Auburn def. Ole Miss (women), 72-65.

Hey everyone. Your No. 6 Auburn Tigers are playing host to Ole Miss tonight in Beard-Eaves.

  • FINAL
    Auburn wins, 72-65

  • FOURTH TO @ 4:09, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 64-61. The Tigers still making careless mistakes on both ends of the floor. I don't see much intensity.

  • THIRD TO @ 6:22, 2nd half (media timeout)
Game tied at 59. Auburn built a 12-point lead, lost it in a span of three minutes. Ole Miss has hit four consecutive shots from the perimeter. That'll change a game quickly.

  • SECOND TO @ 12:33, 2nd half (Ole Miss timeout)
Auburn leads, 51-43. The Tigers are on a 14-3 run right now: a pair of threes from Alli Smalley and some great passes from Whitney Boddie. Ole Miss is getting worked on the boards, too.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:39, 2nd half (media timeout)
Ole Miss leads, 40-37. It's a sluggish game. Sloppy game. Auburn will get beat playing like this.

  • HALFTIME: Auburn 30, Ole Miss 29.

Spence is a crazy man, and really funny. Coach Chafin, our coach at Lee, still lives in Wetumpka. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met. I think he was Spsnce's role model.

Pat Dye considered Spence for a coaching job, and I wish he'd pulled the trigger.

I don't really see Caudle in the QB hunt. As for Todd, if he isn't in the top two, I don't expect to see him playing at all. If his arm isn't better, I think he may be done with football.

As for Tyrik, I hope they consider him as a #2 or #3 QB. Moseley would likely be a redshirt, but you never know. It really depends how they look after they have a chance to compete.

In terms of tailback, it is hard to see anyone beating out Tate as the starter. He isn't spectacular, but he is a solid back that will get his carries.

10:58 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

That offensive line depth does look terrible. jhag was right about that. I still think we see a defensive guy moving over. You really have to have 3 deep, even on the offensive line. With two deep, if the starter goes down, you are running low on options.

11:00 PM
Blogger JgobravesHAG said...

Caudle is deff in the mix, everyone is starting fresh with Gus...And i see Emory Blake with a chance to start.

one more thing you left out Oku =)

11:02 PM
Blogger JgobravesHAG said...

And i really hope we reshirt Tyrik unless he is VERY effective in fall and used in War Eagle Formation perhaps.

11:03 PM
Blogger Miller said...

With the prior relationship Kodi and Malzahn have going back to HS.... I think he has to be the leader in the clubhouse.... I am not sure Todd's arm will recover enough to make him a viable option, could be wrong... Caudle would be emergency 3 unless tyrik can learn the offense quickly...

I see Tyrik and Mosely redhsirting, unless TR learns quickly...

Fannin, Tate, and McCalebb will get the bulk of the minutes at RB... Aycock and Jacobs redhsirt

11:03 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

jag, why does it seem like Caudle has never gotten a fair look? He was highly rated. Is his knees a problem? Somehow I just don't see an inexperienced senior getting the start.

I think Benton is definitely going to get playing time, if not starting. I would like to see Blake playing too. This wasn't always the case, but these days you have to figure you may only have the kid of 3 years, so you better use them. This is definitely a different view than I have on QBs.

11:05 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

D. Miller, appreciate the work you put in on the chart. Is Aaron Savage going to move back to safety? I know the plan last year was for him to play CB, but the injury deprived him from showing if he could be effective there. One more comment- OT is a disaster waiting to happen.

11:05 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I left out Oku, until he signs... then he'll move in there to the top 3...

Blake definitely has a chance to play right away... but right now, the other guys have some experience and will go through spring drills... until he proves it in 2-a-days, he stays out of the starting lineup

11:05 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Chizik recruited Savage to play safety... I think he moves him back there.... especially with signing Demond and Paige as solid depth at CB...

AJ Green was getting good reviews last year, and it was his first year playing OL/OT.... he could be a good one... has size and agility being a former DE

11:07 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Miller, I don't think highschool relationships go into the equation when choosing a starter in college. If that is why Franklin started Todd, that is a good enough reason to fire him. When you get paid as much as Malzahn, you better play the best QB regardless of whether you are familiar with him from highschool.

11:07 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Green is my sleeper pick for RT

I agree SteveFC.... but, that is why this is a pre-spring DC.... it'll change i am sure of it

Blogger JgobravesHAG said...

I don't know I assume it's Caudle's knees maybe he can pull it together and schock everyone that'd be awesome

11:09 PM
Blogger Miller said...

as for Caudle... if he can't cut it as a reliable starter (if injuries hit and it gets to that point) then I think they pull the redshirt off Tyrik......

Caudle would be serviceable as an emergency guy for a game

11:10 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I think he has the talent... just not sure he's ever really been given a chance (Caudle)

11:11 PM
Blogger JgobravesHAG said...

Is Oku really going to consider Cuse' over AU....

11:11 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Yea, all of this is really just guessing. Savage could end up at safety or corner. I do like the defensive depth chart though. It looks pretty solid.

The receivers on offense are mess. I can see Benton and Emory getting a lot of playing time if some of these receivers have returning don't show more than they have in the past.

11:12 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

Zteve, not trying to stick my opinion into your questions, but the scrimmages I watched Caudle play in he was wildly inconsistent. He would throw one good pass to a receiver followed by two interceptions hitting defenders in stride. I think the coaches were afraid to put him into live games. Whether that was the right decision or not, who knows.

11:12 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I put the listed class/ht/wt in the spreadsheet too... OL is VERY thin, but mccain is the only senior

11:12 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

jhag, if I am Oku and I look at Cuse's class, I would have to just laugh. That isn't something that would really impress him.

Thanks depressed. I haven't seen any practices so I wouldn't have a clue. When he was recruited he was billed as the heir apparent to Todd. Then I wondered why Burns. I think they went after Burns hard after they saw how Caudle looked.

Blogger Miller said...

Miller, I don't think the receivers are bad. I think they have been coached very poorly. I read comments where the receivers said they never really understood the Borgess system. Once the Franklin Experience arrived, I don't think it got much better.

11:17 PM
Blogger Jet said...

It's late for a debate... but it's hard for me to see Caudle being a part of Auburn's plans, or even its future.

It's been since his junior year of high school since he's played any significant time in a football game.

He's had three significant injuries since his senior year of football. He would have to be heads and shoulders above what we have to invest the time to coach him up.

Statguy ...

Coach Chafin is a great man. I admire him greatly. He is a family friend. My mother and Mrs. Chafin were roommates (or suitemates) at Jax State, and Coach was there at the time.

My parents (both deceased) and the Chafins were dear friends. In fact, Coach had to perform the Heimlech manuever on my mother one night many years ago at the Green Lantern. Probably saved her life.

11:23 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

Zteve, I look forward to having an OC and a staff who are on the same page. Auburns offense has been such a mess, it has been hard to really determine how much of the problem is talent vs coaching. Malzahn is the real deal I believe, and a fresh look at using the players here the right way will be an immediate improvment. The question is how much of an improvment?

Hi Jet et al,

Re: Benton, I wouldn't count on him at all until he is actually in class. Will he qualify?

11:58 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Oku would have much more competition here than 'cuse, I suspect. Is he skeered of competition? If not, I can't see any reason he would choose 'cuse over AU/Malzahn.

No bias went into that opinion ;-)

I do agree about Caudle, Jet. It is ashame he never lived up to his billing, but you don't coach up an inexperienced QB for one season.

If Todd is healthy, I would love to see him start while we are developing the other QBs, but I really doubt his arm will be there.

If Todd isn't the starter, then it must be Kodi. He has experience, but definitely needs a lot of work.

Regardless, my biggest wish is to see us develop another QB other than these two, and I do not mean Caudle.

All the unrealistic expectationists come in here praising Friday and downplaying the accomplishments of Monday through Thursday.

But these unreasonable expectations lead to negative speculation against Friday, Saturday and Sunday when they inevitably fail.

It's delusional to think that Monday through Thursday are that bad, and that the weekend is really that good. You're just giving the PTB what they want when you feed these expectations because it keeps them in control.

Jet - you're living off of the good citizen's of Alabama's dime and clearly have been for far too long. As such; arriving to the office by 9ish, leaving said office by 4ish, frequent breaks, extra long lunches, and leaving early on Friday to get a headstart on the weekend, you're really only putting in about 10-12 hours worth of work during any given week.

So if the rest of us hard working, non-governmental employees want to rejoice that today marks the end of the traditional work week (though I'll still log in and put in several hours over the weekend), then you just leave us alone.
