Age: 45 (born 12/11/63)
College: B.A. from Georgia Tech (management), 1987
Playing career: Spent four seasons as a linebacker at Georgia Tech. My esteemed colleague, Phillip Marshall, says Roof was "one hell of a player."
Coaching career:
•Auburn, defensive coordinator (current)
•Minnesota, defensive coordinator (2008)
•Louisville, linebackers (2008, left after a short stay)
•Duke, head coach (2003-07)
•Duke, defensive coordinator (2002)
•Georgia Tech, defensive coordinator (1999-2001)
•Georgia Tech, linebackers (1998)
•Western Carolina, defensive coordinator (1997)
•UMass, linebackers (1994-96)
•Duke, linebackers (1990-93)
•West Georgia, linebackers (1989)
•Alabama, graduate assistant (1987-88)
Mentor:
Bill Curry
Previous Auburn experience:
None, though he played against Auburn in 1984, 85 and 86. Tech went 1-2 in those games.
Coaching philosophy:
Let's start here -- Ted Roof isn't the most popular guy around. He was tabbed as an up-and-comer during his days as an assistant at Georgia Tech, then completely flopped as Duke's head coach during a forgettable five-season run. Winning at Duke is tough. Those problems presented Roof with the first insurmountable challenge of his career. He couldn't fix the problem and it all fell on his head.
He actually took a job as linebackers coach at Louisville (a substantial drop in pay and profile) before catching on with the nation's worst defense at Minnesota a few weeks later. At this point, I filed Roof away as failed head coach never to be heard from again.
He regained some national relevance at Minnesota, though, by taking an awful defense and making it average in a matter of months. He succeeded by taking tons of risks. He didn't have the athletes to bang with the Ohio States and Penn States, so Roof concocted a series of awkward sets and coverages that gave the Gophers a strategic advantage. Minnesota's resurgence wasn't serendipity; Roof fixed a lot of problems.
Now armed with a comparable supply of talent, Roof will settle in as a base 4-3 guy. He took some risks at Duke and many risks at Minnesota. I believe he will be surprisingly conservative at Auburn. Roof feels like Auburn has enough talent to bang with the big teams in the SEC and he plans to do that. At the heart of Roof's vision is a stable defense. I expect his defenses to operate like Paul Rhoads' ... and not Will Muschamp's.
Personality profile:
Roof is blustery at times, particularly on the field. He doesn't do the crazy yelling we saw from Will Muschamp. Still, Roof is more assertive than Paul Rhoads. He can't deal with lack of effort.
Away from the field, Roof strikes me as a loner. I usually see him working by himself. I can't imagine him being a major recruiting element as some have suggested. He's not hip. He's not going to be hip.
He hasn't told me this, but my sense after talking with him is that he's getting back to basics himself. The Duke debacle affected him deeply. The Minnesota thing was (and always was going to be) a short-term destination. His goal was to catch on at a big school and redevelop the old-school defenses that worked well for him at Tech.
He's savoring his revival. He's hungry.
Roof..Roof. The Roof is on fire. We don't need no water let the ****** Burn.
ReplyDeletego eddie
ReplyDeletebloodhound gang ref eddie. nice.
ReplyDeleteJay, so when did the AU officials clamp down on interviews with coaches?
ReplyDeleteDo you guys think AU needs to blitz and run more than base defense to succeed this year. I hope the Rhoades reference was only stating that it would be a basic defense and not a passive defense.
ReplyDeleteI would be willing to wager that we will blitz more than Rhoads but not nearly as much as Muschamp. I think the front 4 will dictate how much that will be. If they are not getting the push they need to pressure the QB, we will be forced to blitz more. I just don't know what that happy median will be.
ReplyDelete"Hungry" coaches ready to prove something ... yeah that may be just the thing to get the ball rolling
ReplyDeleteJay- I get the sense that of the 2 coaches you have done a synopsis on..Roof impresses you the least..just sayin..
ReplyDeletemake it three coaches..my bad..
ReplyDeleteJGT....great idea and work doing the coach previews. Nice, interesting stuff during the doldrums.
ReplyDeletei'm curious as to whether or not he took any mediocre players and "coached them up" into really good players.
ReplyDeleteWartigah ...
ReplyDeleteI think there's some similarity between Roof and Chizik -- up and comers who took the wrong job. The difference in my mind is Roof had less of a resume than Chizik.
But both are ravenously hungry. And that's a good thing.
Bill Curry, Mentor = alrighty then
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I like the sound of this profile. Silent, but deadly. Something to prove, afraid to fail again.
Bill Curry is a good man and a good coach.
ReplyDeleteOf the three coaches I have profiled to this point, I have spoken more with Ted Roof. I like him.
Bill Curry is a fine man.
ReplyDeleteBobby Ross won a MNC with Curry's players @ GT. Gene Stallings won a MNC with Curry's players @ Bammer.
ReplyDeleteCurry has said some wierd stuff and was a marginal coach on gameday, but he generally was able to build good programs while following the rules.
Great speech maker. Dreadful game day coach.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Hoopie and all Auburn fans love it when our team plays his.
ReplyDeletecurry was also a terrible dresser at bammer.
ReplyDeletethe 88 iron bowl he wore these gray beltless slacks that came up to his nipples with black sneakers like the players were wearing.
the 89 iron bowl he wore a sweater with "alabama" embroidered on it that looked like something aunt buella had knitted as revenge for taking her last werther's original.
Jet...agreed re: Curry's Character.
ReplyDeleteEddie....saw your new passion and offered a comment.
ReplyDeleteCurry is a very good coach. When we played his GT teams in the 80s it was always a good game. He did a great job at Alabama also, although he didn't get credit. He was going up against some of Dye's best teams.
ReplyDeleteRoof is one of the coaches I was more concerned with. I liked Paul Rhoades a lot and thought he was an excellent choice. I had been hoping Auburn would find a defensive coordinator that would stick with us and I believe Rhoads would. Last years defense was one of the better ones I have seen at Auburn even though they carried the load most of the season due to an inept offense.
As for Roof, I also think he may be one of the coaches that sticks around for the long haul. I know he wouldn't want to re-live his Duke experience. I am just not certain he is up to the Chizik/Muschamp/Rhoads standard. I do suspect he will eclipse Gibbs very quickly.
Curry may be a fine man (I don't know him personally), but he's not a good coach.
ReplyDeleteUpdate on Mrs. Digger from Digger:
ReplyDelete"We have another milestone today they have reduced the pressure to zero on the Ventilator, which means she is breathing on her own. If she contuines and doesn't have to go back on for any help we may not have to go to Anniston for breathing rehab. Of course this will mean we get home quicker by only going for physical rehab.
She looks good and is taking this a whole lot better than I could have imagined. I was dreading her becoming fully aware of what was going on but she has really fooled me."
H-O-L-D HOLD THAT LINE!!!
ReplyDeleteSteve ...
ReplyDeleteYou say this, and others have as well about Gibbs. I understand that Gibbs didn't gee-haw with Tubs, but explain to me how he was an underachiever. The record says he did just fine, except for a bowl game that flat out meant more to the opponent than it did to Auburn. I'm not a huge fan, but it's quite revisionist to make his stay some sort of massive failure.
Penguins going to Stanley Cup Final! YEA!!!
ReplyDeleteWAR EAGLE!!!
how many former AU hockey players are on the penguin's roster?
ReplyDeleteWhile I wouldn't call Gibb's stay a massive failure, the defense definitely wasn't up to par with what we had come to expect of Auburn. Auburn's offense was very good with Cox that season. It was the defense that was the weak spot, which was unusual for Auburn.
ReplyDeletechip chip- um, none.
ReplyDeleteHA Chip
ReplyDeleteAlthough aggressive attack mode sounds more exciting, I just want defensive domination. I don't care if it's as risky as MN or if he runs a base defense as dull as my personality, JUST DOMINATE!
ReplyDeleteI thought John Mark Fluery was one of our long snappers.
ReplyDeleteBill Curry is a very good coach and an even better person. By far the most like-able coach Bama ever had.
ReplyDeleteHe is much too nice a guy to ever be a successful coach.
Steve, Your work load must have lightened up considerably.
ReplyDeleteehyou - Curry is a very good coach, but he's never going to be a successful coach?
ReplyDeleteShug was successful, and also a true gentleman.
ReplyDeleteJet - that was funny!
Work is still tough, but I caught up a lot last week.
ReplyDeleteHere is an interesting fact. Which offense averaged more points per game, 2004 Undefeated Jason Campbell Auburn or 2005 Brandox Cox Auburn without Campbell, Caddy, or Ronnie?
I was so thinking "Roof is on fire" while I read that. How can you not?
ReplyDeleteWell, I just saw the positive side. Yea, 7 QBs on scholarship is excessive, but at least it isn't deep snappers.
ReplyDeleteMon...
ReplyDeleteI guess it's hard to explain. I respect him and would take him as my coach.
But no...he is not a winner.
Ehyou,
ReplyDeleteIf you want Curry as your coach, can I schedule you? ... forever ... we'll play at your place ... every year.
if ms. digger is on cpap and holding her own, that is, indeed, good news. regarding curry, i believe he never meshed well with the rec. his record was good enough and, as has been pointed out, he was up against some of dye's best teams.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely take Curry as a coach. Of the Bama coaches since the Barrrr, he is probably around the 3rd best.
ReplyDeleteehyou - This Bud's for you...
ReplyDeleteROOF
Best UAT coaches since Bear:
ReplyDeletePrice
Dubose
Shula
That's it. There can be no other list.
Norm, I'm going to buy you a beer one day.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of beer they sell Yuengling here now. We bought the Lager and I liked it. Greg wasn't crazy about it. He says he needs to try some of their others. He's more of a Guinness guy.
Let's see since the Bahr.
ReplyDeletePerkins, Curry, Stallings, Dubose, Fran, Price (doesn't really count), Shula, Saban.
I'd put Curry in 6th place.
norm ...
ReplyDeleteThat came up in conversation yesterday at the house, and I showed it to Mrs. Jet for the first time. It got a cackle out of her.
Get down, party people!
That particular article is probably my all-time favorite from that publication. Well, that and maybe one other which is not suitable for a family environment such as this.
ReplyDeleteMon - I'll take you up on that offer. We'll stick Jet with the tab for the rest.
ReplyDeleteGoodnight Hotties. I've been staying up well past my bedtime lately and still getting up before the buttcrack of dawn. I need my beauty rest.
ReplyDeleteCheck you folks out throughout the day tomorrow.
I do like the way you think.
ReplyDeleteG'Night Norm.
ReplyDeleteI hope I've over-analyzed Bill Curry. That is totally what I set out to do today.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia State University head coach Bill Curry?
ReplyDeleteThat Bill Curry?
brent poole?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hotties! Happy Hump Day!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTime to head to the gym. Catch you all later.
Good morning, Hotties! It's Wednesday already! Who else is as tired of rain as I am??
ReplyDeleteGood morning Eddie, Luv, & all the Hotties!
ReplyDeleteWARRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!
Auburn went 8-0 vs GA Tech in the 1980's, so there is no way Roof could have been 1-2 vs Auburn as a player.
ReplyDeleteMorning thoughts...
ReplyDeleteAs the defense emerges as one of the tops in the SEC/nation, fans should make shirt or stickers or something that has this slogan:
"Check into the Red Roof Inn...where your offense is never heard from again"
or
"Killer Defense on a Hot Ted Roof"
Sensi- I like the Red Roof Inn one myself. Pretty good.
ReplyDeleteMorning Hotties - happy Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteTHT,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Pens victory. We were watching the Braves last night and the Pens score scrolled across the screen. I said, "Oh, the Pens won their hockey game!" Hubby looked at me like I had two heads! "Since when do you know the Penguins play hockey?"
Amusing anecdote from coach's meetings.
ReplyDeleteehyou- I saw that last night. That is funny. I would have loved to have been a fly in that elevator ride.
ReplyDeleteHere's something different, a positive write-up about the AU QB position from an outside perspective.
ReplyDeleteeddie...
ReplyDeleteYou ain't kidding. For some reason I love the idea of Kiffin squirming a little.
Article mentions Gus's offense going 8-0 with a true freshman QB. Hmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteGood article ehyou. Worth the read. I am sticking to my guns on Rollison. I just have a feeling, provided he clears the clearinghouse.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the story behind Mitch Mustain's benching after starting 8-0 at Arkansas? I never got that.
ReplyDeleteQ & A with Chizik
ReplyDeleteMustain spent three seasons as Malzahn's quarterback in high school before the Arkansas thing happened. There was a familiarity.
ReplyDeletea.) I wish I was in Destin.
ReplyDeleteb.) Chizik rarely says anything profound, which is disappointing from a reporter's perspective.
c.) I love this quote: "I don't get validated from the outside world. So I don't even pay attention to that."
OK.
ehyou, that guy has an interesting perspective. Heisman, though? That's some serious wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteSensi- Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Casey Dick was set to be the starting QB in 2006 but was injured and even though Mustain was winning, he was struggling some and they yanked Mustain in, I believe, the South Carolina game and Casey Dick came in and looked pretty good. Dick started from that point on I believe.
ReplyDeleteThat is my foggy memory or recollection of why Mustain was replaced.
Jay G., would you say Tuberville was somewhat validated by the outside world?
ReplyDeleteJust curious on your perspective.
Thanks for the Mustain updates, gang.
And I'm still looking for an official HABOTN ruling on the use of "we" when referring to the teams.
ReplyDeleteAnyone?
Tuberville absolutely was validated by the outside world.
ReplyDeleteHe was respected. I don't think people saw him as a superstar, but they didn't seem him as a failure.
I don't really understand what it means to be "validated" by the outside world anyway. It just sounds like rhetoric from someone who doesn't feel validated by the outside world.
When and if Chizik starts winning awards, we'll see if he stays true to his words. Based on that statement, awards are meaningless.
Thanks, Jay.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, have you (Jay G.) been given any notice about media access (or lack thereof) in the fall?
ReplyDeleteJay, is Roof going to be running "his" defense, or is Chizik going to dictate the style of defense and let Roof work out the specifics?
ReplyDeleteI think Chizik and Roof have similar ideas about defense. They're approximately the same age with the same level of experience.
ReplyDeleteThey'll be collaborators.
Thanks. I will be very interested to see how this plan works out. I never was the Rhoads fan lots of people were, I hope to see improvment on the D this year.
ReplyDeleteSad news for Mike Tyson
ReplyDeleteTyson's daughter passes after accident
Hey HOTTIES, It's a wonderful day here in NW Arkansas...I can see Oklahoma and Missouri from my window...not much to see, if you can imagine.
ReplyDelete*crickets*
ReplyDeleteNot many crickets from what I can tell...plenty of cows, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm back online Sensi. Sorry, I was away from my desk.
ReplyDeleteCowgirls?
ReplyDeleteA few girls resembling cows...if that's what you mean.
ReplyDeleteSean, sure you are not in Tuscaloosa?
ReplyDeleteCrazy rednecks running around in a nice dark pink...screaming unintelligable cheers and generally making fools of themselves? I could see why you would guess Tuscaloosa. But no, just Arkansas.
ReplyDeleteNote to John and Barry,
ReplyDeletePlease feed the mouse turning the wheel operating the computer charged with streaming the show on the Internet.
Much appreciated.
Sensi
Agreed Sensi. Feed the mouse. My feed is now dead as a door nail.
ReplyDeleteYeah, not a good day for it form my vantage point. I'm in the midst of a paperwork day, meaning I am now subjected to the discussion of the NBA game (which I did watch, but have moved on from) and whether or not Manny Rameriz deserves All Star votes.
ReplyDeleteStill beats political talk though.
NBA = Professional Wrestling?
ReplyDeleteDiscuss among yourselves.
D Miller ... you out there?
ReplyDeleteJay G ...
ReplyDeleteIn re 8:30 a.m. post, I concur.
I just wish the season would get started already, so we can quit talking about 5-19, whether or not Chiz is qualified...basically I'm sick of the talk and ready for some action.
ReplyDeleteRoof sure is purdy. I can't figure out what makes him look so effeminate.
ReplyDeleteSean, in summary, would you say:
ReplyDeleteA little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby
That's about right, Norm.
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteA minor correction to your write up on Roof, Tech went 0-3 during Roof's years there vs Auburn.
Norm,
ReplyDeleteThangyaveramuch.
Ehyou,
The answer to your 10:26 a.m. post: Bill Curry.
Jet,
ReplyDeleteCan we have the midweek sermon of hate?
Thanks.
I was gonna save it for Wednesday night prayer meetin', but I imagine I can get one up for you, Brother Sensi.
ReplyDeleteso based on the talk from the coaches it sounds like they are really going to use Fannin like they should have last year. does anyone thing there is reason to doubt this. i am a huge Fannin...well...fan and it killed me not to see him utilized in the games last year. especially the final drive of the georgia game.
ReplyDeletePreach on, Brother Jet.
ReplyDeleteAUNugget, I invite you to listen to Jay G. Tate's interview on Dunnaway and Brown from back in April. It should be in the audio archives on their page. He has some good insights on Fannin and other aspects of the team/coaches.
Cincy- Thanks!!! I've already ordered THTjr, MissTHT, and myself Eastern Conference Championship t-shirts which should arrive tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do that last year, instead waiting for the Stanley Cup Champion t-shirt which never materialized.
GO PENS!!!
Sheeee was fightin' em off at a... corner table....she had a long neck bottle, she was peeling the lable. The look I caught in the glass refraction said a little less talk and a lot more action....cue the guitar riff
ReplyDeleteHoopie with the old school Toby Keith there. Before Toby went all political and stupid.
ReplyDeleteI am constantly amazed at "armchair coarhes" abilities to recall very specific details of perceived coaching failures from the past seasons....and yet at the same time not even be cognizant that they weren't on the sidelines or in the huddle and therefore didn't really know the situation well enough to criticize with validity.
ReplyDeleteSensi....I thought that was from the Georgia Satellites one hit wonder.
ReplyDeleteThere's the old Hoopie we all know and love.
ReplyDeleteIn the Hotties' defense, that kind of discussion here is much more even-handed than on "other" sites.
Nope, it's a Toby Keith "gem".
ReplyDeleteDangit, Toby killed the thread
ReplyDeleteSensi..you're right about the HABOTN sensibilities. I guess I need to remove the Teddy Roosevelt "In the Arena" quote from my office wall.
ReplyDeleteHoopie,
ReplyDeleteI just spent 3 mins of the lunch hour reading an AL.COM blog and responses. My eyes are burning now.
Can a read and react defense force more turnovers? I'm just not a fan of the bend but don't break defense.
ReplyDeleteI want to attack, attack, attack. Blitz 2 guys every down. Worked well for LSU in the early 2000's. They forced alot of turnovers as well.
In world news, CNN reports that leading economists agree the recession will end by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with that strategy is if your front line/blitzers don't make the stop against a talented back (and there are bunch in the SEC), that's a mismatch against secondary who aren't big enough to bring one down solo. It also sucks up the D too much for playaction stuff where one-on-one coverage breaks down. The top of the SEC teams all are strong enough up front to handle a blitz scheme. It's better to get pressure with your down four through solid technique and let your backers work the middle of the field with the secondary playing two deep, in my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteSensi...I'm in real estate development and financing is our lifeblood. The banks are still scared and paralyzed. Contrary to what the Treasury Sec says, most banks think that as soon as the economy starts to recover,we will dive in record inflation. Accordingly the banks will only do very safe, short term loans.
ReplyDeleteI now spend too much time chasing financing instead of locating land, designing and constructing. This has seriously curtailed my available HABOTN time.
This for you, Mr. S.
ReplyDeleteSTORY TIME WITH BROTHER JET
Now, chillun, gather ‘round, to hear the story from the Good Book about Lot. And about Sodom and Gomorrah.
Lot was a good Auburn man. In fact he was kin to a great Auburn man, Abraham. But Lot always wanted to be a lawyer, so after he graduated from Auburn, he wanted to go to law school. Unfortunately, the public law school in the state was at Sodom. And it was a wicked place. Gomorrah was a suburb. It was wicked, too. It was known for its Assyrian chariot plant and its wickedness. Sodom was just known for its wickedness. Now, chillun, Sodom and Gomorrah are Hebrew words. They translate into English as Tuscaloosa and Vance.
Now, because you’re little chillun, I can’t tell you all the wicked they were doin’ in Sodom. It was pure evil. Buyin’ players, givin’ ‘em cars, and making sure they had ice cream when they were in jail. And much worse.
In the fullness of time, the Lord decided he’d had enough and sent his angels from the NCAA to put an end to Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham knew that Lot was trying to get some schoolin’ at the law school.
And he prayed for Lot’s safety. The Lord looked with favor upon Abraham’s plea. Abraham sent Lot a text message that said get you and your family out of town now!
Lot wasn’t sure what to make of it, and sent a text back to Abraham. This caused Abraham to chat with Lot on Facebook.
He ‘splained to him good. Unfortunately, Lot had gotten himself married to a local when he was in Sodom. This was peculiar because it appeared that all the locals were related – immediately.
She was a purty girl, at least Lot thought so. But she had bad raisin’, and she was tryin’ to influence Lot for evil. She knew, though, that Abraham was right that judgment was coming soon.
Lot remembered, the last thing Abraham told him was whatever you do, don’t look back. So Lot put on the good foot, and got outta town – traveling down U.S. 82. He could hear the devastation and destruction in the distance behind him. Lot’s wife, though, couldn’t hep herself. She had to take a look back, and she was instantly reduced to a pillar of houndstooth ash.
Lot transferred to Cumberland, got his law degree and now fights legal battles against the descendents of the Cousin Humpers. He married a good Auburn girl and they have a slew of happy younguns.
Hoopie, thanks for sharing that. I am scared to try and sell my house now as I may never have a shot at another.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brother Jet. Now everyone stand as we sing 728c - "Our Team, It is Alive!"
ReplyDeleteI like unpredictable or intelligent blitzes instead of constant mass blitzes. Force the offense to be perfect all the way down the field rather than constantly gambling and risking quick, easy scores.
ReplyDeleteOf course if you have 4 Eric Berry-types in the DB, then blitze all you want.
First, third and fourth stanzas only please.
ReplyDeletegreat story Jet!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Hoopie. Berry is a stud for sure.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I wish the 46 defense would still work, but too many teams spread out with 4 wrs these days to make the scheme work properly.
Ah, a simpler time.
Sensi, hence the popularity around the 3-4, the 4-2-5 and the newer 3-3-5.
ReplyDeleteJet...."reduced to a pillar of Houndstooth Ash"....dayum you're good.
ReplyDeleteSensi...residential loans are more doable, because the President says so. Make sure you have a concrete new loan commitment before getting in position to need a new loan. If making the move, don't wait too long after getting the commitment....banks will now recend commitments without apology.
As requested, Norm
ReplyDeleteThere is beyond the navy blue
A team preparing for a fight
To work it's way back up the hill
Of the SEC's might
There is a team (there is a team)
It is alive (it is alive)
And it we support (we support)
Both day and night
There is a team
It is alive
War Eagle all
Day and night!
The team is led by the Chiz
And Gus and Roof and all the rest
Seven quarterbacks from which to choose
Let's hope the spread works out this time
There is a team (there is a team)
It is alive (it is alive)
And it we support (we support)
Both day and night
There is a team
It is alive
War Eagle all
Day and night!
And we this team faces UAT
A beating down will ensue
Midgit Saban will not know what to say
As Bammers turn on him too
There is a team (there is a team)
It is alive (it is alive)
And it we support (we support)
Both day and night
There is a team
It is alive
War Eagle all
Day and night!
Thanks, Hoopie. That's what we did the first time and plan to do again, but for now, we may hold what we've got.
ReplyDeleteI see your point Sensi and respect it. Having said that, I believe bringing more than they can block makes running room for the backs harder to find. wde
ReplyDeleteI get what you are saying, Cory. AU needs DBs that can handle the man to man stuff if the D intends to go kitchen sink. However, from what Jay G. writes, I don't think that's what Roof does and he was right by saying the DBs played better when Chizik was the DC here.
ReplyDeleteSensi,
ReplyDeletejust got back to my desk. thanks for the link about Fannin. ill check that out when i get a chance.
No problem, Nugget.
ReplyDeleteDang me, I killed it again.
ReplyDeletei am kind of in favor of the bend but don't break, though i don't like the name, like Auburn played in 2006 against lsu. i think of it as more a kin a low pressure containment type defense used in soccer. where you give the other team their entire side of the field, but once they cross midfield you shut them down. the AU v. lsu game in 2006 once lsu crossed the 50 Auburn's D got tighter and tighter, only allowing that one field goal. a truly great defensive struggle, if you are into that. i am.
ReplyDeletei guess they played it exclusively, but the lsu game was my example.
ReplyDeleteBlitz? No blitz?
ReplyDeleteI just hope the defense is hungry like the Roof.
well, i can get behind that Brother Jet.
ReplyDeleteHungry like the Roof(Wolf)? Jet is on fire today.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone having trouble getting the 740 stream online?
ReplyDeleteYep, been down since 9:30 this morning, Mon.
ReplyDeleteI take medicine. I have no stream problems.
ReplyDeleteThat right there is what we call an over-share.
ReplyDelete(thanks Sensi)
It's a Moon-less Roundtable this week too. Would have been nice to listen in today.
ReplyDeleteDang.. I'm workng at home and would be able to listen to 740 today if available.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing pro bono work....estimating and ordering material for a Boy Scout Hut to be located on our church grounds. We have a 150 member scout troup that requires no subsidy from the church. I never did the scout thing, but am impressed with what these guys accomplish.
Hoopie, that is great!
ReplyDeleteI am an Eagle Scout and the church that supported my troup was wonderful.
I had a chance to do some work them as an adult while I was in grad. school.
Troop 284
Overshare = TMI. Mon..go easy on Jet...that was nothing compared to a Michael overshare.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for the yearly Doc visit and I guess we'll discuss stream flow during that appointment.
YAY for Hoopie doing pro bono work! My Grandmother would say that's a star in your crown.
ReplyDeleteHoopie - I never take it easy on Jet and he likes it that way.
Mon likes it rough. This was known.
ReplyDeleteJet likes it rough? This is news.
:-)
Sensi...Eagle Scout is impressive. We average 2 eagle scouts per year. In fact, wifey is advising our friend's son during his Eagle Scout landscaping project.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, Hoopie. Scouting is a very nice memory for me.
ReplyDeleteMon...The current economy has pounded us financially, but we have had a blessed life and firmly believe that if you're not part of the solution.....you're part of the problem. Try to return the gift and give back in some small way....everyday.
ReplyDeleteI sit down at my desk to find a fine message from Brother Jet. What a treat. Well said sir.
ReplyDeleteI would disagree with Monica, but I am still recovering from the last time she kicked my butt.
ReplyDeleteJet knows his place.
ReplyDeleteTotally TOTALLY agree with you, Hoopie and Greg and I practice what we believe (at least on this issue). :-)
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, why WAS I defending Jet? Last time I checked..Jet and Mon can go toe to toe against each other without assistance... but there is a lot of bloodshed.
ReplyDeletebut at the end of the day he loves me
ReplyDeleteMon - that's because you tell him to, he's clearly subservient.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere in the background, "The Man Song" should be playing.
ReplyDeleteJet,
ReplyDeleteHow would you know what the "Man Song" sounds like?
Your pal
JZ
Norm..ya gotta love "One bullet Barney". One of the best theatrical characters ever on TV. Back in the day, we ate lunch at a small restaurant in Arizona that carried the show without sound. The patrons ad libbed the dialogue and plot. Barney provided the best character for such.
ReplyDeleteJ-Z ...
ReplyDeleteLong time, no see. Too bad it couldn't have lasted longer.
I thought it was 90 days, but I guess they can't count that high in P-Vegas.
"Oh my Barney, oh my Barney,
ReplyDeleteOh my BAAARNEY, Barney Fife.
Had one bullet for his pistol,
had to keep it in his pocket."
I love that show.
Juanita, Juanita, Juanita.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks to look back and know that all I was from being an Eagle Scout was an Eagle Scout Project. It is like running a race, getting to the finish line and saying, nah, this is far enough. One the only decisions I really regret in my life.
ReplyDeleteyou love me too, Norm, so nip it
ReplyDeleteAs an Eagle Scout and current Scout volunteer, thank you Hoopie for being involved. The program can't function without folks like you.
ReplyDeleteJ-Z,
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize they had a Scout troop at Mt. Meigs.
Mon - "you love me too, Norm, so nip it". Well, as any true Andy Griffith Show and Barney Fife fan can tell you;
ReplyDeleteDon Knotts: "Nip it in the bud! You got to nip it in the bud! ... Nip it! You go read any book you want on the subject of child discipline, and you'll find that every one of 'em is in favor of bud-nippin'... Only one way to take care of it."
Andy Griffith: "Nip it."
Knotts: "In the bud."
Norm ...
ReplyDeleteWhat are the rules at "The Rock?"
1st Rule- Obey All Rules!
ReplyDeleteNow here at the Rock we have two rules. Memorize them until you can say them in your sleep. Rule number one: obey all rules. Rule number two: no writing on the walls.
ReplyDeleteJet,
ReplyDeleteJust because you're too much of a puddin to sleep on the ground at Camp Tuk, don't vent your hostilities on me.
Back to the whole defensive theory discussion... I personally hope we have a defense that will tear opposing offenses limbs off and beat them to death with the bloody appendage. But that's just me. I want every player on the opposing offenses to know that our defense is going to hit them so hard a snot bubble comes out of their nose any time they are within 30 yards of the ball.
Norm,
ReplyDelete"What's the plan?"
J-Z,
ReplyDeleteI can't claim to be very agile, or exceedingly mobile, so I will not permit you to deny my ability to be hostile.
But I like your defensive philosophy.
See my earlier posts about the "46 Defense" - JZ summed up exactly why I like that particular defensive strategery.
ReplyDeletepuddin?
ReplyDeleteAnyone lending Finebaum an ear today?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't lend J-Z's ear.
ReplyDeleteNow that'n is my all time favorite ("Man in a Hurry" episode):
ReplyDeleteBarney - "I'm gonna go home, have me a little nap, and then go over to Thelma Lou's and watch a little TV."
Andy - "Mmhmm"
Barney - "Yeah, I believe that's what I'll do. Go home...have a nap...and then over to Thelma Lou's for TV."
Andy - "Mmm"
Barney - "Yep, that's the plan. Home...little nap...then...
"Man in a hurry" - "For the love of Mike, DO it!!!"
Me, too, Norm. Me, too.
ReplyDeleteOpie gets to bring out the ironin' board and sleep on it. That's "adventure sleepin'".
ReplyDeleteI am, Sensi.
ReplyDeleteNorm & Jet,
ReplyDeleteI know Helen was a teacher, but where did Thelma Lou work?
Mon, what do you make of all this fuss over Slive's comments and whether or not Sabear was involved in textbook goings on?
ReplyDeleteWhere was Aunt Bee from and don't Google it.
ReplyDeleteI came in too late, Sensi. So all I've heard is the whining and not what it is they are whining about exactly.
ReplyDeleteThelma Lou was in charge of fraudulent titles at the Dodge dealership in Gadsden.
ReplyDeleteoooo Sensi there is audio of a Kiffen/Spurrier spat
ReplyDeleteDooley, slipping up the holler
ReplyDeleteDooley, trying to make a dollar
Dooley, give me a swallor and I'll pay you back someday
Ah, I missed it, Mon. I'll have to check back when it loads later.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't played it yet, Sensi. A caller said he had heard it some other place. They are working on getting it on the Fbaum air.
ReplyDeleteSensi - I'm so glad you're an out of the closet Fbaum listener with me. I've taken much abuse from the Hotties over this! ;-)
