Hey everyone. I'm going to add little datelines above each entry as you see above. It helps our more casual readers see what's new and what isn't. The dates at the end of each post don't provide a date, which is odd.
To Auburn issues ...
The Tigers currently have four of their nine assistant slots filled:
- Gus Malzahn, offensive coordinator (Tulsa)
- James Willis, linebackers (Auburn)
- Curtis Luper, running backs (Okla. State)
- Jay Boulware, special teams (Iowa State)
- Defensive coordinator (and secondary coach)
- Defensive line coach
- Offensive line coach
- Receivers coach
- Wild card (might DEs and DTs be separated?, might TEs get their own coach?)
SO WHO IS NEXT?: One of Auburn's jets is sitting in Stillwater, Okla., at this hour. Gene Chizik interviewed OSU assistant Trooper Taylor yesterday. Taylor met with Malzahn as well. It's unclear what's happening right now. The fact that Auburn's plane is there mean (to me) that Auburn believes Taylor could sign at any minute.
ONE!!!
ReplyDeleteJay any chance that Sen'Derrik could change his mind?? I posted that Phil Savage openly said that it would not be to his benefit to come out this year. He could better himself if waited. I believe Phil Savage would know better than Sen's gut feeling.
ReplyDeleteI like the dateline idea, Jay, especially as I'm traveling to CA this week and won't be lurking as often as I have been recently.
ReplyDeleteAnd sense Luper is scheduled to hit the road this morning along with head Chiz, Willis and Boulware I'm telling myself the hiring of Trooper is done and he'll be on his way back today. Yeah, that's what I'm telling myself.
ReplyDeletegeez louise - sense = since!
ReplyDeletewow, Mon... I get to catch you on one? I think you mean "since" :-)
ReplyDeleteThem Brewton roots comin' back on ya Mon?
ReplyDeleteOK Jay, if this is already done forgive my ignorance...
ReplyDeleteFor us working stiffs who cannot be in front of a pc all day, is there any way to get an alert when you post a new article on the blog?
From a previous thread: good work by Billy Mays
ReplyDeleteBilly Mays for ESPN 360
Sorry, JHZ. Too slow.
ReplyDeleteI expect this abuse because I set the bar so high. (See how I flpped that on y'all?) hee hee
Dear Leader ... we have an RSS feed, though it's somewhat fussy.
ReplyDeleteBilly Mays MMBSAL.
ReplyDeleteI like how her job is less "soul crushing" ...
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay,
ReplyDeleteI will see if I can get that pushed to my company Blackberry....
another fight with the geek gods of IT....
the beatings will continue until morale improves!!
MMBSAL??
ReplyDeleteI know all about those beatings, DL ...
ReplyDelete"Sports at work is much better than work at work."
ReplyDelete"Sports at work is much better than work at work."
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMMBSAL is a colloquialism that is indelicate, but deliciously descriptive.
ReplyDeleteMakes My Butt Suck a Lemon
And now everybody tries out that description. Don't say you didn't just do that!!
ReplyDeleteJay, the beatings part was aimed at my interal IT...
ReplyDeleteNot you...
In fact, I have lit another candle at the Jay G. Tate alter of wisdom..
Hows that for some SSBUYA..
Thats my colloquialism (yes I had to look it up, such big words today) for Sunshine Blown up your arse.
Starting to get a little concerned about the group's fixation this morning
ReplyDeleteDear Leader,
ReplyDeleteIf you have a BB, I highly recommend downloading the Viigo application. It is a newsreader where you can keep up with all your favorite blogs. The HABOTN works quite well for me with the app!
I highly recommend Viigo to anyone with a Blackberry. Go to www.getviigo.com to download it straight to your BB.
You can set up alerts for blogs (the HABOTN is the only one of the 20+ blogs I follow that I have alerts set for).
mmbsl...if i could do that i'd be a millionaire

ReplyDeleteJay G. and others, I am curious to know your take on this story.
D.Miller...
ReplyDeleteYou da man!!
Good morning Hotties!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to check in. Hope everyone had a great holiday season.
Back to the grind...
There are some hilarious threads on other sites about the lack of bama flags flying in Bham and other locations. HA.
ReplyDeleteThe story tell volumes about the char. of BC...
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would you NOT want someone to better themselves...
but then again threats are a great way to keep moral...the beatings will continue until morale improves!!
Sensi - That would make me go interview for the Jets job, video it and send a copy of the interview the the Boston College AD.
ReplyDeleteThat's because I'm an immature, hothead.
If all schools did this, then Bobby Petrino would be fired every other month.
ReplyDeleteNumber 17 is interesting on this list.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't know how to link. Somebody teach me.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&page=predictions09/n
Any thoughts?
I watched the Sugar Bowl with my bammer dad and 2 uncles. Hilarious. They took it pretty well though. I think they're glad JPW is gone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the BB tip DM.
ReplyDeleteJay, please call up Troop and tell him I will buy him a HABOTN t-shirt if he will join the Auburn staff. Also, call Garner and let him no the same offer stands for him.
ReplyDeleteMonica,
ReplyDeleteMy personal observations on the car flags:
Last week I counted while I was out and about the Ham. In the course of an hour I saw around 100 flags.
Since Friday night - 8.
Usually the parking lot at work is good for a dozen or so. Today there are none.
Thoughts, J-Z?
ReplyDeleteIf we spent time teaching you things we don't know how to do, such as simple multiplication, tying your shoes, etc., we'd never get anything important accomplished like getting Trooper on board.
The plane is leaving at 10:13 am
ReplyDeleteJames - That seems to line up pretty well with what everyone else is saying. hee hee
ReplyDeleteIt's leaving from where to where and where do you see that info?
ReplyDeleteMonica ...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the job interview. It's Boston College, not the New England Patriots.
Well, i am a flightaware virgin and evidently that was yesterdays flight info.
ReplyDeleteTo post a link, you need to do this:
ReplyDelete<a href="http://jaygtate.blogspot.com/">HABOTN</a>
Don't ask how I got this to not show as a link. Type this into a comment and you will see what I mean.
jhz - You need to put an email address on your blogger profile if you want hotties to send you stuff like link tutorials. Otherwise, you may email me at monica_wareagle@yahoo.com.
ReplyDeleteThat link you provided didn't work for me when I pasted it.
By the way, there isn't a new line in the link code I posted. Your browser might insert it, but the code should work.
ReplyDeletethe link jz had needed a "cf" at the end of it. interesting stuff. Don't agree with much ofit though
ReplyDeleteZteve speak truth
ReplyDeleteHere's a "how to" on hyperlinks:
ReplyDeleteLinking
I think Jay G. posted something similar once long ago.
Excuse me while I disagree with some of you on this BC thing. I like the institution that won't be twisted in the wind by their coach.
ReplyDeleteBravo Boston College, I say.
I think you just put it in their contract that they owe you money for every interview they take while under contract with your school.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of loyalty on both sides (coaches and AD's) in college football is sad these days.
Auburn makes Mark Schlabach's LIST
ReplyDeleteA fun read.
Thanks James!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Zteve....
ReplyDeleteLet's give this a shot.
href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&page=predictions09/ncf/
At any rate, it's Mark Sclabach's predictions for next year.
I couldn't disagree more, Mr. Sensi. You bully your employee into not even considering better options? If you had a great opportunity, but your current employer said, "If you even go INTERVIEW, you're fired," you'd be ok with that?
ReplyDeletePlane is leaving Stillwater at 11:40 CST headed back to Auburn.
ReplyDeleteStill didn't work...oh well. Mr.Sensible posted it in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteMonica = Modern-day Samuel Gompers.
ReplyDeleteThe plane is schedule to depart Stillwater in about an hour.
ReplyDeleteMonica,
ReplyDeleteIt is impossible to compare "real world" jobs with those of college coaches.
If you would like a more detailed explanation of this, email me and I will send you what I wrote.
Hey guys noticed Greg Reid got the MVP award last night at the all star game. Watched him play last night looked real good. Also Pete Smith looked good, made a huge hit in the 4th qtr.
ReplyDeleteHopefully CGC will be visiting Reid this week.
j-z, check out the link to the how to that James in B'ham provided. That should clear it up.
ReplyDeleteMon,
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to the Flight Information:
"Flight Information"
We disagree, Sensi. That's ok.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't disagree more about the lack of loyalty in college coaching.
ReplyDeleteHow many in year have turned down promotions in our careers in order to remain loyal to the first company that took a chance with us right out of college?
I might consider loyalty as a factor if HCs still averaged $50k, taught a class and lived on campus.
that's crazy what Boston College is doing. i like it but it's crazy.
ReplyDeleteNEWSOK saying Trooper accepted the job and sites "a source"
ReplyDeletehmmmm
OK paper reporting Trooper has accepted job
ReplyDeletePlease bear with me while I try this again.
ReplyDeletePredictions
I just hurt myself. I was patting myself on the back and I jumped up when I read about Trooper and....let's just say I'm not as limber as I used to be.
ReplyDeleteNote to self-
ReplyDeletebuy lemons and Depends
auburnsports.com has it up too.
ReplyDeleteTo the college coaches, I imagine their jobs feel very much like "real world jobs."
ReplyDeleteIt's not like they are taking an oath to defend the constitution or anything. It is football. I consider it no higher than what I do, and I would like the freedom to search for better jobs if I feel like it.
All that being said, it is also well within BC's right to fire the guy for interviewing. If he has a problem with it, then quit and go elsewhere. Kind of like how Auburn was well within their rights to hire someone with less success for less money. We are all free here baby, it's America!
I'm hearing Troop and Lupe will be co-Assistant Head Coaches.
ReplyDeleteNow Bryan Matthews at Rivals is saying Trooper is a done deal.
ReplyDeleteMon.
ReplyDeleteP Marshall is reporting it now also!!!!
Go Coach Chiz!
OSU rivals site says done deal!
ReplyDeleteAssuming these multiple sources (NewsOK and OSU Rivals site) are right, we got Troop! Now that we have him, who's next? Garner is hesitating with UT, let's swoop in abd grab him while we still can.
What's the latest on the DC front?
Are you sure it isn't Assistant to the Head Coach, Jet?
ReplyDeleteYou guys know i'm Loving the "War Bald Eagle" Staff we are assembling!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Q is in! AU
ReplyDeleteAmen cousin Michael
ReplyDeletesounds like we got our big time recruiters on board just in time. We are going to need some good talent developers on the O and D lines and we will have a good staff.
ReplyDeleteAny first impressinos on how well this staff will work together? Do you think Auburn will start looking westward now for recruits?
ReplyDeleteThese guys "title" isn't going to fit on their nametags.
ReplyDeleteQuad-assistant Head Coach / Co -Defensive Coordinator / emphasis at D line, twice removed, with a "no interviewing clause" and a "big buyout".
I love it when a plan comes together!
ReplyDeleteAU rivals has it on thier site also...Trooper a Tiger
ReplyDeleteDamn Gene... Go boy GO!!
Trooper is a huge "get". If I wasn't so slow and lazy, I'd play for this coaching staff
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on the Boston College situation.
ReplyDeleteBoston College Serves Notice
Now we need some WR's for Trooper to coach. Like mayber perhaps Rueben Randle...
ReplyDelete:-)
Is the Z addition not automatic when he signs?
ReplyDeleteTrooperZ!
Yes they are going to work well together! Luper and Chiz go way back. Luper and Trooper go back and Luper is part of why Trooper is now a Tiger.
ReplyDeleteLuper has already said he'll be recruiting in Texas. Maybe not today, but eventually.
By the way, Colin Cowherd agrees with me. Listen to his open for the last hour of his show when you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteTHE HERD
Monica...I got dizzy just reading that.
ReplyDeleteTrooper hire is a good one. Most UT fans hated him leaving them. He is a great addition in my opinion. Keep it up Chiz.
ReplyDeleteI get dizzy thinking about the potential. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteQuoting Jay Skipworth at BC Sports --
ReplyDelete"It is about time that a major college football program put its proverbial foot down on the madness that is the coaching search. Really, this whole coaching carousal has been out of control for years."
I completely agree that the coaching carousal is out of hand...someone needs to get right on that!
Sounds a little like communism to me...telling me what to I can't do with my time. I bet they end up losing him anyway because who wants to work with that sort hanging over you?
Hey Mon, bet ya can't say that 3 times real fast.
ReplyDeleteI think I dribbled a little bit after reading that Monica. Still ..... trying REAL hard not to get my hopes up like I did last year. This will be their first year together as a full staff.
ReplyDeleteI almost think it makes him look like a punk if he doesn't interview. That's what I learned while I was incarcerated.
ReplyDeleteOk...I wasn't incarcerated, but I did watch LockUp on MSNBC last night.
Mr. S- When did you get a column?
ReplyDeleteI'd wrap a pretty little pink bow around my Jets video tape and have it sent to BC's AD via a courier wearing a Notre Dame jersey.
ReplyDelete:-)
Note to self - don't get Monica torqued at me.
ReplyDeleteMon....DC rumors please!!!!
ReplyDeleteAunMobilZ, CurtiZ and TrooperZ with cool sunglasses = SHAFT x 3, or = seperated at birth.
ReplyDeleteFor the record if by some act of the football gods we are able to snag Rueben Randle I will pass out.
ReplyDeleteYou'd win that bet, Big Mile. ha
ReplyDeleteWill - I don't have any DC rumors.
This will probably result in my death, but here goes.
ReplyDeleteMonica posted:"I'd wrap a pretty little pink bow around my Jets video tape and have it sent to BC's AD via a courier wearing a Notre Dame jersey. :-)"
If I were the AD, I'd mail that box back to you, unopened, with a pink slip attached and written on it would be the words, "Kiss Off Loser". Then I would hire a coach who could beat Vanderbilt.
LOL! ;-)
The coach can't interview, but BC can later on still fire him prior to the end of the contract term. If BC fired the coach for interviewing....good luck hiring another coach.
ReplyDeleteZhoopie,
ReplyDeleteto honor my brothers of the "Bald n Shades" check out my new avatar pic!
Unless there is a "no interview" clause in the BC coaches contract, he could also sue the crap out of BC for firing him.
ReplyDeleteMobilZ.....it's seperated at birth indeed.
ReplyDeleteHoopie - Last night I posted the Shaft theme music and suggested it for play at the first home game!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA Love it, Mobile!
ReplyDeleteWe have the best looking staff so far in all of college football. Someone said (it may have been someone here) we should find out if Luper and Trooper have any eligibility left because they both look like they could still play.
Alright Sensi ... you take Colin Cowherd, and I'll take Monica and will have 2 x 4 fight at the OK Corral on the Jag issue ... I like my chances with the Brewton Basher on my team.
ReplyDeletepffft Sensi - no you wouldn't
ReplyDelete:-)
That staff is gonna be some bad mutha - shut yo mouth - Just talkin 'bout the coaches. We can dig it
ReplyDeleteMon,
ReplyDeleteIs already on it.... we will have Black Helmets, black Leather pants and jersey's this year with black visors as a new unnie's!!!!
Don't bet on it, Monica.
ReplyDeleteaight now - I have to draw the line at uni's all one color...
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the ESPN Mark Schlabach 2009 Predictions Column, my opinion (worth every cent that I've been paid to offer it) is that the column has some good points and some utter nonsense. The part about AU with Malzahn being named coach in waiting following an 0-3 start with AU losing to La. Tech, MSU and WVA to open the season? That's nonsense.
ReplyDeleteOK Sensi. I still luv ya.
ReplyDeleteMr S....A good contract should have "balance" in the relationship.
ReplyDeleteA contract that says...you coach good and we'll pay you what was agreed for the time agreed...Oh,and.... we can fire you at our whim and you can't interview for other jobs,...would only attract loser coaches that didn't have any other options.
That type of contract could probably be voided in court for for onerous imbalance.
Hoopie,
ReplyDeleteThe point is I am happy to see a school and AD who won't take it anymore.
The problem is the agents and the contracts. Both are unreasonable.
Just like Bama fans and expectations (couldn't resist).
Thanks for reading everyone.
Mon,
ReplyDeleteyou don't like the unnie change, ok!
WE will stay traditional.... how about the warmups then?
Mon...Shaft music....nice idea.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we need MobilZ on the field with them representin' the HABOTN and wearing the T shirt.
It's no secret that I have felt our WR development/fundamentals have been the underlying offensive problem for the last 3 years.
ReplyDeleteI am PUMPED that TrooperZ is on board.
Mr. Sensible: "I like the institution that won't be twisted in the wind by their coach.
ReplyDeleteBravo Boston College, I say."
And I join you. The coach has a contract. He should honor it. Student-athletes are not free to transfer to other schools or even to go pro willy-nilly, even if they think it will "better" themselves.
The whole coaching thing with switching jobs and driving up the market (which seems at least partially driven by agent relationships that border on incestuous with big name coaches sharing a single agent) is out of hand.
I hope other schools follow the lead that BC seems to have set here. While you are our coach, you are our coach. And the second you think you want out for greener pastures, get thee gone.
Trooper is so bad he doesn't require a Z.
ReplyDeleteWarm up! Perfect compromise. I like your style, Mobile.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Trooper is on board. That's a huge hire. Now let's get a top level DC on board and see if Rodney Garner still wants to listen to us.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Boston College thing vs the real world...most of us in the real world don't sign contracts that bind us to a job for a number of years. In theory when you sign that contract you are telling giving your employer your word that for that time period you would perform a certain duty for an amount agreed upon. Now I'm all for people getting the most money they can, but in the real world if you are two years into a 5 year deal and have had your best job at the company you work for, it's highly unlikely that you can just step in and renegotiate more money like almost every coach does after 9 or 10 win season these days, much less break a binding contract like both the coaches and schools do on a regular basis. So it's just hard to compare the two.
It's not as much of a contract, but a pre-nup to prearrange the divorce.
ReplyDeleteDo we think the Advertiser should fire Jay G when he interviews with ESPN?
By the way, where is Jay G?
Boston College = blowhards
And this comes from a guy who's about as pro-management as it gets.
In my next life when I come back as the kinder, gentler Randy Moss I'm not going to play for a team like BC. Why, you ask? Because I know they will have a sucky coach who couldn't get hired anywhere else and had to settle for a job where he knew going in he was the AD's beotch.
ReplyDeleteForget BC ...
ReplyDeleteCue up Isaac Hayes.
WE GOT TROOPER AND LUPER!!!
Where is Jay G.?
ReplyDeleteMy guesses:
1.Tracking down a real source for the Trooper info.
2. "Mornings are for exercise"
3. Playing one of those video game things y'all like.
Boston College is barking up the wrong tree in this one...its one of those unwritten rules that AD's usually abide by.... BC has said that they will fire him if he interviews...obviously it doesn't say anywhere in his Contract that he cant leave BC for a bigger and better job...
ReplyDeleteAnd Roman...All scholarships are one year deal so if they want to leave for another school who wants them they are free to do so
Now if a coach goes out and actively searches for a job (CTT 07') that is another thing entirely
Amen, Jet! Who cares about BC we got Super Duper Luper Trooper!
ReplyDeleteCan ya dig it?
Never though I would see an Auburn sideline with coaches wearing hats backward and orange blade sunglasses....I guess its better than a weber grill and Big Green Egg.
ReplyDeleteAuburn is def doing a 180 from last year with what they are putting together.
AUnMobilz, believe it or not I cut almost all of my hair off a couple of years ago, so I was almost a member of your club. I had the gotee.
ReplyDeleteSensi...I hate the $$$ and disloyalty in CFB also, but if we really want loyalty, then the fans are to blame also. In order to have reciprocal loyalty, a school that hires a coach to a 5 year contract should honor the contract for the full duration and not force/pay the coach to leave early. Of course today's fans wouldn't stand for that. If the school can be disloyal and fire the coach for perceived poor performance, then the coach should be able to be disloyal and leave for bigger $$$ if his stock goes up.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand this aspect of college ball, but I also can't come up with any other scenerios that are fair to both sides.
Super Troopers is a great movie by the way. Good combination.
ReplyDeleteZteve.....Before you shave your head.....consider the shape. Mine is lumpy and would not be attractive like the AU Shaft Trio. Different sunglasses and mucho tanning booth time would also be required for ya.
ReplyDeleteContracts should be honored. It is really the only way to have some kind of stability in a program. The bonehead things that have gone on at Auburn this decade have seriously damaged our reputation. It is why we couldn't attract a top name coach.
ReplyDeleteI'm here. Working on this.
ReplyDeleteZhoopie,
ReplyDeleteThat's what scares me with the amount of hair I seem to be losing since I hit 30. I'm afraid if it all falls out that my head is an awkward shape.
It just occurred to me that we don't know the length of Chizik's contract. I would hope it would be for 4 or 5 years.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me monica please stop teasing me with Reuben Randle =( your gonna give me some hope for no reason, you really think there is a tiny legit chance?
ReplyDeleteSo far CG is doing an outstanding job (IMO) of assembling his staff. This is very exciting stuff!
ReplyDeleteIf what we have seen so far is any indication, the DC hire is going to be something huge.
OK, Mike Gundy is a man.
ReplyDeleteHe's 41, which makes him middle-aged. Stress monster.
He's lost two offensive assistant coaches. He's lost his DC to another school, and he's fired a staff member.
What could make his day worse?
What is Auburn hired his offensive line coach Joe Wickline, who has spent half of his quarter century career in the SEC and was at Florida about the same time as ... Chizzle.
That would be too funny. Is it a possibility? I don't know. But it's a consideration.
Now, let's find us a DC.
Still nothing officially confirmed, but I started a new thread anyway.
ReplyDeleteRK.....you have tuff choices ahead......lumpy shaved head, comb over.....hair club for men.
ReplyDeleteThe good Lord threw me a bone on that one. I'll be 70 by the time
I'm bald and won't care if my lumpy head shows.

ReplyDeleteon a message board someone in OK is recommending that Auburn change it's name to Eastern Oklahoma State University!!!
ReplyDeleteSo what exactly is the argument going on here with the BC situation? Do the people opposed think BC is wrong, stupid, or illegal for what they are doing? Because I think I would say they might be stupid, but I wouldn't say it is wrong or anything like that. Not letting him interview is an interesting move that seems to be within their rights, and it is probably a pretty good move from where they are standing. They will never hire someone away from a big program, so it's not like they would ever make a splashy hire anyway. They will always have to hire someone under the radar. A coach at a D-1AA school would still take the job because it is a step up, even if the school doesn't let them interview at other jobs.
ReplyDeleteI don't know enough about the situation, so it may totally backfire. I don't think this strategy would work at top tier programs. But I also don't think BC is wrong. It is a business, they made a business decision, big deal.
I have to agree with Michael in this whole BC/ Jagodz deal. I think both sides have made a commitment to one another. If Jagogz decides he wants to see if he can upgrade his job or as some would say "better himself", then he better be prepared for the consequences. What would Jagod say if BC decided they were just going to interview a few head coaching candidates to see if they could "better themselves"?
ReplyDeleteFor all of you who are married in here, call your spouse this afternoon and tell them you are going to interview with a few other possible mates, just to see if you can upgrade or better yourself. My wife would kick me in the.....
test
