Hey everyone. Welcome to Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, where your Auburn Tigers are playing UT-Martin. This is the first round of NIT play.
- FINAL
Auburn wins, 87-82.
- FOURTH TO @ 2:59, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 76-69. The Tigers have missed their last four free throws, surprising noone. Were it not for some questionable shots on UTM's part, you know, I think they'd be ahead. Hudson is so good off the dribble, but he's in love with the guarded 23-foot jumper.
- THIRD TO @ 7:37, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 73-63. Hudson is a real problem for the Tigers, which had to be expected. He has 24 right now. He's basically the only guy making things happen for his ballclub, but Auburn seems awkward on offense right now. I can't really discern a plan.
- FIRST TO @ 15:14, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 56-50. The Tigers are getting lax on the defensive end. Hudson is eating them alive. He breaks away off the dribble and, with a pick, Auburn can't hang with him. I'm surprised Barber isn't more of an offensive factor. He looks out of place with these thin dudes from UTM.
- HALFTIME
Auburn leads, 46-35. The Tigers lost sight of Hudson there for a moment and he scored eight points. With a quickness. Auburn still is in command of this game, but the momentum changed during the final three minutes of the half.
- FOURTH TO @ 3:37, 1st
Auburn leads, 39-22. Larry Williams Jr., the walk-on point guard, is in the game with more than two minutes remaining. Robertson has eight points. I feel like we're in an alternate universe.
- THIRD TO @ 6:12, 1st
Auburn leads, 37-19. The Tigers are unusually accurate from three-point range tonight. Team already has seven threes. It's a mess out there -- UTM just fires away from outside and doesn't hit much. I don't see much creativity.
- UTM TO @ 10:31, 1st
Auburn leads, 26-15. Best minute of Auburn basketball this season. Two Brendon Knox free throws, steal, dunk by Frankie Sullivan, UTM miss, Barrett jumper, UTM miss, Robertson three. TIMEOUT.
- SECOND TO @ 11:40, 1st
Auburn leads, 17-15. Seems like the Tigers' defense has slacked a bit. Hudson is very fast off the dribble. Robertson will be in good position -- and he's a pretty god defender -- and Hudson will effortlessly pass by. Hudson now is 2-for-5 with four points. Barber and Waller each have two fouls.
- FIRST TO @ 15:31, 1st
Auburn leads, 11-4. Lester Hudson, UTM's top player, is 1-for-4 with two points so far. Looks like Quantez Robertson drew that assignment.
- YOUR AUBURN STARTERS
PG -- Speed Reed, not Shoot Reed
SG -- Tez Robertson, boyfriend of Sherell Hobbs
SF -- Tay Waller aka The Streak
"PF" -- Rasheem Barrett, sporting a new shave on his head
C -- Korvotney Barber, player
- Tipoff scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
- Crowd better than I expected. It's probably in the 4,000 range.
- UT-Martin's uniforms look similar to Auburn's, though they are manufactured by Nike.
YES!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteis Barrett rockin' the orange long sleeve compression tonite? it's sweet.
ReplyDeleteFlop!
ReplyDeleteBarrett has short sleeves on tonight.
ReplyDeleteFT shooting machines!!
ReplyDeleteFrankie with the Spankie!
ReplyDeleteThat was a nutty minute right there.
ReplyDeleteanyone know where i can stream/ listen to the game?
ReplyDeleteWhistle happy
ReplyDeleteAuburn ahead 32-17, 8:20 to go in first half.
ReplyDeleteDon't wake up, Tez
ReplyDelete35-17
ReplyDelete37-19
ReplyDeleteis it a team effort so far or are 1 or 2 guys taking over?
ReplyDeleteLarry "Ollie" Williams, jr. in the game
ReplyDeletehas he played one minute in 2009? if so i missed it.
ReplyDeletego Larry go!
Evening folks. Just checked into the hotel in beautiful Ellensburg, WA (sarcastic tone should be inferred). War Eagle to all. I've been travelling and swamped the last little bit so I don't know if this has been posted before, but I just came across this item -
ReplyDelete1...2345
39-22, 3:37 before halftime.
ReplyDeleteThanks for tuning in, gatiger.
ReplyDeleteTez with a 3 point play, old school -- wild.
ReplyDeleteMore sloppy play by hargrove. Lebo get him out.
ReplyDeleteBy the way iPhone typing is hard on the blog
ReplyDelete46-35 at half.
ReplyDeleteLets blow em out
ReplyDeleteboosh, sure wish the game was on some tv, 99 georgia vs clemson is on , good game.
ReplyDeleteLet the party begin.
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle!!!
didn't make it to the game. made it to the HABOTN, though, which is just as good.
ReplyDeleteWow, Auburn Baseball won today 18-4...guess they didn't much like 13 innings yesterday against an inferior opponent.
ReplyDeletethanks for the baseball update PF. i had forgotten to check. nice win. how many HR's?
ReplyDeleteKeke Carrier is mammoth.
ReplyDelete6 More Ding Dongs..46 total now! I'm amazed.
ReplyDeleteJay G,
ReplyDeleteHas anyone on the beat written a story yet about the amazing ding dongs?
The goofiest looking player on the team "Freshman Dan Gamache, making his first career start, smoked a 2-2 pitch out to right in his first at bat of the game for a second-inning solo home run and finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a walk, a sacrifice bunt, two runs scored and two RBI."
ReplyDeleteGood job freshman.
Seriously, though, check out that mugg. Kid is by far the goofiest ball player at Auburn.
When do we play Ole Miss or LSU in baseball that will be good tests
ReplyDeleteSo spring practice starts tuesday of next week, right? Can't. Flippin. Wait.
ReplyDeleteWhat up guys and gals?
ReplyDeleteThere isn't really time to write about baseball right now.
ReplyDelete56-48 now, 16:29 to go.
ReplyDeleteOkay, enough baseball from me, lest I get attacked for not staying on topic (cough shesaidenny cough :-) ).
ReplyDeleteI'll be in attendance for NIT action Friday for certain if the Tigers win today. Gonna spend the night in the Gump that night either way.
C'mon Auburn ... Buckle down
ReplyDeleteDon't mean to get ahead of ourselves, but when is the third round? I'm not getting back to Auburn until Saturday.
ReplyDeleteMojo went to get a hot dog.
ReplyDeletetoo close for comfort, au. stretch it out a bit you war d**m eagles!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to wander off topic. I don't mind. We do that most of the time, right?
ReplyDeleteHow we lookin Mr. Tate?
ReplyDeleteI mean, I think Auburn is going to win the game. The team is not looking all that good at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThis Hudson guy from UTM is the truth, I say.
speaking of the spring football, what exactly is the date for the A-Day game? I should know this but I've been out of the loop lately. My wife just gave birth to our first child on Saturday. So, in Feb. of 2027, I'm predicting he'll be at least a 4 star signing with AU!!!
ReplyDeleteSponge in the house. How is the atmosphere in Tiger Town?
ReplyDeletemy best friend's b'day is 6-26. got tickets to clapton/winwood that night. he'll be proud.
ReplyDeleteVot goes to the ATM for a free throw!
ReplyDeleteApril 18th I believe...
ReplyDeleteThose fortunate ones at the game are obviously not screaming loud enough.
ReplyDeleteWho lives in a pineapple under the sea?
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but anybody hearing more and more about UAT NCAA investigation. Again I say, it's a coming.
ReplyDeleteSpongie squarepants.
ReplyDeleteThat dude's goatee needs its own jersey and number.
ReplyDelete66-53, 11:39 to go.
ReplyDeletespongebob squarepants is eerily like a puppet, but with too many holes. frightening, to those of us abused by puppets in our past.
ReplyDeleteI like the guy in the mohawk, No. 15. He's got pizazz.
ReplyDeletebeginning to pull away. tulsa up next?
ReplyDeletemohawks and gottees? this ain't yo daddy's basketball!
ReplyDeleteToo many holes?
ReplyDeleteHe's porous.
expression never changes...just like those puppets. Must be thinging the same thing, all the time...Like. I hate bama. Looks like AU starting to take control.
ReplyDeleteI'm hungry, did JGT say that #15 has pizza?
ReplyDeleteOK, who is better:
ReplyDeleteSpongebob Squarepants
or
Rocko
Man. That hudson has range.
ReplyDeleteWe can't win multiple games this way.
ReplyDeleteJay is right -- Lester Hudson is nastier than chest congestion.
Off topic again, but I understand Chizik said privately that AU may get Oku and Brown....That we were in really good shape for Oku, and had a chance for Brown. Then UT gets them both...Whaaat. Wonder wassup w/that.
ReplyDelete73-63, 7:37
ReplyDeleteBecause I think we were led on to beleive that SPONGEY.
ReplyDeleteJet, Jay. This is Lebo's best shooting team. With Sullivan, Waller, Reed and others back, we should be ok. Jay, have you seen the two transfers? What do they look like?
ReplyDeleteI can neither confirm or deny that Chizik said anything to me about Oku or Brown.
ReplyDeleteSo is Florida really losing?
ReplyDeletejhag.. Love it when someone SHOUTS my name. Makes me feel all soft and pourus.
ReplyDeleteBarrett down. Play has stopped. Looks like a shoulder or elbow injury.
ReplyDeletegosh, I fogot about the transfers. Isn't one tall?
ReplyDeleteLeft shoulder.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't look good at all.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you're right in that future games will be televised.
ReplyDeletePeter, I think one was a point guard. Don't know about the other. I'll check.
ReplyDelete73-67
ReplyDeleteIsn't one of the transfers from Indiana?
ReplyDeleteuh-oh. come on Rasheem!
ReplyDeleteI saw the OU transfer, Nesmith, a few weeks ago in practice. He looks like Tay Waller physically. Not sure what he can do on the court.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about the kid from IU.
Peter, 6'7" power forward and 6'5 point guard.
ReplyDeletenope. that's not tall. I demand tall transfers!
ReplyDeleteWe're in trouble
ReplyDelete76-69, 4:00 to go
ReplyDeleteInjuries at this point in the season are UNACCEPTABLE!
ReplyDeleteBaskets are more important than highlights, Frankie.
ReplyDeleteTall... Whats that. I don't think Lebo is spending enough money for tall.
ReplyDeleteUF is not losing.
ReplyDeletebring it, auburn!
ReplyDeletehargrove!
ReplyDeleteHargrove plays big sometimes. He's really made some key playes this year.
ReplyDeleteHargrove is so erratic, though.
ReplyDeleteHe would drive me batty as a coach.
here come the free throws
ReplyDeleteover 2 minutes without scoring?
ReplyDelete77-72, 1:33 remaining, Auburn possession.
ReplyDeleteAuburn has scored four points in the last 6:59.
ReplyDelete2 for 2 would have been good. then the 3. criminy.
ReplyDeleteBarrett back in the game.
ReplyDeleteHargrove would be so much better if he focused.
ReplyDeleteAgree Jay, but this year is the first in memory that Lebo has had someone that will take/and make key shots with the game on the line. Hargrove usually best at end of game, snakes in the head in the middle of the game
ReplyDeleteReed hit a floater, bumps it to 79-72.
ReplyDeletewe called time our?
ReplyDeleteToo close for comfort.
ReplyDeleteSweet alley-oop: 12 to 23. Boom.
ReplyDeletewe win!
ReplyDeleteHow many points does Hudson have?
ReplyDeleteWere there fancy player intros for this game? Someone told me that there are some strange NIT rules on home-court advantages.
ReplyDeleteHudson has at least 30.
ReplyDeleteHudson has 30.
ReplyDeletecan't hit a free throw
ReplyDeleteMan. Hope the new recruits can shoot free throws.
ReplyDelete82-77, :39 to go, Auburn possession.
ReplyDeleteAuburn has hit 2 of its last 8 free throws.
ReplyDeleteI was fortunate(?) enough to see three Auburn NIT games during my time there.
ReplyDeleteLost to Marquette in '95 @ BEMC
Lost to Tulane in '96 @ BEMC
Beat S. Miss in '98 @ BEMC only to lose to Marquette again in 2nd round
reckon UT will foul? Duhhhh.
ReplyDeleteOur idea of a kill shot is a noogie.
ReplyDeleteehyou. That says a lot about AU basketball, when it's fortunate to see an NIT game.
ReplyDeleteThree NIT games in four years, a testament to basketball mediocrity.
ReplyDelete83-79, :22 remaining, Reed at the line for two.
ReplyDeleteGlad I didn't get to watch this one.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the SEC (statistically) best D?
84-79, :07 remaining, Robertson at the line for two.
ReplyDeleteAnd we got tired of Sonny Smith?
ReplyDeletewe win without freethrows. should have been worse.
ReplyDeletehudson rocks.
ReplyDeleteCollective SIGH....All that matters is moving on, baby.
ReplyDeletemake it...
ReplyDeleteWasn't pretty, but I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a wrap.
ReplyDelete87-82.
yeah!
ReplyDeleteWe can't say it enough.....thanks again JGT.
ReplyDeleteJust saw a Hooters basketball commercial. How do they make those things look so hot? ;<)
ReplyDeleteMoving on.Maybe I'll see some of you hotties Friday. I'll definitely be at the game.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteBaseball wins today, basketball wins today... Good Day!
I may have to make the trip over on Saturday and try to catch the baseball game and the basketball game.
Judge Smales is mad as hell that we didn't cover the spread!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hanging with the HABOTN.
ReplyDeleteI just got my first two Twitters, Super-Sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteWill students be back for the Tulsa game?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay for your efforts. War damn eagle. Stay tuned. Tide will roll...down the bowl.... coming soon to a paper near you.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you following....other than HABOTN, ehyou?
ReplyDeleteby the way...for you blackberry users out there... Pandora radio just went live for the blackberry today... it works very well!
ReplyDeletehooray for winning. nice work. nite nite hotties. safe trip back to the gump JGT.
ReplyDeleteIt was both HABOTN Twitters, I hadn't checked my phone in a while.
ReplyDeleteThanks D Miller, I will be checking out Pandora.
10:30's bedtime here in GA. G'Night all.
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle
I Hate Bama
It sure is strange to see Auburn winning at basketball. I assume this means that Jet hasn't got close to the Lebo band wagon.
ReplyDeleteJust in from the basketball game. It was a strange game, it seemed like AU had the superior team but never could put UTC away. Hudson is the real deal. He could score from most anywhere it seemed. Ran his mouth a lot too, but I guess that's not out of the ordinary. Barrett really struggled shooting the ball before his injury, it seemed to me. I don't keep a book, not sure on his numbers. K Barber started, but it seemed like he sat out the majority of the first half. I thought he had only one foul, but maybe it was more than that. On a bright note, the 3-pt shooting seemed to be much improved. Better crowd than I expected, all things considered. I suspect it will take a better performance to win Friday, hopefully this was an eye-opener for the team. Sorry to ramble on, War Eagle to all the Hotties!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who we play next??
ReplyDelete"Twitter" is creepy and means I can't be by myself and must have "Major" issues with disconnect. Sorry, but people need to learn how to deal without the technology nipple to coddle. Gag.......
ReplyDeleteI think Tulsa is next, I'm not sure though.
ReplyDeleteNice coverage tonight, Jay.
Baylor beats Georgetown, good good.
ReplyDeleteTwitter. I am drinking water now.
ReplyDeleteTwitter. I am watching tv now.
Twitter. I just crossed my legs.
Twitter. I just ate some candy.
I'm pretty sure that I don't need to know what people are doing every second of their lives.
Twitter. I just twittered.
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from all new technology fads (like Twitter), because I like to talk about how I don't need them and they are a waste of time and such. It makes me feel superior. That's why I take time to comment on an online sports blog so that everyone knows how I feel.
ReplyDeleteDepressed ...
ReplyDeleteBarber picked up two quick fouls and never got in the swing. Their big guys got in foul trouble, and he never took advantage.
Our FT shooting was great, then it was atrocious.
We picked odd times to get out of control, and relied way too much on the 3.
So, no, Steve-o, I'm not on the Lebo Bandwagon in my attempt to will this team to MSG (Madison Square Garden). Unfortunately, they be more likely to go to Monosodium Glutamate.
that sucks, i really wanted us to play georgetown
ReplyDeleteHere are some things I heard at the game in the scholly room.
ReplyDeleteThe kid that UGA let go yesterday either hit or pushed a teacher down in the classroom. He is a good player but not needed if that is true.
Two different people said that Oku has nto signed with TN. He committed but has notsent his papers in yet. Not sure I believe that but that he was still interested in talking to AU.
Bbal team should have won by 12 to14. Sloppy defensed at stages, just like during the season. They settle too much for the j when they could have gone to low post and let vot control. Their big man got his 4th fould and we decided to start shooting 3's on the next 5-6 possesions.
i will see you guys on friday.
WTC ...
ReplyDeleteDidn't get in the gym soon enough to come visit, but I did see you across the floor.
Your analysis of the game is dead on. I turned to my brother and said, "It's Vot time" when their big guys had four fouls each. And it never came.
What is the collegeinsider.com tournament? I had forgotten, but been reminded of the CBI, but the CIT?!!?
Why don't we have a fundraising tournament called the HABOTN Classic for the remaining shmo teams that don't qualify for a post-season tournament?
We could use the funds to pay for a tailgate, or maybe buy the naming rights for the new arena.
HABOTN Arena -- The Hate Dome
BigEZ, why not disconnect the internet altogether? Read Ivanhoe again. It's more enriching, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteAuburn v. Tulsa, 7 p.m. Friday.
Be there (or here) or be rectangular.
I like the HABOTN Classic idea.
ReplyDeleteWe could pit Georgia v. Central Florida at the Bell Road Y. It would draw tens of fans and pay for our beer.
Good morning, Hotties, and Happy Day Before Friday (although, it is Friday for me!)!!
ReplyDeleteFrom the sounds of it, the men are going to need to perform a lot better tomorrow night.
Good Morning Luv, and everyone else too!!
ReplyDeleteSurvive & Advance, the name of the game.
Hi, ehyou! Survive is definitely what they did last night.
ReplyDeleteWhere is This Woman's Sign?
ReplyDeleteLuv, that story reminds me of a part in a Cheech & Chong movie. It wasn't money that was recovered though.
ReplyDelete"I had to follow him around
ReplyDeletewith a little baggie for three days
before I got it back. Really blew
the dog's mind."
AU vs. Tulsa. i like it. JGT, be honest.......you want 'us' to win, right? :)
ReplyDeletemorning hottness. the madness begins today. looking forward to incorrectly picking half of my bracket. ausome. come on Memphis & Syracuse!!!!!!!!!!
Morning Hotties - War Eagle, nice win last night. Today is the last full day in Washington for gatiger. A long flight early tomorrow awaits, and many many chores on tap for the weekend since the cub is at his grandparents. There's my update and you're better for it aren't you?
ReplyDeleteAfter filling out my HABOTN bracket last night (and many others), I am confident I will not win. I have been doing bracket pools for years and years and have NEVER won one.
ReplyDeleteScottie, I have Memphis and OK in the Championship game. I'm sure I incorrectly guessed at more than half of my bracket!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad our boys won last night -- although giving up 82 points doesn't seem very inspired. Tulsa is a good team and we'll have to play better. They've got a very good and tall inside player that my limit Vot on the glass. We'll have our hands full tomorrow night.
ReplyDeleteNo tv again Friday night Jay, what is up with that. I guess we wont get respect until we win the next game. WDE
ReplyDeleteHarrison - I'm right there with you - I've been competing in bracket pools for 15 years. I did win one my senior year of high school. I fill out 4 or 5 and they're all basically the same - how dumb is that?
ReplyDeletesuper dumb hornet, but I do the same. I am in 4 pools, and have only 2 different N.C.'s. Why not 4? Cause I ain't bright.
ReplyDeleteyou don't win brackets by picking the upsets in the first two rounds - you win by having the most elite 8 and final four teams - then the champ
ReplyDeletebut it is fun to pick those upsets
Jet's Friendly Hints to Winning a Bracket Pool:
ReplyDelete5. Pick the team with more intimidating uniforms.
4. The coach that sweats more profusely is likely to lose.
3. Inanimate mascots are three times more likely to beat animates, except when the animates are top 3 seeds.
2. Pick all 16 seeds -- it's bound to happen soon.
1. Have Judy from accounting who doesn't understand "why they bounce the ball when they could run much faster holding onto it" make all your picks.
Jet, #1 almost made me spit my water on the monitor!! LOL
ReplyDeletegood tips Jet. The guy that won our office pool last year doesn't watch any basketball, I'm positive he will win again.
ReplyDeleteGaTiger ...
ReplyDeletePlease note the "Speaker" of the moment in the chair presiding over the House for that fine example of frontier gibberish was the Gentleman from Montgomery, Mr. Bright.
Last friendly tip ... if you are in doubt, guess which team Samuel L. Jackson would be pulling for, and pick them. Everyone loves Samuel L.
"Pick my #$%$%#$%#$ team in this @#$%##@#$ tournament!"
Luv,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the genesis for the No. 1 tip is a quote from Mrs. Jet regarding basketball. In 1988 March Madness, I obtained for her a second row seat for Auburn's first-round game against Bradley at the razed Omni in Atlanta.
Most exciting game I ever saw -- back and forth with Auburn's Chris Morris and Bradley's Hersey Hawkins going crazy. Auburn stole the ball and dunked it at the buzzer to win 95-91. I asked her breathlessly after it was over, "What did you think?"
And you know her response.
And that's when you thought with an audible groan, "Why didn't I bring gatiger?" ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe last two games our defense has completely disappeared, hopefully it will return vs Tulsa.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much has to, doesn't it, WarEagleRK?
ReplyDelete*IT OOPS
ReplyDeleteRK ...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely ... you can't give up 80, miss 14 free throws and win consistently. Plus, we're not going to make 14 3s every night.
We were foul happy in the first half, too. On the positive side, we're not going to play a better player than Lester Hudson.
You would think. I thought maybe the UT game was a fluke, because they were hitting everything they threw up.
ReplyDeleteWhile I didn't get to watch last night, apparently they weren't spirited in their efforts from all I have heard.
However on a good note, at least I have two half days of work today and tomorrow. Yes, I scheduled the afternoons off to watch the tourney.
