Getting back in gear

Hey everyone. It's been a few days, I know. It happens sometimes.

GAZING INTO THE DISTANCE: Thanks, as always, for making the HABOTN one of your stops on the Interwebs. As Auburn's athletic season winds down and there is less SUBSTANCE to what I can write here on a daily basis, I'm open to ideas about what we can do for the next two months or so.

I plan on doing player-by-player scouting reports on the team's top 25 players as we get into late June and July. Until then, though, it's all negotiable.

A-DAY THOUGHTS: I haven't had a chance to talk with coaches about how things went Saturday. While I believe Neil Caudle has a real shot at this job, his superior performance at A-Day doesn't change much. This is at least a two-player race and, in my opinion, will remain that way until late August. Don't yet forget about Chris Todd.

I was interested to hear that Mario Fannin played wideout last weekend. He's been discussed as this hybrid player, but I think Onterio McCalebb is the preferred player for that role. When McCalebb told me last week that nobody else was being groomed for a TB/WR role, I figured something was up.

BASEBALL LOSES TWO AT USC:
Auburn (25-15, 8-10) played well at times, but again struggled on Sunday because of pitching problems. The bottom line is that a third weekend starter doesn't exist. Grant Dayton is consistently good and Jon Luke Jacobs oscillates between good and below average. Without a third guy, though, the Tigers will struggle to finish .500 in the league.

WOMEN'S GOLF WINS THE SECs: It was Auburn's seventh league crown. The Tigers opened the final day three strokes back, but pulled away with an eight-stroke win. Arkansas and Alabama finished second. Auburn, currently ranked No. 6, will play in the NCAAs beginning May 7.

  1. Very nice work there.

Post has been up a matter of seconds ...

  2. Just waiting on my daily dose JGT. Thanks.

  3. Eddie,

Stan White was a redshirt freshman in 1990 when he started...however he did play like a true freshman in 91 and 92, so maybe that's why you thought he might have been a true freshman when he played.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Countdown of top Auburn moments since Jay has been covering the team. That could be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I thought so RK, but wasn't sure. I can't think of a real significant True Freshan in a passing offense that has stepped in and started for Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Eddie,

I can't either. There haven't been a lot of redshirt freshmen that have stepped up as a quality starter at Auburn over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Not that it matters, what was the final score that they came up with for A-Day?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Good to have you back JGT. Looking forward to you comments after you talk to the coaches, if you get that oportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ugh it's going to be slow the next couple of months.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Did not know that about the Women's Golf program. Congrats ladies and good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love that some of our sports are out there kicking butt and taking names...War Eagle kids!

    ReplyDelete
  12. It really is going to be slow for a while.

There were times last summer when I just stopped blogging. I'd like to avoid that this summer, but making that happen means things could get more tangential than usual at times.

Some people like to complain about that. If you're one of those people, it's time for you to go back to watching Jeopardy! reruns.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You're in luck, Jay! Tangerines are my favorite fruit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. There is nothing I hate more than conversations going off topic.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Michael, what's the latest on the Boston College coaching situation?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Michael..
What's your take on the movement to banish Comic Sans type font?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think if the BC coach had laid out his plans for the New York Jets in comic sans font, things would be a lot different today for all of us.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous12:21 PM

What if Tony Franklin had printed the playbook in Comic Sans?

    ReplyDelete
  19. There was no need to ever print the Tony Franklin playbook. Remember, there were only 3 or 4 plays. It was a simple offense.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous12:23 PM

    That was further simplified.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It really was 4 plays. Mesh, stick, shallow and the zone read and different variations thereof.

    ReplyDelete
  22. what is Franklin doing now? besides the AU paid vacation...

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's at MTSU "coaching offense."

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous12:29 PM

The better question might be what is the xBC coach doing these days.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous12:30 PM

Jeff Jagodzinski is the OC for the Tampa Bay Bucs.

    ReplyDelete
  26. jay,

will todd be back in the qb mix in the fall or is he sol ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jay,
Thanks for mentioning the Women's Golf Team. I mentioned it last night and got no response. I like to talk about football but it's nice to recognize the other sports that the students work hard in.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous12:37 PM

Doug is drinking the AU kool-aid. Bit of a surprise, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous12:37 PM

I'll stick with my 4-5 wins prediction until (hopefully) proven wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If Jay doesn't have anything to cover....what in the world is the roundtable going to talk about?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. a.) I hate comic sans. I wish it would go away forever.

b.) I think Chris Todd's judgment day hasn't yet arrived.

c.) I need to do a story on Tony Franklin.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous12:43 PM

How does the team react to Todd? Is he working hard, or simply in rehab mode? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can't listen to the Roundtable if Jay G isn't on it.

The last time I listened was a couple of weeks ago and we got play by play of fans putting.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous12:46 PM

Mr. U is on the line. Switch over while you still have a chance to avoid the Monica-obsession from the fetal position peanut butter lover.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So what's transcrip of today's script...errr call by Mr. U?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jay G, how about a "Where are they now?" piece on a former AU player. We could poll the HOTTIES and see whom everyone would like to catch up with.

    ReplyDelete
  37. going off topic is fun. How many different ways can we say Kodi hasn't put it all together yet

    ReplyDelete
  38. Harrison, I think Kodi has all of the (insert buzz word here), but for some reason he just can't seem to (insert awkard sports themed metaphor here). Would you agree?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous12:57 PM

    Mr. United spewed:

    - something something about how the callers aren't up to his level

    - something something about not liking Playboy

    - something something about bimbos

    - something something about time machines

    - something something about a beatdown between IMan/Rusty and Charles

    - something something about cooking chicken and Mrs. U

    - something something about the Braves choking

    - something something about McElroy is "blowing up bigger" than Tracy Rocker at a buffet table

    - something something else stupid

    - something something props.

Finally, they went to a break.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hmm interesting script.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I couldn't agree more Will.
i think everyone should fill in that sentence and see what we get

    ReplyDelete
  42. does this "U" fella not have a job?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous12:59 PM

Back to work for me, Hotties. Lunch is over.

    ReplyDelete
  44. glad you're back JGT. happy 4/20.

"roll it up, light it up, smoke it up, inhale....exhale......."

    ReplyDelete
  45. I just want the hosts to interrupt his reading of his call and get him off topic and see if he still has the same cadence and same wit.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think Kodi has good command of his ball but for some reason he just can't seem to hit the right spots.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Guys, I think Kodi has all of the tangibles, but for some reason he just can't seem to put the chimpanzee in the oven. Would you agree?

    ReplyDelete
  48. mmmmmm baked monkey

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous1:12 PM

    Afternoon hotties!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous1:15 PM

Was that not the fastest A-day game in history. Felt like I just sat down when the game ended...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous1:16 PM

Cory, I wasn't there, but I did watch it on t.v. and thought the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd like some in depth baseball coverage with lots of opinions backed by obscure stats.....no really.

How about having a really random interview where you just ask movie questions to a really random person once a week.

Athlete profiles and recruiting info from some of the more less covered sports. Look at the womens basketball interest you generate. Imagine if you brought the girls soccer team into our lives by introducing us to the players. Or how exciting it would be to dig up info on the latest 100 meter breaststroke phenom from Greece that Auburn is interested in.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What's up with all of the dead ponies at that polo match in Palm Beach? 30 dead horses? Craziness.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the idea of blogs on the players. That would be pretty cool.

Also, more details on the backgrounds of the coaches would also be interesting. Roof is probably the one I am least comfortable with at the moment. This is only a feeling I get from watching his interviews and not based in fact.

As for the QB race, I think it is clear that Caudle is #1 and Kodi #2 at the moment. I get this from listening to how each talks about what has occurred and the fact that Kodi was a vastly more experienced QB than Caudle, but somehow couldn't beat him out. Caudle wasn't who I considered Kodi's main competition. I now I have my first guess at the QB pecking order next season.

    1) Caudle
    2) Todd
    3) Kodi

Should Todd's arm not be good to go, I can see it like this.

    1) Caudle
    2) Kodi
    3) Tyrik

These are my impressions and shouldn't be confused with reality.

    ReplyDelete
  55. reality is generally more confusing than the delusional world i tend to inhabit.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous1:44 PM

There will be no reality to the Qb pecking order until shortly before the first game in the Fall.....or at least that is what CGC said during the halftime interview. I realize that CGM said that he would like to go into the Fall with a clear #1, but I will defer to the HC statement and not speculate further.

NOTE: That last sentence will cause grammer geeks real problems, but it was designed that way on purpose...so there!

    ReplyDelete
  57. The HC might as well speak in Haiku and Limericks, there will be nothing definite said from his mouth. The only time you will see anything one way or another will be on paper or with your own eyes at the game.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wonder if profiles on our opponents for the upcoming season might be good. Doing one per week and having a heated discussion of how we will do might be interesting. Some kind of friday football fight might be nice. We can just go ahead and figure out all the winners and losers for this coming season and save on player injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wartiger,

I'll be at the race Sunday. Look for me with a "HABOTN love No.18" sign.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We could also have a contest to see who could come up with the best analog of the Franklin Experience to the stock market. Something like, geeze, that stock went down quicker than a Franklin linemen, or perhaps that rally was shorter than a Chris Todd pass.

    ReplyDelete
  61. how about a AU record/score challenge like the ncaa bball challenge? pick the record and score of each game before the season opener. the person with the most accurate record and smallest point differential in the games they miss wins a prize (like paying for jgt's lunch).

jgt would not be eligible as the bball challenge was obviously an inside job. i don't want him calling his friends vinnie and bruno to mess with the outcome my AU football season so he can win again.

jay, have you received your bracket challenge championship HABOTN shirt? would you be willing to model it via live webcast?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Even with a bum shoulder, Todd was as good as Kodi last year and I agree, if his surgery is successful, he will be competitive. On Saturday, Kodi looked like the same old Kodi...passes into the dirt or behind receivers and into coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  63. A weekly Hugh Nall update might be nice too. Something like this week Hugh Nall scheduled another shipment of ACME widgets to the ....

    ReplyDelete
  64. If Todd's arm is healthy, he will likely be the starter by the end of the season. This is assuming that something doesn't click in Kodi's head. I think Kodi has the most room for improvement. More than likely Caudle will start the season and Todd will get be the backup.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wonder how much Nall's company was hurt by the peanut scandle and subsequent plant closing.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would also like to see a list of all the players we lost after CTT jumped ship. This would be both committed recruits and players. Some players transferred. Some just quit. And some turned pro.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Glad you're back JGT. I visit your site everyday and on my phone when I'm not online.
Question: How do you keep the RNAF's off your blog? It's refreshing not to have to wade through their useless comments.
    WDE

    ReplyDelete
  68. Some who said it blogs might also be interesting. For instance, who said that "having two QBs is a good problem to have".

    ReplyDelete
  69. During the off season I would like to see more indepth coverage of our baseball team. JMO

    ReplyDelete
  70. who said it is a dumb trivia exercise and an even dumber blog topic.

    ReplyDelete
  71. the evidence supporting long term global warming is as shaky as the evidence against. Al Gore needs to come out and call himself a dumbass.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'll do some stuff with the baseball team, sure, but that only lasts another few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  73. usually shorter than that for Auburn baseball lately

    ReplyDelete
  74. Where are they now is interesting too, although I don't mean recent coaches. A good list to go from would be All Americans of the last few decades.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I see on Undercover where Lutzenkirchen says he will play some h-back and slot receiver. I find that very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  76. my ten minutes of al.com has ended and I forgot to directly call anyone an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I find it interesting that anyone reads anything besides the HABOTN.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Steve, H-Back is traditionally a TE position. This role was especially prominent on the old Washington Redskins offense. I think it'd be a great spot for him to cut his teeth.

  80. High guys how is everyone?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Was the 45,000+ crowd Saturday an A-Day record?

    ReplyDelete
  82. What up hag. You catch anything spear-fishing over the weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yea, from what I have read, the A-Day attendance was an all time record.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I was watching Legally Blond 2 this past weekend and heard the "I'm just a bill" song from Schoolhouse Rock being played in the background in one scene.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Steve,

    Today's QB Carousel is

    Neil
    Chris
    Kodi

    right?

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm trying to figure out how I can make that into either a betting or drinking game.

    ReplyDelete
  87. PF..
Is life that bad? Legally Blond 2? Come on man.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Legally Blond 2 tells you more about the Boston College coaching situation than you can shake a stick at.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I don't remember the particulars, but I think I had just returned from the beach, flipped on the tv, sat on the couch, and was too lazy to walk back across the room to get the remote.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Plus, you really dig the Legally Blond series.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I could stare at Reese Witherspoon for about 90 minutes and have no apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  92. That, too.

I secretly envy Bridget Marquardt and her more realistic Elle Woods lifestyle.

    ReplyDelete
  93. It's a scientific marvel that Reese Witherspoon is attractive with that large of a forehead.

    ReplyDelete
  94. You guys must check this out:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYkw-5htPw0

    ReplyDelete
  95. I guess I shouldn't cast stones. I watched Euro Trip from start to finish a little while back.

When it was over I asked "Did I just do that?"

    ReplyDelete
  96. Eurotrip is another 90 minutes of mindless escapsim, I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. you guys seen Idiocracy. awesome, just the dumbest movie ever and I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I like Nick Cage. He's bizzare enough to be interesting, but not so far out there to be unwatchable.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Harrison, I too am a big fan of Idiocracy.

I'm kind of meh on Nick Cage. It just depends on which movie it is.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hannah Montana: The Movie has garnered a staggering 2.6/10 user rating on IMDB. It must be epic.

    ReplyDelete
  101. so ehyou, what did you think of the Hannah Montana video, we all know you saw it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. More epic: Faceoff or City of Angels?

    ReplyDelete
  103. I had a bootleg copy before it even hit the theaters.

    ReplyDelete
  104. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  105. City of Angels is in my top 5 Life Wasters. Faceoff, eh not good but not terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Peter, that is the order I see coming out of the fall. Todd hasn't even practiced so is nowhere on the depth chart at the moment. At the moment it is #1 Neil, #2 Kodi in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Idiocracy is great, but the real question is how close is it to reality?

    ReplyDelete
  108. PF..
OK, point taken. Nick Cage has been in some of the worst movies known to man.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Steve, what are you doing bringing up Auburn sports on an Auburn sports blog?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Steve, the answer is too close.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Michael, Where's you 10 minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  112. I am back from the Legislator course at RTJ Capitol Hill.

When you play as infrequently as I do, the goal is to break 100.

I did it with a personal best.

It only took me 13 holes.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Look at Nic Cage's Wickerman highlights on youtube... he is simply horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  114. You talkin bout TMOA? We can start it now Frankenbummer.

You guys are a bunch of idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  115. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yall are bammers.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Face/Off at least lended its name to a great rollercoaster at Kings Island. That was the only way I knew that movie existed.

Now that Paramount no longer is invested in Kings Island, the coaster is called Invertigo.

    I prefer syrup. I mean, Face/Off.

  119. How do you feel about Oracle spending big CASH bucks on Sun Microsystems, which has been hemorrhaging billions of dollars lately?

    ReplyDelete
  120. I did have a comment about the Barn, but couldn't make myself pull the trigger. Not even in jest.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I prefer the term Bambi, although technically it is a term referencing the appearance of Brody Croyle during an Iron Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Peter, it is a matter of perspective. If you are a SUN stock holder, it was a wonderful idea. If you are an Oracle stock holder, you might have a different viewpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Peter, did you scab my pic of Uncle Jethro?

    ReplyDelete
  124. On the upside, SUN has the coolest logo, so at least the Oracle stock holders can hang their hat on that.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I love this guy on CNBC. "Allen Stanford has set out to defraud no one". Yea, just cut off the last couple of words Leno, and you got your clip.

    ReplyDelete
  126. All 800 people who use Sun computers will tell you they are superior. So they got that going for them.

    ReplyDelete
  127. There are Sun computers? I didn't know they did anything but build Java, then fail to update and support it correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Sun also has a cool version of unix. They are just having issues. Java is no longer what it use to be.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Luv - how was the golf game

Topics? Hopefully we won't get started with the BC coaching situation. A few months is just not enough time to cover it properly. Maybe if NCAA gives AU the death penalty for such a poor attempt at impersonating a football team last year, then we'll have time.

I like the "where are they now?" idea. Let's start with David Campbell.

Or maybe we could do a "where are they buried?" on deceased AU players from days long past. Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  130. SteveFC,

I think Auburn Engineering used to use that on their server. Solaris, right?

    ReplyDelete
  131. They used to have a Sun computer lab at school. No one ever used it. It was eventually changed to a Microsoft lab.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I've seen a Sun workstation.

I was jealous. Talk about some real computing power...

    ReplyDelete
  133. I could surf the Rock Band forums for HOURS without a single crash.

    ReplyDelete
  134. When I went to GA Tech, the SUN lab was always full. When I went to Auburn, it was always empty.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I just started toying with the concept of switching to a fully portable unix/linux OS. Tons of options out there. It's been interesting, so far, to see what's available, and how it all works.

    ReplyDelete
  136. is this Michael's gibberish blog now? cause that what you guys are speaking.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Jay G, for just over two times what your macbook pro cost, you could be living that dream.

    ReplyDelete
  138. The Sun computers at Auburn were pretty old, and they took forever to load up. Maybe they would have caught on more at AU if they didn't suck.

    ReplyDelete
  139. actually, not even that much.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I use to be an admin on a Sun network. It isn't something I am going to look to do again.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Harrison, certainly you must have an opinion on the Sun acquisition and its close relation to the BC coaching situation.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Sun in sky
    Fish in the sea
If you don't know my name
    Don't speak to me.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Peter, I only use linux. It works well for me.

    ReplyDelete
  144. PeterF, did you ever get to the point of using NASTRAN on Sun computers? That is enough to turn you off to Sun.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Computer talk! Hey-oh!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Michael, working with anything written in Fortan is enough to turn you off to technology in general, much less a single OS. I couldn't believe that it was still in use when I got to college.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Ah, Fortran. Thanks for bringing back the wonderful memories. I remember clearly Fortran programmers explaining to me how they could do anything in Fortran that I could do in C. I still giggle over that one a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  148. So, in Legally Blonde 2, I think they got the senator from Alabama right.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Boston College coach?

    Kodi vs. Todd?

    Tuberville's fault vs. Franklin's fault

    Speculate or not?

    Tate vs. Fannin?

Puppets? Bears? Nicholas Cage movies other than Raising Arizona?

Please, Lord, anything but computer geeky talk.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Believe it or not, it is still used quite regularly in the aerospace industry. As far as it comparing to C, I think the later versions can do pretty much the same things. But aerospace is the only industry that uses it still to my knowledge.

I am proud to say I took the last fortran class Auburn offered. When the computer department stopped offering it, the aerospace department got mad and now makes aerospace students take a fortran tutorial taught by an aerospace TA.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Jay G,

any chance you can interview Tubs's mom this summer. On anything. Football, cooking, Jay Jacobs, old people's right to drive. I think it would be riveting.

    ReplyDelete
  152. If Kodi Burns were a programming language, he would be python. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  153. Tuberville and Franklin's fault. As for Todd versus Kodi, until Todd can throw a football, Kodi is the choice. I'll take Tate over Fannin any day. Yea, Fannin might make a big play more frequently, but Tate is a very consistent player.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Fannin over Tate. Steve, you are a moron.

Oh wait, TMOA is over. Nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Saying that you can do anything in fortran that you can do in C is like saying I can get anywhere on my bicycle that you can get in your car.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Harrison, there's a bear behind you.

I, too, took Fortran the last semester it was offered at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I will say this: we really have no idea who the RB should be this year. Last year, the O line fell apart every running play, and our RBs were asked to run sideways while the whole thing imploded around them. For a shoddy o line, I say Fannin is the guy. He hits the hole fastest and strongest.

If the line is good, then I don't really have an opinion because we have nothing to base this opinion on. We will just have to wait and see who the coaches put out there and how they do.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I actual blame Tuberville more than I do Franklin. If Tuberville had given Franklin control over his staff and the say so for the offense, all the blame would have been in Franklin's course. Offensively, I think Tuberville wanted to open up, but he was like an ice skater on the ice for the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Steve, there are premade subroutines for any computing need you have in fortran. Not saying this is the way to go, but yes, in theory you can do anything in fortran to my knowledge that you can do in C.

I am a simple man who prefers his matlab, though.

  160. The thing about last year was Tuberville was not in a position where he could just stand by and let the Tony Franklin experiment work it's magic. It was do or die.

Chiznik, however, will be given a bit of a free pass this year, so hopefully he won't feel the need to meddle with the offense if it is slow going at first. You can tell by this blog that fan expectations are different this year. It won't be the end of the world if Auburn doesn't set the world on fire on offense.

  161. C is a different animal. Try to write a program in fortran to reboot your computer. In C it is so easy that I have done it accidentally numerous times.

  162. Michael, I didn't have high expectations last season, unlike many. My expectations were that the offense would appear prepared to play. That wasn't the case. Penalties were the real cause of the implosion of our offense last year and that is a sign of poor coaching.

  163. Steve ...

Careful, buddy, you are making way too much sense.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Brother Jet apparently agrees with your opinions on fortran, Steve.

    ReplyDelete
  165. When I say "high expectations", I am thinking more like being in the top 70 or so in offense instead of next to last. You know, a little improvement from the year before.

  166. Is anyone else happy that Blaine Boyer was just sent to St.Louis to screw up Adam Wainwright's quality starts?

  167. Jet, I never said that I agreed with the decisions last season. I just believe CTT earned the chance to correct his error. I still admire the overall way CTT lead Auburn. He kept us at a high level on the football field while graduating a lot of players. I haven't looked, but I would guess we had more academic all americans under Tuberville than any coach in recent memory. Overall he did an excellent job. That isn't to say that last season wasn't a disorganized circle jerk.

  168. I can assure you that Auburn's offense will score more touchdowns against div-1 opponents than South Alabama this year.

  169. Do you think Chizik will run an organized circle...ehhh.. Steve?

  170. That reminds me of joke ..

Why don't Junior Leaguers have orgies?

    Too many thank-you notes.

  171. PF, you and i should start the Hottest University of South Alabama Blog on the Net (HUSABOTN). my research shows the number of participants could climb into the low teens with years of hard work.

  172. and i think AU has a true offensive direction for the first time since coach dye was prowling the sidelines.

  173. If Kodi was a computer language..hmmm, he reminds me of COBOL.

Course someone may say BASIC, but BASIC was still functional.

I remember the FORTRON, BASIC, and COBOL classes I had. Even Pascal and C++. Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end. While I never had an ALGOL, I know plenty of people who have.

I miss Dbase and other neat things like that. I remember when I was told a 20 meg hard drive was all I would ever need.

  174. michael, I think the Chiz knows where his bread is buttered. Offensively, Malzahn will organize the circle.

  175. Hmmmm, then I think Tony Franklin would be LISP.

  176. just caught up on the anti- Comic Sans movement. I would say to just ban HR managers and other office ladies that use it (let's get real, non-HR men don't use it) and it will go away.

  177. Tony Franklin is like having Netscape as your primary browser.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Steve I think that had Tubs given Franklin the control he wanted, the team would have completely quit on him. Kodi was already asking for a transfer.

  179. 'Your HTML cannot be accepted: Tag is not allowed: &ltfont face="Comic Sans MS"&gt'

Crap. And it would have been such a great comment too.

  180. Fantastic, Denny. I hope Jay G picks that up for the front page.

  181. I think CTT was too excited about Kodi. It is kind of like that diver who hit his head on the board. Yea, Kodi looked good at first, but the follow through just isn't there yet.

    ReplyDelete
  182. The mistake Tubs made was hiring Franklin. Tubs admitted that much.

Once Franklin bombed, no one was making it out of there alive. Just wasn't going to happen. Franklin couldn't get his offense to work against the lightweights, he wasn't going to get it working by the end of the season either. Maybe it was his fault, maybe the players just sucked, who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  183. If it weren't for Netscape, we wouldn't have Firefox, so maybe the analogy holds.

  184. Hey folks. worked for the man all weekend. working for myself today. i did get to listen to the aday game prior to being called in on sat. cobol takes me back in time a bit. am i the only one who feared the c prompt?

  185. Pretty cool post here:

    http://www.auburntron.com/2009/04/12/2008-offense-kodi-vs-todd/

Compares Kodi vs Todd statistically. Basically, the two sucked just about equally, with Kodi being slightly better at the helm.

Either way, I don't think you can blame last year on Franklin loving Todd or Tubs loving Burns. Neither one got the job done.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Franklin's offense worked against Georgia when he was at Troy. I think it is more of an issue with coaching as well as possibly how well he was able to adjust his offense to the personnel. One of the things I like about Malzahn is that one year at Tulsa they were a running team. The next they were passing. It was just a matter of putting in the right plays for the personnel.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Franklin had his mind set on who was going to play and who was not. He also seemed to make those intentions known in a very disrespectful way to both Kodi and Caudle. That is not how Auburn does things. I would say that lost him the support of the coaches and team more than anything else

    ReplyDelete
  188. Having Kodi and Caudle as potential starters is an interesting problem. One has shown that he cant win a game for you (See UGA) and the other has shown that he can lose some for you (see crazy INTs in practice).

    ReplyDelete
  189. No amount of debugging could have made the Tony Franklin offense compile last year.
