Signing Day (early)

Hey everyone. I'm headed up to Auburn shortly and will get into the flow around 9 a.m.

I realize that some players (notably Dee Ford and Philip Lutzenkirchen) already have forwarded their paperwork to Auburn. Despite Fox News' reports to the contrary, the HABOTN is not in all places at all times.

See you in a bit.

Again, in case you missed it, here is a great link to follow recruiting.

I suggest having this in the tab next to the HABOTN for all your recruiting needs.

  9. Sensi-Nice site to follow.
Lookslike MOseley and Stallworth are in

    ReplyDelete
  10. I told y'all Jhag was right. He put it on HABOTN; that made it truth.

BTW, good morning to all HOTTIES from CHILLY and snowy Southern Pines.

    Scarbinsky lays the wood.

    LINK

    ReplyDelete
  12. Only if anyone in this world trusted me. Just kidding... War Eagle, Phillips is a huge blow considering David Oku is probaly waiting to see who gets the big lineman...

    ReplyDelete
  13. And this just in...Scarbinsky is a moron. Thank you. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Scarbinsky is just another reason I am happy to NOT live in the state of Alabama.

However, when we write out the tuition check for AUSon... not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Happy Recuiting Day to all! Let's get this show started.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jonathan Atchison to sign with tide...

    ReplyDelete
  17. It feels nice having Philip Lutzenkirchen all signed, sealed, delivered...he messed with my heart for awhile with facebook status like "Go Gators" this kid has stuck it at with Auburn through all the hard times.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Does there seem like larger than usual number of committed recruits are changing their minds and going elsewhere this year?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous8:13 AM

This was written in response to Scarbinsky's article:

"The only times that Auburn has been able to compete with Alabama for in-state talent are those times when both the Bama coaching staff was in turmoil and Auburn was on a high. In 2005 and 2006, the Bama fans only wanted one thing.....Shula gone. That environment caused a downturn in Bama's attraction and Auburn was able to somewhat compete, but it was not the blowout that dominating Bama for years and going undefeated in 2004 should have brought.

The truth is, Auburn will never be able to compete with Bama for in-state recruits. For one thing, the Alabama media will not allow it. When it gets truly competetive, the Alabama media will bash Auburn and poison the well to what ever extent is required to ensure Bama brings home the stars.

I don't know if Chizik and his staff know how to win football games. Only time will tell. But they do know that their bread won't be buttered in the state of Alabama. Going after out of state talent is the smartest thing the could do. Bama's media machine and their money will never allow Auburn to compete here. No matter. There is more talent in Texas, Georgia, and Florida than the state of Alabama will ever see."

I can't tell who this person is a fan of, but this type of attitude just infuriates me. There is no reason that Auburn can't compete in Alabama - unless someone is cheating. Sorry this is so long.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And this article was not the epitome of Auburn bashing?

    ReplyDelete
  21. jhag- not to worry about Lutz; back in December I was screaming GO GATORS at the top of my lungs. Lutz obviously knows how to be an Auburn fan!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous8:15 AM

I can't stand Scarbinsky. Just like I can't stand Finebaum.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous8:16 AM

    TarHeel, good point!

    ReplyDelete

    Best facilities- LSU

    Best stadium- Tennessee
    (Neyland Stadium)

    Best game-day atmosphere- LSU

Best chance to play as freshman- Arkansas

    Best uniforms- Georgia

    Best academics- Vanderbilt

    Best campus life- Ole Miss

    Most tradition- Alabama

Most likely to get players to NFL- Georgia

    Most exposure- Florida

    ReplyDelete
  25. Unfortunately I think there is a lot of truth in Scarbinsky's writing.

Yes, we can compete with Alabama, but they generally have the advantage in the state being the state named school and a long tradition and pipelines in a lot of schools that stretch back to far before most of us were even born. It takes a lot to put a wedge in those ties that were established long ago.

What it takes is winning and not just the Iron Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No TarHeel this was after a game in like november when Auburn was getting killed and Lutz took a visit to Florida, and got an offer. Different circumstances we are thinking of here.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Brandon Jacobs signed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous8:18 AM

Great points, RK. This has to be bigger than one game a year.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Even when we've been up and Alabama's been down, we haven't been overly dominant in the state. They always get their share no matter what their record is.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Another Brandon Jacobs has signed with Auburn. I hope this one doesn't end up at SIU.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous8:19 AM

8:18 a.m. Two more in for AuburnWireless updates available

Gordo (Ala.) ATH Izauea Lanier and Gainesville (Ga.) DL Josh Jackson have signed with Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous8:20 AM

Hopefully, Chizik and Co. can change that trend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hopefully this coaching staff doesn't tell this Brandon Jacobs that the only way he'll get to play is by playing DE.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like Izauea Lanier.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous8:22 AM

Kathy, what do you like about him?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous8:22 AM

Off to a staff meeting. Would some of you hit my work email if anything interesting happens.

    jbs0003@auburn.edu

    ReplyDelete
  37. Judging from the last several weeks, I expect recruiting will be a top priority for our coaches in 2010 and they will give Saban a fight. I've been impressed with them. Now let's see how they develop these players.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Two more are in:

ATH Izauea Lanier and DL Josh Jackson

I was hoping for better today, but it doesn't seem like it is going to be a great day, not that it was expected. Just hope to end up in the top 20, but that will be tough.

Next year should be much better.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Signed Letter Of Intent...
    Daren bates
    Dee Ford
    Eltoro Freeman
    Andre Harris
    Josh Jackson
    Brandon Jacobs
    Reggie Taylor
    Travante Stallworth
    Clint Moseley
    Izuaea Lanier
    Phillip Lutz
    Onterrio Mccalleb

So we've got these guys locked up!

    ReplyDelete
  40. RK, I agree with you but still think Scarbinksy is a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous8:24 AM

    Agreed, Kathy.

Where the heck are Monica and Mobile??

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yep the loss of Farms, Aubrey Phillips and Oku waiting till later..kinda killed my recruiting buzz

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous8:25 AM

Kristina, I'm with ya on that one!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Izauea Lanier - like his name, love his attitude!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lets' hope so Kathy...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Monica took today off, so maybe she overslept!

    ReplyDelete
  47. From 2005-2008 ESPNU ranks us 10th in recruiting...shocking

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tyrik Rollison has signed with Auburn.

    Good to have him in.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Monica is probably too busy keeping Rivals "The Wire" up to date. Rivals would be nothing without her.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Three 4 stars are in...I predict five more.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LB's and OL have to be top priority this coming year. I'm a bit disappointed with the LB recruiting this year. It was a very deep year for LB's and we seemed to not even care (previous staff at least).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous8:30 AM

Looks like Spurrier and USC could have a strong day.

How they recruit to the SC fairgrounds and that horrid stadium is a mystery to me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Rivals says we have 28 commits...jay said we had 21+2 juco's+ Josh hackson= 24

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Visor stole one from Pete Carroll. Highly rated WR from South Carolina committed to left coast USC since last summer, signed with the other USC today. Clerical error?
    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Andrew they have the ole ball coach

    ReplyDelete
  56. LB Jonathan Evans is in.

Should know something soon on Blake.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ...or Signing Day rather!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Stay tuned, guys and gals..... there will be a surprise soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. OK I'm stepping away to get coffee. When I get back, I want you to have Blake signed to AU!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Miller the previous staff was doing well at the LB spot.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I sure hope Tyrik qualifies, and then stays qualified.

I was always real lucky at standardized tests (I used "B" a lot), but I'm afraid I'm way past my prime. Anyone out there want to volunteer to give Tyrik a little help?

    ReplyDelete
  62. hehateme...how soon are we talking for this big surprise?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Aubrey Phillips signed w/FSU

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm not going to get any work done today

    ReplyDelete
  65. Unofficial- But TT website reporting Blake to Au!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Print edition of AJC referenced a study by a national news service about the accuracy of stars. Their conclusion - a little better than 50% accuracy.

As I've said before assigning a number of stars to a subjective evaluation doesn't make it objective or add any accuracy. It's still just an informed opinion.

I'd like to see a REAL study. A predictive model using speed, height, vertical jump, horizontal leap, and bench strength indicators indexed by position would be interesting. I'll bet it would be more accurate than stars.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Mac, no work for me either...

    Kristina, by noon.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I hope you are right Eddie!

    ReplyDelete
  69. You mean we may have a WR that is over 6 feet tall? I don't believe you.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Anonymous8:41 AM

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd like to wish everyone a very merry "Get a Life Day!"

And I mean that...I really do.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mobilz - You look AUsome!
I couldn't wear a tee to work, but I am wearing an Auburn shirt and AU boxers in honor of this "game day". oops, was that tmi?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Morning Hotties,

Happy NSD. Let The Chiz clean up!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Patdye, I'm using the Rivals link that sensi put up in post 4

    ReplyDelete
  82. Of course, the boxers are covered by pants.

    ReplyDelete
  83. John Sullen is in. Everyone is saying Blake to AU, but still waiting on NLOI.

    ReplyDelete
  84. AUnugget, make sure you don't jumble those words!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Should we roll Toomer's now?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Tana Patrick to announce at 11 and Brandon Moore at 12. If they decide to PLAY at AU instead of ride the bench at UA-T, I promise I'll wet myself.

    ReplyDelete
  89. 15 huh? at least 10 to 15 more spots left....

    ReplyDelete
  90. hahate,

    good call.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Auburn's Rivals site is saying Blake has committed to anyone yet, but the national board along with several others are saying it's Auburn. Stay tuned on this.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Morning all.

Can't believe I'll be spending my day breathlessly anticipating the decisions of 17 year old kids.

    What's next, Oprah?

    ReplyDelete
  93. I swear I saw the Rivals Wire announce "Blake to AU" but now it's gone!!???

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yepp, everyone is now backing off the Emory Blake story. That is why I listed it as unofficial until the LOI is in.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Flesh- you're absolutely correct. Emory Blake to Auburn has been erased!?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Me too Comm'r. What's up with Blake?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think the Blake story is kida like listening to rock albums backwards...

    ReplyDelete
  98. I agree comm'r. This is really sad. I feel like someone should be filming me for an episode of intervention.

"I don't need help! I can handle this myself! It's not a problem"

Will, if you don't get off the HABOTN, our relationship will change in the following ways.

    ReplyDelete
  99. THT, I wouldn't get your hopes up about both Patrick and Moore, especially the latter. Disappointment awaits you there.

I don't understand the lack of OL committments to us though. Great chance for early playing time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Barkevious Mingo picks LSU over UA-T. I love that name. Can't read it without thoughts of Ed Ames.
I wish AU's cup would runneth over.
(I'm sure that made no sense to you youngsters)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Is this part of Pavlov's theory, we are all staring at the ticker...or wire

    ReplyDelete
  102. THT,
Just trying to get good Karma going!!!!!
I do look good the the H.A.B.O.T.N. Tee don't I!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Flesh- I have no hope for either, hence the empty promise of wetting myself.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm all jacked up on M'tn Dew!!! I won't last long if these guys start switching on us this morning....

    ReplyDelete
  105. I think the big recruits are just waiting on Jay to get to Auburn before they send in their faxes! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Comm'r I have a feeling with lack of OL committs, some of the guys on the DL will be getting the Tyrone Green treatment and getting looks at OL..

    ReplyDelete
  107. Look, I know you guys have recruited me hard, but I am going to have to sign with AL.com in a signing day shocker. War Gold Mine!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I played a Fine Young Cannibal song backwards and swear it said "Don't hire Tony Franklin whatever you do!!"

Always suspected Tubs had bad choice in music.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Re: Mingo, does anyone remember the Tonight Show episode where Ed Ames threw an tomahawk at a wouldn't figure? That was SO funny.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I like Sullen: "Even if he weren't a talented football player, Sullen could have likely gotten in the old-fashioned way. Sullen carries a 3.4 GPA, scored a 28 on his ACT and will major in mechanical or wireless engineering."

    ReplyDelete
  111. Michael,

We pulled your offer when you visited rivals.com. You of all people should have learned from the BC coaching situation.

    ReplyDelete
  112. THT, I remember that! I've got th "Best of Johnny Carson" on DVD and that episode is on it. Funny stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I know, Ron. I'm just trying to save some face here. Thanks a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  114. PatDye: I think you're right on about that.

And if either T.Patrick or Moore sign with AU, I promise to wet all over Harrison.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Emory Blake? Really? Don't phunk with my heart people!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. AU UC sayd Blake is ready to come to AU!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Ok guys,
now i got to go to the bathroom with all this "wet myself talk"

    BRB gotta go!!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'll go outside and make yellow snow in front of everyone.

    ...And then get fired.

    ReplyDelete
  119. A little info on 2* DT Josh Johnson. He played for my Alma Mater, the Gainesville High Red Elephants (dont laugh it's embarrassing enough). They had an outstanding team this year with their only loss against Caver (Columbus, GA) in the playoffs. He was probably the best D player on the team but their offense was scary good because of the QB and WRs who will be SRs next year.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I've always heard it's better to be p'd off than p'd on.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Emory Blake ready to come to Auburn:

    ReplyDelete
  124. espn: Biggest surprise recruiting team
recruiting director for espn. said if anyone had told him this team that needs a QB could go out to texas and bring in a top name he wouldn't believe it.

Au fans should be happy with what CGC has done in a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Alright whats the talley...

    ReplyDelete
  126. Brice Brown is undecided....

    ReplyDelete
  127. Mobile Boys should be announcing any minute now....T Coleman, Fairley (he does have to sign again) I am waiting to hear to make sure all goes good.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Blake is the first...
    THT - yes!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Can we strike up the band now?

    ReplyDelete
  136. I am looking at Jay's "recruiting opus" post, and Blake falls withing the "Issue 2" group, and Jay thinks a reasonable goal is to get 25% of those guys. Well, there are ten recruits listed there, so the question is who are the other 1.5 people we might get from that group? I am thinking maybe Dontae Aycock and David Oku's lower body to get to 25%.

Hearing Blake is in is the best I've felt on NSD in a few years! Good job chizzle! A real..live..playmaker!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Blake + Rollison = two bona fide stars to CGC's first AU class. Plus, they never considered AU until the new coaching staff arrived.

Just a tremendous job by the coaches coming in late and under difficult circumstances!

Everything else now is just gravy!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Michael - does it have to be upper or lower? Can't it be left or right side?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Emory Blake has signed with Auburn. So has Anthony Gulley.

    There you go.

I want 1/2 of Patrick just to piss bama off :).

    ReplyDelete
  142. I'm gonna have a 'possum eating grin on my face for the rest of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  143. A WR who's father is a former NFL QB! Can you ask for a better set of circumstances for your playmaker?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Michael, Will, Harrison, Flesh/Walks, Jet etc...- if and when y'all show up at a HABOTN union I have no doubt I won't be able to breathe from laughing so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Blake and Rollison both good pickups! Great job coaches. We've gotten several good players.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Not necessarily AU related... But, did I just hear correctly that Pat Patterson signed with Miss St?
    Umm - shocker?

    ReplyDelete
  147. No Oku news today, so who is left in the "surprise" category that Auburn could reasonably get?

    ReplyDelete
  148. gatiger: you really don't know which part of the body will commit. That's what makes signing day so fun!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Nevermind... Radio guy in the gump on 740 doesn't know his Mississippi schools.

    ReplyDelete
  150. HOW ABOUT THIS:

    *****Deangelo Benton... signs with AUBURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  154. Could it be? I'm hearing that it is!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Benton is huge. Rumor is Aycock has signed also, waiting on confirmation!
