Brad Lester speaks
Hey everyone. As part of our continuing coverage of Auburn's Pro Day festivities, let's take a gander at tailback Brad Lester.
(He's a man so fast my camera can't catch him.)
Height: 5-9
Weight: 190
40 time: 4.48 sec
Vertical: 38.5 inches
Broad jump: 10-foot-4
Bench press: 18 reps of 225 pounds
I thought he looked pretty good at the event. He's clearly in shape and focused on marketing himself. That's a change, at least in my mind, because I didn't think he played very hard last season. Injuries were an issue. Still, Lester's poor senior season went beyond physical problems.
He seemed listless to me during the season's second half. I didn't get that sense Thursday.
Here's what he had to say:
On a surprising weight-lifting performance: ``Actually, when I was working out all offseason on it, I was getting like 22, 23. I guess since we did it at the end of workouts today it was hard to get as many, but it was still a good amount."
On people watching him so closely at the event: ``For a lot of guys it’s tough but I came in with the mindset that once I start my drills, block everybody out and just focus on myself and just do the best that I can."
On being anxious: ``I was really nervous. I actually threw up like two or three times before I got here. I was pretty nervous but once I got started and ran my 40, I was alright."
On not being an anxious person by nature: ``It actually surprised me. I couldn’t sleep most of last night and then woke up throwing up this morning. I was surprised myself, but I still came out and performed well and that’s all that mattered."
On how important Pro Day was for him: ``That’s why it was so important and I guess it’s why I was so nervous because I knew how much today could help me potentially get drafted."
On his performance: ``Yeah, I feel like I did pretty well and set myself with a chance to get drafted by somebody."
On his 40 time: ``I felt very comfortable. I used the techniques that I was taught all offseason and I thought today was very productive overall."
On if he'll be drafted: ``I’m pretty confident I will. If I don’t, it’s just going to motivate me to work harder as a free agent and try to get on somebody’s team in mini-camp. But I’m hoping to be drafted."
On where he's working out: ``I was in Atlanta, but I moved up to New Jersey with Joe DeFranco. It’s me, (USC linebacker) Brian Cushing and Tony Fiametta, the fullback from Syracuse. We’re all working together."
(He's a man so fast my camera can't catch him.)

Andrew are you a Brit?
Do you guys remember that Bama cheerleader dude that was interviewed at a game that had went to Auburn and was an auburn fan. then Bama kicked him off the squad. Stay Classy Bama!
i was thinking about that when i was reading the article Harrison. it didn't help the guy's cause that Adrian Karsten was interviewing him on ESPN saying both WDE & RT.
I guess that was stupid of him. A fan of both teams makes me sicker/madder than anything. I just vomited in my mouth
Never found my HD Raycom broadcast last night. What a bummer.
I realllly wish I could live blog this AU-UF game from the house tonight. Sadly, I have to take call-ins. They usually slow around 9:30, though, so maybe we can work the second half.
Blogging from the kitchen table should be the ultimate sports-writer indignity. I'll take those lemons and make lemonade!
better yet, Italian Limoncello
Maybe I'm the dumb guy here, but what are call-ins?
I say four football players -- maybe Ziemba, A.C. (kinda of a We Are the World moment), Eltoro and Hot -- drive onto the playing field at Plainsman Park during a game, drag Sanders' @$$ off the diamond, toss him in the trunk and drive him to Tuscaloosa and sling him out at the base of Denny Chimes.
Heed the Good Book: A little leaven spoils the whole barrel.
when guys like me call in their high school scores to the papers
Negative. Not a Brit. Just enjoy that word every now and again.
A few of my friends are Kiwis and I picked it up from them several years ago.
Harrison ... there are handfuls of high school baseball, softball, soccer scores "called in" each night to get their scores in the paper.
To wit:
Harrison scored 17 goals, punched the officials, stripped for the cheerleaders and sold hot dogs at halftime as Harrison Tech defeated Michael State 17-0 in a soccer game here Friday night.
Someone had to call that in to the paper, and some poor schmo had to pick up the phone and take down the info.
I say sanders on a stick is called for! This agression will not stand man , it will not stand .
I think Joe Sanders needs professional help, but there's no way I'd hate him. He's an Auburn student, is a HUGE part of the current Auburn baseball team. and has enough respect to not desecrate the hallowed grounds of the Plains with his ugly bammer gear. Yeah, he needs help overcoming the brainwashing his daddy gave him, but I can't hate an Auburn athlete.
Morning HOTTIES!
What's on Tap for today?
Jay....Of course the game blog would be better with your insight, but we'll survive....you've taught us well. There are several BBall Hotties that can provide good insight in your stead.
I made the mistake of turning to the 'Cuse-UConn game whilst prepping for bed and ended up watching the last 4 OTs. The Big East teams have instinctive BBall skills that are not so prevalent in the SEC. Kinda like a Pro Baseball infielder compared to a litle league infielder. The SEC BBall athletes are impressive.
Mobilz......I think the word for the day is HATAGATA.
we didn't have any HD for yesterday's SEC games but we will today! yahoo!
ouch call-ins sounds like it sucks. Are they from any ole' redneck? cause that could be interersting at least.
Go Harrison Tech, although Jet there is no soccer at Harrison Tech. Only real sports. (no offense to soccer fans)
Bammers = self-induced arrogance, borne of ignorance
Gay-tors = pure arrogance. The kind that needs to be beat out of them.
PF and Wake....I lived in So Fla for 3 years, so I'm with ya...
i'm looking forward to the UK-LSU game coming up in an hour. GO CATS!
Got You HOOPIE!
Go AU beat the Crockadles!!!
who is streaming the video of the games today online? anyone have a link? if it's on cbssports.com i'm missing it. secsports.com has audio only.
Hoopie, glad to have you on board.
Sleeping last night was an utter failure, was up till 5 A.M. I blame the excitement of the 'Cuse game. I was supposed to take a very important test today for my career field this morning, opted to wait two weeks rather than take it on 2 hours of sleep.
I had a friend at Auburn who had grown up a infidel. We all accepted him as one of our own and thought he had seen the faults of his uprising. It broke my heart when his dad came to town and he wanted to know if we knew which bar would be playing the Bama game so he and his dad could watch.
Sorry for the tears guys, I still get a little emotional.
Every baseball team in the SEC has several players that cheer for a different team than their own for football. I don't like it but thems the facts.
I can understand why the kid would still play for AU baseball but love UA football... My son is on his way to playing college baseball and he is Dyehard Auburn fan but if UA wants him and AU doesn't We will be at the Auburn football games cheering but have to cheer for that other team in the spring.... it would be hard to say the least but would do it...
No SEC games were on my cable last night and I assume the same for tonight. ESPN 360 will have the game for those that can get it.
ESPN 360 is the reason Comcast is no longer in my house. It is a perk like none other, that and all those free ATT hotspots.
we have Comcast internet so we can't get ESPN.360. it stinks.
Scottie, I'd seriously take a look at the ATT DSL. Where I am it's faster than the Comcast cable, it's cheaper and you get the perks of ESPN 360 and access to the hotspots.
Weed is the Answer for California Economy?
Too funny not to share on a Friday.
i have comcast out here with espn gameplan. i'm getting the games. i don't know how fast att is, i run at 100mbps and it seems pretty fast to me.
thanks Seanzie, not a bad idea.
here in Knoxville if you have Comcast you can't access ESPN360. i've tried but it's blocked. stupid monopoly.
Anybody that lives in Auburn on here have satellite tv/net??
Game face activated. SUIT UP HOTTIES!
Yes, it is HATAGATA Day!
Scottie B ... I disagree ... Go LSU! Corndogs for all!
We need chalk ... not upsets. We need UK out of the picture.
If TurboProp were to suffer Traumatic Brain Injury, and for some reason wanted to go to UAT to play something or do something, well, I'd miss not seeing the boy again.
So far UK is looking silly and that is not good for Captain Bill.
I am really bothered bythe black uniforms worn by UK, UF,NY Met and other teams who's colors do not involve black.
Jet, i'm slightly torn. i went to grad school at UK. watched a lot of game up at Rupp Arena during the Tayshaun Prince years.
it won't break my heart if they lose but i can't cheer for them to lose. that make sense?
those black jerseys are repulsive. i agree.
Peter F ... adding black as an alternative color is an abomination before me.
Jet,
Wouldn't Turbo Prop have a hard time playing the drums at UAT with broken hands?
Scottie ...
Choose this day whom ye shall serve.
You cannot have two masters.
What $#%#$%#$ hands, J-Z?
Nice...hard to be rhythmic with nubs.
Jet, my master is clad in orange and blue. let there be no doubt!
UNC/ Vtech shaping up for a good finish. Tech by 1 under a minute
UNC by 1 31 secs. VTech timeout.
Will the threadkiller strikes again.
stop the madness Will!!!!!!!!
GOOD VATECH LOST
Yup the last thing AU needs to some stupid ACC cinderella champ
Glad to see the officials step in and, ahem, swallow their whistles.
Hey gang! What's happening?!
Good day for AU's dancing hopes today...Va Tech lost, Minneosta lost, both legit bubble teams.. ESPN's Joe Lunardi who predicted all 65 teams corrected last year (look it up if you don't beleive me)
He says the winner of UF/AU game goes to the NCAA's
Ok, that's two comments from two different sites I've seen about the officials giving UNC the game. Conspiracy?
Lunardi does a lot of changing his mind in the run up to selection day, no?
Geaux Tigers.....ugh, I feel so dirty
This game is on the other side of the bracket, I'm not too concerned with it, if we have to play either we will already be in the NCAA tournament.
Jay, I know you write stories and stuff but what happened to your OCD on not allowing the thread to get over 200 comments..I mean I am currently unemployed so all I have to do is stalk the HABOTN and you ain't got a new thread up yet...shameless..love your work tho man..
pf ... UNC up one in the final second with a foul to give. VT throws the ball into the lane to their scorer, 3 guys jump on him with 4 seconds to go to burn the sixth foul.
The call? Held ball. UNC possession. Seth Greenberg was about to have a stroke.
hmmm..conspiracy for sho..
Maybe UNC is just that good. Did ya ever think about that?
Michael,
Thinking is out of the question.
Seth Greenberg seems like a pretty laid back, level headed fella.
Just another note on last nights game, Syracuse shot 23 of 26 from the free throw line.
I have watched Auburn Basketball all season, so naturally I think that is impossible.
Will,
Seth is ... in a myocardial infarction about to happen kinda way.
Jet, you are just a mucubial dilentrum.
But don't get all aploctic about it.
Best prank ever: From the old sitcom Just Shoot Me. The ditzy drunk character had a "Word of the Day" calendar, which she worked into conversations each day. The David Spade character and the photog figured this out, and made a fake calendar with made-up words. Hilarity ensues.
Anybody got a UK/LSU score update they'd like to share? Thanks.
Which is worse Greenberg or Gus Johnson?
Corndogs 60, Billy "Get out of Your Dreams, Get into Your Movin' Van" Gillipsie 51 with 1:25 to go.
D Miller -- LUS up 10 late
speaking of pranks, did you see the on online about the guy who "made" the half court shot blindfolded for $500,000? it was payback for a prank he played on his buddy.
Yeah that prank was legendary.
LUS = LSU ; I always feel like the king of typos on HABOTN
GOODBYE Kentucky
Corndogs 67
Where is Tubby? 58
Will. that may be the greatest prank of all time. There is on on you tube where some guys taped the previous days lottery drawing, then bought those numbers and gave it to a guy and replayed the tape and he thought he had won the lottery. It was spectacular
UK fans are starting to miss Tubby.
Look up "Prank Wars" on college humor. That is where the half court shot came from. The proposal at Yankee Stadium is incredible also.
I remember when Kentucky was good.
it was me JG. the decline started when i finished grad school.
kentucky's shame is my shame.
Isn't Monica a big fan of that Mad Money guy? Does she know Jon Stewart has been trashing him mercilessly?

I also lived in KY when i was a young lad. I used to like UK basketball, but it is ruined now.
I lived in KY for a couple of days. A guy bet me I couldn't live in the stuff for a week. I was in deep KY too; I had to breathe through the straw. Anyway, I gave up after two days, and I was going to have to give the guy my dirt bike. Luckily, his principle, Mr Belding, walked up and heard about the bet, and he gave the guy detention and I got to keep my dirt bike. It was awesome!
