Look at how few and far between the posts were last winter in the link posted, the blog has come a LONG way in a year.

Jay, at least Tampa is a place people like to come for vacation. If your a hoops fan it could be somewhere you want to come see some games played and make it a vacation as well. Little Rock? Really? What was the thought process behind that?

  40. Morning Hotties - working for the man and his expectations have kept me from the fray here a bit this week and most of next week too. Just plain exhausted kept me from the campfire. Dang. I suck.

Wes - good luck, I'm not really sure you should take Michael's approach in this particular case. In virtually everything else though I'd agree with Michael.

I can't do campfires (I esp. couldn't do it last night 'cause I'm in bed at 9:00) because there's too many people all trying to talk at once. It's too confusing! Sounds like they ran the gamut of topics, though!

    ReplyDelete
  47. sorry i missed it. i just couldn't stay up last nite when i got home. sad times man. sad times.

on another note, how about our baseball Tigers? they've won what, 10, 11 games in a row now? not too bad. the weather up here in Knoxville is NOT looking good to host baseball this weekend. highs in the low 50's & 70% chance of rain. hopefully they can get them in.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I went to bed with a headche, and woke up without one. It's a miracle!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dang it, I missed another one! Sorry hotties! Much love tho!

    ReplyDelete
  52. JG, I want to second your WTF on the location of the two tourneys. Who made this call and what was behind it? I am 102% sure it was financially driven. The closest school to Tampa is UF and it is still a good 2 hrs away. No other school is anywhere near.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Here's a few mileages from SEC schools to Tampa:
    Arkansas - 1,152
    Kentucky - 837
    Ole Miss - 784
    LSU - 710
    Tennessee - 667
    Auburn -

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's just silly.

I'm sure the SEC made these decisions based on cash money, the guaranteed-money deals local groups forge with the league, but this is the year it falls apart.

Attendance in Little Rock was horrible. I anticipate weak numbers in Tampa and the SEC has to look in the mirror for answers.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So how bad does attendance have to be at a women's basketball tournament to be considered "horrible"? Was it just family members and media there, and maybe a elementary school class that got free tickets?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Well, women's tournaments in Nashville generally draw pretty well. Vanderbilt and Tennessee generally play well there and, in turn, their fans show love.

You go to Little Rock, Arkansas sucks, Arkansas loses in the first round ... and it devolves from there.

    ReplyDelete
  57. What if they held the tournament at the A-Rack on Adams Avenue/Mt. Meigs Road and Hall Street by Houston Hill Junior High?

    Make the coaches stay away.

    He cut me off.

"Don't worry about that. I'm not hatin' on you. You've got me on the phone now, so it's all the same."

I thank him at the end.

    "No problemo. Stash that cash."

  67. Luv,
Didn't mean the entire bammerham, just the BJCC....

I guess i should have clarified that huh?

    ReplyDelete
  68. The SEC needs to make a statement with their tourney locations, and the statement should be that it "feels our pain" and is "down" with the little guy and the times. Enough of this regional burgeois bias!

Next year, the choices should be Detroit and Stockton, the two most miserable cities in the US (according to Forbes). Come on Slive & Co., show us you got a pair!

"Detroit in the top spot, with its sister city Flint ranked third, is probably not a great shock. "If Detroit were a baseball team, we'd say they are mired in a slump," says Sperling....

Crime and unemployment are closely linked, according to Sperling. Our three most miserable places bear that out (Stockton, Calif., ranks second). All three are among the eight worst cities in terms of both unemployment and violent crime."

I know if the Women's Tourney had been closer, I'd have been there for the whole thing. But, I've driven to Arkansas for a football game and it's a very, very long drive.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous9:50 AM

You're right, though, Mobilz - the BJCC is a dump.

One of your favorites? Really? Thanks!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's not the BJCC that's so bad -- it's the parking (lack of), surrounding neighborhood, lack of restaurants/hotels around it....once you're in the building its a nice facility (for basketball at least)

    ReplyDelete
  74. The women's tournament ought to be played in Nashville, Knoxville or Chattanooga every year until it proves it can sustain itself elsewhere. There are two programs that significantly support women's hoops, and they are in Tennessee.

As for the men, I am glad it's not in the Dome every year, but I understand the transportation/logistical convenience of the Dome.

Tampa, which paid for this, is clearly too far away. It's 150 miles from the southern most school in the league. In terms of access and logstics, the rotation of Nashville, ATL, New Orleans makes sense. Nowhere else does.

    ReplyDelete
  75. There's a reason the Big East Tournament is held in MSG every year!!!

    Location.... location....location!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Good morning hotties enjoyed my first campfire chat. I don't know which is worse too slow typing or too slow thinking. Both get you in trouble in a chat room or campfire side. It was fun reading most of it. The SEC gets started todnight and I hope Fla. wins. Don't pull for the gatorhaters often.

And how does ol' Langford think the city is going to be able to support a dome???

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous10:14 AM

digger, why FL? Wouldn't Auburn have a better chance against Arkansas?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't understand New Orleans, honestly, in the "make it central". Its not quite as inconvenient as Tampa, but it's not exactly central. A long drive from the entire east division, and not a short drive from most of the west.

If the argument is, "We just love New Orleans", that's different.

...and yes, I realize that, compared to Tampa and Little Rock, it's a shorter trip, but that doesn't make it close to everything.

I think Tampa could be a good destination. Big SEC fanbase in Florida in general. It's a good time of year to travel there. Lots to do away from the arena. Good beaches. It just needs to be marketed. I don't see a lot of marketing in SEC events, though, they are just expected to sell themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Luv,

    ah, I see...thanks, Cap'n!

    ReplyDelete
  83. The SEC tourney should be held in Rupp every year. That's the only place that consistently sells out games in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Luv, a win over Fl looks much better on our tourney resume then a win over Arkansas.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Purely selfish, I hope AR beats UF.

    A) I hate UF.

    B) It'll bring black market ticket prices for session 4 down to about 20 bucks.

    ReplyDelete
  86. ROF Nominee all up in this bitch. Respect, yo.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes we definitely need Florida to win to have a shot at making the tournament, on the flip side, if Arky wins the road to the title and an automatic bid are that much closer. Just win.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Luv, I had to leave for a while but you got the answer from several others. We need to play and win against the better rated team.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hate i missed the fire but a new sushi place was calling mine and the wifeys name. It was awesome, though, had a war eagle roll, tuna cream cheese and grilled jalapenos, i tried it, it was tasty.

  92. The SEC women's tournament was held here in Greenville a couple of years ago. I didn't understand then or now. The folks from USC and Columbia don't seem to do much in basketball.

Knoxville is only 4 hours away but still... the rest of the schools had significant driving to do.
