The Daily Thread: Friday

Hey everyone. I have two days remaining in my Gannett-mandated furlough.

See Sunday's entry for more details.

Please feel free to discuss issues as usual in the comment section. I hate this it has come to this, but it has. I blame Canada. The connection between America's financial misfortune and the Canucks may seem tenuous, but consider things after six ice-cold Molsons. Then tell me what you think.

Fight the power!

Dear Leader - a very cheerful good moring to you as well.

    Good morning Dr.!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I want to be 12th. Look at that !

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lucky 13!
    Doc, been lurking..... War Eagle!

  13. #15, Clifton Robinson.

    Booyah!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I always go fast.

    ReplyDelete
  15. AU1- a big War Eagle to you, too!

Yesterday someone said Oku would sign AFTER Brown signs, and Brown has visits planned in MARCH. Don't remember the details or if it was quoting a credible source. If the HOTTIE in the know is here, please advise. Too many interruptions while typing this...probably irrelevant by now

  17. I think that's dumb for Oku to make his decision based on where another guy goes, if you're good, you're good, pick a place, strap on the helmet and go play the game.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Happy weekend to you too, Dear Leader.

Dr. HABOTN, too late. I already read it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Luv - I was counting on that! Nice work.
Guess what, it's after 10:30, that means lunch is fair game. YUMMY!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Luv - From chair to chair, Luv and only when there's an agenda.

Does anyone else know the "nice shoes" joke? I said that to someone recently and they had never heard it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nope never heard it...

Yes finally final some real round ball action... Go Tiger Baseball!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mon- that place that has your works of art... web site?

If not, they need one sort of like this: www.galleryc.net

    ReplyDelete
  26. OK, nevermind and thanks Junkie.

I wish I lived close enough to catch some Auburn bb games. I LOVE watching baseball LIVE.

    ReplyDelete
  27. In reference Oku, I think people are speculating that he is waiting on Brown to make his decision. Mike Farrel on Rivals Radio said that people close to Oku said he was upset with UT for bringing Brown in on an official and that he had eliminated UT. He said Auburn was the favorite but Syracuse was still a dark horse because of the RB Coach Drayton at Syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wonder if this baseball team will be any good. Without good front-line pitching, I say no.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What up guys and gals?

The weekends are starting to remind me of this...

    The Weekend

  30. AU baseball hits Knoxville next month if any of you want to come on over and join me and the wife.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's a nice gallery and a nice site, Doc.

The place that has my work is closing. Soho Interiors in Homewood. However, she's moving to The Commissary Design Warehouse in B'ham and they have a very nice gallery. Their website is not so great in my opinion. This move is happening this week so I'm not sure if/when my work will actually make it to their website. I have my own website that is stalled in production.

  33. Speaking of art, y'all should see some of Scottie's work. He is FREAKIN FANTASTIC. And I'm not just saying that because I like him so much. You should post some links to some of your stuff, Scottie.

    ReplyDelete
  34. FSJ, i'm beginning to feel that way myself. stupid groundhog.

    ReplyDelete
  35. criminal - i don't like your bb prediction, but I concur

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous10:21 AM

So, Monica, are you going to let us in on the "nice shoes" joke?

I, too, would love to see your work, Moncia. And scottie's!

    ReplyDelete
  37. ever see the movie "canadian bacon"? 90% of canada's population is massed along the border with the usa. coincidence? i don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I sometimes put Canadian Bacon on my pizza...cause I like ham

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'll try to get to at least one of the games in Columbia, and I'm sure the Lowcountry, Midlands, and Palmetto Auburn Clubs will get together for a little pre-game shindig when we play the gamecocks in April.

My 5 year old will be starting his second year of t-ball this spring, so he's starting to actually want to watch live baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  40. thanks Luv. i don't really have anything on this computer. i need to make some kind of portfolio. send me an email and i'll shoot you some pics from home. brannsm@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  47. HABOTN w/o Jay GT = good times

HABOTN w/ Jay GT = best times

  48. Luv ...

It's like having a sub in school ... the first day or two it's all fun, but by the end of the week, you're actually ready for the teacher to be back.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous11:38 AM

I have enjoyed his autoposts, though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The autoposts have been fine ... but it's better when he sweeps into the conversation with an encouragement, a nugget, a reprimand, or even ... THE DREADED BANHAMMER.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Unless your teacher in fifth grade was Mrs Lunsford. Yikes! I'll take the substitute for the whole week, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Michael ...

Thinking back on my fifth grade teacher, I'm with you.

Forget it. Jay G can stay away.

    It's a HOTTIE coup d'etat.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous11:46 AM

You're right, Jet. I really wasn't disputing anything you were saying. Speaking of banhammering, why can't he permanently banhammer what's-his-face (his name escapes me at the moment)?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mrs Gerald- 4th grade. "THT, I've told you fifty-eleven times to not talk in class."
And I was one of the quiet ones.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Am I a bad person for wanting to occasionally choke co-workers who create unnecessary work?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes, Dr. H. You are a bad person. You should want to FREQUENTLY choke them.

    You are a softie.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Looking at the photo tour of the construction of the new arena, it's going to be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The Honorable Senator from Gumpland- you gave me (and a co-worker with similar sentiments) a good laugh.

Yes, the arena is really coming along nicely. I think it's going to be great!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Did anyone see where Marquies Gunn was arrested on drug charges? Distribution of a controlled substance was the charge. It was on the front of Montgomery Advertiser's web site.

    ReplyDelete
  60. He should have been charged with a crime against humanity for all the anguish his re-fumbled caused in the South Carolina game a couple years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You crazy kids behave yourselves ... heading to Alex City, then back home for TurboProp's game.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Interesting letter to the editor today in the AJC from the former editor of Creative Loafing, an entertainment/counter-culture weekly, about the affects of the economy and internet on professional journalists. His conclusions are that the public is not as well served by thousands of internet sites as by fewer professional outlets. He also thinks the rise in unemployment among journalists will raise the awareness of how the economy is affecting Americans as employed journalists focus on the all-too-real threat to their own jobs. We need the professional approach pros like Jay bring, unlike the ramblings of we run-of-the-mill hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Speaking of Alex City, that is where Gunn was arrested for allegedly selling crack cocaine on three different occasions, per Alex City Outlook. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  64. my buddy who was a 'friend of Aubie' has a great pic with him at the '05 Sugar Bowl. if you have the Sports Illustrated with Campbell on the cover it's near the front.

Monica, do you know Steve Fountain?

    http://auburntigers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/021609aaa.html

I'm not sure how to post a hyperlink. I also deleted the email with the link to the HTML tags.

  67. Just heard Bryce Brown's mentor on the radio saying he signed a LOI with Miami. Man, that guy (the mentor) is a jackass...

I wonder if BB's teammates at the U will be teaching him a lesson in Humility, and if BB has the strength to take it, or if he'll be another Deron Furr.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hello Hot Ones! A little noon day football to go with your lunch.

    Malzahn On Kodi Burns:
"I think he's familiar with what we're going to do. I think he's familiar with me. I know he's capable of being a very good quarterback. He has had three coordinators in two years, and that's tough on any quarterback."
    Malzahn

    ReplyDelete
  69. Peter, I thought the LOI expired?

    ReplyDelete
  70. SeanZ,

its unclear to me if Miami is going to honor it, but he supposedly signed it. I suspect they'll honor it, but I'm not exactly close to that program.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Interesting development, if accurate. I wonder what does w/ the David Oku sweepstakes?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Luv - Yes, I know Scott Fountain. He was at W.S. Neal when I was at T.R. Miller. We were friends and I think we both even attended this "leadership" camp thing at Harding University in Arkansas one summer.

    Just Google html tags

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yeah, who knows if his "mentor" was even telling the truth.

I had no idea that Bryce graduated in November so he could enroll in school this semester. I found that interesting.

Also, thought it was funny when this Butler guy said that Bryce's holdout was so he could aid the U in recruiting. Not sure how not enrolling in the spring wouldn't have been more effective than holding out, but nothing makes sense here.

    ReplyDelete
  74. This whole charade is the definition of shady. It makes you wonder about a possible bidding war etc...

    ReplyDelete
  75. PF the only thing that makes sense in this situation is for any program with descent options to pass on this 4 year distraction.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I just don't understand the whole "committed" to Miami part, as far as I know he's never uncommitted from Miami. Why not just sign your LOI and go to school?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous1:17 PM

    Steve Fountain

This is only a test, so feel free to ignore.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Luv passes with flying colors!

    ReplyDelete
  79. You did the link perfectly, but his name is Scott.

    ReplyDelete
  80. You know what this reminds me of? The BC coaching situation, that's what.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Michael,
Why do we have Puppet Hour? Shouldn't it be Puppet Memorial Hour? Didn't you burn all the puppets? Do you think the former BC coach likes puppets? Have I reached my interrogative limit for one post?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Doc, you can never ask too many questions.

It is still Puppet Hour, because that is what we have called it for years. Even though my puppets are gone, there are still many puppets around. And besides that, word on the street is that my puppets may not be so dead after all................dum dum DDDUUUUMMMM!!!!!!!

And about the BC coach: Man, there is so much to that issue. We should all probably talk about it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I like that suicide bomber puppet... A C Phelgm...
He got blown to bits and he still talks.

    "I keel you!"

    ReplyDelete
  84. scottieb,
I have that SI, its hte picture of Aubbie, MG andn Daryl Tapp and it looks like he's saying:

"WTF- Dude, we lost already, why you got to rub it in?"

    ReplyDelete
  85. the only real puppet is conan obrian's. he tells it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  86. On Conan a couple of days ago they played the classic Triumph bit with the nerds waiting outside for Attack of the Clones. That has got to be one of the funniest bits ever on that show.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well, I just consumed 6 ice cold Moosehead Beers and I say "Blame Cananda and Terrence and Phillips"

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anonymous2:13 PM

Bryce Brown could never do THIS!

    ReplyDelete
  89. it's a great pic AUn. he has it framed in his office.

i think D.Crum has the right idea. the whole Boston College situation would be so much better if everyone just settled down with 6 ice cold Moosehead Beers. it sounds yummy. i know it would make me feel better about the whole mess.

    ReplyDelete
  90. While you're at it, everyone knock down a 6-pack of you're favorite Coke brand beverage and favorite additive.

    ReplyDelete
  91. that never gets old Sensi! i have always wondered, was the dude playing using a regular NES controller or a NES Advantage? i loved my NES Advantage. finally sold off all my stuff in a yard sale last summer.

    ReplyDelete
  92. seanZ - I'm just polished off Diet Coke #4 (two caf, two decaf). It will definitely be a 6 Coke day by the time I watch Monk.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks Doc, you're good people, keeping youngin's like myself employed.

    ReplyDelete
  95. This is the accompaniment to Michael's 1:35 post

    dum dum DDDUUUUMMMM!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. "doc is good people"
    I concur.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Slow day today, the minutes are clinging to the clock and I'm ready to call it a day.

    ReplyDelete
  98. anyone got a link for Auburn v Elon gametracker. I can't find it with my phone

    ReplyDelete
  99. don't make doc blush. It's not pretty. Well, it's not pretty whether you do or don't.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Confusious say: "Watched phone, never ring."

Also: "Watched watch never reach 4 on Friday."

    ReplyDelete
  101. not having any luck PF. i'll keep looking.

    ReplyDelete
  102. i liked triumph's bit in quebec (last year, i think), with his fake french accent. very funny, too.

    ReplyDelete
  103. only thing i can find for live AU baseball is through auburntigers.com, and you've got to pay for the CBS stuff. sorry bro.

    ReplyDelete
  104. It's working for me and I didn't pay or register, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Home Run Joe Sanders!
    3-1 Good guys
    bottom 5th

    ReplyDelete
  106. Just my opinion ... In the PING leagues (metal bats) pitching is not nearly as important as error free fielding and aggressive hitting and base running. If we can hit the ball well, we will compete.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I can agree with that Phred. Unfortunately, there are some questions still with the infield. We'll see.

Mon, thanks for the link. it would totally work, except my phone won't recognize the plugin required.

    ReplyDelete
  108. dang we had two on with one out and Bowen grounded into a double - that's when a strong bat would have been nice

    top of the 7th
    3-1

    ReplyDelete
  109. Mon- Thanks for the great link. GO TIGERS!!!
I like watching the little people run the bases, especially when they are Auburn little people.

I re-epiphanied on the way home from work. If everyone else drove like a NYC cabbie, there wouldn't be nearly so many people in my way.

    ReplyDelete
  110. there wouldn't be so many people - period :-)

    ReplyDelete
  111. So sad for Marquies Gunn.

Pearl Jam wrote a song about that kind of story: Life Wasted. The protagonist in that diddy gets his life re-directed. I hope Gunn's life follows the same pattern.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I just can't wait for spring. That means it will be even closer to football season.

I will be glad when our sovereign, Jay G, is back from the Canadian influenced Gannett exile.

    ReplyDelete
  113. tie game... crap... It's frickin ELON! C'mon AU!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I just have never been able to get into watching baseball with aluminum bats. Games last forever, pitching is not important. If they went to wood bats, I would probably go to see college baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Elon College Fighting Christians was a great school. Now it's a "mini-Duke", overrun with Yanks. And of course they are now the PC Phoenix

    ReplyDelete
  116. GO TIGERS!!! We need a 2out dinger.

    Mon- good point.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I love the sound of aluminum bats. I happen to have a pretty good bat if I do say so myself.

    ReplyDelete
  118. ok, it's time to GO GET 'EM TIGERS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. WOOHOO! Walk-off!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hargett HR to centerfield!!!
    5-3 bottom of 9th

    ReplyDelete
  121. Austin Hubbard picks up the win in relief as Justin Hargett hits a 2-out walk-off 2-run HR (Kevin Patterson was on 2nd).

    AU wins 5-3.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Monk season finale tonight. I'll be there.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Grant Dayton went 7 strong innings... faced 24 batters, giving up 5 hits and 1 (earned) run while striking out 7 and walking 0.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Me too, Doc. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  125. make that 25 batters that Dayton faced... oops

    ReplyDelete
  126. I noticed that the men's basketball game is going to be free on gametracker tonight. I think I read that right.

    ReplyDelete
  127. if there's someone here that's also on my facebook would you please email me at monica_wareagle@yahoo.com

I'm going to ask you to email my office so I can see if my auto responder is working. Greg has tried it from home and it's not working.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I did, in case no one else has yet. Sorry, I was busy randomly surfing NCAA basketball stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Nice map. I will have to send that one to my favorite folks.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I like that, nice factoids. They haven't rated Virginia on the looney-o-meter yet though. I'd give it a 3-4.

    ReplyDelete
  131. mon....got you covered...

    ReplyDelete
  132. I didn't like what they said about George Wallace.

    ReplyDelete
  133. The facts provided for each state at the usdemocrazy web site are only about 50% factual, or less. For example 3 of the 4 people listed as natives of North Carolina aren't. Two were natives of South Carolina and one is a native Yankee! Of the 4, only James K Polk was born in the state (and only a mile from SC).

    THT
    Native North Carolinian

    ReplyDelete
  134. They left George Washington and Robert E. Lee off the famous Virginians.

    ReplyDelete
  135. There are famous virgins?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Famous virgins are called saints.

Put on your reading glasses and try again.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Today must have had the lowest comment total in ages. Stinking economy.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Still thawing out from TurboProp's game ... the mighty Trojans lost 3-0 to the Fightin' Pocket Protectors from Brewbaker Tech.

Looks like it's pretty cold in here tonight.

Oh, well. Wonder who will be tagged with the blame tomorrow.

I'm guessing it's W, or my man Karl Rove.

    ReplyDelete
  139. As a loyal Mac user, I blame Bill Gates.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Bill Gates works for me, as far as blame, not literally. I switched to Mac last year and I'm still upset BG didn't give me a few million bucks so I could quit work forever.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm still waiting on my check from the Microsoft pyramid scheme. I sent that email to dozens of folks. I've got to have six figures coming.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I have actually been able to retire off the money I made from that Bill Gates tracking software. You know that person who says, "It worked for me!!!" at the bottom of that email? Yeah, that was me.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I created a Southern version ...

    It's called Microsoft Winders.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I made an awkward talk show host version: Microsoft Martha Stewart! Wait, that makes no sense. Why would anyone think that's funny? Where am I? Who??!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I switched to Mac cause Bill Gates wouldn't share the wealth. Maybe I'll switch back if Steve Jobs doesn't include me in his will. Or if FSJ doesn't send me $10.

    ReplyDelete
  146. You could always just switch back to a spiral notebook and calculator and say, "Screw em all!" But then you have to deal with the notebook and calculator companies. Hmmm.... better switch to sticks, dirt, and a homemade abacus. That is the only way to teach them all a lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Anyone see the news of Danny Horn leaving Clay County High School for Benjamin Russell? For any non-high school football fans, Horn has had an amazing run at the small school level(1-2A not exactly sure.) It will be interesting to see what he can do at BRHS.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Michael phelps+ joe Namath= jhag

    ReplyDelete
  149. I'm still up...in the Eastern time zone. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

    ReplyDelete
  150. good morning Hotties!

PeterF - you need to watch more HGTV, or some other snoozer network

jhag- that went right over my head. I'm guessing you didn't mean to imply that you're a pot-smoking alcoholic.

Michael- not sure how I'd keep up with HABOTN using sticks and dirt, but otherwise, it's an excellent suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Isn't JHAG a high school senior? Posting after midnight on a Saturday morning that might be exactly what he means.

I think you use the sticks to scratch conversations with yourself in the dirt. It's not the same.

LOL You should have seen me trying to do it! I must have gone back to the instruction page 10 times! My STML is so bad that I think I'd have to go back to that page if I needed to do it again!
