Furlough has ended!

Hey everyone. My unpaid, mandated furlough has ended. I'm back in the house.

Sorry for the lack of thread on Saturday. There were some administrative issues at play and I was annoyed. That's all I'm going to say about that.

We'll begin reviewing The Week That Was later today.

We also want to direct good tidings to Ian Rapoport, author of the outstanding Rap Sheet, who was married on Saturday.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY: All of us at the HABOTN want to wish the moms out there a great morning/afternoon/night. I'm thankful for my mom. Without her altrustic intercession, I wouldn't be here today. I'll bet you have a similar story to tell.

MARK RICHARD LEFT:
I was somewhat forlorn last week upon learning that Mark Richard was leaving his post in the Auburn athletic department to become AD at Gannon University. The school is located in Erie, Pa., which isn't far from Richard's hometown. He arrived at Auburn in '99 as an NCAA compliance guy and broke the mold ... by always being in a good mood and never viewing reporters as the de facto bad guys. It's an approach shared by only a few of his Auburn co-workers. I'll miss him being around.

MIKE GRIFFIN LEFT: Auburn's long-time men's golf coach ended his run after a 25th season. He's going to stay on as the program's director of golf -- I have no idea what that means -- and the search for a new coach will start one of these days. I don't know Griffin personally, but he was pretty cool when the NCAA Championships were held at Grand National back in ... 2001? He also didn't view reporters as de facto bad guys. That's the sign of a pro in my book.

  9. Thank you for your kind mother's day wishes. I know I am the King of Eurasia and Queen of HABOTN, but I take my job as a mother at least half as seriously as those other jobs. That ain't too shabby.

  18. Peter Frankenschmidt's avatar woke up the nerd in me, and now that nerd in me wants to design stuff on BRL-CAD.

Yes Michael, you may direct your hatred towards whoever taught you SolidEdge.

  19. Jay- I share your sentiments about Mark Richardson. I was lucky enough to get to know him when he first came to Auburn from Vanderbilt and he is a great guy. Always fun to chat with. I hope he has a great time being back close to home.

  23. Happy Mother's Day, HABOTN moms!

    And welcome back, JGT!

  24. Yea! Ducks finally score. They had a whopping total of 5 shots on goal nearing the end of the 2nd period. That's ridiculous. Commies still lead 2-1.

Canes vs Bruins tonight. GO CANES!

  25. Hi Jay, welcome back. I think I got this furlough thing worked out. On your next furlough, just mail me anything you want posted. I will then change my nick to NotJay and post it. Now, who could argue with that?

  26. Commies win :-(

Canes & Bruins are on Versus

Gotta love the Quest for the Cup!

  27. Actually, UAT is de jure bad guys. One of the immutable laws of the universe is that UAT is evil.

Does anyone know where I can get information on the Gridiron Kick-Off at Landmark Church in Montgomery, AL?

No offense JGT, but as a safety measure, I too would probably assume that most of the press are defacto bad guys. Sometime back, the lines that seperate reporting and commentary blurred and now too many reporters interject desquised commentary in order enhance a story.

I'm sure that after a while, athletic department personnel are able to determine which members of the press to trust, but how much fallout will there be from the reporters that aren't deemed to be the favs. It may just be easier for some of the AD-type folks to keep all of the press at arms length and limit risk.

I also imagine that it makes your job tuffer without folks like Mr. Richards @ AU and I'm sure that we will all be missing something b/c of that.
