Women's tournament draws near

Hey everyone. I'll be heading up to Auburn in a bit to watch the women's NCAA Tournament selection show with coach Nell Fortner et al.

ESPN.com currently has the Tigers (29-3) as a No. 2 seed playing at Rutgers. Yes, Rutgers is in the tournament. I doubt Fortner would consider that a friendly pairing, but the Scarlet Knights haven't been all that good this season.

(ESPN.com is very accurate when it comes to seedings, but somewhat inaccurate when it comes to sites. They have Vanderbilt playing in Chattanooga and no SEC team playing in north Atlanta.)

Anyway...

The selection show begins at 6 p.m. I'll be updating as the day progresses.

  3. How many of you all would travel to Piscataway, N.J., to watch Auburn play this weekend?

    (Crickets.)

  4. Let's hope they are way off on the site accuracy for teams. That's bananas that they would make them travel all that way.

I had great intentions of making the trip wherever they got their bid, but if it's NJ, count me out.

  5. it appears that eddie gran had a lot to do with b. brown going to ut. things that make you go hmmmm.

  6. will joe piscopo be there? (nj)

    ReplyDelete
  7. When Phil Hartman was killed, wasn't Piscopo killed, too? No? Guess not. Only seemed that way.

    ReplyDelete
  8. piscopo suffered a career ending injury when eddie murphy left snl.

  9. Bryce Brown picked UT, if anyone cares.

  10. Man, I get super bummed when the women's bball threads get hijacked.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I really hope Auburn ends up in Chattanooga.

  12. I could manage "The Nooga" but New Jersey is waaay too far.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have to work this weekend. Otherwise, I would not be going to NJ. Although the thought of a side trip for a Philly cheesesteak at Geno's or Pat's is appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nope. I am not going to NJ again anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Brown and Oku at UT?!?!?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  16. ok, back to AU basketball now. Why on earth would they send Auburn up to NJ? That makes zero sense.

  17. NJ started off in this country a very nice state with very nice people, where did it go wrong, what caused NJ to become a toxic waste dump and to be made fun of by the whole country. When it was one of the original 13 states it had so much promise, so much to give, and not things have turned horribly wrong........And I agree with Shesaid, this is a GD basketball thread, I don't give a GD about football players that Tn signs, go somewhere else on that one.

  19. 'Like Brown's entire recruitment, Monday's announcement was full of suspense and some drama. It started 10 minutes late and Brown pulled out a Miami hat that he had been seen wearing Sunday and Monday.

But as it appeared he might be saying he was a Hurricane, Brown turned and handed the hat to his older brother Arthur Brown and donned a Tennessee hat declaring he was a Vol."

He says Kansas State finished 2nd

  20. Denny, NJ is what it is. You can spruce it up with deodorants and perfumes and such, but you can't change the fact that it's an armpit.

  21. Well to all those mad at me for "hijacking" the thread, my apologies, I just assumed it was routine to post in the most recent thread.

New Jersey sucks, have been once, I don't plan on going back. I hope the AU Women end up in Atlanta, I'd like to head out and cheer them to victory.

  22. HABOTN threads don't really get hijacked. They are all a hodgepodge of many different topics. When does anyone ever go back and find an older thread more appropriate to what they want to talk about? Just free flow it, there is plenty of room. After all, there isn't even a thread dedicated to puppets. What would HABOTN be like without puppet talk?

  23. I'm not mad, Seanzie. I just don't get nearly enough opportunities to talk women's bball (even though it would be never without Mister Jay G. Tate).

I'll talk football any day but I get exceptionally excited when one of AU's women's teams is doing well and I get to talk about that on my favorite blog.

  24. Shesaid, was not referring to you necessarily. I just hadn't seen it anywhere and figured since it had been a much discussed topic around here I would throw it up there.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Shesaid, you did say you were "super bummed." You know what I say to that? Turn that frown upside down! There, did that fix it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. What do you guys think about the BC head coaching situation?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Michael, you've outdone yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's impressive, because myself was already pretty done.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous4:54 PM

I almost asked you Michael your thoughts on that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well you should have asked. My heart is an open book.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks Michael. I feel much better. Wait, maybe that's because I'm leaving work now....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Are there really complaints here about not enough women's bball talk? Seriously? Go find the HAWBBOTN and get back to us (hint: it doesn't exist elsewhere, cause you're already here, football talk and all).

Bryce Brown and Lane Kiffin are a match made in heaven. May complete the demise of UT together!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd rather go to Little Rock to watch the ladies, and G-d knows I ain't going(/didn't go) there.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dang, Frankenbummer is angry. Perhaps it is more Frankenbitter today.

    ReplyDelete
  35. All Bryce Brown, All The Time.

    ReplyDelete
  36. b. brown did come across as just a tad egoistic. can he deliver? for shesaid: go lady tigers!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bryce Brown is a moron, and I hope that Tennessee fails miserably in all their future efforts. Man, UT is so annoying right now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. oh, and Go Lady Tigers!

    ReplyDelete
  39. oh, and Go Gentlemen Tigers! Win the losers bracket!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Michael,

Do you know what.....Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.....

I thought you would like to know that. Since you are a daydream believer and all, I think that you know, as that poet and Auburn Grad Toni Tenille said, that love will keep us together.

    ReplyDelete
  41. for a second there, i thought coach crum was gonna go all "muskrat love" on us. whew!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm guessing since Lane Kiffin can't keep his mouth shut, and since Doug Dickey isn't here covering things up, the NCAA might finally get something to stick there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. NJ is a little over 4 hrs for me but I'm really too busy this weekend. I hope they're closer to home where they can get more support.

    ReplyDelete
  44. lots of people here at buffalo connection. Maybe 500.

    ReplyDelete
  45. ten minutes in ... And not a single bracket. Someone needs to be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  46. if they are going to be a 2 seed anyway, i hope they come out west.

    ReplyDelete
  47. auburn a 2 seed at rutgers. Playing Saturday vs. Lehigh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. so why does the higher seed travel?

    ReplyDelete
  49. ahhhh, houndstooth. someone shoot that woman.

    ReplyDelete
  50. because the higher seed didn't put in to host, scott.

    ReplyDelete
  51. houndstooth--sign of the coming apocalypse.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Jay G, what was the crowd's reaction to the bracket?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is Saban heading up the investigation into Kiffin & Co.?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Leigh is only playing an hour away from home. They'll probably have a good crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The NCAA craps on Auburn any time they can. A 2 seed going to the front yard of a no seed. Just unbelieveable.
