Auburn adds 13th commitment

Hey everyone. Auburn has landed another commitment and this guy is a big'un.

Moody High OL Chad Slade, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs approximately 315 pounds, has promised to sign with Auburn in February. We know this because our friends at AuburnSports, AuburnUndercover and ITAT say so.

He chose Auburn over Mississippi State.

The most popular scouting services aren't impressed. Scout.com has given Slade one star (out of five) while Rivals.com hasn't yet given him a rank of any kind.

  1. Ratings, schmatings, we need linemen.

  2. Glad we got him before Arky State did

  3. Linemen never hurt.

  4. Big linemen never hurt

  5. I'll bet knows where some kicka$$ barbecue joints are.

    ReplyDelete
  6. FSJ and DL! - it's now officially a great afternoon!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I can't afford a big vacation this year, so I think I may drive around the state eating at as many BBQ joints as I can. I'm already hungry.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Buck and Kinkaid (SP) in atlanta picked us last...

Had some good things to say about eddie gran

  9. THT...

Funny you should say that...One of my things on my "to do" list is when I get the time is to travel around the state (and perhaps some neighboring states) & eat as much BBQ as possible in out of the way establishments..I'm not interested in the chains..I want the hole in the wall type places.

    ReplyDelete
  10. chain BBQ = ewwwww

I think I will restrict my meals to joints that still use wood, although I may make an exception for Lexington BBQ if they've gone all gassy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Heck THT...I would prefer to avoid all joints that use those in the kitchen commercial smokers...

I'd rather have brick pits or mobile smokers..

    Wood too, of course.

  13. Real men should not say "ewwwwww" under any circumstances (even when there's fur in the bbq).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good point, Comm'r.... I retract that ewwww and hereby replace it with a manly guttural groan of contempt and disgust.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Would you consider the big green egg a kitchen commercial grill?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Big linemen never hurt, unless they step on your foot.. in which case they do hurt a lot more than a 4 star QB.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Aero - you're up late... or early! War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  18. FSJ - I'm ignorant of the whole process... I pretty much just look for a big pile of wood. What should I be looking for?

Comm'r - fur in the bbq would definitely be a cause for concern. Most NC pigs have less hair than what's on top of my head.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I believe they scout and Rivals will re-evaluate this young man and he will add stars. I predict an All American for him Save this for 4 or 5 years and see.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Everyone who is sampling bbq in the state stop by Pruetts in Gadsden. They have the old brick pit and still cook it with hickory wood.

    ReplyDelete
  21. THT, it's 3am. I'll sleep from 4am to 6 to 7 am. A nap later in the evening shall cover things up.

There's a lot of activity going on.

Pardon my Engrish. It gets bad when I'm sleepy.

I see that our new OL has been to camps @ UGA, SPUAT, MSU and AU. Maybe he got better after each camp.

The guy has the size. If he's got the heart he could be good.

I don't think I'll ever get over my disappointment of Leon Hart.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hoopie ...

Let's hope he has heart, not Hart.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like big linemen from in-state ... they're more likely to have heart, or less likely to be homesick.

Bosley, Ingle, Cope, Grubbs -- some were walkons, some not highly recruited.

  25. Anonymous4:45 PM

Digger....I just sold my lake place on Lake Neely Henry on Friday. We always drove right past Pruetts on the way to the cabin and I always wondered if it was good.

I don't really have a reason to go over there now, so I may never get the opportunity to find out first hand.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous4:47 PM

Jet...you're from the Gump. Will Eddins ever live up to his 4 star recruit rating?

    ReplyDelete
  27. well, I'm not having BBQ for dinner. Yankee neighbors invited us out to some French restaurant.

    ...I prefer BBQ

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous5:09 PM

THT....just found out we're taking some neighbors out for Italian in 30 min. to repay a favor. gotta go.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hoopie ...

Sad to say, no. Hopefully, he will contribute one day, but four star players should be expected to start for multiple years. At least in my mind they should.

Eddins has been hurt, and is still dealing with injury issues.

I like the kid, and think the world of his family. I can't call his father Liston a close friend, but we are certainly acquainted.

Bret is a prime example of the questionable credibility of the "star" system. He was bigger than everybody else, so he dominated. He was on good teams (playing against so-so competition), so that made him look good, too.

I am not particularly surprised at his level of achievement thus far, but I am truly stunned at Trott, who thought I would be a star.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Big Green Eggs ROCK. Best cooking device known to man (but divinely inspired). Nothing else can smoke a Boston Butt for 26 hours AND sear a Ribeye at 750 F. Nothing else will do. No "Ewwwww" .. only "Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh"

    ReplyDelete
  31. Not good when Aero says there is a lot of activity where he is.

    When you coming home?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Exactly what "issues" does Montez have to work out????

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'll be coming home in May 2009. My boss seems to have lost his calender so it's not May 2009 yet.

I really should take a nap.

    ReplyDelete
  34. What do y'all think is the best option for catching all the SEC games, DISH Network, Direct TV, Cable?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Did Chizik say there were 4 players disnissed fromthe team in his presser at media day? If wo, are they the three that were already sent home and who is the other or are there 4 new ones that were dismissed?

Sorry if I missed this from an early post.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jet, just wait until you have to move your kids stuff to AU. Two trips today and one to go on Tuesday. Where did that girl get all that stuff and why am I moving it?

    ReplyDelete
  37. wtc, the three already mentioned plus Dax Dellenbach, the celebrated scholarship snapper from the 08 class.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Comm'r of Flesh Wounds

I got an egg 2 years ago and have no idea how I lived without it....

WTC.. War Eagle to you and your Girl!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Big Green Egg is a superb grill/smoker for the backyard chef. Very versatile.

THT...Can't always go by the wood pile. Some places that use gas have a wood pile too to make you think that they use wood. Generally it is not a very big pile though.

A bunch of BBQ places have gone to the commercial pits such as Ole Hickory Pits.. These type of pits make it easier on the proprietor...You don't have to tend to the fire near as much..it also makes the BBQ more consistent...consistently average IMO.

The old style pits are better for producing GREAT BBQ....However the mistakes are much worse too. Miss Myra's in Cahaba Heights (behind the Summitt in Bham) use the old style pits.

Pruett's in Gadsden used to have good BBQ. It has gone way downhill over the past four or five years. However, the original owner (Stan Pruett) has bought the place back from his ex wife so perhaps it will get better. Pruett's in Gadsden and Betty's BBQ in Anniston are the same family. Betty was Stan's mom if I am not mistaken.

ElTurbo will be traveling a tad lighter than your darling daughter, I presume.

  42. I don't know about you, but Mike Fuller Day was busy, so I hope Quentin Riggins Day (Sunday) is more restful.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous9:40 PM

Not very many commments regarding Mr. Fuller. Mostly younger fans On the HABOTN. Back in his day...he was a stud.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jet-Saw many trucks loading up to move out and a few moving in. Daughter is stoked about moving out.(At least until she runs out of money). Just pulling into campus kind of get s you ready for fball.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mike Fuller was muy studlio.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I just realized I haven't commented on this thread yet...

I don't know a thing about Slade... but, he's big, must be athletic if he plays AAU basketball, and he's an OG...
    So, I like him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It doesn't matter what the services say, I say he's awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Gettin' good vibes, kids.

    Going to be now.

  49. Nice to pick up another OL

  50. Digger...
It's very good to see you around.

Week at PCB starting today. Ahhhh.

Now that I understand the significance of "the Dax situation", I get pretty emotional thinking about him being gone (sniff).

  51. Ok, we all slept in late... time to rise & shine!!!

Due to threat of bodily harm, today's selection was an easy one:

    HAPPY QUENTIN RIGGINS DAY!!!

Honorable mention to another LB for always hitting the ball-carrier with a complete sentence:
    Tavarreus Pounds.

    T-minus 41 days til kickoff.

    WARRRRR EAGLE!!!
    GO TIGERS!!!

  52. Happy Q Day!

Who's tomorrow, THT? Did you know Bo Jackson wore No. 40 in HS?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Besides being a great football player and Auburn representative, Quentin has to be one of the most improved sideline reporters in college football. His work has came a long way since he began his broadcasting career.

I hope Jets wish of him being the future AD at Auburn comes true. He would be a great choice for Auburn University.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just watched AC's media day video. He is a fine young man and a great representative of Auburn. I hope he has a stand out senior year. He deserves it. Happy Q day! Another great Auburn rep.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous8:45 AM

So, when do practices start so we can get down to the serious business of analyzing QB rumors?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Goldberg has an article on Tuberville in today's online edition. Apparently his vocation in now.........investments.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just watched the first quarter of the 2005 Auburn -Alabama game. We are up to 5 sacks and 21 points. Fun watching one of my favorite AU players - TJ Jackson. This DVD is different from the others. It is the full game, not just highlights. I will get to enjoy it for several sessions on the elliptical.

Just in case you have forgotten:

    Sack City

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous8:55 AM

Makes sense to me FSJ. I know his stated intention is to return to coaching, but it would not surprise me if he lives off his investments and broadcasting gigs.

I think he makes a much better commentator then most of the talking heads.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Read that article FSJ. Sounds like he is enjoying his break. Not sure the wife is!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Great game Cincy! I need to get that DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Trott sounded very confident in his interview, but that gum needed to go! Sounds like the QBs are really pushing each other in the player-led camps.

    ReplyDelete
  62. What's up with AC's nephew? He is going to be academically eligible?

    ReplyDelete
  63. cincy,

No offense but I think I will skip that one.

    ReplyDelete
  64. FSJ,
I totally understand. I'm not watching replays of last year's game. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. QQQQQQQQQQQQQ!!!!!!!!! ausome guy. 41 days? seriously. wow.

    ReplyDelete
  66. ehyou Thanks it is good to be back.

FSJ you are right the Pruett's BBQ
went down hiil for about 4 years. But it is back now. Stan is the son of Betty and Greg Pruett. They were divorced many years ago and Greg kept the Gadsden place and Betty kept the Anniston place and renamed it Betty's BBQ.
Hoppie it would have depended on when you tried, if you come this way stop by you will enjoy it

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jet - let's not get ahead of ourselves. Enjoy The Q!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Dang it I meant Hoopie

    ReplyDelete
  69. All-Pro, that's all I'm sayin

    ReplyDelete
  70. 1. Great article on Tubbs I agree, hell with his 5.1 million this year for doing nothing I know he can do some great investing, plus add in the money he made in selling his place at Lake Martin. The man is rich beyond his wildest dreams. The problem is he is like all men his age. Investing, golf, etc. it all gets boring. Pretty soon he will want back in the game, in some shape or another.

    2. New recruit-As I have said before there are three types of recruits.

a.) Junior Stars - These are all of the four and three stars now. They had great junior years and they are the hot guys on the lists who are all committing now in case they have bad sr years or get injured.

b.) Campers - These are the unknowns who for some reason come to a team camp and wow the coaches. The coaches get scared someone else might offer them so they extend the offer right then and there. The kid usually accepts not wasting any time.

c.) Senior Stars - These are the kids that come on strong their senior years and get recruited hot in the last few months of the year.

The problem now is schools are locked at 25. Bama has only a few spots left and we are getting to where we soon will only have ten spots left. No much wiggle room.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Give me 5+ million and I promise I won't go back to work. I thrive on boredom.

    ReplyDelete
  72. 5 mil...to do nothing you say? When can I start?

Anyone have anything good to talk about today?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Slade has no video out here. Bottom line. But at his size and speed, and the fact that he's a basketball player at that size, I like his chances. For example, he's faster than any OL that "recruiting giant" Alabama has reserved a commitment for.

By the way, how would you rank Bama's '08 class now? 9 of those players are gone or medically redshirted. 5 more left to kick off before fall practice starts. What a great teacher of men.

Gene Chizik thread on an Auburn site - 80 comments

Coach Nick Saban thread on same Auburn site - 171 comments

    Says it all...

  75. And what exactly does that say, Salsa Shark?

    ReplyDelete
  76. just got notice that comcast out here will finally be offering espn 360 at no additional cost.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think that says more kids that are UAT fans skipped church than AU fans.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think it means Auburn fans have better things to do than sit around and comment on blogs.

Ironic as I'm posting a comment on a blog currently.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Or because there ar emore messages that means Saban is the greatest coach of all time, UAT is the greatest school of all time and their fans are the smartest, best looking, riches, all knowing, all seeing, omnipotant of all time.

Is that what you guys got from that third grade post?

    ReplyDelete
  80. That's bout it WTC.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I just thought it meant we were Keeping the Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Anyone got any idea what Salsa is talking about and why anyone would care? Is the boy on drugs or something?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous12:01 PM

Salsa..that means that Bammer probably has many more fans than AU.

These fans mostly live in the state of Alabama, can't find Tuscaloosa on a map and can only get on the internet to blog b/c their AU friend set up the computer for them. Bama has a whole bunch of dumb, redneck fans..if you are proud of that...then...enjoy and keep bragging haha

    ReplyDelete
  84. cobra commander / salsa shark :

It means that bammers are obsessed with Auburn, and that's why all these bammers are on Auburn blogs.

It also explains why you go to extreme lengths (after being humiliated, disgraced, banned) to come on here.

Mainly, it's because Auburn has taken you behind the woodshed since that bahr turned into a carcass.

If you have anything else to say, go ahead.. it's not like you have any self respect.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I was looking at the article about xCTT on goldberg's blog.

The picture is interesting. Did he decapitate a statue of bahr and kept the head as a souvenir?.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous1:18 PM

    Hey Polesmokers!

That comments was about your beloved HABOTN!

I was simply commenting on how the Alabama/Saban thread here got more attention than the Chiz/Barn thread from Media Days.

Newsflash: Jay G. Tate hates Auburn and your guts too! He knows Saban has this thing locked up solid.

    Get used to getting dominated.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous2:10 PM

    Hey minnow,
All that reflects is that the Bama thread stayed up longer than Chiz because of the times that they spoke.

JG is neutral on the Alabama schools and does a good job of being unbiased on both.

    ReplyDelete
  88. just curious...does the "salsa" refer to the condiment or the dance?

    ReplyDelete
  89. UAT's run at the top of the SEC West is like the Macarena. It is just a fad.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Salsa, if Saban has this thing so locked up why are you here in anonymity talking trash?

Looks like he's got it so well locked up that the admin doesn't care that he's probably ruining the lives (at least temporarily) of some kids that came in with HUGE expectation thanks to Rivals and bogus rankings.

Again, take another look at your '08 class. Getting slimmer by the day and it was a "landslide win" for class of the year in '08.
