Recruiting updates

SUNDAY MORNING
Post No. 998

OK. Here we go.

  • (@9:22 a.m.)
CB Izauea Lanier (right) of Gordo High, an Auburn commitment, said matter-of-factly that QB Tyrik Rollison committed this weekend. Saying that and meaning that are two different things sometimes. Not sure what to make of that.

  • (@10:30 a.m.)
WR DeAngelo Benton has left the building. He didn't want to talk, which is OK with me.

  • (@10:15 a.m.)
LB Jonathan Atchison of suburban Atlanta, an Alabama commitment, has left the building. His uncle, John Williams, spoke for him. Williams said Atchison's appearance at Auburn this weekend signifies significant interest. He also said James Willis' jump to Alabama doesn't affect anything.

  • (@9:11 a.m.)
DT Jamar Travis from W.S. Neal High in Brewton has received an offer from Auburn. He seemed elated to have received that, but said he remains committed to Southern Miss right now. Travis said he intends to make a final decision tomorrow. Auburn and Southern Miss are the only candidates.

  • LB Joel Kight, WR Travante Stallworth and ATH Robert Cooper left from an alternate location. That means I wasn't able to get them today. It happens.

  • A couple of administrative things. LBs DeDe Lattimore and Greg King didn't make the trip this weekend as previously reported. So they're not here. They may reschedule; they way not.

  • Rollison arrived on Saturday (he had a basketball game on Friday night) and won't leave until Monday. Prospects have 48 hours to tour each college. He won't be visible today.

  6. We're nearing the 1,000th blog post in HABOTN history.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Good job JGT! With so many cancellations and the 2 suprise visitors, I cant keep up with who was actually here. Definately grill Atchison if you get the chance. Tell him no hard feelings and we want him back. lol

Oh the drama!! Good morning all!

  10. Mornin' all.

Jay GT - once again you prove to be the single most indispensiab, er.. important source of AU recruiting info. Hope you get a chance to speak to DeAngelo B and Robert C. THANKS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jay - What's Tyrik's size vs what's listed?

And can he get in to school?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fox and CNN have started wall-to-wall coverage in anticipation of 1,000.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I haven't seen Tyrik Rollison and won't today. He's out of sight ... so to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK. I take that back. I just saw Rollison strolling by. He stopped to talk with Lanier.

I'd say Rollison is two inches taller than Lanier. Pretty thin guy. Built like Kodi Burns.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Great work, Jay. Thank you. You take reporting to the next level. Even though I'm a member of a pay site, this is my first stop for recruiting news.

Have fun at the game today.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I will be glad when the style of hat the kids wear today goes out of style. Man that big flat bill on a hat looks similar to what grand pa used to wear. We always called them duck-bill caps. Oh well to each his own.

    Good work JGT.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jay you saying Kodi is thin?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jay I check out all the sights on Sunday morning before church and someone always post a link to your blog.

    good work.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jay GT- I just camp out at your site. I learnt stalkin from you!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hello to HABOTN! New flat bill hat... it will be out of style when you see it on a punter on a stick!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hunter Stout = great football name

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm confused.

This is from CNN Truth & Rumors:
Brian Butler, mentor for Miami oral commitment Bryce Brown (the nation's top high school running back) said Butler won't sign anywhere until at least March; he also is considering Tennessee, Kansas State, Auburn and Southern California; and he wants to learn about UM's new offensive coordinator. Butler said his website will charge $9.99 monthly for Brown updates. Signing day is Feb. 4.

Does this raise questions for anyone else?

  23. I can't quote the rules, but someone is definitely crossing the line!

  25. Monica - that's way too scary.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Was Lanier wearing a bama hat?

    ReplyDelete
  27. And I wonder whose idea it was for Bryce to post the web address to that site in his Facebook status.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jay G.
as always you get the good stuff beforeanyone else.... "You da Man"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Explain "Academic Enhancement".

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lanier was wearing a black Alabama hat, yes. I was surprised. He explained that the hat represented "the state of Alabama."

Lanier is from Carrollton, which is the epicenter of Alabama love.

Still, the kid is 100% Auburn.

Courtney Taylor, another Carrollton grad, is Lanier's hero.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Looks like someone stole my business model.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i can't imagine there are too many people that would pay $10 bucks for that. what would the updates be like? "hasn't yet committed." "hasn't yet committed, but likes the saffron duck in in LA." "hasn't yet committed."

    ReplyDelete
  33. New idea: Street Agent on a Stick!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Do we have a kicker on a stick logo yet?
    Someone has fallen behind...

    Jay G,
How do you pronounce Iz... Lanier's first name?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can support that, Jet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. or "mentor" on a stick

    sheesh

    ReplyDelete
  37. By the way, folks...
It appears that the wife has decided her time is best spent studying and will not accompany me to the game this afternoon. So, I have an extra ticket if anybody needs one.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Miller,
    Its Isaiah...

Well looks like another good weekend. I have a great feeling about signing day.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks for the excellent coverage Jay. If Rollison actually committed, that would certainly be big news.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lanier is "Isaiah" ...

    ReplyDelete
  41. As Isaiah said, Here am I. Send me (to fight the Infidels).

    ReplyDelete
  42. Interesting spelling... I can't spell it, but, I like it...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I bet we end up getting Jamar Travis. I think Jared Cooper helps.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Geraldo is setting up outside of Beard-Eaves, waiting for 1,000

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wasn't Brandon Moore the last one to leave last week? If so, I'm not thinking happy thoughts right now re: DeAngelo.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would love for us to get Jamar Travis. He reminds me of Tommy Jackson (not sure if comparison is accurate or not since I've never actually met either). I really like TJ.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can we have a party at war eagle supper club for the 1,000th blog post?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Benton left out the back door. No report on him today. That is Benton's decision.

    ReplyDelete
  49. JGT - Thanks again!!! I hope you can grab some lunch before heading into the cavernous bowels of BEMC.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Supposedly there will be a "real" student section for the Tennessee game, I'm kind of excited to see how that turns out.

A classy bammer gets number one today. Is there no Jay GT equivalent for Alabama??

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous11:41 AM

Atchison is considering AU after his visit.....Really likes it in Auburn - wouldn't that be delicious?!

Tana cancelled trip to So Cal

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hoo RAY for Tana!

All that Hollywood glitz can be tempting. I'm glad he was smart enough not to go. I hope he's smart enough to choose Auburn! That would be SO cool.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous11:59 AM

I wonder what the differences are between the Chiz and xCTT when speaking to the recruits. Some have spoken to both, right?

JGT - Has anyone mentioned anything about style or motivating capabilities?

Just curious. It is nice to see big names have "major" interest.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous12:04 PM

I believe that would be an atlanta braves hat.

    ReplyDelete
  55. If you're talking about Lanier, Jay G. already confirmed that it was black bamer head gear.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do you think the team will "link up" when they come out of the tunnel for the first Auburn game next season?

    I certainly hope so!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous12:17 PM

    I hope not. That's yesterday's news

    ReplyDelete
  58. He was an Auburn commitment coming into this visit, so his choice of hats seems a little inappropriate.

Let's look back in the archives and see if Willis wore a bama hat on his official visit.

    ReplyDelete
  59. So will Rollison qualify or will he be a sign and place?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous12:20 PM

Sign and place more than likely.

    ReplyDelete
  61. ACT is a bit low...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Couple things. The longer Benton goes without commenting the better. Auburn made a huge move with tis kid this weekend. Lanier has a younger brother that is a super star. He is only in the 8th grade.

Rollison will be on campus till tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Carney ... I posted the information about Rollison three hours ago.

    ReplyDelete
  64. So? So you were wrong. You're welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You can see the Alabama hat in the picture I posted in the "recruit-by-recruit" thread.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous12:44 PM

I stand corrected. I apologize Mrs. Monica. :)
