Days to kickoff: 11

Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:

11

Wow. There's way too much talent for this day, so let's get started. Just remember the rule... Academics come first.

HAPPY WILLIAM EUGENE CODY AND TRAVIS TIDWELL DAY!!!

Bill Cody was born in Greenwood, Miss., and arrived at Auburn via Orlando, Fla. He was one of Auburn's most outstanding linebackers. "Wild Bill" was a unanimous selection to the 1963 All-SEC Sophomore Team. He was first team All-SEC linebacker as a junior, and again as a senior. He was also first-team ALL-AMERICAN as a senior in 1965. Similarly, the Education major achieved Academic All-SEC honors in 1964 and 1965, and ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN in 1965.

On October 30, 1965, the 7th ranked Florida Gators entered Cliff Hare Stadium with junior QB Steve Spurrier at the helm. Auburn fell behind 10-0 at the half, not earning a first down until less then 3 minutes to go in the half. I'm sure Coach Jordan had some encouraging words for his team in the halftime locker room. The Tigers, behind the leadership of second string QB Alex Bowden, quickly matriculated down the field for a TD early in the 3rd quarter. On Florida's first play from scrimmage after the kickoff, Bill Cody graciously accepted a Spurrier pass and returned it 29 yards for a score. In the 4th quarter, the Auburn defense pressured Spurrier into surrendering the ball, and All-American Cody pounced on it in the end zone for another TD.

The Tigers ate the Gators up that day, 28-17.

After completing his Auburn education, Bill Cody was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions. After one year in the Motor City, he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in their expansion draft. He spent 4 seasons in N'awlins. He didn't play in 1971, but apparently was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings. Records show he was traded from the Vikings to the Eagles prior to the 1972 season for the Eagles' 1973 10th round draft pick; Cody spent his final pro year in Philadelphia. I know he spoke last year at an Auburn Club meeting that also featured Coaches Tuberville, Rhoads, and Franklin. Otherwise, I'll have to rely on the Hotties to fill us in on Mr Cody's current whereabouts and activities.

OUR SECOND OFFICIAL HONOREE:
* Travis Tidwell: Born 2/5/1925 in Florence, AL, Travis Tidwell is one of only two freshmen to ever lead the nation in total offense, earning that honor in 1946. He also led the nation in total offense as a senior in 1949 and was Auburn's career total offense leader until Pat Sullivan established a new standard. As a quarterback in the T-formation, Tidwell engineered the Tigers to an Iron Bowl win over the heavily favored Tide in 1949 by the score of 14-13. He was a first round draft choice of the NY Giants. In his 1950 rookie season, he entered a game with the Giants trailing the Baltimore Colts 20-0. Mr. Tidwell led the Giants to a remarkable 55-20 comeback win. He spent two seasons in NY, then played in the CFL, coached at Auburn, and later sold insurance and stocks and securities. Travis Tidwell was the first Auburn player to be named Senior Bowl MVP. He also played centerfield on the Auburn baseball team which also featured 4-sport star Erk Russell as first baseman.

In the 1949 game vs Mississippi State, Tidwell ran over a DT by the name of Jerry Clower, dragging him 27 yards and rendering him unconscious, all the while reportedly running backwards. You can listen to Jerry Clower's version of the story starting at the 5:50 mark of this recording.

HONORABLE MENTION

* Karlos Dansby: All-American linebacker in 2003 and two time All-SEC, Dansby was a finalist for the Butkus Award and was named the Atlanta Touchdown Club Defensive Back of the Year. He was the field general of Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik's 2003 Tiger defense which ranked 5th in the country in total defense. Mr. Dansby is currently a NFL star with the Arizona Cardinals. He began his Auburn career as a wideout.

* Phil Gargis: Outstanding veer option QB who led Auburn in rushing and in total offense in 1975 and 1976. He had a fantastic game vs UGA in Auburn in 1974, one of many memorable trips I took with THTSr to watch the Tigers play. I think Gargis had 160 yards rushing that day in Auburn's nail-biter 17-13 win.

* Stan White: Four-year starter and Auburn's all-time career leader in total offense and passing yards. Stan also earned Academic All-SEC honors in 1993.

* Mac Champion: Earned a letter and a national championship as backup QB in 1957. Later became a Hall of Fame high-school coach.

    thanks cincy

  2. Jay, Can I get the coach magazine in bham or do I have to order it?

    ReplyDelete
  3. fantastic day #11. love it.

if you ever get a chance to watch the '100 Years of AU FB' dvd it has a great interview with Tidwell about the 1949 Iron Bowl. he was a pretty funny dude.

    ReplyDelete
  4. El Turbo says:

"Happy Karlos Dansby Day! Celebrate by tackling random pedestrians. Bonus points for Bammers."

    ReplyDelete
  5. Cincy 2, THT 1 today so far. This could be a nail biter.

WTC- Yes I am to your previous thread question, you can find my facebook on my blog which is in my blogger profile.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cincy: If you're going to BAM anyway, you can check. I don't know if we're distributing up there. My guess is that we ARE, but I can't guarantee it.

I can guarantee the magazine is available online.

    ReplyDelete
  7. THT gets extra points though, because he can work and post. I am a bum. I just play.

    ReplyDelete
  8. My dad was in the AU band and on the Plainsman staff when Travis Tidwell was our QB.

When people would talk about who was Auburn's greatest player, the hairs on the back of his neck would rise if anyone didn't mention Travis Tidwell.

It was kinda like the barbershop scene in "Coming to America."

    "Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano!"

    ReplyDelete
  9. Happy Kevin Gentle & Kenny Kelly day everyone!

Dansby, the only LB quick enough to cover both the QB and the RB on an option play in 2002 against Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  10. One of the wonderful benefits of being a kept woman

    ReplyDelete
  11. For you Weezer fans, they have a new single up on iTunes this morning.

It's called "I Want You To."

    ReplyDelete
  12. RK ...

I think ElTurbo counts that as his favorite AU play ever.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Freakout mode!!! 11 days

    ReplyDelete
  14. THT,
I love reading about these players. You say you are just getting info off of the web, but you are doing all the research and just putting it out there for us to feed on. Thanks again. I loved the Jerry Clower piece.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know if you'd seen it or not, but the new Weezer CD is titled "Raditude", apparently they got the name of the album from Rain Wilson of the Office.

    ReplyDelete
  16. whew! I feel better. Actually, right now, I am at work. But that doesn't mean I'm working ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. eddie, check you FB mail.

    ReplyDelete
  18. When Michael shows up, I have a confession to make.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jhag ...

What class are you in now?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Facebook has a "Hide All Alabama Fans" function.
I wish I had one of those in real life!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jet,

I don't think I've ever seen a LB stand there on an option play all alone and still be so under control and have the ability to get the QB or the RB.

As I mentioned in the other thread, Dansby also had that great jumping interception and lateral to DT in the Peach Bowl in 2001.

    ReplyDelete
  22. technically, it was an illegal forward pass. But he can throw it any which way he wants as far as I'm concerned. He got a trip to the ESPYs for that play.

    ReplyDelete
  23. HAHAHA I was in college algebra, now I am in study hall

    ReplyDelete
  24. THT- Actually, it couldn't be an illegal forward pass, because he would have to had possession of the ball which would have required him to get a foot down in-bounds, which I'm pretty sure he didn't, did he?

    ReplyDelete
  25. ElTurbo did object to us getting a female dog. He wanted a boy so we could name it Dontarrius Dansby, and call him "Karlos."

    ReplyDelete
  26. Karlos, Man of Love...for all you Rodney Carrington Fans.

    ReplyDelete
  27. THT, if you remember Auburn took a penalty for the illegal forward lateral, however that doesn't negate the interception and change of possession as the ball nor the player ever landed out of bounds.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That makes sense RK.

    ReplyDelete
  30. i'm debating on going to see 'The Wallflowers' here in downtown Knoxville this saturday nite. just $21.50 a ticket. i think i'm in.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Eddie ...

Here's the old officials' joke about after a flag is thrown.

    REFEREE: "Whatcha got?"

OTHER OFFICIAL: "I don't know, but it looked wrong."

I presume if he had thrown the ball backward toward our goal line, he would have been golden. Instead he tossed it forward. Either way, an incredible play.

    ReplyDelete
  32. cincy, I'm here. Did you kill a man? What is your confession?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Memory is hazy. Did UNC retain possession?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd be all over that Scottie B.

    ReplyDelete
  35. yes Eddie, he was ruled to have possession, i.e. he caught it, then threw it forward (all while in a state of suspended animation)... as oppposed to batting it to DT which probably would have allowed UNC to retain possession.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm listening to Jerry Clower now. He always makes me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd go see the Wallflowers for $21.

They've remained pretty relevant in my view. "Rebel, Sweetheart" was an awesome album.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Scottie, if my wife's foot feels better I think we're going to that show too. She broke two toes yesterday accidently punting the bed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. All this time I have read about you and Jan Terri nonsense. I just thought it was some inside joke among the ROF members or something. Finally goggled her (I think she is a her) and watched her videos. Oh my gosh! That is one strange person. Now I understand you a little better.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I must say my attitude turned incredibly sour in 2001 after Carnell got hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  41. yikes RK. i'm guessing she shanked that punt, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'll never understand Michael. I think that's the beauty of it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. We did keep possession on that play...not that our offense could do anything in that game.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jet,

Once Carnell went down on his 5th carry against Alabama, I knew it was going to be a long day.

I had a bad feeling about that game all day to the point of being sick...nowhere near as sick as I was after the game though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. yeah, i wore out their album 'Breach'. loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. As far as officials and Flags, i'll never forget the Arkansas game in 97. We were getting called for holding while Arkansas was getting away with murder for the same thing. I was a cord guy for my Coach Trickett at the time during games. I remember the ref taunting Trickett by smiling at him and mock pulling the flag out of his pocket. I had to physically restrain Trickett from going out there on the field several times durning the game. The ref continued to do that. After the game, Trickett bolted to the refs as soon as the clock hit zero and was suspended one half by the SEC for that. Refs can definitely be crooked. Just thought I was share my Ref story.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Scottie,

From the look of her foot when we took her to the ER yesterday I'd say she didn't shank it, but punted it out of the endzone Duval style.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ha, well I am sorry you or anyone thought Jan Terri was meant to be an inside joke, cincy. She is a joke/amazing talent that should be shared with everyone. I realized yesterday we hadn't talked about the real life Jan Terri in quite awhile around here. We shouldn't let that happen.

Any other inside jokes anyone needs explaining? After all, I would hate for HABOTN to be accused of being cliquish.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It just added to the mystique of HABOTN, Michael.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Did anyone except me watch the ESPNU replay of 2008 LSU V AU. It gave me a quick refreasher in how weak Tood's arm was last year. It also reminded me that he will run it for positive yards if that what the D is allowing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The worst feeling an Auburn Fan could ever have occured during that 2001 bama game when they played Rammer Jammer in the 3rd quarter of a rout at home. That is as bad as it gets.

    ReplyDelete
  52. the Clique Mystique.. I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. To me the worst ref call is the spotting (moving) of the football on our last drive in B-ham in 1994 down 21-14. Horrible call.

2nd would be the non-inbounds, non-catch by Dan Stricker at Vandy in 2001 where Tub ran to the endzone to argue.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The "Tim" references died when Anon died. That is one of the other Inside Habotn jokes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. RK- I can't remember the exact play, but the 2007 game at Florida when Tubs got completely Irrate was a bad call, I just can't remember the call or play.

    ReplyDelete
  56. wade - i don't pay enough attention to tv schedules to know when those replays are on. even so, my heart gets ripped out with almost every AU loss, so I certainly wouldn't have watched '08 AU vs LSU replay.

    ReplyDelete
  57. we've covered this before, but '78 UGA game in Auburn had enough bad calls to last a lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jet, I agreed with your comment in the last thread. everyone left, though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. but any bad call that costs an IB win tops them all, a la the 1967 game.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, when Boom is the voice of restraint on the sideline, dragging Tubs back, I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jay G,

I posted a version of this post at some other point. Anyway, Can you link our RoF induction posts to our names on the home page? Except Michael's. Link Jan Terri's youtube page to that.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Since Big Snacks references it ... I'll repeat it.

    ---

Some wonder why my attitude toward UAT is the way it is.

I got a reminder today as I was drving to work, punishing myself by listening to the morning talk show.

A caller, presumably an everyday sort, was trying to weave together a ridiculous pretzel of logic that perhaps "The Love Boat" cruise of Julio, Ingram and the Friend, Not Booster sailed into international waters and thereby outside the jurisdiction of the NCAA.

Nevermind the boat departed and arrived from the good ol' U.S. of A. Maybe they'll want to secede from the Union every other time they want to break a rule.

How about this? Acknowledge the players shouldn't have done it ... suspend them for a game like AU did when Burger and Thompson went on a hunting trip and be done with it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous10:08 AM

Eddie, this is what you are referencing

Tubs losing his mind is always entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tar Heel, I changed the channel when LSU's QB threw the TD as Adam Herring took him to the ground. It was all I could stand.

    ReplyDelete
  65. you're much stronger than I, wade. I might could have made it through the replay opening kickoff

    ReplyDelete
  66. That was it Sensi, Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tub getting fired up like that got the D fired up when they took the field after that.

    What a great game.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am lovin' Travis Tidwell's orange jersey and blue lid.
So which game do we pull out he throwback uni's?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hopefully never, orange jerseys deserve to be thrown back and never used. I love our jerseys as they are, no gimmicks needed.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I like our unis. I consider them among the best in college football. I do not hate the orange jerseys, though.

    ReplyDelete
  71. When I think of Orange jerseys, I think of the generic ones they sell at WalMart and Target.

I just don't like gimmick jerseys, like UGA's blackout and every game that Oregon plays.

    ReplyDelete
  72. UT has used the all orange look before, I remember it burning them against Memphis a few years back.

    ReplyDelete
  73. the b/w photos I've seen from the 40s suggest pants were dark, i.e. navy, not tan or white. Can anyone confirm? I could live with a former official AU uniform like that, but not just a switch to orange jerseys for the sake of an orange jersey. No way!

    ReplyDelete
  74. guess who gets to go home early from work today? Yippee!!!

Maybe I can talk THT2.0 and THTJr into lunch at Sutton's Drug Store...along with the 25,000 UNC students that just got back in town.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Frankenbummer: I may be able to do that. Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Though I can't remember if we did a formal induction for the first class.

It was more like: You guys are great. Here's a new tag for you.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would love to see a "throwback" game where we actually wore replicas of those old unis. Not the 1/2 arsed throwback from a couple of years ago where we took off the helmet stickers and wore grey facemasks.
I'm talking travelin Travis Tidwell orange jersey and blue helmet.
People, there were other Auburn uniforms before 1957...

    ReplyDelete
  78. yippee! I'm down for a Sutton bacon cheeseburger and onion rings with a diet cherry coke.

    you weren't fired were you?

    ReplyDelete
  79. PF, I clicked on your link and my eyes melted out of my face!
    That's horrible!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. The first class didn't have an official introduction? We should write some.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wow, it has taken me a long time to catch up over the past few days but I'm throwing my 2 cents worth in on yesterday's topics.....

The cow college t-shirt thing doesn't really personally bother me much. It actually brings back sweet memories! As I've said before the bumper sticker I got as I was walking out the gates at Legion Field that great December night in '72 were hot off the press:

    Cow College 17
    Chicken Bone 16

I was ever so PROUD to be a student of this so called COW COLLEGE. Poor Bahr so embarrassed to be beat by that ole cow college. It was true bliss.....

But with that being said the connotation of cow college brings such joy to bammers and I prefer to see them miserable therefore I vote no and besides they are ugly!

    ReplyDelete
  82. The first RoF class seemed to talk a lot of football... I think most of since been turned off by what HABOTN has become. Kind of like how my friends and I used to go to the rope swing in Tuskegee and then a lot of people learned about it and started leaving beer cans everywhere and crowding it and stuff. Darn kids.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous10:54 AM

So, what are you saying, michael?

    ReplyDelete
  84. yeah, goob, Oregon has always been good for melting eyes...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Boy Wonder!!!

    The Human Deer!!!

    TERRY BEASLEY!!! #88

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous10:55 AM

Wait...I had to read it a couple of times to understand what you were saying 'cause there's a typo in it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  88. Will, who was removed from the front page would love today's #11. His dog's name is Dansby

    ReplyDelete
  89. As always, not really saying much of anything, Luv. Just commenting on how the atmosphere has evolved since last year's two-a-days. I personally like the way it is, but I am sure some people don't.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It is a scientific fact that every 30 seconds, some dudes on a cruise ship somewhere are singing the SNL song "I"m on a boat!", and they think it is hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  91. THT, what kind of manners have you taught this child? 2.0's trying to take credit for my Beasley post.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Michael- it doesn't have to be on a cruise. It can be your buddy's pontton on Lake Martin and they still think it's hilarious. I do not

    ReplyDelete
  93. PF, your Beasley post, how shall we say this... lacked Beasley substance ;-)

btw, that was 2.0, but this is THT on 2.0's puter.. just walked in the door and just fixin' to head to Sutton's for lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Maybe I should update my scientific fact as such:

It is a scientific fact that every 6 seconds, some white dudes on a cruise ship or ski boat or some other floating vehicle somewhere are singing the SNL song "I"m on a boat!", and they think it is hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  95. MJT ...

    That should cover it.

    ReplyDelete
  96. So true Michael, so true.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Might I add, it's a sad day when work comes between me and the HABOTN. I die a little inside. Anyway, back to the grind.

    Keep hate alive!

    ReplyDelete
  98. THT...the rules of substance, as have been stated before, only apply to the first post of a thread. After that, it's fair game.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oh yeah, secondly, orange/blue thing,my input.........

we is what we is: orange and blue but who in the world keeps screwing with the shades?

Are we not burnt orange and navy blue?

Why on earth can't we have true burnt orange....you know rust colored, not the crappy faded stuff UT calls orange or the bright clown orange of FL or even the light burnt orange of Texas.

Sometimes they even mess with the blue. I don't care for some of the blues people use. Too bright and it gets Floridy. Royal blue is closer but not right either. How hard is plain navy blue?

Burnt orange and navy blue are classy.

I'm through ranting now. I will shut up and now try to stay caught up with the program.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Good call missinit.

And PF, I hope you don't take offense that I believe the less substance there is in the first post, the better. If I could somehow actually extract substance from the readers' brain instead of just not enlighten them, I would.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Oops, just one more thing....

Jay G. I LOVE your new avatar. She is a doll! And how old would your princess be?

    ReplyDelete
  102. PF - tried last.fm -ACCESS DENIED. Luckily I was able to use the one Mon sent (and they haven't blocked that one yet)

    ReplyDelete
  103. I hate that ESPNU is covering our first game...it's only available on DISH in the 250 package and to top it off it isn't HD.

    ReplyDelete
  104. According to Wiki:

Auburn's colors of burnt orange and navy blue were chosen by Dr. George Petrie, Auburn's first football coach, based on those of his alma mater, the University of Virginia.

AU Graphic services even list the specific orange and blue to use for Auburn related things

    ReplyDelete
  105. That's funny, I never have noticed the similarities between our school colors. Nowadays I think their blue has more of a purple shade to it than ours. Maybe my eyes are being tricked though.

    ReplyDelete
  106. glad you found one that worked mr.td

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous11:57 AM

Seanzie, come on down to the Plains and watch it in person then!

    ReplyDelete
  108. michael....I've got the tricky eye syndrome too, I agree bout UVA.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Gotta love the interwebs:

From Virginia's athletics site: Orange and blue were adopted as the University of Virginia's official athletic colors at a mass student meeting in 1888. UVa athletic teams had previously worn silver gray and cardinal red, but those colors did not stand out on muddy football fields, prompting a student movement to change them.

One of the students attending the mass meeting was Allen Potts, a star athlete who played on Virginia's first football team in 1888. Potts showed up at the meeting wearing a navy blue-and-orange scarf that he had acquired during a summer boating expedition at Oxford University. Orange and blue were chosen as the official athletic colors after one of Potts' fellow students pulled the scarf off Potts' neck and, waving it to the crowd, yelled, "How will this do?"

    ReplyDelete
  110. after reviewing UVA's website, I declare their blue to be legit...the official orange, too, though there are definitely some inconsistencies with the oranges used.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hey everyone, JGT's blog is nice!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Your blog also uses broken english.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Dang, after working offsite half the day yesterday, it took me forever to read all the comments posted since then - some good and funny stuff, sometimes at the same time! As I've done before, I'll have to agree that I hate when people use the wrong orange and/or blue for AU. One time I was at the beach and need to buy a couple of coozies. The store I was in had two AU versions, one in our correct colors and one in UF colors. I actually ended up buying both because it was easy to tell them apart. Since that trip, I've probably used the one with the right colors hundreds of times, but rarely pick up the other one.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Personally, I prefer the MJT and Harrison duet, "I'm on a Blog."

    ReplyDelete
  115. Jet,

Your post was nice. Thanks for making a post. My post is about your post.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Herry, looking forward to hearing your favorite AU stories. I'm sure they'll be nice. By the way, AU stands for Auburn University, which I believe is somewhere in west Georgia, USA.

    ReplyDelete
  117. FYI: Advertiser insiders tell me the Coaches Confidentials are not at retail just yet. So don't look for them at BAM today ...

    ReplyDelete
  118. WERK, you just cracked me up!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I want to go open a nice blog now.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Anonymous12:27 PM

C'mon, guys. Give Herry a break. He's from Bangladesh. His English may be not be the greatest, but he was trying to give Jay G a compliment.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I know we have varying opinions on the orange jersey thing but professionally speaking, it's all in the "color" of orange that we should use that would make it or break it..

Orange is the complement of blue, that's the main reason our uni's look so striking. We do have one of the best looking uni's out there. In my opinion the best.

And professionally speaking, the stripes never need to be messed with.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Luv, I'm guessing he posted that same comment on multiple blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  123. RK ...

I'm OK, You're OK ... that there the way it is.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anonymous12:36 PM

The guy likes to blog. Maybe he was blog browsing and thought he'd stop in and pay Jay G a compliment.

  125. Tis true, he is spamming blogs, Luv.

    ReplyDelete
  126. seriously luv? take it easy on the spammers?

    ReplyDelete
  127. ...and this guy doesn't blog. he compiles lists of newspapers. blogging requires thought.

    ReplyDelete
  128. He does blog. He likes to blog. Have a look at his blog.

    ReplyDelete
  129. PF, I can assure you that not all blogging requires thought.

    ReplyDelete
  130. WERK, you're killin' me! I'll bet Herry is missing all of this while he's out having cocktails with Feng.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I bet he was put up to that by some puppets

    ReplyDelete
  132. True, Mikey. I get this blog in my feed called Die Before You Die, and I'm sure that a computer just pulls random bits of data out of that guys brain and complies them in a way that they appear to be thoughts, even though it's clear that they aren't.

    ReplyDelete
  133. See Herry blog. Blog, Herry, blog.

  134. "I want you to understand where you are at.......All we're trying to do is keep it great..." Chizik with 'the talk' at JH.

Just went on auburntigers.com and saw the all access video from the scrimmage. Lots of freshmen action!

    Whatchallthink?

    ReplyDelete
  135. I have discovered that I never need to go more than 12 hours without HABOTN again. I just spent the last 90 minutes catching up. I hate UAT very, very much right now.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I also hate The IROD.*

    * -- new name for UAT ... The Irrational Republic of Doublewidea

    ReplyDelete
  137. missinit- I did enjoy the scrimage video that was on the site. I have a feeling that is what we can expect on the new tv hit show, "Auburn Football Everyday".

    ReplyDelete
  138. That video was nice.

However since I don't get CSS, I guess I'll miss out on the reality show thing.

    ReplyDelete
  139. you people need to get back to work

    ReplyDelete
  140. but I'm supposed to have the afternoon off

    ReplyDelete
  141. isn't there some yard work you could be doing for Mrs. THT?

    ReplyDelete
  142. I read the article that Jay linked in a recent blog that listed people's predictions for the season. The consensus to me appeared to be 8-4. That seems a little optimistic to me. I would consider 7-5 more likely.

Then I noticed someone predicted 12-0. I am not sure what they based that upon, but when I make predictions I think of what I would be willing to place money on. Sure, I would bet Auburn wins 7 games, maybe even 8. But I want to meet the guy willing to bet we win 12.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Monica- i thought you knew THT doesn't do manual labor

    ReplyDelete
  144. though, THT has been known to change a light bulb on a rare occasion, provided the AC is on full blast.

    ReplyDelete
  145. 2.0 He has made claims that he does yard work. Are you here to tell us that he, in fact, does not????

Next you're going to tell me he's been fishing with Julio Jones!

    ReplyDelete
  146. I thought he and Julio were down by the school yard?

    ReplyDelete
  147. THT- unless you want your true, delicate, and sensitive nature revealed to all of HABOTN, i strongly encourage you to make a online transfer immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  148. It is ease to tell it is football season on al.com. The idiots are in full bloom.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I have done yard work, frequently under duress. There is no yard work to be done today.

However, there is a light bulb that needs changing.

btw, I checked out 2 books from UNC library:
50 Years of College Football, and
Anatomy of a Game: Football, the Rules, and he Men Who Made the Game

    ReplyDelete
  150. HA @ delicate and sensitive...

I bet I can come up with some ways to exhort money from THT.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Wow, straight to extortion, pretty interesting family there THT.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Wow! Good job, THT. You're actually going to read the books?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I love to see inter-family blackmail on HABOTN. It is part of what makes us unique.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I will have my assistant read them to me since I can neither read nor write.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Michael - Does it warm your cockles?

    ReplyDelete
  156. PF - that blog you linked to earlier is the perfect example of a moron blabbering nonsense and still making tons of money doing it, since it is such a popular blog. Well, maybe not tons of money. Maybe not so popular either. Is 20 non-author hits a month considered popular on the internets these days?

    ReplyDelete
  157. I just noticed that THT's countdown got some love from an outside source.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Monica, that is a personal question. You can have that question answered and many more by subscribing to my newsletter. Just email michaelsnewsletter@jleepel.com with the subject "cockles" and send a check for $100 to me, and then you will be fully enlightened.

    ReplyDelete
  159. What exactly will I get for my $100?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Michael - you may just be looking at the next HABOTN!!!. There were barely 20 visits/month on HABOTN in the not too distant past. And look how rich JayGT is now!

    ReplyDelete
  161. It sounds like Michael will show you his cockles for $100.

Unless he finally went through with the surgery and he is, indeed....uh...nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Hola Hotties. Here I am stuck in the middle of nowhere Cali where it's still a desert and it's still hot and it's still a boring little town. Other than that I'll say that your comments are nice. That's for putting your comments out there.

    Keep Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I met Mac Champion while my sister was going to Lowndes Academy. He is a legend in those parts because of the success he had as head football coach as well as playing an integral part in the formation of the AISA.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Coincidentally Frank McIntosh is a football coach at Lowndes nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Mond - you get enlightenment! You can't put a price tag on that can you? Well, even if you can't, I can, and it's 100 smackeroos.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Norm Abrams - very nice!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Somehow I wonder why Michael was never hired as a writer for David Letterman? They appear to be soul mates.

    ReplyDelete
  168. The check is in the mail.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I just saw something hilarious. According to a study, the top three cities for worst teeth are:

    Biloxi, MS
    Huntingdon, WV
    Mobile, AL

It just goes to show how much truth is behind every stereotype.

    ReplyDelete
  170. ehyou - how you and PF (I think) figured out the last one I don't know but I was right impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Jet - your reference to "I'm OK, You're OK" brought back a memory of our Senior year and having to read that horrible book.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I just remembered that in some of the posts I had to go back and read from yesterday, there was a discussion of rat caps. Both of my grandfathers graduated from AU in the 1930's. My maternal grandfather's (Class of 1938) is framed and hanging on my aunt and uncle's wall. I remember him telling some stories about snatching of rat caps. I think the biggest deal was if you could snatch one from a Georgia Tech "rat". On another note related to that grandfather, he was on the AU swim team and is pictured in the Lovelace Museum in a group shot of that team.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Ehyou, if you live in Lowndesboro, I bet you know (or are related to) a co-worker of mine. I mean, there can't be too many folks from Lowndesboro.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Scrolling might just be death of me. Can we hurry up and get to a new page so I don't have to scroll to read all the enlightenment from you people?

2.0, congratulations on a successful extortion of THT. However, I might be more impressed if you were to somehow convince him to share his ice cream.

    ReplyDelete
  175. DMiller...
I believe Lowndesboro has a population of 150.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Miller - I'm here to help if I can re: scrolling. As far as Lowndesboro is concerned, I think there are 9 people from there.

    ReplyDelete
  177. D.Millier- THT can't share that which he doesn't have.... the ransom has yet to be paid.

    ReplyDelete
  178. There may be a total population of 150, but it's made up of only 3 families.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Ahhh...there it is.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Yeah, that's what I thought it was too.

    ReplyDelete
  181. It's getting close!

    ReplyDelete
  182. Can you smell it?

    ReplyDelete
  183. I have a sinus infection and that's not preventing me from smelling it.

    ReplyDelete
  184. The scroll-free zone is just around the corner!
