Kansas City to Miami? Auburn is so much closer to home!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Urban Myer gets another good one. Xavier Nixon.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mon,
Urban also get s Bostic! Damn!

    ReplyDelete
  50. He's raking up.

Are you watching this game, Mobile?

    ReplyDelete
  51. West Coaches-2009

    Miles
    Saban
    Petrino
    Chizik
    Nutt
    Mullen

I'm not sure that Mullen is a step up from Croom. Time will tell I guess. He's never been a HC to my knowledge.

And I'm certainly not sure that Chizik is in the same league as Tuberville at this point. He's new blood and all, but Tuberville is probably the 2nd best Auburn coach of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. yes i am Mon.
and Bryce Brown just scored a TD!
    Talk about irony!

    ReplyDelete
  53. The above post is supposed to be a reply to tigerfan..

    ReplyDelete
  54. Don't know who Delle Donne is but that's a pretty obvious statement.

We're going to try 'em all. Tennis is next on the list.

I had that game on but my lord - is it the NBC commentators or just that its a friggin HS football "all-star" game that keeps me from being able to watch that.

Maybe it that I had it on for 5 minutes and heard "His high school coach said he's the best high school players he's ever seen and he's seen some good one in 30 years."

Or "He said he's ready for the NFL right now."

    ReplyDelete
  55. My list.

    1. Dye -- took us from outhouse to penthouse -- 4 SEC titles
    2. Shug -- 25 years of consistency and a NC
    3. Tuberville -- highs and lows ... but benefited from the relevance created by Dye

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jay -

Can you confirm that we are paying an RB coach $400k?!

After luring Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn earlier this week to run the Auburn offense, Chizik enticed the 42-year-old Luper to leave OSU. According to a source, Luper will be paid $400,000 annually at Auburn. His OSU salary was $228,000.

If true, I'm definitely in the wrong profession!

  57. Gotta go grocery shopping with Mrs. Jet ... you kids have fun.

    Go Chargers.
(L.T. has a detached tendon in his groin ... and I think we know how painful that would be)

    ReplyDelete
  58. me too - I gotta let the kid play with our Christmas stuff outside.

    laters.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jet:

I would rank em like this...

    1) Dye
    2) Tuberville
    3) Shug

You could really argue 2 & 3 to the end of time, but Tuberville's record against top ten teams and against Alabama give him the edge, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  60. great we lost Jon Bostic

    ReplyDelete
  61. Might be a silly Q, but is anyone watching the UT/ Rutg Women's game on right now?

UT only scored 13 pts in the 1st half and was down by 20. They just pulled within 4 w/ 4 mins left in the 2nd. Exciting game if you like b-ball.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well Jhag consider this. When these recruiting experts were talking about what it takes to be a top recruiter they used the words like "relentless". Have we had "relentless" on our staff?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Coleman makes his decision in mere minutes. Can you feel the tension?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Still no word from A. Coleman down in Mobile? What time was he set to announce? Jay G, do you have one of your many interns down there in Mobile for the announcement?

    ReplyDelete
  65. QB Tajh Boyd, Hampton, VA have a great game. He's a free agent. He didn't want to go to WVU after RichRod left and TN decided they didn't want him after Kiffin was hired. He's a great QB without a home.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Auburn women lead 40-25 at the half.

Alli Smalley leads the team with 10 points ... 4-of-6 from the field.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dont think we every really had a shot with Bostic. I really hate that. Clemson is another school that changed coaches and is still cleaning up with great recruits.

On UA Recruits: Nico Johnson is a beast but Saban should take AJ McCarron's scholly immediately. He is way out of his league.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for the swift response Jay. You answered my Q b4 I asked.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I gave the HABOTN interns some time off to heal from the Sugar Bowl. They're all Alabama graduates since AU gutted its journalism department a few years back ...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Malzahn needs to be on a plane to Boyd's house ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  71. You mean two days from now right AUBigCat? Maybe a phone call or a text message until the dead pd is over!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Big Cat - Totally agree on AJ McCarron. However, FLUKER is a MONSTER.

Bryce Brown needs to come to Auburn.

    Tajh Boyd come to US!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Both of their phones should be ringing RIGHT NOW.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have a friend who teaches Fluker at FHS. Said he is very soft spoken, almost shy. Hard to imagine being that big and being shy.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous3:04 PM

Paying Luper $400k. We would have to pay Trooper even more.

Seems the strategy is that, since we don't pay big $$$ for a Blueblood HC, we will pay big $$$ for big name assistants/recruiters. I think I'm OK with that.

Successful folks like that normally have a strong egos...Chiz will have a job managing that.

    ReplyDelete
  76. he's coming back

    ReplyDelete
  77. Evan Woodb says Coleman will be back.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Coleman is indeed back. New thread up.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Will yea as soon as possible. We should be waiting outside of his house at the stroke of midnight on the last day of the dead period.

Monica I'm really jealous of the Fluker commit, but if Bryce and Tajh become Tigers I will get over it lol
