Oku now an option?

Good afternoon.

Our friends at AuburnSports.com are reporting that TB David Oku from suburban Oklahoma City is planning to visit Auburn next weekend. Though he remains somewhat committed to Tennessee, Oku has made trips to Louisville and Nebraska. He's visiting Syracuse this weekend. Auburn comes next.

Could the Tigers actually land Oku? Impossible to know. Auburn is getting in very late on these kids. Sometimes that actually assists the Tigers' effort -- they're the "new" program with the new staff and the revised expectations.

Jonathan Atchison and Deangelo Benton were surprise additions to Auburn's weekend. Three star linebacker Atchison, from Atlanta Douglass High School, is currently a soft verbal commitment to Alabama. He also has Auburn listed as low interest.
Five star Hargrave wide receiver Deangelo Benton will also be attending. He is currently committed to LSU. Benton had been scheduled to visit Auburn last weekend.

I'll believe it when I see it. Palm has announced the release of a linux based OS about a hundred times since 1997. How many have come out? Exactly zero to my knowledge. You know what would cause me to get stoked about the pre? If they announced it'll be Android based, 'cause I don't trust the good people at Palm to deliver a linux product. I'm a Palm OS junkie, but it could be so, so much better if they would've converted it to Linux 10 years ago.

I never have understood the hatred for Vista. I have no problems with mine. I've had no viruses, and have not had a major problem with it shutting down or crashing or anything like that. I've found it to be much more reliable than any XP computer I had. I use 4 or 5 computers with Vista and don't have any problems with any of them.

I admit, I'm not a gamer and I don't use my computer for any super spiffy purposes. Just Office, internet and music mostly, but I don't have any problems.

I do like Mac's just fine, but can't justify the difference in price. My Ex gf's computer had Linux and I used it alot. After getting used to it it wasn't so bad. But for someone who isn't a programmer, Windows and Mac are much better imo.

Credit goes to PM..

Willis got his severance check of more than $50,000 and, shortly thereafter, agreed to remain on Chizik’s staff. At least one other support person who was retained in similar circumstances chose to take his in 2009 and, as a result, never got it.

University policy is that, if an employee is overpaid, he or she is required to repay the money as soon as possible. Because Willis never left the payroll, it is the university’s stance that he was overpaid and thus should repay the money. Willis was given the option of paying the money back all at once or over time.

9:47 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

New AU AD? Pinocchio---guess who pulls the strings?

AU folks blame Willis as a traitor. All he did was run from the insanity of the PTB.

Why does AU always have sooooo many bizarre and unexplanable occurances? What is the "constant" during all of this since Dye?

Never underestimate the ability of CEOs to impart undetectable spin. It is a job requirement. Arthur Blank gave Petrino an ultimatum the morning prior to the Falcons MNF debacle. "Commit to the Falcons NOW or we will start a negative disinformation campaign against you." Petrino had no choice but to agree. After the game, he told Sexton to make the deal with Arkansas.

I agree that a healthy Chris Todd could be our best option. Rumor is that he threw harder than Kodi in practice, I think he wore himself out by game time trying to compete for the job. Ya'll know he had surgery on his throwing arm after the season right?

10:16 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

One of the keys to recruiting is defining, for lack of a better words, a career path for a recruit. Being able to say, hey, with your abilities we think you could start here as a junior if such and such graduates...

That is why Brandon Jacobs of the Giants was so dumb to come to Auburn. Tuberville explained we didn't have the room and who he would be competing against. He could have likely been a starter for one season, but that is about it.

I heard Todd had surgery, but I don't necessarily believe it will mean his arm is back. I am not concerned about who has the strongest arm, but rather who is the best decision maker. I was impressed with Todd's decision making, but it became blatantly obvious at times that he couldn't put the necessary zip on the ball at times.

I had assumed the plan this last season was to let Todd start early, but get Burns experience as quickly as possible. It didn't turn out that way, they overplayed Todd. His arm turned to jello, and Burns wasn't ready to go.

10:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That reminds me of a phenomenon me and my roommate call the "Trey Smith Effect," where you realize you wish you had a player back that you previously laughed at. We first noticed it when we needed Trey Smith like special teams contributions, then when our QB situation got so bad we lamented the departure of Brandon Cox.

10:20 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Chris Todd looked very good in terms of decision making. Don't judge him too harshly. People made the same mistake with Jason Campbell and wanted Brandon Cox as the starter.

The thing with quarterbacks is that I will take a smart quarterback over a rocket arm or fast runner any day. Give me Randy Campbell and I win a lot of games.

If Chris Todd came back with the cannon for an arm we all heard about I'd be ecstatic. If Chris Todd comes back next year anywhere CLOSE to his 08 form. I will cry in my beer each and every saturday.

Your right, his decisions looked good in the first few games, and got worse as he had less and less confidence in his throws. He had the arm strength of a high school qb with no chance at going to any D1 school.

10:26 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Brandon Cox was a good quarterback without many good receivers. We lost a lot when we lost him. He had the brains and the arm to make the Franklin Experience work.

One of the funny things last season was everyone hollering for Kodi to be the starter, but it was blatantly obvious he wasn't ready. Yes, he could come in and make some impressive runs. Yes, he could hit his first option receiver. But it was obvious he was not yet comfortable in the pocket, although he showed flashes in a few games.

The fact is that the QB position wasn't the cause of our offensive troubles early in the season. Penalties and fumbles had a lot to do with it.

QBs are unique. They can have 9 great plays, but if they follow it with 1 bad play, it can cost you the game. Consistency at QB is the key.

10:26 PM
Blogger Will said...

Blake, in my circle we would call that the Brandon Cox Effect. When the AU fans were booing BCOX, I tried to tell my buddies that one day we would be wishing that we had this guy back...of course they laughed.

BCOX will always be one of my fav AU players, you'll never hear an ill word spoken about him from me.

10:27 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

By the way, I am not particularly sold on Todd. I am just saying he looked like the best decision maker early. I wonder if someone like Caudle or Trotter could come in and do better. I haven't seen enough of them to know.

10:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

No, BCOX was good... compared to what we have now. Sry I gotta go to a college party, I'll defend my position later.

10:30 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I don't pine for Cox at night. He was a servicable QB, he was inconsistent (I think largely due to his illness) and wasn't particularly gifted imo. He did tend to make smart decisions. I could tolerate him at QB this season, but I'm not crying that he isn't on the roster.

Cambell and Craig are two QB's I'd love to have back.

10:31 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

By his senior season Brandon Cox was getting the crap beat out of him and always got up and fought back. He is one of the toughest QBs we have had.

He did make some mistakes, but a lot of it had to do with us not having playmakers at RB or WR. At times we put Cox in the position where he had to try to do it on his own. He attempted to thread passes in because nobody was open.

People forget that our offense lead the SEC in 2005 with Cox as the starter. Take away the receivers and even a good QB has troubles.

If I am not mistaken Cox still holds the record for the being the most accurate QB in Alabama high school football history. The guy has skills, but he was placed in a bad situation.

LuvAU1968, someone like that doesn't need to get a high end computer. Pretty much any computer these days will work well. If speed is a problem, add memory. I would go with a PC and Windows rather than a Mac because of price and availability of software. Don't get told you need one of the top of the line processors. It isn't worth it unless you are doing some intensive work. If you want gaming and graphics, then the story changes. If you are doing image/video processing, I would consider a Mac. If you have geek in you, Linux is the way to go.

This was at Baylor, where you see very few players go pro. I think nearly every athlete no matter how big of a recruit he is thinks he has what it takes.

By the way, from what playing time he got, Blake Field looked like he could have been a starter.

I think Caudle didn't get a fair shake because of several factors. I think Tuberville wanted a Vince Young type QB and got Burns. I think Franklin liked Todd's understanding of his offense.

With the right coach, Caudle might have a chance.

I expect any recruit we get to have the ability to play significant snaps at some point, although that is obviously not the case. There are always some seniors that are graduating that I have never even heard of.

Wakerider....my honest opinion is that Caudle is fragile. I really predicted big things for the guy, but I don't think it's in the cards. I just think he lacks something (if I knew what that something was, I would prob make $400k per yr coaching FB).

I would LOVE to see either Burns, Caudle, or Trotter make a move this Spring and start playing some inspired ball, but I don't think Caudle has it. I hope I am wrong.

Then in my mind, Gulley probably never will be if something doesn't change. If he doesn't believe hes the best player on the field, he will always struggle from my experience. You don't have to be cocky, but you have to have confidence.

Currently I think Burns may be the guy left out. If he doesn't display a much better grasp of the offense, he will likely end up transferring of playing a different position.

I just saw the Tennessee women's backetball team in Coldstone's down on the Plains. They can put down some ice cream, that's for sure.

They are pretty tall. Not KeKe tall mind you, but tall enough. This is going to be such a huge game. Excited to get in for free!

Wake, I agree wth your earlier post about most kids thinking they will be in the NFL one day. I think that is one reason AU has had so much success in recent yrs. Guys like Dont. Thomas, Sen. Marks, K. Dansby, B. Grubbs, etc... get here and realize that thye will have to work hard to be NFL prospects. I think you build a program with these hard working blue collar guys and when you get a chance go out and get a few blue chip, 5 star players when you can.

Steve, I sure hope Burns can get it together. I still think he has it in him to be a very good QB, but hes going to have to take some solid steps this offseason, because the 08 Kodi isn't going to cut it at all.

Kodi probably has the best athletic ability of any quarterback we have had. I think we made a mistake playing him in 2007. Mental state is crucial to a QB and when you bring in a new QB you want to bring him in when he can be successful and develop confidence.

I'm excited about Burns with Malzahn's coaching. He got very little attention from Borges and Franklin, both of whom gave him few reps. If anyone can turn his talent into production Malzahn can.

I did a lot of work in Arkansas last year, where Burns is a legend from his high school days. The pig fans up there can't believe we've screwed him up like we have. BTW they also admit to being nervous about us with Malzahn on staff.

What could help Kodi the most is if we have some receivers we can count on. Also, Kodi has had his moments where he looked good, against Ole Miss comes to mind. At other times, he looked uncomfortable in the pocket.

I do think we screwed up Kodi. We did the same to Jason Campbell early in his career. Hopefully Malzahn will make the difference.

Presently Kodi reminds me of that South Carolina QB that can run, I can't remember the name. He looked great at times, but then would make some bonehead decisions and Spurrier would bench him.

Good night all. Mark Murphy doesn't expect our signing class to be very good. He hangs around the Athletic Department a lot and usually is right on. Expected, but disappointing news.

I don't remember Blake having a mullet. I do remember him having a very attractive girlfriend who went to AU. He was in town a couple years ago on their off week to watch AU play and he and his g/f hung out at our tailgate... Nice guy actually.

Okay, I am waaaay too late for anybody to read this but I have to go on record: Why does everyone think Burns is a good coach away from being the next big thing?? I don't want to criticize a college kid too harshly, but the guy hasn't shown any promise since he got here. He can't learn a playbook, his arm is erratic at best, and he isn't nearly as athletic as ppl seem to think he is. I mean, I don't even know about his decision making, cuz his passes are so far off it is impossible to tell where he intended to throw the ball. Someone, please, tell me what makes you think he is somehow a potentially good QB...

Is Malzahn and staff going to be able to properly coach Kodi? What do we know about these guys and QB projects?

Tanneyhill is the one that Gene Stallings told to cut his hair if he expected to play for Alabama..

Apparently Tanneyhill liked his hair.

Good Morning Everyone,
Was up in the Atlanta, waiting on my bammer wife to come home from getting her haircut and decided hey i will check on Auburn. Like i never do that. But anyways I am excited to Jonathon Atchison coming on a visit. Number 1....I was this guy play here in atlanta he was all over hte place. He is a freak. I would much rather have him than Fat Petey. Number 2...I am so tired of hearing about the "Willis Saga"...lets move on. Let Roof Coach the LB's and go get Shayne Beamer from USC. This would be an upgrade. Well off to go look at new cars yall have a great saturday.
