Roof hired as Auburn's DC

1/6/09, EARLY AFTERNOON
**Reconfigured at 4 p.m.

Hey everyone. More news breaking at this hour. Minnesota has confirmed that defensive coordinator Ted Roof has been hired by Auburn coach Gene Chizik.

``Our defense improved a great deal under Coach Roof this past season," Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. ``Good coaches are always going to be in demand and I wish Ted the best of luck in the future."

Roof was highly unsuccessful as a head coach at Duke from 2002-07 -- the Blue Devils won six games during that stretch -- and the Gophers' defense hasn't been that great. They finished in the bottom half of the Big Ten in rushing defense, passing defense, points allowed.

Still, their numbers were even worse in 2007.

Western Carolina, 1997 (defensive coordinator)

Duke, 2002 (defensive coordinator)
Duke, 2003-2007 (HEAD COACH)

  1. I like Jay's sly way of getting around the Montgomery Advertiser's rule of reporting unconfirmed stories. Just add a question mark to the title!

    ReplyDelete
  2. who is this guy and after all the big names on O why this guy for DC

    ReplyDelete
  3. maybe this guy because he is willing to be second fiddle to chiz (i.e. no ego)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Jay,
Do you know how well Minnesota played defense prior to Roof?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Wow, with the little bio Jay just wrote about Ted, this hire seems to be really ... rather ... poor? unimpressive? scary?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I remember having a conversation with Tuberville about Ted Roof in 2007. I asked Tuberville if that guy ever would work in football again considering how bad Duke was.

Tuberville had a high opinion of the guy and said something about how some people are just better as coordinators. I don't think he Tuberville was saying Roof necessarily was That Guy, but that's a point I've carried with me since then.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Dear Leader-
that would be plenty good enough reazon for me

    ReplyDelete
  8. AUWade, I don't see a lot of Minnesota football ...

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Roof...The Roof...The Roof is on fire. We don't need no water, let the @$$@#%^$@$ Burn.

    ReplyDelete
  10. fair enough Jay. If Tuberville thought highly of him, that's probably a good sign (for defense anyway).

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wait a tic, Roof is from Lawrenceville, I live in Lawrenceville!! His name is Ted, my initials are TED. Coincidence? I think not! By the way Wiki already has him listed as DC at Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  12. Apparently Minnesota's defense was ranked dead last in Div 1 Football the year before Roof arrived. That defense has improved to 78th overall. He had a good run with Ga Tech late 90s and was a finalist one year for the Broyles award.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Does anyone know why he left his position as DC for Georgia Tech for the same position at Duke? Was he fired?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe Ted can bring down Omnica's crush (Tim Brewster) down as a graduate assistant.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He was head coach at Duke, not coordinator.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was asking about Roof last night, from what I read he was on the short list to be the DC when Rhodes was hired. I just dont recall that killer Duke D a few years back.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Michael,
Roof started as DC at Duke and became interim coach and eventual HC when they fired his predecessor in midseason

    ReplyDelete
  18. With less talent @ Ga Tech he had some pretty darn good D's there. I think he was also a finalist for the F Broyles award one year too.

The guy know defenses. With Chiz looking over his shoulder, I think it is a solid hire. Maybe not a home run but at the least a stand-up double.....

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tuberville definitely was OK with the guy ... thought he was good.

I'm aiming to talk with Tuberville again at some point soon ...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Probably a solid hire. Remember I said don't look for a lot of fireworks on the D side. I felt CGC would go a little vanilla with what he feels are solid coaches. He is not looking for a rock star but someone who can recruit and put a product he endorses on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Or maybe it's a 2-base error. He drops the bunt, and the 3rd baseman throws it over the first baseman's mitt into the stands.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe he was hired because Chizik plays guitar, Trooper plays drums, Luper sings, and they needed a bass player to complete the ensemble.

We have done away with the BBQ gang. Now the clique is simply know as The Band (hopefully they won't be confused with the Dylan backing and Cripple Creek singing group by that same name)

    ReplyDelete
  23. As for why Roof left DC at tech for same position at Duke, I guess because O'Leary left Tech and new coach didn't keep him on staff.

    ReplyDelete
  24. JG, has anyone talked with Tubs since he was fired...i mean, resigned? i was a bit shocked when i saw him on the Under Armour high school game the other nite.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To be fair, Ted greatly improved minnesotas defense from the previous year.

He's a helluva lb coach. Hell help James tremendously. Solid hire

    ReplyDelete
  26. He is 45, do we have a coach over 50? - Is it just me or does our staff seem young...Which is fine with me...Just curious

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tuberville remains an active member of the community, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Emmett ...

They are men ... they are in the neighborhood of 40.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great Hire. I agree with Jay G. He just wants somebody to manage the store not a landlord!

    ReplyDelete
  30. this did throw my pro coach theory out the window....

    what about d line???

PS I AM A MAN,,, I CAN TAKE IT

    ReplyDelete
  31. Generally, I like the hire ... but my one problem is that he does have some ... Bill ... Curry ... in his bloodline.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If you look deep enough into any coaches past you're going to find failure. Failure and the fear of it might drive coaches harder than the pursuit of success. Some coaches have to fail at HC before they can be comfortable only being a Coordinator.

Plus...the D is about the Chiz!

    ReplyDelete
  33. From what I understand, Roof turned the Gopher defense around. My expectations for this Auburn team are going through the Roof.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If our defense stinks next year, is it because we have a leaky Roof?

    ReplyDelete
  35. By the way, Bill Curry was a very good coach at Georgia Tech and Bama. He was just unfortunate to be the head coach at Bama while Dye was kicking the crap out of them. As an announcer, Curry is a good head coach.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good point bigmike, failing at utc greatly drove bill Oliver to the coordinator he became. Worked for Kevin Steele also.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jet, just keep in mind Bill Curry always = Auburn wins.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If I remember correctly, Curry engineered one of the biggest comebacks I have ever seen while coaching GT against Auburn. We lead 35-0 at halftime. We won the game 42-35. I was nearly bald after listening to the game.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Plus we're likely to keep a DC that has been there done that with the HC thing. A DC for more than 2 years...what a concept!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous2:42 PM

Jeez - Gophers lost an OC and DC. They started talking about Roof leaving in Dec and didn't think it would happen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. RK ... thank you for talking me off the ledge.

You reminded me on one of the 3 basic fundamentals of life.

    1. God loves us.
    2. Cats don't handle microwave ovens well.
    3. Bill Curry = Auburn wins.

    This hire is AWESOME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. ZteveFC-
I do not recall that game.
However, I'm almost certain ROof was a strong candidate for Saban's UA-T staff.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The roof....the roof...the roof is on fire!

    ReplyDelete
  44. So what's up with the exodus from Ok State and Minn? Exoduses? Exodi?

    ReplyDelete
  45. To Coach Duke for that long...to go 6-45...many men would have given up...I give him credit for that

    ReplyDelete
  46. JetZ -
Pleaze expound & alzo expand on item 2. They don't handle them well becauze they have no oppozable thumbz, meaning they don't operate them well, or they don't handle them well becauze it'z bad for their health?

    ReplyDelete
  47. my cousin played defense at Duke for Roof, im gonna try to get a inside scoop on him here.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It would be nice to have a good DC stay for a few years without leaving for greener grass...and to just not have to fire an OC every few years

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was thinking chizik would bring a DC in to coach DB's next year, but it seems this guy is a LB coach. I am guessing Koonz will be the DB coach now because of the Z in his name if nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I Think Jet means that they cannot get out of them...because they have no Thumbs...which is bad for their health

    ReplyDelete
  51. Was Roof on the staff that O'Leary was going to take to Notre Dame until ND gave O'Leary the boot for his false resume?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Taikwon Paige is a 4 star commit to Minnesota from georgia recruited by Ted Roof...im thinking theres a good chance this kid will switch over

    ReplyDelete
  53. It would be nice to have a good DC stay for a few years without leaving for greener grass

    Or Texas

    ReplyDelete
  54. First of all I think this is a solid, big time hire for Chizik. Roof will be better recruiting in GA, than Nall was. Much like Chizik at Iowa State; I don’t think a bad stint at Duke means anything. It is hard to win at Duke and you see Cutcliff winning with his players. He brought in the best recruiting class to Duke ever in 06'. Minnesota’s defense was ranked 119(dead last) in 07'. In 08' they improved to 79th, which is great progress. Someone on Wiki knew this was going to happen because Roof has been listed as DC on there for 2 weeks. Is it just me or does it seem like we get 1 piece of good news every day here lately? Malzahn, then Luper, AC coming back, Boulware, Trooper, and now Roof!

    ReplyDelete
  55. By the way - I can make italics!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. War - That would make sense why he went to Duke in 2001 - When O'Leary left GT

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tuberville's comment that some people are good coordinators, but may not make good HC's is comforting about Roof, but unsettling about Chizik.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jerrard Powers joins Barkley, and Tony Franklin next in line to call him self a dumbass

    ReplyDelete
  59. ESPN-
The reason for Nick Holt's departure from USC to become Washington's defensive coordinator now seems evident.

The university said Tuesday that Holt could make up to $2.1 million as part of a three-year contract with the Huskies.

Holt will make $600,000 his first year and $650,000 in the next two seasons. He was also given a $200,000 retention bonus paid upfront, but that would have to be returned to the school -- on a sliding scale -- if he leaves before the end of the contract.

we should have offered him the bank

    ReplyDelete
  60. Powers was giving very large cushions this year. I thought it was because of his bad wheels. He'll need to play a lot tighter in the pros. I think he can, but I doubt anyone will draft him on the first day.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anyone know what kind of scheme he ran at Minnesota? I think it's interesting that he left Duke and Cutcliffe is having (by Duke standards) some success with his players. Very Bill Curry-esque.

I hereby move that we banish "the roof is on fire" from HABOTN. We should be fervently optimistic that the Roof won't fall in.

    ReplyDelete
  62. j-z...I'm pretty sure in this case it's pronounced -- Fi Yah - which is a very good thing!

    ReplyDelete
  63. my Cousin that played under Roof at Duke "He is awesome, Our Best."

    ReplyDelete
  64. Big MikeZ16, you make a very good point. Although Roof is leaving Minnesota after a year, I doubt he will be looking to be a HC anytime soon and with his record, I doubt many people will be looking for him as a HC. This could end up working out good.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Powers will be a 2nd day pick, it is a weak draft for DB's -
As a Corner he will be drafted as a Nickel man at least for the first few years, If he puts on a little weight I would like to see him become a ball hawk style safty.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Before "the roof is on fire" is completely banned, I'd like to add this - http://www.theonion.com/content/node/39024

    ReplyDelete
  67. J-Z, I second your "the roof is on fire" banish...unless he is fired...then it may be used once per Hottie in the 48hrs following.

    ReplyDelete
  68. also from duke player "Ted is the deffinition of badass"

    ReplyDelete
  69. If I remember, Roof ran an attacking style of 4-3 D with a good bit of blitz mixed in. I think he is also an older version of Will Muschamp with an in your face kind of style.

    ReplyDelete
  70. ZteveFC, yes Roof is essentially coming home having grown up in Lawrenceville, GA. Highschool at Central Gwinnet and then Tech.

Ever spent much time in Minn this time of year? Not a happy place and the cost of living is through the.... ummmmmm roof.

    ReplyDelete
  71. An older Boom!

    AN OLDER BOOM!!!!!

    ROOF SHAKALAKA!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. powers could do alright, if he can stay on a roster his first couple of seasons, but he would have been much better off coming to the senior bowl and showing his one on one coverage skills to the pro scouts. All he can do now is go to the combine and get criticized for his size and speed. This decision will cost him a good bit of money up front.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I can deal with Will Muschamp style as long as he remembers to coach the second half as well. Seems young Will forgets that sometimes. If Roof gets fired, can we have Coordinator on a Stick and Kicker on a Stick?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lets Raise the Roof in 2009!

    ReplyDelete
  75. It is kind of interesting that this hire isn't generating nearly the excitement of yesterday's drama.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have updated the main thread.

"UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m.: Still can't get this confirmed. I'm hearing mixed messages about the deal actually being finalized, but the two sides have held serious discussions."

    ReplyDelete
  77. This is not only the HABOTN but it's by far the most positive. I don't even bother with the other ones anymore. I'm sure some of them already have roofonastick

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous3:43 PM

I wonder what the sticking point is?

    ReplyDelete
  79. It turns out Roof plays stand-up bass - not exactly what the rest of the band was looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wow, I just realized that I have been away from the HABOTN for a while. Lots of catching up to do.

Love all of the hires so far. Each one has been competent and complementary to the other. The Chiz is apparently a very smart man for what he is doing.

But Michael, I hate to correct you, however the sticking point with Roof is that he wants play electric cello. Apparently the sound is too dark for the upbeat mood everyone is in, but it is menacing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm definitely not getting the Stray Cats kind of vibe from the other dudes in the band.

    ReplyDelete
  82. From Goldberg, it's confirmed:

The University of Minnesota has just confirmed that Ted Roof will be Auburn's defensive coordinator. He had the same role with the Golden Gophers.

We've been talking about the move here for awhile.

"Our defense improved a great deal under Coach Roof this past season," Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said in a PR release. "Good coaches are always going to be in demand and I wish Ted the best of luck in the future."

    ReplyDelete
  83. I hear AU has spoken with the reps for Maury Buford......He does not coach......but he plays some Sweet Cowbell in the Superbowl Shuffle

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes. Minnesota has confirmed it.

That only happened 15 minutes ago.

Can't sit down and breathe for a second anymore ...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Welcome Coach Roof.....The staff has a gig at the Super Club next thursday, so practice playing "Smoke on the Water"

    ReplyDelete
  86. Wow on JP. I don't know about his draft status, but his AU football status was easily one of the 3 best football players on the team. He not only was the best cover man, he was also a standout on special teams. A big loss for Auburn football. Good luck to J Powers, hope it works out for him.

    ReplyDelete
  87. How's this for a slogan:

Auburn Tigers...Our defense knocks 'em out like roofies!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Fun Fact O' The Day:

Coach/Dr. Lou Holth is theventy-two years old today! Happy Birthhhhhday to him!

    ReplyDelete

JGT - Thoughts on the DC hire?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Underwhelming, I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  91. So I guess they made it work. The only question is did the band decide to change their sound and let him play stand-up bass or did they convince him that the chance to coach at Auburn was worth picking up your standard electric bass?

I am not under or overwhelmed. Merely whelmed.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Jay,

you think willis ends up coaching somewhere on the D-line or linebackers with roof's linebacker background?

    ReplyDelete
  93. That's an interesting question about the positions. I'm not sure about that.

As for Roof in general ... you can't break the bank for every single assistant.

    ReplyDelete
  94. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/ncaa/01/06/florida.strong.ap/index.html

    I know I can't link but o well.

Apparently Charlie Strong says the only reason he hasn't been hired for a HC position is his race.

    ReplyDelete
  95. They made the choice to move him to Keytar, but only so they can cover "Dream Weaver"

    ReplyDelete
  96. I find Strong's situation intriguing ...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Willis might take the whole line, but I can see him taking DE's and working under Roof on the LB's

    ReplyDelete
  98. Possible D-line coach... glen spencer assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator to roof at Duke and supposedly roof's college roommate .... Currently coaching at Ok State... how would that be for staff chemistry? Just steal someone else's staff.

    ReplyDelete
  99. How many assistant head coaches are allowed on one staff?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Roofie = Rohypnol

    ReplyDelete
  101. At least we are getting a guy that can recruit the East Coast and not just Big 12 country

    ReplyDelete
  102. Roof will be DC only ... not Asst. Head Coach.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Jay - is Powers 100% gone...everything I have read has him mid 3rd at the very best, most are put him late day 2.....Marks is all over the Mock boards from 15 to 50, but at least he knows he is a lock to be drafted

    ReplyDelete
  104. JGT,
I don't really understand your pessimistic view of this hire. While I realize this is not a C. Strong or a R. Garner (who is extremely unproven as a DC, but a fan favorite), I think this is just as solid a hire as P. Rhodes was last year. Like you mentioned, you can't break the bank on every hire. Roof, in my opinion, brings a good background regarding fundamental teaching and recruiting to AU. This guy has a wealth of knowledge and is only 45 years old. This is, again, a solid hire for Chizik. I am impressed so far with Chizik's ability to get "his candidate" and not necessarily the fan favorite. Just wanted to know basis for your opinion. Thanks,

    ReplyDelete
  105. So does Roof coach Inside LBs and leave him more time to Coordinate while Williz coaches Outside LBs and possibly DE's?
I think it would expand Williz's resume to add another position to it.
And if Roof can coach ILB (1 position in a 4-3 D) he'd have more time to concentrate on coordinating and gameplanning the D. Right? Or am I just thinking too much?

I still want Blake or Rocker coaching the DL!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I think that would be great if he only took the ILB, since those guys were who adjusted the D under Rhodes, and I would imagine the same would stand under Roof.

I still have Rocker on my wish list. I think he could make a huge Diff. in recruiting

    ReplyDelete
  107. You know, Joshua, I didn't do a full background check on Ted Roof before arriving at my conclusion.

I had no idea he was even coaching right now. I have heard the name recently and I figured he was somewhere coaching some decent program somewhere.

So the hour comes today to write Ted Roof is the new Auburn DC. I have no idea where the guy is. I look up Minnesota's stats and they're pedestrian.

So we're looking at a guy with next-to-zero name recognition, a mixed bag as far as career achievement and ... I'm supposed to champion this guy as a great hire?

He could be awesome. Nobody really knows.

I said "underwelming" ... and what I have given you above should make it clear why I arrived at that conclusion.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hope that clears it up for you.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Well since I dont know as much as a lot you, I rely on Wikipedia and the previous team's message boards to tell me about all these new hires.

As far as Roof, most of the posts seem to be positive about him and thought he was in the process of turning the D around up there even though he had little offensive support.

And also, Minnesota fans think Auburn fans are insane. In case you cared...

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think we just hired the "assistant" DC.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Thats ok......The Iowa St Fans think we are crazy too

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think CGC had to make a big splash on the O-Side, which he did...This feels more like a comfort hire...someone who he will not have to teach, and runs his style D. That will let him focus on the team and not just the D.

I like the hire, esp. if he works out and sticks around for a while...running off to another school would be a $$$ or job issue not a resume booster

    ReplyDelete
  113. He did take the nation's worst 2007 defense ... and made it average.

The guy has some skills. Clearly.

Is this a "splash" hire? No.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Off to the GMAC Bowl to see what it looks like from the stands and sidelines. The weather is an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I agree with you Jay. I think it was a conservative and less expensive hire. I am hoping he does have roots in GA

    ReplyDelete
  116. Splash Hire? No - But there is no argument with his D's while at Ga. Tech with O'Leary. He had more than 1 top 25 D while their. AU could have done MUCH worse. I like the hire.

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  117. Minnesota's defense went from last to 79th in the nation last season.

Duke's defense went from 113th in 2001 to 59th in 2002, Roof's first season with there.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Tigercowboy: That's an excellent synposis.

    Conservative and less expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Like a cheap republican prostitute.

So I guess Charles Barkley approves.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Ted Roof "Roofie" + AU Defense= The Date Rape Defense!

    ReplyDelete
  121. we don't need no water let the xx burn!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Roof is probably going to be a decent defensive coach. He isn't even close to the Rhoads, Chizik, Muschamp level, but who is. I wish we had kept Rhoads, but as defensive coordinators go, Roof looks to be okay.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Zoo Keeper:

Wikipedia is where I go to get all of my accurate information...

    *cough*

    ReplyDelete
  124. If he doesn't work out ... we can always file an insurance claim and replace our Roof

    ReplyDelete
  125. Faker...I don't follow Auburn football as much as you do so I have to start somewhere...

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hi All!
Jay G, any news on the DC?
Sorry, that was for old times sake.

Not a splash hire, but it didn't need to be.
So our offense is a nympho speed freak and our defense is a Republican prostitute.
    Me likey!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Campfire to discuss the game tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Did anyone read the Melick article on the Tulsa offense?

    http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/123123334622320.xml&coll=2

Graham talks about how EVERYONE has to be onboard, not just the offense but the defense and the secretaries too.

Roof was with a spread team at Minnesota and his offense ran a version at Duke. He is someone who can "fit" as well as run Chizik's defense.

A scary part of that article was that when Malzahn went to Tulsa, they're defense went from 30 something to 100 and something.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Kristina...

Welcome back to HABOTN by the way. Hope the holidays treated you well. I thought you may have deserted us for Tiderinsider since it is more your speed...

    ReplyDelete
  130. Nice Pic NoVa...love the saban cussing a storm! F$&#*# Class!!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I thought it was an amusing pic Atlanta.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I love Mike Gundy. I got a big man crush on the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  135. 2:26 mark...
    ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

    ReplyDelete
  136. NoVa - The way it looks to me Tulsa did not have the Athletes on D to keep up the pace fast pace their new O brought. So often small schools (and the Pack 10) put the best athletes on O, and the D suffers bigtime.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Anyone else notice $aban's getting some Fran-Boobs?

    He needs to watch that.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I personally didn't think a whole lot about Paul Rhodes. When the defense is on the fild 75% of the time it's hard on any DC.
Off to watch the bowl game.
    Go Tulsa!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Chris,
Wifey made that observation during the arse whooping. SaBear's got man-boobs.

  141. Emmett-Defense almost always suffers at least some on a spread team. A strong defensive coach like Chizik should be able to minimize it but he also has to be completely committed to Malzahn's offense. We saw what happens when you don't this year.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Should we take up a collection to send a mansierre to Saban?

    ReplyDelete
  143. We got Roof, Lupe, Troop, J-Dub,
    Boo-Ya, Gus and Chiz.

I don't know if they can coach, but they sound like they could empty a room in a hurry.

  144. The crowd is pretty thin at Ladd.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Chris I did notice saban threw his players under the bus after sugar bowl. He made statement we have to get better players. What if lets say a senior were to come out and say we would have won with better coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Wow, there is noone at the bowl

    ReplyDelete
  147. Bad weather probably has something to do with it.

Aubie - My wife made the same comment about Saban's moobs....

    TD Auburn...I mean Tulsa.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Well, that was quick. So far, so good. That offense is fast.

I think the Tornado warning might make the crowd light.

  151. Just saw where Montez Robinson, the former AU commitment from Indiana, has now verbally commited to UGA. I hope to see an improvment in AU's recruiting this year, but next year will be the more telling class. Too late to change many minds this year, but hopefully the new coaches can get an early jump on next years' recruits.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Ball St may not have to punt this game.

    ReplyDelete
  153. wooo hoooo I'm finally home

    War Damn Gus Golden Hurricane!

    ReplyDelete
  154. how's our new offense looking?

    ReplyDelete
  155. No where like home Mon.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Nate Davis thinks he plays for Can't Hold Ball State

    ReplyDelete
  157. 44 - That's the truth!

Harrison - are you watching the Tulsa game?

    ReplyDelete
  158. It is Fast Paced - For Sure....

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  159. Harrison

First possession ... off a turnover ... looked like the Indianapolis Colts

SEcond possession ... off a turnover ... looked like Auburn 2008.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Welcome home, Omnica.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Thank you, Jet, shugah.

    ReplyDelete
  162. somewhere between the colts and AU'08 is an improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Totally off topic, BUT

did y'all see Michael Carter committed to WVU and said, "I want to spend my next three years at West Virginia!"

    3 years - ha

    ReplyDelete
  164. Is that Barrett Trotter at QB?

    ReplyDelete
  165. who is that announcing dissin' my Gus? I want his name now

    ReplyDelete
  166. Well I cant wait to see how Trotter does with this O - I dont think Kodi can run it, he will be our "Wildcat" package guy

    ReplyDelete
  167. Monie,
    How are the elbows?
    Did they get rubbed?

    ReplyDelete
  168. Why can't Kodi run it?

    ReplyDelete
  169. I should have known last year when DeRon Furr committed and said - I can't wait to spend my next 3 months at Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  170. Aubie, My elbows are sore!

    ReplyDelete
  171. Jay G's avatar has me torn between humor and anger...

DC. Yeah. Yawn. Yeah. Roof on fire, yada, yada...I'm glad Auburn hired a guy that can take their 115th ranked defense and make it 62nd. Oh, wait, they don't have a 115th ranked D. Wonder what will happen now.

    ReplyDelete
  172. i'm pretty sure jay g's avatar is his favorite sock puppet

    ReplyDelete
  173. Kodi may be able to run it, but he needs a lot of coaching. Either Franklin did a horrible job coaching him or he really can't get it. I'm inclined to the former.

    ReplyDelete
  174. The reads in this O are crucial, Kodi had his issues with reading D's this year...plus that was with a limited playbook. If you only run 12 plays out of this O you will see pretty much a replay of the WV game....plays that will work a few times, but they wont last past halftime.

    ReplyDelete
  175. i think kodi will grow quickly with some real nice quarterback coachin'.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Franklin did good work with his QB's at Troy. Don't know what happend with Kodi

    ReplyDelete
  177. Jay G,
Do you use your LinkedIn account?

    ReplyDelete
  178. Watching Tulsa and Ball St play football is like... watching Tulsa and Ball St play football...yawn

    ReplyDelete
  179. Franklin seems to have been totally focused on Todd. He would have been OK if he had his arm. We could still see Todd some next year if his arm heals.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Tula does a little bit of everything. You never know who's going to get the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Linkedin = stalkers

    ReplyDelete
  182. Ha!
Monie, I think you are making fun of me and my well founded Facebook phobia.

    ReplyDelete
  183. And they line up under center and run the ball at the goal line.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Well the rain in Mobile just made it to the Plains

    ReplyDelete
  185. Everybody repeat after me "no more Todd"....Nice guy, but I need someone a little more dynamic. Oh yea drop franklin he is an ass.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Maybe we should ask Jay G to post his curriculum vitae -- so we can know him even better.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Andre Ware does not like anything tonight...he acts like he is not happy to be in Mobile calling this game.

    ReplyDelete
  188. I am so tired of Franklin....the guy was a jerk who thought that his well you know didnt stink...Lets move on.

    ReplyDelete
  189. you should all be watching Scrubs on ABC now. RIGHT NOW I SAY!
