Tracy Rocker speaks
1/12/09, LATE AFTERNOONHey everyone. I'm live blogging Tracy Rocker's introductory teleconference.
- "First of all -- War Eagle. I'm glad to be back."
- Leaving Ole Miss: "Houston provides a family environment. It's a coaching environment. (Leaving that) was hard to do. He's all about the players. I enjoyed working with him. It was a great six years. We had a great run. I've enjoyed. There comes a time when we all have to part ways and move on in this business."
- He met Chizik while he was at UCF ... when Rocker was an assistant at Troy State.
- "Coming back is a great honor. Everything you want as a college student -- I definitely enjoyed. A goal of mine is that I want to be known as a great coach. I'm not the player anymore; I'm a coach."
- What are you coaching?: "I'm expecting to coach the whole front four."
- "The thing I'm looking forward to most is hard work. It takes all of us to be special."
- On Ted Roof: "I remember Coach Roof when he played at Tech. I watched him play at Tech when I played at Auburn. He was a great player. In the coaching world, all I've ever heard is that he's a great guy to work for. I'm looking forward to it."
- Player personnel: "I don't really know much. I've watched them on film. I watched them through the season. It's a clean slate right now. I'm not going to make judgments on anything. I'm there to make sure we get it done, do it right and do it the Auburn way."
- Recruiting philosophy: "You've got to love playing down there. You have to play hurt. There are going to be bumps and bruises when you play down there. Every college team and every pro football team is looking for great linemen. They're hard to find. I'm open-minded to see which direction we're going."

AUnMobilz-
Boring, drab, dreary, dull, monotonous (or is it monogamous)
I like Cotton but if Malzahn thinks he can find a better fit then by all means let's move on. I think Cotton really wanted to be an AU Tiger. He hung in there when the bottom was falling out and commits were jumping ship left and right. I think a simple phone call from xCTT to say that we was out would have saved all of this drama.
I also have no problem with his dad addressing the media. In 5 years if my son is a football star you will be hearing more quotes in the media from AUBigCat than you do from AUBigCatjr. All of that is highly unlikely since he's a soccer player but you get the drift.
The Stephen A Smith article...hmmm. I dont know if I should even comment on that one. I'll save that for the day we sit down face to face and share a cup of coffee or beer.
aww thanks, Tar! Checks in the mail.
Eddie - Why you headed to Martinsburg?
I hate to be negative, but I think Coach Rocker has put on a little weight since his playing days. Did Arky pay him in BBQ? We need to get this guy on a treadmill.
I do so like your style, BigCat. Some conversations require all the senses (and coffee or beer) to clearly communicate ones position and intent.
AUBigCat-
do you mind if it's diet coke?
Mr Sensi- what was that OSU fan smokin? Talk about being disconnected with reality. Wow.
Trying to pick up some work that we desperately need with this crappy economy. We have a presentation Friday morning.
Good luck, Eddie. I hope it works out.
Are y'all staying in Martinsburg? If so I hope it's the Hampton Inn. And if you're looking for something other than chain style food drive over to Shepardstown and have dinner at the Yellow Brick Bank.
AUFan - Yes Cotton's father is military.
My comments were not bashing the military. I grew up in Annapolis and am very familiar with military and would never disparage it.
I have seen many friends changed because of it and war.
My comment was geared more towards stepping in and taking charge.
That being said, thank you for your 34 years of service.
Thanks Luv. These are tough times right now. Just trying to survive.
We are indeed staying at the Hampton Inn. Thanks for the advice about dinner.
Stephen A. Smith:
"Runnin' over the same old ground, but have we found the same old fears? Wish you were here."
I'll get a new thread going ...
Nice Wyclef ref, Jay G.
Did you hear him guest host on E-Street Radio on Sirius 10 this morning.
Mr. S- Am I getting old that I immediately think of Pink Floyd?
Monica- I could have used that advice about 9 years ago when 3 generations of THT men/boys were on a trip to see battlefields. I'm too embarrassed to say where we ate in Shepardstown.
I've stayed there several times. It's newish and the nicest one in that little town. As a matter of fact I was snowed in there about this time last year or year before last. Good breakfast and close to fast food, chain steak houses, etc. That whole Shenandoah Valley area is cool. The Eastern Panhandle of WV is great. It's become a suburb of DC. Lots of very cool history, great fishing, etc. It won't be pretty right now of course unless there is snow on the ground. Are you flying?
I'm w/ you AU1.
Darn, Tar. If you head that way again just let me know.
Just an open ended question, cause I am in sales....
Is it a good thing that many high end prospects are taking official visits towards the end?
Just askin'
Nah, AU1, Wyclef covered it recently though and I wanted to ask about the E-Street thing.
Floyd - amazing. Dave Gilmour is a personal fav on the instrument.
TarHeel,
The OSU fan was smoking some serious buckeye. LOL!
Agreed with Gilmour.
Driving to save money. So I will get to enjoy a nice 10 hour commute.
==============================>>
Ugh!! I feel quezy and lightheaded.
AU1,
That is an abomination! Bury that up on the Micmac mountain but don't cross the barrier. The soil is sour up there, you know?
Rivals says ...
AUnMobile 4 stars
Incredible first step, plays by feel, which gets him into trouble. Projects as a Demarcus Ware type.
Yup....and so I changed back quickly...it was too brutal!
But I did see my Braves may have pulled in Lowe. That helps.
I just finishing reading the article written in the Mobile paper concerning Chaz Ramsey written by Evan Woodberry. I must say that i am appalled at the discription of what went on between the training/coaching staff and the instruction set for by Ramseys surgeon. It was completely irresponsible of this people to alter any of the instructions as set for by his doctor. Who is in fact part of the Auburn medical team. To not have complete understanding of how to proceed and treat just leave me with my mouth open. It only makes me feel more comfortable with the fact5 that this people are now gone from the program. Nall’s excuses are unacceptable. He needed to completely understand what was happening rather than just making suspension decisions. I can only hope that if Chaz is cleared to play again that he will come back to our program. He should have a clean slate with coach Chiz. It would be good for him to have a fresh start with our program.
Rivals says ...
Denny Crum ... 4 stars
Crafty veteran ... can play many positions ... rarely gets caught lined up incorrectly ... solid technique
I agree, Mobilz. He took that big running back (Enrique Davis) from us last year. Nutt's a heck of a recruiter.
I'm not sure CGM is all that high on Cotton. He spent "not much time" and is letting Willis run Cotton's recruitment.
I hate that Beaver is already enrolled in Tulsa.
Ohio State has more talent than SEC schools? Well, that is facinating. They should get some of that talent to join their football team. The beat downs might not be as regular.
