We're also continuing to discuss recruiting, James Willis' decision to leave Auburn for Alabama and the value of punter scholarships.

RECRUITING UPDATE
- Our friends at AuburnSports.com report that DT Jamar Travis from W.S. Neal High isn't dissuaded by James Willis' jump to Alabama. Travis will visit this weekend and seems intrigued with new defensive line coach Tracy Rocker.
- CB Taikwon Paige of Georgia Military Academy, who began receiving attention from Auburn a few weeks ago, now hopes to make an official visit next weekend. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof recruited Paige to Minnesota in 2008. Rivals.com rates Paige as a 4-star recruit, though only a handful of BCS-conference schools have offered scholarship.
Booya
ReplyDeletewhere you at?
ReplyDeleteNice work.
ReplyDeleteHe's a frickin' P U N T E R! If he wasn't such a primadonna he could have stuck around til the summer and earned a scholly. I won't lose sleep over losing a punter. BTW, do people forget that we have Shoemaker on the team? He earned Frosh all-SEC honors his Frosh year... he was hurt to start the year last year and that's why he lost the spot to Durst.
ReplyDeleteBTW, all this scholly talk for a punter brings up heart burn about us giving a scholly to a freakin long snapper. That was the official beginning of the end for me and Tubby last year.
GO TIGERS!!! BEAT bama!!!
ReplyDeleteMiller, thanks for having my back on this issue.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why we're in the minority on this...
ReplyDeleteThe long snapper scholly was totally insane. Somebody has pictures.
ReplyDeleteHe is a punter...I agree with you both.
ReplyDeleteI'm used to it, Miller. Welcome to my club.
ReplyDeleteThey come and go...just like coaches!
ReplyDeleteThough everyone keeps reporting Travis is from Brewton, he is actually from EAST Brewton which is a separate town. If you go to W.S. Neal you get offended if someone says you're from Brewton and not East Brewton.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm here. To bring the clarity to the truly controversial issues.
Dwight is so HAWT.
ReplyDeleteSo Tyrik Rollison says it is down to Auburn and Kansas State. I really hope AU gets that kid, even if he has to go Prep or JUCO first he looks like he could be a big time QB in Malzahn's system, from his highlight films.
ReplyDeleteWhy check da news when you gots da Mons!!
ReplyDeleteEast Brewton is the 'burbs of Brewton.
ReplyDeleteThis is so not appropriate, but I have to chuckle when I see some of these guys' target ACT scores. My cat's ACT is higher than his age, some of these guys can't say that.
ReplyDeleteEast Brewton is its own megalopolis.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support, AU1.
ReplyDeleteJay GT, I almost had a panic attack. I misread your first sentence as "I live in Beard-Eaves Memorial Colisuem."
ReplyDeleteNever realized the urban sprawl issue in Brewton. Live and learn I guess.
ReplyDeleteMonica ... I posted the reply to the UAT letter on FB.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1980s, we had three kickers on scholarship, and the starter was Win Lyle -- a walk-on.
If Durst wants a scholly, what's his free throw percentage?
I am here for you Monica!
ReplyDeleteNot only can I not read, I can't count. That was your 2nd sentence, Mr. Tate. Excusay moi
ReplyDeleteTarHeel ... can't read, can't count ... that makes you a 4-star on Rivals.
ReplyDeletec'mon ladies...shot selection...
ReplyDeleteGame looks good on TV Jay how many people would say are there?
ReplyDeleteWin Lyle and Greg Carr have nice post-football careers as surgeons. Nothing to do with the subject matter, just thought I would add that to the discussion.
ReplyDeleteCrowd estimate: 4,000.
ReplyDeleteBonner needs a cheeseburger or three... DANG that girl is skinny!!
ReplyDeleteturn up the heat!
ReplyDeleteBonner could play solid productive minutes for the men's team...
ReplyDeleteShe's an All-American for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI brought this up earlier but I think it got lost in the Durst chatter.
ReplyDeleteOk, the AU plane was in Scottsboro then heading to Atlanta, Hunstville, Mobile then back to Auburn. I remember Bryan Matthews told the Bill and Dan that later this evening announcements would be coming of a few big time recruits coming in this weekend.
Who all could they be visiting??
From Football Scoop:
ReplyDeleteMiddle Tennessee St.: We hear Rick Stockstill has spoken with former Auburn OC Tony Franklin.
The real reason punter was not offered a scholarship. With Malzahn's offense no need for punter.
ReplyDeletei better erase that last message. i'm sure it will offend someone.
ReplyDeleteBattle of Murder Creek is some of the best and most intense football games I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteurban sprawl, y'all
ReplyDeleteI saw that, Jet! Nice work!
I have grown weary of the punter talk..it was a great story this year but he should have to pay to be on the team. Can you imagine how much his stock has risen with hot chicks of Auburn. Durst you need to move on and understand that the hot chick that gave you her number last year wouldn't have if weren't on the freaking team
ReplyDeleteJet,
ReplyDeleteyour child's letter was great. i approve.
DoWhat... just making educated guesses here...
ReplyDeleteScottsboro would be the closest airport to Tana Patrick,
ATL ???
Huntsville would be close to Decatur (DT Shackelford)
Mobile ?? Coleman? LaVoyd James?
If Willis is Willis, then does that make Saban the rich Mr. Phillip Drummond??
ReplyDeleteLove to feel the hate in the air for the Tallassee-Reeltown football game. That is a great small-town rivalry.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing that LaVoyd James was stood up on an in-home recruiting visit earlier this week.
ReplyDeleteAuburn likes him. It was not planned.
ReplyDeleteWho stood him up Jay GT?
ReplyDeleteSo ... is anyone going over for the UT-AU women's showdown?
ReplyDeleteWillis was scheduled to visit him.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it could have been a miscommunication ...
ReplyDeleteWhat do you say when that happens...Uh sorry my plane ran out of gas??
ReplyDeleteWho was scheduled to visit him Jay?
ReplyDeleteLavoyd looks like he would be good in CGM's offense. If he has fully recovered from his injury.
ReplyDeleteI decided to put up a display picture, its of me getting ready to go out on a night mission in Baghdad!
Night mission in Baghdad.
ReplyDeleteDamn. Getcha some!
Willis was scheduled to visit LaVoyd. When he didn't show, the James family called and couldn't reach Willis, they called other coaches and other coaches tried, but could not get in touch with Willis either.
ReplyDeleteDoWhat - Brace yourself for a serious bromance.
ReplyDeleteYou officially have the coolest avatar on the HABOTN.
yeah just recently got back from my 3rd tour. I was hoping I would get to see Coach Tubs whenever he was overseas but they stayed down in Kuwait and did not venture into Iraq.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Miller.
ReplyDeleteReal reason why we missed visit with LaVoyd James ... we were visiting a half-star punter in Letohatchee in order to offer him a scholly.
ReplyDeleteI'm intriqued by this ally smalley character.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about yall but I think Durst is more deserving of a scholarship then Dax Dellenbach??come on yall
ReplyDeleteThanks Mon, I try to convince my wife I have a cool job but she still is not impressed. LOL
ReplyDeleteAlli is a player and will be a star at AU over the next couple years... just a Soph.
ReplyDeleteWonder what Willis was doing?
ReplyDeleteDoWhat, thank you for your service.
ReplyDeletejhag... I don't think anyone would disagree with you about that...
ReplyDeleteThat was a bush-league move by Willis. Whatever his plans, he owes it to the recruit and his family to at least call and let them know he wouldn't be coming.
ReplyDeleteShe's got a nice stroke Miller.
ReplyDeleteWell, Mrs. DoWhat? is just helping to keep you grounded! She loves you enough not to let you get too cocky. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think new coaching staff would like to have attracted a different bunch of players. It is obvious they are looking at whole different level of players. May not ever get any of them but they will go down trying.
ReplyDeleteThat really makes me mad....Next time Arnold and I run across Willis, we are going to give him a Watch out sucker.
ReplyDeleteWhere have the ethics gone in the coaching ranks???
I echo Kathy's sentiments DoWhat... we all owe you a debt of gratitude for your service to this Country...
ReplyDeleteDitto the thanks for the service. Three tours? Wow.
ReplyDeleteA tip of the brim from me as well...thanks and you are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteNo prob guys, I don't mind doing it.
ReplyDeleteHere is a pic I took of me up on Saddam's pirch overseeing his parade field in Baghdad. Maybe it is not too small.
very cool....
ReplyDeleteAre you guys still yelling about Punters....A punter has not gotten this much chatter since Greg Gantt
ReplyDeleteNo real time to talk with the wedding on Saturday but just have to say
ReplyDeleteGO LADIES!!!!!!!!
Okay, I guess I'm addicted like everyone else but I will not check the HABOTN during the wedding but I'll be back in touch next week.
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle to the Women!!
WEG, good luck this weekend!
ReplyDeleteWinter X games 13 are live right now on the deuce(ESPN2).
ReplyDeletesomeone truly dedicated to the HABOTN would let some silly wedding stand in the way of checking in...
ReplyDeleteIf Smalley gets hot, watch out!
ReplyDeleteSo anybody checked out Rollison's Facebook status lately?? LOL
ReplyDeleteSmalley is BIG!!! GO TIGERS!!!
ReplyDeleteSWEET! Let's go TIGERS!!!
ReplyDeletehas he changed it? What's it say now?
ReplyDeleteIf the men and the women had 10 shooting contests (no dunks), how many would the AU men win?
ReplyDelete1
ReplyDeleteFT contest? men wouldn't stand a chance...
ReplyDeleteAuburn leads, 54-49
ReplyDelete@11:56, 2nd
Man Smalley has a sweet shot.
ReplyDeleteWhen she's open, yes she does.
ReplyDeleteShe's got range for days too...
ReplyDeleteRuthie Bolton in the house. I loved her and her sister. Used to be a ball boy for the womens teams during the late 80s and man those women could ball. Vickie Orr could be argued as the best basketball player in Auburn history, men or women.
ReplyDeleteMengelt could have an argument about that though.
I always forget he played a part in Jetgate.
I haven't seen her do it at AU...yet... But, then again, with Bonner and Boddie she hasn't had to. But, she can absolutely take over a game when she has to.
ReplyDeleteShe's had the ability to play off of Boddie and Bonner and wait on her shot to open up. She does have the ability to create her shot though. She's fun to watch.
East Brewton is to Brewton
ReplyDeleteas
Mountain Brook is to Birmingham?
Alan did you say Ruthie Bolton was in the house??? Man she and her sister Maola would come back to the Student Act in the early 90's and just run clinics. I'm talking about the courts that us almost D-1players were on.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, Steven Adler couldn't handle his heroine tonight on Sober House.
ReplyDeleteYou'll get em next time Steven.
Auburn won by 18 points.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they just had Ruthie on during half time of the womens game.
ReplyDeleteShe thinks highly of this team.
Didn't she win like 4 gold medals?
Good game. Sunday's game should be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good game for them Jay considering their thoughts were clearly focused on this Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThat's a huge game for them.
ReplyDeleteBiggest game that's been played in beard eaves since the 99 mens UK game.
tba? the one thing I ask for... :-P
ReplyDeleteIt's up now, Peter.
ReplyDeletenevermind.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jay G. Good work.
ReplyDeleteNo Aubie. lol
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered if Ziemba had ripped the head off of Willis or Franklin instead of Coleman, how would it have changed the way last season went? Inquiring minds want to know.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Brewton, I think of Grayson Capps and 'love song for Bobby Long'.
ReplyDeleteGreat great song.
Wonder if Ziemba will fight anyone else this spring?
ReplyDeleteOk now boys and girls remember that we will have a HABOTN field trip to the AU v UT game this Sunday @ 2pm. Wear your shirts and lets support our Ladies!
ReplyDeleteHas AU culled Brandon Heavens?
ReplyDeleteI just saw that Tyrik Rollison is not only the 2nd rated dual-threat QB he is the 2nd rated most accurate! Man if he can only pull that 13 up on his ACT. :(
ReplyDeleteI will be at the game... but I have no HABOTN shirt...
ReplyDeleteMillerTime how did you not get a HABOTN shirt??
ReplyDeletejust wear a blue t-shirt, then spell out HABOTN in orange electrical tape.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to kick it with you all if there will be a meeting place for UT.
ReplyDeleteRecruiting will keep me mighty busy ...
Jay G, just look for a bunch of people that look like they're from the internets, all wearing the same shirt.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a plan Jay!
ReplyDeleteNight all...Go Lady Tigers!
ReplyDeleteI think the Brother Husbands and I are heading to bed.
ReplyDeleteJay GT- great work as always. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGood night all; Elvis has just left the building.
I guess you could label me as a late bloomer on the HABOTN circuit...
ReplyDeleteT-shirt orders were being taken about the time I started to get acquainted with the HABOTN... And well, I just don't have a shirt. I guess I missed out.
Anybody got an up-to-date visitor list for this weekend?
ReplyDeleteTyrik will probaly never learn the system
ReplyDeleteThe 13 on the ACT is certainly not encouraging, but he did take Algebra II in summer school. Anybody who can pass Algebra II should be able to score better than a 13. 13 is for shop majors.
ReplyDeleteI know that it is late and most everyone has called it a night but I have one more question in regard to the Durst situation. Since he is a walk on and there seems to be some concern on his part as to being able to continue football and pay his way to school without a job, can someone other than himself or his parents pay for his tuition, etc. without breaking any NCAA rules? I mean come on, everybody has a situation now and then, especially in these bad financial times, where they are just up against it money wise. A lot of deserving kids did not get to finish college in my day because there were no Pell grants, government backed student loans, etc. They had to forgo getting that all important degree because of lack of funding or no job to support themselves at the time. Things have changed I know, but we don't really know what his financial situation is and we should not rush to judgment on this issue. If it is not against the rules, why don't some alums get this kid some financial help, let him stay on the team if that is what he really wants and help him help himself for his future?
ReplyDeleteYou can pay it.
ReplyDeleteNo, there's no rule saying you can't pay for the young man's school.
jump up.
You know, I once went to school and I really needed to make some extra cash to keep my lifestyle going.....my parents WERE NOT ABLE.....where were you then?
Did you see Aubie trip that little girl during halftime? Everyone said "OH!" at the exact same time. Aubie spent the next 10 minutes trying to get that girl to feel better.
ReplyDeleteShe's going to go to Alabama in 15 years, I'm sure of it.
Maybe ADJJ can divert Willis' returned severence to pay for Durst's tuition.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I understand your post Chris. I am a retired, soon to be 70 years old and on a fixed income. If you are trying to be cute with your retort, I am not impressed. I can't totally fund his financial needs by no means, but if the young man is deserving and wants to continue to be on the team, why then can't some alum or group of alums help him? I was only asking what I thought was a legitimate question concerning a young adult that is trying to get his priorities straight, that is education first. By the way, I am not a graduate but am an alum of Auburn. I have bled burnt orange and navy blue my entire life. I am one of those that was not able to fund the entire portion of my education at Auburn. There were no Pell grants nor government backed student loans in the late 50's and early 60's. I was a co-op student, working a quarter then attending classes for a quarter on an alternating basis. Even then, I had to wait on tables at a boarding house for meals when I was in school. But this is not about me, it is about a young man that may need some help in getting his degree and still contribute something to the greatest university on earth by being a punter on the football team. He is trying to do something that can insure that he can continue to do just that, either a scholarship or he has to take a job. I know about the having to take a job. If you are asking me to put up or shut up, yes, I will help a deserving young man get a chance in life, though it it will have to be minimal since I am on fixed income. Will you help now that you have put me on the spot?
ReplyDeleteJust throwing this out there and I think it shows how the dynamics of Auburn football have changed, has anyone seen how Texas Tech has been one of our main recruiting rivals with several prospects. (Weird, NON-SEC Big 12)
ReplyDeleteDoWhat, First, I too would like to thank you for your service to our Country! Second, I don't know if the dynamics have changed all that much. I think it more that these are the kids the new coaches were already recruiting @ Tulsa and Okie St. I would expect more head to head battles over recruits with the SEC in the coming years. Lastly, I don't care who we battle with, if the kid can play......
ReplyDeleteDoWhat?... your service makes my complaints about heading to the gym now seem ... worthless, petty.
ReplyDeleteI'll shut up now and go to the gym.
Good Morning, Hotties! I was just reading over last evening's comments. I only quickly glanced through Anon's last comment. I have a problem with something he/she said. Why in the world should alumni help pay Durst's tuition just because he's (was)on the football team???? Most people pay for their education themselves with the help of their parents and student loans. If Durst wants a scholarship, he needs to freakin' earn it.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Lady Tigers!!! I was hoping they'd be undefeated when we go to the Plains to see them play the Lady Vols.
So we lost Durst yesterday, didn't realize that. And to think I slept all night without a concern in the world.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like we are high on the list for No. 2 QB overall. Down to us and Kansas State. Hopefully we win that battle.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Ray Melick smoking? "Nick Saban, in hiring Auburn's James Willis, gets perfect replacement for Lance Thompson."
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't put Willis on the same level as Thompson, but he is a homer, so what do you expect?
They could have hired Jimmy Kimmel and Melick would have labeled it the perfect hire...
ReplyDeleteOk Hotties....
ReplyDeleteGreat Friday to ya!
In anticipation of 5PM...I present the best of Wet Willy
Weekend
Hi, FSJ. T.G.I.F. I can't watch youtube at work, but I do sort of know the former drummer, Louis Ross, from Wet Willy. He's married to my doctor's nurse.
ReplyDeletePCTiger, are you in PCB, FL? If so you can see my 1st cousin on the NBC news affiliate broadcasting the sports every night.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Auburn's recruiting strategy. I think we will see them battle with UAT for the top guys in Alabama but I think we will move some of our secondary efforts to Big 12 country instead of south Florida which Gran headed up previously. OU and TX leave alot of good left overs in that area.
War damn rollison on this beautiful Friday
ReplyDeleteFSJ-
ReplyDeletegot the Wet Willy on my iPod.
Anon- neither you nor any other person affiliated with AU can pay for tuition or otherwise provide assistance to an athlete, unless your relationship preceded him/her becoming an athlete (e.g. your next door neighbor's kid whom you've been doting on for years). It would be a violation of NCAA rules. Now any non-athlete student, help yourself.
BTW- good morning Hotties!!!
Anony, I have no doubt that your heart is in the right place ... but football players can't receive financial aid like that. It's all monitored pretty closely.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a new thread ... getting close to 1,000!
FSJ could pay Durst's tuition!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay for the answer on assisting a walk on non-scholarship player. That was my question in my original post. I had no intention to get into any banter with Chris on the subject, just my reflexes to anyone questioning my intents. And I certainly was not suggesting that anyone, alum or otherwise, do anything to put the Auburn football program in jeopardy. Thanks again for the wonderful job that you do.
ReplyDeleteI really was looking over the recruiting board last night and I am not sure why folks think we can't have a solid recruiting class. Here is how I could see defensive side going down.
ReplyDeleteI think DT we should be good, and it was a big need for us, with 4* Myles Wade, 4* Jamar Travis (He is just waiting on a AU offer, 3* Nick Fairley and I think we have a chance at picking up 4* Corey Gaines after this weekend.
LB seems pretty good as well no superstars besides 5* The Bull. I think 3* Lattimore would be a good one, 3* Greg King looks good and when AU paid him some attention he canceled his Miami trip to visit AU, Johnathan Evans and Harris Gaston will be good as well. Then rounding it out this new kid Bamfo (LB, TX) looks pretty good and is eerily similar to Tray Blackmon
On the ends, looks like 3* Dee Ford will be great, once he bulks up. 4* Nosa Eguae I think he signs as well. That could be it but with the guys we have there now should not be an issue. Especially with our major recruit A. Coleman coming back for his Sr. Season.
Then in the secondary 4* DB Reggie Taylor looks like he will be a difference make. I think next weekend we get 4* DB Taikwon Paige when he is officially offered. Other than those 2 not sure who else.
Over all Defense seems like it will be solid.
Any one else care to chime in or perhaps disect our potential offensive class?
I can't get a feel for Reggie Taylor. He's really, really small.
ReplyDeleteJust exactly how small is really, really small?
ReplyDelete
