Vicarious satisfaction

Auburn fans have watched their school endure its fair share of criticism lately.

Now comes troublesome news for a few other programs.

  1. That seems selfish.

  2. Jay any idea of a timeline for a DB/OL hire?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I couldn't help it. It was my first time to be first here. The excitement got the better of me. Kind of like... wait, nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Nice on-air work again J.

  5. Dear Leader,
you took my Ken Alvis, at least I think it was him; Tommy Powell fo shizzle

  6. This sports agent caused exodus is pretty funny. I'm writing a microeconomic thesis on the expiration of the NFL CBA, and haven't found any credibility in a rookie salary cap for 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Peter, regarding the NFL. The current collective bargaining agreement expires prior to the 2010 season. One of the things that will be explored before they renew the agreement will be a rookie salary ladder. This is brought on by the veteran players salary levels vs. some of the players who have never played a second in an NFL game. It's not a definite thing that will happen but it is on the agenda. There is also a possibility that 2010, if no agreement is reached, will be an uncapped year. So there are many different things that could happen in regard to the NFL and the collective bargaining agreement.

The Harvin loss is big for UF.

They will need Jacobs, Rainey, or Demps to step into that role.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Mr. Sensible, I am excited about the possibility of Harvin making a debut in Titan blue for next year! I've seen him coming to us on a many a draft board. But that is a huge loss for UF.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Like I said in the earlier thread ... thanks to those of you who listened to my gig today.

    Radio is pretty fun.

    ReplyDelete
  11. yeah, I'm aware of that, but it looks like there is a FAR greater possibility of an uncapped year for 2010 (which will probably lead to a lockout because the smaller market teams aren't going to be able to afford what happens) than a rookie salary cap for that year.

  13. is it to late to get season tickets to auburn baseball

    ReplyDelete
  14. I doubt very seriously that 2010 will end up being uncapped. As far as the rookie salary ladder, I'm in a "I'll believe it when I see it" mode.

    ReplyDelete
  15. ok tar heel... too much cough med for me.. you will have to explain the ken alvis thing...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I thin they should cap it... then we get all 4 years of talent...

    Thanks for keeping it Asian...

    You heard anything?

  20. Sensi,

In the last presser with Fisher, the question was asked if VY would be on the roster next season. The reply was "why wouldn't he be? I've said from week one that VY will be back under center for us in the future." Regarding what's being said behind closed doors, I don't know. What I do know is there is no pressing need to move Vince THIS offseason per his cap number.

  21. Peter, please don't get the ESPN rumors started again ...

  23. and now for a public service announcement:
The Auburn Diamond Dolls have set up the `Strike Out Cancer Run' to be held on February 14th in honor of Auburn baseball coach John Pawlowski's daughter, Mary-Louise, who is battling primitive neuroectodermal tumors, a rare form of childhood cancer. All proceeds from the run will be donated to the East Alabama Medical Center Foundation in the name of Mary-Louise and set aside for the EAMC Cancer Center.

"The Diamond Dolls want to show the Pawlowski family that the entire Auburn community supports them and are continuously thinking and praying for Mary-Louise," said Diamond Dolls President Megan Collins. "Since Coach Pawlowski is a runner, we decided to put on a 5K run in Mary-Louise's honor. This is a great opportunity for the community and all Auburn University students to come out and support a great cause."

"Cancer is a very serious illness that affects many people," John Pawlowski said. "We hope to have a great turnout for this event and help support our effort to "Strike Out Cancer". I ran the New York City Marathon this past fall to help raise money for the hospital that treats Mary-Louise and now I would like the Auburn community to join me in raising money for the EAMC Cancer Center, keeping all of the proceeds here in Auburn-Opelika."

Those wishing to participate may signup online at www.AU4MLP.com.

The 5K run/walk will begin at 9am CT on the 14th and will be preceeded by a Kids Fun Run at 8:30am. Late Registration will be held on the morning of the run from 7-8:30 am.

Pre-registration must be postmarked by February 7 and each pre-registered participant will receive a t-shirt. The Pre-registration fee is $15 while it is $20 the day of the run. Cash or checks should be made payable to the Diamond Dolls.

The race will begin and end at the right field gate of Plainsman Park and take runners through the Auburn campus.

  25. Nosa Eguae visiting Auburn this weekend; DE from Texas

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anthony Gulley visiting. Who's that?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Losing Lance is huge for the Infidels.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jet, I would say along with him and Kevin Steele leaving, it's not good for them. Especially with them going to other programs in the region.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jet, SeanZ, let's go to the source.

FSJ- are you losing sleep over it?

    ReplyDelete
  30. We know what the source is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd be more concerned if Saban weren't the driving force behind Alabama's recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jay G - Great Job today on 740am...You and Josh do a great job bouncing the ball of chaos back and forth. I never know what will come out of either one of your mouthes when you are on together.

Also Josh's age is no excuse for not knowing good and bad 80's music...I was not even born for alot of it and I still know.

    ReplyDelete
  33. if you guess "bad" for 80s music, you'll be right slightly more often than wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  34. THT - That is the truth

    ReplyDelete
  35. All three early enrollment JC transfers are on campus and attending classes. McCaleb, Fairley, and The Bull give Auburn a huge talent upgrade for next year.

    ReplyDelete
  36. okay. who started those in the first place? I thought you were always just joking about it. didn't realize there were really rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  37. After hearing the talk about it on the radio....I went to Capstone Report (HABOTN Lite) and all I saw was ads for Hormone Kits, Weight Loss and Substance problems...Just add Bear Bryant Tattoos or Hooked on Monkey Phonics and you have all the Bammer Bases covered.

    ReplyDelete
  38. An OL coach, an OL coach! My kingdom for an OL coach!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Griff has asked for an OL coach (again). All's right with the world.

    ReplyDelete
  40. BTW, I echo Griff's sentiments/request.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hotties, THT family is off to get some sushi and Thai. In my absence, I expect y'all to arrange AU visits for Randle and/or Brown. And get an OL coach. Merci.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm kinda with Griff, the play has been going for a second and a half or two before anyone else has to make a decision, who's gonna head up our "hogs". Is it possible we could get some OL over 270??

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm just messin', Peter!

OL coach ... I expect a decision soon. Secondary probably will be a bit longer than that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wish we could get an OL Coach that could get DJ Fluker to coem our way...Plus I hope Coach Willis has already called Niko Johnson Today

    ReplyDelete
  45. If Nico Johnson came to Auburn I would turn us in to the NCAA myself for paying players.

Just kidding... I would even act suprised when we went on probation.. "What?!!? We paid who??? Nooo Waayyyy! He just had a change of heart is all. He always loved AU deep down!!"

    ReplyDelete
  46. About one of the points in this post, according to this Peter King article, the rookie salary cap will most likely not be around as soon as the agents say it will:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/12/30/mail/index.html

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think Chizik should create a spot for Griff on the recruiting staff. That guy is relentless in his pursuit of talent.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Who's to say Griff isn't already on the staff.

    Some people use pseudonyms.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why should Auburn pay all those headhunters...when we can just have Griff hassle them

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anything new on Demond Washington looking at AU instead of OleMiss and is Emory Blake for sure visiting this weekend...he is a 4 star by rivals and ESPN has him as one of their top WR

    ReplyDelete
  51. So Rueben Randle's dad is saying that they have no intrest in AU...that stinks...I would not blame him for going to OK with Bradford coming back and their losses at WR

    ReplyDelete
  52. OK, I am alone on here so I am just posting to myslef....But I want to say congrats to Ben Bostick the WR from B'Ham...he broke his leg this season and was only getting talk from UAB and Troy...He made the Choice to go to Navy instead...I think its great when kids go to the military universities.

    ReplyDelete
  53. In reference Demond Washington, Goldberg said that he heard the recording of the interview and Washington definitely said he was thinking about switching his commitment to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Maybe Griff IS the new OL coach? This way he can act excited when he is hired.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Playmakers! Playmakers! My kingdom for a few Playmakers!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for the update DoWhat?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Any theories on why the exodus for Bama? Could it be Nick Saban's winning personality?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Zteve ...

    Parole?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was not sure why they were leaving either.....but then I heard this Audio and I understood....
Kopper Kettle Exclusive Audio of Lance Thompson telling the Bammer Staff he quits

Blazing Saddles on AMC right now...but it will be interrupted intermittently by a gameshow.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks Jet....I do what I can

    ReplyDelete
  62. PF ... thank you for the heads up!!

Aw, quicksand! Now we're in trouble!
... Dang that was lucky, dog gone near lost a $400 handcart.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hello Everyone. Finally made it to Martinsburg, WV. What a long drive. In my quick recap, it looks like this staff has gotten a lot of big time last minute visits scheduled for this weekend. Hopefully we can pick up one or two of these guys.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Somebody's gonna have to go back and git a $hitload 'o dimes.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Glad you had a safe trip up, Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks Monica- It is darn cold outside. This would get old quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  67. LOL Yep. It's extra cold now - even for here.

    ReplyDelete
  68. So is DeQuinta Jones of Bastrop,LA actually visiting this weekend or is this more disinformation?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I will say one thing, if you had to live here, at least you could have some fun road trips with all the big cities that are within a 5 hour drive. I know I would. It was a very pretty drive. I came up thru Chattanooga, Knoxville, Bristol and thru the Shanadoah Valley. It was neat. The last time I remotely came close was when I was driving an Auburn equipment truck all night long to Charlottesville for the 97 Virginia game.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Monica- Jones confirmed the visit and it listed on the official vistors list. I would take that as valid info that he will show up.

we all need more Run-DMC in our lives.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Eddie - When I had to do business over in the part of the state they used to complain that they were closer to the capitals of 5 other states than to the capital of WV.
There's a commuter train there in Martinsburg to DC because so many folks there work in "the District".
You're right it really is a cool location.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Cool deal. Good night all.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous8:09 PM

    Evening all!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Escaping the area of "The District" tomorrow morning ahead of the horde. Heading south to warmer climes.

    ReplyDelete
  76. did we hire OC while I was gone?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous8:16 PM

Howdy Do!! I am officially numb.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I love warmer climes.

    ReplyDelete

I saw JGT was gonna take his furlough in Feb. I say don't shave and do it over the week of Groundhog Day. Same thing over and over for a week.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'd prefer Jamaica, but Mobile will do.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous8:18 PM

NoVa - My understanding is it is just as cold in Atlanta. So I hope you are going way south.

  83. On a side note for us Mac users, Tim Cook is taking over for Steve Jobs for a while (how ever long that might be) is an Auburn grad. BS in Industrial Engineering

    War Eagle, sir!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Mrs THT and I prefer cooler climes and we dislike summer. But single digits is a bit extreme.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Predicted high in Mobile tomorrow is 46. Beats the ____ out of 20.

    ReplyDelete
  86. UVA has a player who is 5 of 15 on FTs for the season. I don't know how Lebo let him get away.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Bastrop (La.) four-star defensive tackle DeQuinta Jones has added his name to the Auburn official visitor list for this weekend - Rivals

And ESPN talks like he may become a DT more than a DE once he develops.

I am still intrigued by the WR from Austin...Emory Blake...ESPN said he does not have the speed, but great body control and steady hands.... yet all his highlights are him catching screens and end arounds.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Bwahahaha, thanks Emmett. That audio clip explains a lot:)

    ReplyDelete

    Peter Frankenschmidt:

mom, there's a good article on Forbes right now about him. I posted a link in the last thread.

it was 70 in Miami today. kinda chilly.

  92. Thanks, Peter. I'll check it out.

Anonymous - did you have 1 cloud too?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I know its cold outside, but Auburn really needs some Co-Eds to brave the weather and work on their tan this weekend...Nothing says "Welcome to Auburn" like a hill full of Sorority Girls laying out

    ReplyDelete
  100. Would that REALLY be so bad?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous8:34 PM

Emmett - It's alright, my wife says I don't use my filter very well either.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I spend all day being a "Suit"...So my filter tends to malfunction when I get away

    ReplyDelete
  103. Its good to see Quantez Cares about his poor FT Shooting

    Quantez takes a walk

    ReplyDelete
  104. AU1 - That means you can't tell Emmett it's alright.

Emmett - It's alright. Since you're filtered all day you can let it all hang out here. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Well I will be better....I would hate to draw the Wrath of Mon

    ReplyDelete
  106. Or as William Shatner would say....
    M-OOOOOOOOO-N!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous8:58 PM

I guess that would be right Mon! That's funny.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Y'all have no evidence for all these alleged Monica wrath. I get a bad rap. Poor me.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anonymous9:00 PM

Ok...out for the evening. Good night all.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Anonymous9:01 PM

I have nothing but respect! Not gentlemenly to have wrath towards a lady.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Mon - I am just hoping that when you become the first Woman inducted into "Ring of Fire" that you won't forget about all us little guys

    ReplyDelete
  112. Emmett... I appreciate you putting that visualization of Co-eds on the hill... I have this small problem lately where anything that is said, I have no control over it, I automatically get the visual. (Kinda like JD from Scrubs)
That was the best visual of the day!

And since I have told everyone else today, I'll tell you guys. My wife and I put an offer in on a house in Helena the other day and found out today that our offer was accepted over multiple offers! We're buying a house! So exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Shame for Bama. Guess that's what you get for hiring a coach with a reputation that isn't kosher with assistant coaches

    ReplyDelete
  114. The ROF is an ol boys club. Kinda like Augusta, just not quite as green, and with fewer azaleas

    ReplyDelete
  115. Mon,
Am I reading correctly that DeAngelo Benton is coming in for a visit? That's huge!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Miller - Here's a visual for you. JD from Scrubs coming at you to give you a big, wet, kiss.

    ReplyDelete
  117. ajsda asf askjsadhasd

    ReplyDelete
  118. Former Chatham (Va.) Hargrave five-star receiver DeAngelo Benton is expected to take an official visit to Auburn this week. Benton originally signed with LSU in 2007 out of Bastrop, La., but failed to qualify and went to Hargrave. In 2008, Benton was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 3 overall prep school prospect in the country. Per Rivals

    ReplyDelete
  119. you're now on the bad list Mon....that was just WRONG!
    I had to re-read Emmett's post.

    ReplyDelete
  120. At least the ROF does not have Steve Spurrier peeing just off a fairway like Augusta

    ReplyDelete
  121. ruin it for me Emmett...

    ReplyDelete
  122. Anonymous9:19 PM

I like how the color of the azalea flowers depend on the acidity of the soil...or is that an old wives tale, I don't remember.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Congrats on the house Miller.... we were in Pelham before we moved down here....I always liked Helena....It had less of a City Feel

    ReplyDelete
  124. Miller - If Greg and I move to Helena I'm going to move in next door. That'll teach you.

    ReplyDelete
  125. PF... absolutely true about the azaleas and the acidity of the soil.

Thanks Emmett, we're thrilled. We were not expecting to get it after finding out there were multiple offers. I think we're going to like Helena... especially moving there from the Gump.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Frankenbummer, that is what the old lady said when we bought a bunch of azaleas and other stuff for about 600 bucks last year. How can plants cost so much? But anyway, I am not sure if she had ever been married, but she definitely was old, and it was a tale, so you know, it may very well be an old wives tale.

    ReplyDelete
  127. we're even Mon...

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing... I'd enjoy Auburn fans as neighbors... I'm afraid in Bammerham metro we might be outnumbered.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Anonymous9:24 PM

Nancy Pelosi rickrolls? I never have paid her any attention, but I now like her.

    ReplyDelete
  129. No amount of rickrollin could make me like Pelosi...

    ReplyDelete
  130. Miller - My sister says "there are plenty" of Auburn folks in B'ham. I'm taking her word for it. We've just started considering Helena. Who knows where we'll end up.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I can't pay $600 for deer food. We live in a "deer metropolis" so our yard has no azaleas
    :-(
We had so many pretty azaleas when we lived in jawja. Why did y'all have to remind me.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Miller - You did not like the Gump?
We came to Prattville and I have loved it...The wife misses B'Ham, but she if from N.O. so she thinks this is too tiny.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I need a radio show.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Anonymous9:32 PM

    What would you talk about?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Prattville, is not the Gump. Prattville is a nice town. The Gump, is... my current place of residence and, well, its where I live. I know some people like it here, some have other feelings about the place.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I could talk about dumb stuff ... like everyone else does.

Maybe I'll just start my own little HABOTN daily show and build it from there. Show it here only ... interview the HOTTIES for their views on stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  137. That was very diplomatic, Miller.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Jay G... I agree. There is a large deficit of radio talent in this state... You would immediately be ranked among the top.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Monica,
Where's Trooper during all this? Haven't seen or heard his name in any of this recruiting. All I see is Luper. You know anything about this? Or am I just being paranoid?

    ReplyDelete
  140. HABOTN Radio? I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Gump is like this ...

You know that gnarly perfume your girl got that one time? It bothered you, but you couldn't say anything about it for obvious reasons. Over time, you stopped realizing how badly that perfume stank and you started focusing on those backrubs she'd give you, the 1989 Beretta her parents bought you, the beer her older brother would buy you ... and make you look cool at the high school parties.

    Montgomery is like that.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Jay G - You do great on the radio...like I said earlier I like the way you and Josh bounce the ball of chaos back and forth...I never know what you will say

    ReplyDelete
  143. Jay GT- would you banhammer bad callers?
i think that could be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Alan - Not sure. I haven't read anything. I've wondered the same.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I'm just thinking out loud here.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Well played Jay G.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Miller thats true Prattville is not the gump, and Jay G. that is the type of thought that rocks on the radio

    ReplyDelete
  148. you had a girl's parents buy you a 1989 Beretta?

    ReplyDelete
  149. I'm basing that anecdote on stories my friends have told me, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Peter, I have no comment.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Jay,
That may be the most accurate description of the gump that I have ever heard. I moved away to the beach for about 5 years and somehow ended back here. What a cruel cruel life.

    Free Trooper.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I got a 89 Beretta when I turned 16....but it was over 10 years old by that time

    ReplyDelete
  153. Anonymous9:43 PM

...and was it the car or the gun?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Keep in mind, I am originally from Arab. The Gump is quite different. Quite.
But, I did live in Macon, GA for 4 years while in college...
It is uncanny the similarities between the two cities. Same architecture, same demographic, same road grid... It's like a frickin' mirror.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Alan, I am sorry for you.

The goal is to move toward the beach, not away.

    ReplyDelete
  156. ok...5 years... whatever...

    ReplyDelete
  157. One of the big car magazines did a story one time comparing a Chevy Beretta to the 9mm version -- complete with 0-60 times.

    Very clever.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Chuck Norris is in the corner staring at me....I must go outside....Yall dont start a radio show without me

    ReplyDelete
  159. Albany,Ga and Jackson,Ms are mirrors of the gump also.

That's not a compliment to either of the parties involved.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Dorm K on the hill suite mate from Arab. Pronounced A-RAYUB.
    Lee Ann Pody and ???

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ill make it back somehow someway Jay G.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I think I'd put Albany more in line with Dothan than the Gump... But, I only visited All-Benny a few times.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Its a bastion of depression, that's what Albany is.

At least Dothan is close to the beaches. Has to be less crime too.

    ReplyDelete
  164. You got something against a good southern drawl Mon?

    ReplyDelete
  165. that's another thing that the Gump and Macon have in common... the crime rate.
Oh, they both have rivers that flow through them, and they both have famous dead singers buried there.
    Uncanny I say... Uncanny.

    ReplyDelete
  166. By the way... there aren't any B'ham to Gump commuters out there in the HABOTN world is there?
That commute will be a lot better if I could split it with someone.

    ReplyDelete
