Auburn lands another commitment

DL Kenneth Carter of Greenville High has made a verbal commitment to play tackle football at Auburn beginning in 2010.

We know this because our friends at AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com and ITAT say so.

Carter stands 6-foot-5 and weighs approximately 270 pounds. He was a late bloomer in a sense -- ie wasn't a game-changing element until 2008 -- and only recently began receiving offers from big schools. We know Ole Miss, Kentucky and Southern Miss are highly interested.

ITAT believes Alabama and Clemson, among others, have offered scholarships.

Both Scout.com and Rivals.com rate Carter as a three-star prospect (out of five).

Here's a look at Auburn's array of commitments:

OL Shon Coleman, Olive Branch, Miss.
LB Jake Holland, Pelham HS
ATH Shaun Kitchens, Atlanta, Ga.
K Cody Parkey, Jupiter, Fla.
WR Jeremy Richardson, Springville HS
LB Jawara White, Troy
LB Jessel Curry, Buford, Ga.
CB Jonathan Mincy, Decatur, Ga.
DE Joel Bonomolo, Fullerton, Calif. (juco)
S Demetruce McNeal, College Park, Ga.
DB D.J. Howard, Lincoln HS
WR Antonio Goodwin, Atlanta, Ga.
OL Chad Slade, Moody HS
DL Kenneth Carter, Greenville HS

I guess I need to post my question again. Did Owens say he was not going to commit on Friday?

    ReplyDelete
  5. A substantial get for the staff!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anonymous2:46 PM

Make an announcement I should say.

    ReplyDelete
  7. AU1 ...

All indications are that we will not commit Friday.

  8. I've heard conflicting reports re: Ownes.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jet, i've never had a bad Marta experience. of course, i have only used it to go to the Dome for sporting events.

    ReplyDelete
  10. But Jet is correct in his statement.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Scottie, that only means you're due...I've had my fair share.

    Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nice job, Seanzie!

Yes, you were right, Eddie. I love that show. Once you see episode 4 the song at the end is for you. Also, when the Molly says, "I changed my mind." I bout lost my mind laughing.

  14. Owens will delay his decision.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous2:48 PM

    MARTA is fun, especially late.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous2:48 PM

What was the reasoning for the delay?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Scottie ...

New Year's Eve night is not the night to get on MARTA.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cool, I listen for it Mon.

AU1292- It seems that Auburn coaches have requested he delay it, but I could be wrong. I believe it's a cat and mice game going on.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not an ATL fan.

    ReplyDelete
  20. AU1: I have amended the blog entry to reflect that at least one source (ie ITAT) says Alabama and Clemson offered Carter as well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The MARTA Experience ...

There's nothing like wondering if the drunken 19 year old next to you who's wobbling like a Weeble is going to Ralph on you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. j-z - to answer your question from the previous thread...yes. I decided to stray away from the chocolate pics for a while. Maybe I'll break out a new AU design to kick off the season. Btw, that concert was like stepping back in time. Had a blast!

    ReplyDelete
  23. yeah, New Year's is probably not a high point in the whole Marta experience. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jet, if that's the worst ride you've had, be glad.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey at least I can fly in straight from Toronto to watch AU play in SECCG... once a year for the next six years.

Yep I said it. Twice. This is a repeat from the comments on previous blog.

Ya'll left me behind there all by myself.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jet: I hopped on MARTA at the Vine City stop (SW of the dome) at 1:30ish on New Year's ... and had no traffic problems.

The Georgia Dome stop is/was a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Monica, I agree with you, ATL is no bueno.

    ReplyDelete
  28. carter actually had an offer from alabama, but shortly after his announcement Rivals changed their site

    ReplyDelete
  29. I third the ATL experience. I hate it, but unfortunately I live here also :(!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous2:54 PM

    Thanks Capt!

I know it is irrelevant but I think it is a bit of a feel good when you beat UAT for someone they wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  31. By the way, Kenneth Carter intends to take more visits. I don't think he's a firm verbal at the moment.

But I'm glad he's in fold. We are rapidly reaching the pre-senior-season AL top 20. Kenneth Carter is 19th.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous2:56 PM

Someone made a good point, if Rivals does that, why are they considered legit?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous2:57 PM

The Richardson WR commit is impressive. (I know I talked trash before, but that was just smack, you know.)

I've often wondered why neither Alabama (until recently) or Auburn had more solid players at the wide positions. Auburn's had some good ones in the near past, but last year was rough.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've heard conflicting reports on why Owens is holding off on the announcement. The first is that he wants to wait until after the season to see which way each program (Auburn and Alabama) are headed. The other is that the AU coaches want him to hold off on the announcement to possibly counter a CJ Moseley commitment to Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous3:01 PM

Salsa - It would be really impressive if they also pull in Reed. Then you have a corp of receivers.

    ReplyDelete
  36. How would you rate this RB. Lets call him RB-A. He has not played prior to his Junior season. Here are his junior season statistics:

    Rushing: Attempts- 103.
    Yds - 674.
    Avg - 6.5
    TDs: 14.

    Passing: Attempts : 26
    Yards : 328.
    Avg : 12.6
    TDs: 3.

    Punt returns: 8
    Yards: 184 (23 yards / PR)
    TDs : 2.

Total yards in all capacities: 1186

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous3:07 PM

    What level of competition?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Here's RB-B. - been playing since FR.

    Year - attempts - yards - avg - TDs

    FR - 141 | 1282 | 9.1 | 17
    SO - 247 | 2810 | 11.4| 33
    JR - 390 ! 3504 | 9.0 | 52

    Yes. 52 Touchdowns rushing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So Jay G's cohort at the Advertiser picked UA to go 8-4...I doubt that will sit well with the Tahd fans.

    ReplyDelete
  40. RB-A plays in one of the most competitive league. RB-B plays in a comparitively lesser compeitive league.

RB-C. Plays in one of the most competitive leagues in the country:

Played soph and Jr. Here are just the jr stats:

    Rushing : Att-241 | yds=2646 |
    avg =11 | TDs = 35

    rec : Att-12 | yds = 219 | avg = 18. TDs = 3.

    total yards : 2865 - tds: 38.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Without more information to go on, I'd go C - B - A ... though A may have a lot of upside because of his relative inexperience.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well Rivals has RB-B as a 4 star

    ReplyDelete
  43. RB-A is Cory Grant.. ranked #10 in the country with 678 yards rushing (about 50 yds / game)

RB-B is Traylon Shead - UTexas commit - ranked #20 in the country with 3500 yards rushing. That's like 250+ yards every game.

RB-C is D.J. Jones. #15.. from Texas (Denison).. 190 yards / game. and he doesn't even have an offer from UT.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 50+ TDs certainly grabs attention.

    ReplyDelete
  45. A = Hoopie
    B = Eddie
    C = Michael

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous3:25 PM

    How about this -

    RB - "T"

    Sr. Year only
    # Carries - 225
    Yards - 2290
    Avg. - 9.29 per carry
    Y/Game - 290
    TD - 26

    He's 5-11, 225lb. 0.5% body fat

    Large high school, good competition.

    Any guesses?

    ReplyDelete
  47. We have a HOTTIE on the ground only a few miles from this D.J. Jones character.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd love to see a human being with less than 1% body fat.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous3:27 PM

    Dang typos.

    2.5% body fat

    My bad

    ReplyDelete
  50. Remember that Lance Armstrong is at 4% body fat.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous3:28 PM

    Interesting for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Salsa, I'm not hating ... but please tell me you have more up your sleeve than elementary pro-Alabama rhetoric.

I have higher expectations for you.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Carnell only had 2,600 yards and 38 TDs as a senior.

I'd say he was an SEC-level player.

I'm just talking about Trent Richardson's senior year stats. I find them impressive.

Is he the be all end all? No one knows yet. However, in a stat discussion about RBs, I thought his were quite impressive.

    Check him out here

All that to the side and in spite of his goofy comments, Lache Seastrunk looks to be a very, very solid player that I hear is very close to committing to Auburn.

Personally, I like it better when Auburn and Alabama are both good. Makes the rivalry more than just smack talk.

I joke about Auburn being toast all the time because it's what the rabid fan in me wants, but I know better. Cycle of the Wearwolf, no?

    ReplyDelete
  56. good day Hotties

all this talk about RBs makes me feel like i need to drop my usual pro Fannin post....or as i like to call him...Mario Speedwagon.

Carnell Williams was a big miss for Alabama and a big get for Auburn.

Is he going to recover and continue his NFL career? I hate to see that dude blowing knees because he was good even if he played at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  61. i think its going to end up on tshirts this year. too good to pass up.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Is that even healthy?

    ReplyDelete
  63. no and I don't even believe Armstrong is at 4%. I wouldn't believe until I saw hydrostatic, DEXA or something like a BodPod measurement.

    I call poppycock.

    ReplyDelete
  64. salsa / maucho gaucho dude

    Quit embarrassing yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Salsa RE your 2:57 comment
There's a LOT of things that were rough about last year. Recievers may have been one of the lesser rough things. or not.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 2% is about as low as a human ca go without being infirmed.

If Lance Armstrong needs 4% and he's not hitting people at full speed, I'd say Trent Richardson either is being misrepresented by Salsa or will have limbs torn from his body within two weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. its a good thing El Toro is workin with -0.5%, he eats kids named trent for breakfast.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Here's to Trent Richardson joining Emmitt Smith's club - running backs from Pensacola who never gained 100 yards against AU.

    ReplyDelete
  69. According to this facebook group, AU is charging for some tailgaitng spots now:

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=105348016047

Anyone know anything about this? wtf?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I remember Eddie George had something crazy like 4% bodyfat. If you have enough muscles, you don't need much fat, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Armstrong has 4% body fat now. The number used to be lower.

"I mean, I was 3 percent body fat. I was in the best shape of my life." -- Lance Armstrong in 2006

    ReplyDelete
  72. Michael,

There was a press release about the tailgate thing earlier today from the Athletic Department.

There will be an area reserved on the east side of the stadium for those that wish to pay in advance for their tailgating experience.

    ReplyDelete
  73. 4% bodyfat is possible and healthy, although it is extremely difficult to maintain. less than 4? well, that's like professional bodybuilder the day of the show lean.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I would love to know how all these people are measuring their body fat.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i was a Health Promotion major at AU and had every exercise-testing class you could take. we took body fat calculations all the time. wait, that doesn't sound good does it?

  80. I had a scale that claimed it could tell me my bodyfat, but I think it used witchcraft.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I was worried about my body fat, so I started a diet of bacon, butter and mayonnaise, and I got it fixed really quick.

    ReplyDelete
  82. The tailgate issue has been blown out of proportion.

Only a small section has been zoned off for paid tailgaters.

    ReplyDelete
  83. somone the other day mentioned that tony richardson played football in europe. was that high school ball and, if so which one? i played a year in kaiserslautern.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i have been reading on a couple of other sites that say Coach Luper said to expect several commitments over the next week or so, is there an interview that has that in it somewhere, or is that just hearsay?

  87. Jet - Turn OFF your Yahoo please!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. re: tailgating.

Seems reasonable to me. Old people and rich people don't want to box out for tailgating spots, so they'll pay to avoid the hassle.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Tailgate Guys ... non-story.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anyone seen Rollison's facebook profile pic? It's actually quite creepy. He's shirtless, pants down pretty far, snapping a picture of himself in the mirror with a camera phone. Anywho, he don't have much body fat. I'm just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  91. the guys over at Auburn tron were pretty pi....upset about it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. How do these offers go?

Do teams offer a kid verbally and then follow up with a letter confirming the offer?

That would be the way I would handle it if I were running the show, but I am not sure how it happens in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Michael, that scale you talked about sounds like something from that movie Thinner....i would avoid it.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Jet has just given me a BRILLIANT idea for a business when I move to Alabama. You're the wind beneath my wings, Jet!

    ReplyDelete
  95. tailgate guys - a slipper slope!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Did I understand correctly that you can still buy full season tickets for Auburn games without the yearly donation?

If so, what is the ticket number?

Anybody be interested in buying about six of them from me? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  97. yeah, i think the thing people are so upset over is, even though they took only a small area, some people might have been tailgating there for many many years and now they cant...at least not for free. I guess its the school's property so they can do what they want. i can understand the tailgater's side though.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think you have to donate for season tickets. So put the money up, FSJ!

    ReplyDelete
  99. So if I buy the tix...do I then become an Auburn booster?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yes. But you are already an AU t-shirt owner, so is it really a big deal to make the jump to AU booster?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Just wondering when I could put my new booster status to good use..

    eheheheh.....

    ReplyDelete
  102. Kind of surprising no one has tried that before... being a booster for the bad guys and getting caught on purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Apparently they are $395/ticket in various parts (upper deck & endzone) of the stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Who said they haven't?

    BWAHAHAHAHAHHA!

    ReplyDelete
  105. was there a rumor about that very thing with julio and a fishing trip or somthing?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Nugget, I guess I don't see the tailgater's side.

It's the university's property. They can do what they want. It would behoove the university to keep fans placated, sure, but here's an opportunity for them to make a significant amount of money while angering only a smattering of fans.

    ReplyDelete
  107. smattering = BBC word

    ReplyDelete
  108. There is nothing morally wrong with charging people for using your land, it just makes it less friendly to joe schmo fan.Sports across the nation are becoming more and more for the well off and less and less for the "true fan".

I am fine with a small section for people willing to pay, but I fear Auburn will get greedy and screw things up for the average fan in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  109. If you are coming to the Biscuits game tonight, I will be one of the people working concessions for the benefit of our school band program.

Hopefully I will be working the register ... Would you like to try our new super duper hot dog? ... Would you like that in an extra value meal? ... Would you like fries with that? ... How 'bout a nice ice cream cone?

    ReplyDelete
  110. No Jay G., i don't think its a big deal either, a much bigger up side for the school, i was just saying i can sympathize with the folks that lost their spot. times are a little tougher than usual, money is a bit tighter, but hey at least you go that good tailgate spot for the home games this year....oh...wait...crap.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Thank you, please come again.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Jay G ...

Way to pull out "behoove" and "smattering" in the same comment. Very good.

    ReplyDelete

  128. Mi Madre is a harmonious sort. She doesn't dislike anyone; it's all about better and best.

I'm not going to blog about the tailgating situation. Seems like you all are basically at peace with the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You can say it is about better and best, but better is really worst since there is nothing below it. Just saying. Someone has to be the worst.

    Who is it?!!

    ReplyDelete
  130. New tailgating situation seems to be a nonissue. According to the e-mail, "the paid tailgating zone will only occupy the new campus green adjacent to the stadium. This area was a construction zone until recently and thus virtually no one will displace."

    ReplyDelete
  131. She never says.

It's just so-and-so is funny, etc.

I went to BestBuy this weekend to get Boogie Nights on Blu-Ray. They didn't have it in stock.

    Two hypotheses:
a.) People in Montgomery have exceptionally good taste in cinema and purchased all copies.

b.) BestBuy sucks and would prefer to sell garbage like The Incredible Hulk instead.

By the way, I don't think anyone would have Boogie Nights on Blu-ray. Did they not have it on DVD either?

  135. Jay G.

I feel the same way about the summer of 1997 as you do about your summer of 1986. Cash money, on the table, right now!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I disagree with the "no one will be displaced" idea... seeing as we were displaced.

I think my biggest issue is, who is this totally random company "Tailgate Guys" and how did they get the gig? Was it open bid, were they lowest bidders, are they Jay Jacobs and El Presidente themselves looking to make a killing on the overly rich and snooty who rarely tailgate anyway, thus forcing true tailgaters further off campus?

I will also liken this new venture to the thought that weed is a gateway drug that leads to bigger and badder things... this too will get worse for us fans.

    ReplyDelete
  137. In honor of the mention of Boogie Nights, I have just one question to everyone in here.

So, how much can you bench?

    ReplyDelete

  144. Anonymous7:09 PM

DMiller..I read the Tailgate guys stuff. If the rented spaces stop at that then OK. As you introduced, something tells me that the "gateway" has been opened for more of this.

You do have to wonder about how those "Guys" got the gig and who sets reservation priorities and pricing. The web page says "call for pricing" instead of having it listed. If this was above board, then why wasn't the business opportunity advertised? A lot of folks would jump at that chance.

This is a small area of the entire campus and it is perfectly located for a VIP area. I know some folks that had longstanding tailgate tradition in that area. They will be able to move on, but that still doesn't make it right.

My question to the university is: Was is this necessary?, If so, why? If not necessary, then especially why? Here's some unacceptable answers: the need to raise $$$ or to fill a VIP need. Doesn't leave many reasonable answers does it?

    ReplyDelete

I wasn't aware that DEXA has anything to do with body fat

    And when the music plays
    And when the words are
    Touched with sorrow... great song!

I still haven't forgiven Prechae. Talk about going from 60 to 0... I had such huge hopes for the first blowout of UA-T since 1969. The game was pretty lousy after that play.

  158. Hoopie,

Summer of 97, I was 20 and had just gotten out of a long relationship, so I got to enjoy the summer just hanging out with friends and enjoying the things that I had missed out on for the past two years. Just a fun fun time.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Unfortunately nope. But can I take a raincheck?

    ReplyDelete
  160. awww that's a shame and OF COURSE you can take a raincheck

  161. I miss getting my weather info from Mary Gamarra (Telemondo) in the mornings.

    ReplyDelete
  162. from some post somewhere today..
Salsa - nice idea, but I can't imagine ACC taking SC back as quicky as SEC would take Tech back. Why would anyone want SC?

SECCG - i really hate indoor football. There are no weather conditions that would make me prefer indoor football over outdoors. I think the tv camermen outvoted me.

  163. No I don't know Spanish, but we both know the universal language of looove.....

    and weather maps.

    I think I need coffee.

  164. I'm going to have to call it a night pretty soon. I ate a HUGE plate of BBQ, slaw, brunswick stew along with a large bag of puppies in between my release from prison and a meeting tonight. MrsTHT didn't get my message, so when I got home after 8 I had to eat fried chicken, purple hull peas, sweet corn, fried okra, and cornbread with maple syrup. My seams are about to split.

    ReplyDelete
  165. aero - you've got me curious. I may have to check out the weather forecast tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  166. THT,
I want to live your life. You always eat such great food!

    ReplyDelete
  167. My sister seriously led me astray. I had been saving calories to splurge on a Dairy Queen Butterfinger Blizzard. She convinced me that the Butterfinger Blast from Sonic was better. WRONG!!! Such a waste...

    ReplyDelete
  168. Sonic over DQ??
    NEVER! That's ice cream blasphemy!

    ReplyDelete
  169. I LOVE me some DQ Oreo Blizzards.

Cincy - the purple hull peas and corn were so sweet. YUMMY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Just tell me how I can eat all of that and keep my 4% body fat :) Is it possible to only have 4% muscle? Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  171. Anonymous9:46 PM

THT....there's always room for Ice cream.

We dropped by Bruster's after Moe's. That meal, on top of the Japanese cuisine for lunch, made for steller Monday meals.

My steller meal day rates as average cuisine for THT.

Oreo Blizzards are a fav. Actually....Wendy's now has Oreo Blizzards that suffice as a 2nd or 3rd choice.

Italian food = canoli for dessert

Mexican or Oriental food = Ice Cream for dessert

All others = Carrot Cake, German Chocolate Cake or Pecan pie for dessert.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I am aboot to have ice cream with hot fudge and sprinkles...mmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  178. Ice cream is my favorite choice for dessert, no matter the meal (including breakfast!). Lemon pie (made with Borden's condensed milk), apple pie, and banana-free banana pudding are acceptable options if ice cream is unavailable.

    ReplyDelete
  179. me too! minus the sprinkles.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'm trying to watch my weight, so I forgo the sprinkles

  181. NEWS ALERT: Slim Jim production has resumed 6 weeks after the only Slim Jim facility in the country partially blew up. I don't think I've eaten one of those in almost 40 years.

  182. I check my body fat by seeing if I can pinch an inch on my forehead. If not, I'm good.

  183. Drove to AU this evening with another load of furniture as it might rain Tuesday in Montgomery.

Drove slow it took about an hour to get there. Pulled up to the apartment and discovered the key wifey gave me did not fit.

Not a good evening in AU. Locksmith was happy though.

  184. an "Official Proclamation", because here on my street, it is now Tuesday!

    T-minus 39 days till kickoff!

    HAPPY BILLY ATKINS DAY!!!

In memory of this Millport, AL, native who was named the MVP of the 1957 National Champions. Yes, he botched a 19 yd FG attempt that would have won the 1958 Senior Bowl, but don't forget that Mr. Atkins was Auburn's all-time scoring leader when he left for a career in the pro ranks. He started in the NFL with the 49ers, then moved to the AFL where he played for the Bills, Titans/Jets, and Broncos. His best years were with the Bills; in 1961 he was an AFL All-Star, leading the league in interceptions (10) and leading the league with a 44.5 yd punting average. After his pro career, he coached Troy State to a NAIA National Championship! Sadly, Mr. Atkins passed away in 1991. But today we celebrate the memory of his great achievements and realize we're one day closer to kickoff!

Honorable mention to Memphis State transfer Kurt Crain, an Auburn All-American linebacker in 1987. I believe he is currently on the coaching staff at USA in Mobile.

    WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
    GO TIGERS!!!

  185. nice cruitin' job by the coaches lately. AU is getting ready to blow up if we get any QB play! i've been busy with new employment, which is welcome change but unfortunately infringes upon my HABOTN time until they get me my mobile device and i figure out how to use it.

i gave a WDE to a guy at cafe du monde in the quarter over the weekend.
