Days to kickoff: 16

Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:

16

... and by WarEagleRK, who penned our fine report.

Mobile native Dameyune Craig played at Auburn from 1994-1997, getting his first significant time as a sophomore in 1995 as a backup for Patrick Nix. Terry Bowden used Craig in many short-yardage situations and almost exclusively as the goal-line quarterback to take advantage of his speed and to prepare him to be the starter the next year.

Craig was a two-year starter, leading us to a disappointing 8-4 record in 1996 and a win in the Weedeater bowl in Shreveport.

However in 1997, Craig was the man, even receiving some early-season Heisman talk until a loss to Florida and a still-unexplained 20-0 defeat at home to Mississippi State helped derail those dreams.

In 1997, he set an Auburn record with 3,277 yards passing and led the team to the SEC title game (vs. Tennessee) and a 10-3 record. Craig was responsible for 79% of Auburn's offense that year as the team averaged less than 75 yards rushing per game. If Auburn didn't have Craig under center, they would have struggled to get to six wins and a bowl game. Nonetheless, they finished one point short of an SEC championship.

Craig went on to a brief career in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers. He still holds the professional football record for most passing yards in a game, when he threw for 611 yards playing with the Scottish Claymores in the NFL European league.

So everyone tip your HABOTN hat to a true warrior of the gridiron and a man sometimes carried Auburn on his back for two years to 18 wins.

HONORABLE MENTION:

* Greg Taylor: A diminutive WR from the early 90s.

* Daniel Cobb: Holds the Auburn record for most TDs passing in one game (5) in 2001 against Louisiana Tech.

* Rob Bironas: Current NFL All-Pro kicker who spent one season at Auburn (then moved on to Ga. Southern) in 1998 before being beaten out by the inconsistent Damon Duval and his 1999 blonde hair. He was an All-SEC selection during his one year on the Plains.

  1. I think I already hold the record for getting in the last post of a thread.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I haven't heard anyone say they didn't like Craig. That dude was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Will never be first, so I'll try to dominate being last.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Coosa, you're right about 4 INTs not being the record.

I saw an Auburn player throw 4 INTs and it wasn't Daniel Cobb.

    ReplyDelete
  5. didn't Brandon Cox throw 4 or 5 against Georgia Tech in 2005?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Scottie Burns is CORRECT.

Also, to soothe jhag's anxieties from the earlier thread, Auburn will play a lot of nickel until Freeman returns from his ... hamstring injury.

Yeah, that's it. Pay no attention to the hard cast on his right hand.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Like the Tigers themselves, We need to infuse more young players into our three-deep.

Would anyone like to nominate a HOTTIE for "Notable Newcomers?"

    ReplyDelete
  8. I thought 4 was the record, but I was mistaken. Wow, 7 in one game!!!

Cox also threw 4, I think twice both vs UGA.

Cobb did throw 4 vs LaTech in the game where he set the TD record.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Harrison - i haven't finished my 20 oz DC yet, so my snarki detection is a little off.

For the love of Pete, I find no evidence of how I got the guy at #15 for tomorrow, so he's going back to the # where most will recognize him. That's going to make for a very crowded day early next week.

Will go to Plan B for tomorrow. Maybe I'll take it and just mail in.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm going to clean up our Hall of Fame today.

Gotta weed out the people we've lost along the way ...

  12. Brandon Cox had three 4 INT games, all against schools from Georgia.

    ReplyDelete
  13. JGT...
Unless there was a name change I'm unaware of, Chip deserves to be on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The 79% of AU's offense by Craig was a NCAA record at the time. Does it still stand?

    ReplyDelete

This is old news (it's news to me, though) because the email was sent to my coworker on the 14th, but my coworker told me that Colonial Bank got seized by the feds and that Lowder will probably have to serve time for insider trading and bank fraud.

    What have you Hotties heard?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous9:59 AM

Memories of the Peach Bowl against Clemson. Craig was rolling out of bounds, turned, and fired a bullet to Rusty Williams (I think it was him - #3) who tip-toed it on the sidelines for a huge gain.

Craig was a man. No doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  17. WERK - I found this on WikiAnswers so I have no idea how accurate it is yet...

"The NCAA Division 1-A record for passes intercepted in a game is 9 and is held by John Reaves of Florida. The game was against Auburn in 1969."

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have not heard that about Lowder.

ehyou: Noted! Chipchip is a valued member FO SHO.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Luv- Compass is no more. Owned by BBT out of N. Carolina i think. Also haven't heard that about Lowder

    ReplyDelete
  20. meant Colonial, not Compass

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous10:03 AM

The wife of the person that sent the email works for BB&T, which is a subsidiary of Colonial Bank. Her position is pretty high up and they are afraid she's going to lose her job.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous10:05 AM

Compass was bought out by BBVA, which is a company in Europe. Another coworker's husband works for Compass.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You mean the reverse, don't you Luv? BB&T owns Colonial now after the FDIC takeover.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Per the OFFICIAL 2007 NCAA®
    DIVISION I FOOTBALL
RECORDS BOOK for Individual Records: MOST PASSES HAD INTERCEPTED
6—Bruce Lee, Arizona (10) vs. Auburn (34) (Sun,
    1968) (6 of 24)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have a friend that left Colonial before all this happened. He looks like a genius now

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous10:07 AM

My coworker was wrong about BB&T being a subsidiary. You were right, Harrsion, BB&T apparently bought out Colonial on the same day as my coworker got the email.

    ReplyDelete
  27. man, Bruce Lee had a really bad day throwing the football. that's probably why he decided to make kickA kung fu movies instead.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous10:09 AM

Harrison, did he know it was coming?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I believe that Junior Rosegreen holds the individual Auburn record for his 4 vs UT in Knoxville in 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who was playing D for Auburn if Bruce Lee threw 10 interceptions, Chuck Norris?

    ReplyDelete
  31. scottie did you really just say that?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sensi,

Rusty Williams was # 3 and I remember that play well.

That game was the last time we'd see a good offense for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous10:14 AM

So, let me get this right.

Michael Vick organizes illegal gambling and is cruel to/kills some dogs and serves 2 years in prison.

Plaxico Burress carries a concealed unregistered firearm into a nightclub, shoots himself in the leg (way to go Barney Fife), and he's going to serve two years as well.

Donte Stallworth gets liquored up, smokes some weed, drives, hits and kills a PERSON in Miami and he serves 20 something days.

What the blue blazes is wrong with that picture?

    ReplyDelete
  34. luv- I don' think he saw it coming because he kept his stock in Colonial which is worth nothing now. He just got a better offer. Lucky I guess is what I'd call it

    ReplyDelete
  35. wow I can't believe Jason Campbell had the 13th best Passing Effeciency record in D1 history!

    270 Att.
    188 Cmp.
    7 Int.
    .696%
    2,700 yards
    20 TD's
    172.9 points (.9?)

    ReplyDelete
  36. yup. sho nuff said it Monnie.

    buh-bye INT's.

    hello 'Enter the Dragon'.

    ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sensi,

It doesn't make sense, but balanced justice isn't something that happens. It all depends on the state, the judge and how good your attorney can manipulate the system.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey, Sensi,
You ok with me? Not sure I am thick skinned enough for this blog. I can't stand someone thinking I would be mean on purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cincy, I'm 100% sure Sensi is OK with you.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I had Craig in a class that I was a TA for. It was a Brush with Greatness (tm)! And he passed it, too.

And I worked for Colonial Bank one summer.

And I once intercepted a pass!

    I own the thread!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous10:21 AM

It's all good. My cynical sense of humor comes off wrong when I respond to that.

    You are top notch, Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. did i miss something? do we need a big hottie group hug?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow, David, so many claims to fame!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous10:22 AM

    Monica,

JCampbell always had good touch on the ball and could thread that thing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I intercepted former (at the time current) UT quarterback Andy Kelly when I was in 7th grade.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous10:24 AM

Did you take it to the house, RK?

    ReplyDelete
  47. My bammer neighbor just called and invited me to an Auburn - Alabama party to watch the game - in case I decided not to go to the game. What is he thinking??!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't do well watching games on TV with the opponent. And especially not the AU-UA game!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Cincy, tell him you won't watch the game with him but you'll be running through his yard with toilet paper afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Could be bad when Auburn beats Alabama. His company is the DJ at a Christmas party I am planning for just a few days after the game.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I worked for Colonial for 4 long, long years before being caught up in one of their well known layoffs. I was happy to be shed of that place.

    Keep Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I intercepted a note from Chester Mooney in 1st grade that said he had a crush on Ruthie Bell Cooper and Chester was made at me for it.

I think I own the thread.

that's a real story with real Brewton names

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous10:30 AM

Those were the days huh RK?

    ReplyDelete
  54. "Alabama coach Nick Saban is expected to address Upshaw's situation later today."

    That ought to be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cincy! You're on a sports blog where you are one of 8.4 chicks among 3,294 males. You DEFINITELY need a thick skin.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Monica,
You're right! What was I thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous10:34 AM

Very few folks at Colonial will keep their job. The higher up in the org, the more likely...

Colonial has a mortgage office in one of our shopping centers. We are already looking for a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cincy - They lull you into complacency...
    It's diabolical really.

    I'm here for ya. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. that 1968 Sun Bowl game was awesome. Buddy McClinton, AU's consensus ALL-American db had 3 of those INTs. David Campbell, AU's All-American DT also had a great game. But the 2 punt play by Connie Frederick is what I'll always remember most about that game.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Very sad how you can be on top of the world one minute and in the dregs the next. I do hope this turns out to be more a case of incompetence and bad decision making than fraud.

    ReplyDelete
  61. THT were you at that game?

    ReplyDelete
  62. '69 UF thought they had the best passing combo in John Reaves to Carlos Alvarez...at least until they played the AU sophomores, Sullivan and Beasley. The 9 INTs by Reaves were downright hilarious. AU stomped the gators 63-14. I was very happy that day.

    ReplyDelete
  63. (give him some room, people)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Mon - nope, never been to El Paso. But I was glued to our TV set.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Does anyone remember was the 1982 Tangerine Bowl? We beat Boston College. I remember we had gone to Richmond, VA to visit my in-laws and they had to rent a hotel room for us to go and watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Here I was worried about the Offensive line and now we can not field a complete set of Linebackers. I hope some of this is smoke screen by Chizik. It will be IMPOSSIBLE to go through our schedule without more injuries, we can't even get through two-a-days without injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  67. THT, i think we need to take a weekend, grab a few cases of cold refreshment, and relive the 60's & 70's of AU football. that would be a good time.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Mr Tate,

I nominate Chocolate Scott, even though he's a douchebag. I think Aeronaut belongs in there somewhere, if he's not on the front page under another name.

    Your pal,

    j-z

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wait, Scottie B, can we include the 80s also? The 60s are kind of fuzzy, even if I am turning old this month.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I vaguely recall the Tangerine Bowl.

Anyone messes with Cincy, it will be met with swift reprisals. And I'm not talking about U.N. inspections.

    ReplyDelete
  71. That Boston College game was quarterbacked by Doug Flutie, but that was before his famous hail mary pass. At least I think he was the QB.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Are we talking sanctions, Jet?

    ReplyDelete
  73. cincy - of course we remember!!! We were living in Winston-Salem at the time. Watched the Tangerine Bowl in our apt at 303 Pershing Ave. (neither the apt or the street exist anymore; that whole block was eventually swallowed up by the neighborhood hospital). I still hate we gave up those 16 points in the last 2 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by "doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God."

And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.
    -George Petrie (1945)

Dang...I just get misty eyed and verklemt every time I read that.

    War Eagle.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's all good. And I think that would be a great theme song for Auburn this year. Although I'm not sure of all the words - some might not be appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jet

are we talking hanging like a puppet?

    ReplyDelete
  77. sure Cincy, the decade of the 80's belonged to the 4-time SEC Champion Auburn Tigers. should've been NC's in '83 too. oh crap, why did i go there?!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous10:52 AM

Cincy, we don't do well watching the games in mixed company either. We are either at the game or watching it on tv by ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  79. j-z, that is what sets Auburn apart from every other school. My daughter made me memorize the creed when she went to Auburn.

I didn't realize that most schools don't have a creed.

    ReplyDelete
  80. j-z I just love reading that over and over. I hope the coaches require that as reading material for every player that comes to Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  81. THT, I think you are getting your year's mixed up. The 9 int's were in 69, but AU won 38-12. The 63-14 game was the next year in Gainesville.

I can still remember details from 40 years ago when I was a kid, but can't remember what happened a few minutes ago. I think its an early sign of Alzheimer's.

    ReplyDelete
  82. JayGT - IV is verynotable, and honored newcomer.

and you can scratch my alter-ego, Dr Habotn off the list. A "drive-by Hottie" got his panties in a wad, telling me I shouldn't give out pseudomedical advice since I wasn't a physician. Omnica then named me HABOTN Team Physician so I could legally dispense medical nonsense. I keep the title on standby for whenever someone needs an aspirin.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh, Scottie B, you shouldn't have gone there! We were at that Sugar Bowl. I couldn't believe it when we were jumped for the National Championship. I'm with you - it still makes my blood boil.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Who is four tenths of a woman?

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm thinkin' about puttin' on my flight suit again, and escortin' the bombers anywhere they need to go.

And we won't be lettin' any terrorists out of prison so he can die in Libya like is happening across the pond.

I am highly disappointed in my Scottish cousins.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

'cept when we touchin them with pads on the field in which case we hope to be cultivatin a worlda hert that brangs happiness to the Auburn Family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Probably need to find a spot for AUNugget on the front page too, IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  88. coosa, you're absolutely right. I was very happy both days!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I believe in the forearm shiver that rattles one's teeth and hatin' Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous10:56 AM

Cincy...'82 Tangerene Bowl....we jumped on them early and the AU stands erupted into a giant party with whiskey flowing.

Can't recite the X's and O's as to how it happened (I was partaking), but a sophomore Doug Flutie just keep scrambling, scoring and got close to a comeback. Most of the partying fans didn't even realize that BC was coming back. We won.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I look forward to the day when I see Hoopie post imbibe and share a look of fained disgust with Mrs. Hoopie.

    Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  92. j-z, you're stealing my thunder. OOPS! I didn't mean to give out any secrets.

    ReplyDelete
  93. just curious if there are any Hotties who haven't yet partaken of an Iron Bowl in person. My first wasn't until my sr year (prior years conflicted with the more important Turkey Bowl)

    ReplyDelete
  94. JayGT - Great LB article, btw. We're going to miss that kind of writing when you've moved to Bristol.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Coosa just got to tell you about a young baseball team.
The Coosa Allstars came from behind and advanced to today's 12 year old Cal Ripken World Series final with a 3-2 win Wed. against California. This is a bunch of kids from around my area here in Rainbow City and surrounding area.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think we're all being sympathetic when we scream "Ooh Damn that hurt" when we knock the opposition's receivers unconscious during the game. I also think we're being mutually helpful when we sack bama's qb 57 times in a game. We'd be doing him a disservice not to teach him his role in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  97. anyone rememer Pedro Cherry's number? 84? 15? something else?

The dude was extremely smart, could have gone most anywhere on academic scholly. Unfortunately, he was permanently smitten with injuries at AU.

    ReplyDelete
  98. 1982 Tangerine Bowl ... sat in metal bleaches in one of the end zones ... front row.

The next morning, having slept about 20 minutes, I drove a friend's car from Orlando to Auburn with three players -- David King, Tracy Turner and a walkon. I took the wheel somewhere on the Turnpike when my friend started weaving.

My friend and David were heading south after that to Fairhope. My dad was so pumped that David King was in the house that he wouldn't let them leave, and wanted to grill out steaks -- even though they he had already had supper.

    ReplyDelete
  99. i thought it was pretty clear who was .4% of a woman PF.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I love hearing everyone's memories - especially about games I just watched on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Don't ask me about the game, though.

    ReplyDelete
  102. October 16, 2003. We were huge dogs to Florida. Back and forth in a very funky, foggy mist. Packed stadium. My Dad has had had season tickets on the 50 yard line, row 23 under the press box for forever and he ditched his buddy so I could go. We beat the Gators 38-35. Nobody would leave the stadium. It was magic.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous11:21 AM

I wish my memory was as good as all of yours. I've been to a lot of games, but don't remember them. I can't blame it on the alcohol either because I don't drink on game day. Maybe it's due to all the alcohol I consumed in college.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I fondly remember that Tangerine Bowl, as it was the first Bowl Game for AU in a long time. It also followed the 23-22 victory over UAT, if I remember correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  105. the '94 LSU INT game was the 1st game my entire family went to together. we sat in the west upper deck. that was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  106. CSS showed the replay of the 04 LSU game. It was my now wife's first ever Auburn game. I watched every minute of it again too

    ReplyDelete
  107. wasn't it Fred Smith that basically bear-crawled in from the 5-yard line? the announcer kept yelling his name? AUsome.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anybody remember the reports from the UT locker room after our victory in '04? Erik Ainge was extremely upset and threw his helmet across the room. It was intercepted by Junior Rosegreen.

    ReplyDelete
  109. As for Notable Newcomers, I can't believe I'm the first to mention PaulMain. He's notable for...well, you know.

    ReplyDelete
  110. oh, sorry. i was talking about the '94 LSU game again.

i was working at at UK football game and had to miss the '04 LSU game. i VHS'd it and watched it when i got home.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I went to that game Scott. That was a good weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  112. you'll see Junior Rosegreen every now and then on the local news intercept random passes at UT football practices. it's just too easy.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Scotochoc - I like your new piece.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Congrats to your team digger! I'm a little further down the river.

    ReplyDelete
  115. One of my favorite away games that I attended was in '86 against MSU. They were unbeaten (6-0, I think), but AU went over there and beat them something like 38-6. I think Fullwood had a big game for us. I drank so much rum and coke that I thought I was going to fall off the upper deck. I also somehow came home with my very own Mississippi driver's license.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wow...I've never done that. Are you serious about the driver's license?

    ReplyDelete
  117. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Now THAT is a story I'd like to hear!

    ReplyDelete
  118. that made me snort in case you were wondering

    ReplyDelete
  119. '94 LSU game where Chris Shelling had 18 tackles.

And our offense that game less productive than last season.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think paulmain, or at least his avatar, goes straight to the ROF.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Sensi,

My int of Andy Kelly went for approx 4 yards before I was brought down. However, I was pretty proud of myself for picking off the starting QB of the beloved UT Vols in a 7th vs 8th grade scrimmage where he was the "celebrity" QB for the 8th grade.

As for my favorite road game that I attended, that's a tough one. I can narrow it down to 2002 Iron Bowl, 2004 in Knoxville or 1999 in Athens.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Fred Smith (6) did the funny dance in the end zone when Ken Alvis (9) crawled in from the 5

    ReplyDelete
  123. j-z, that depends on why you're asking.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I can't decide whether Del McGee was a bad DB, or just bad compared to Shelling, Robinson, Smith & Alvis.

Teams seemed to pick on McGee a lot during those years which caused several outbursts of rage from me.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Shelling and Robinson were All-Americans. Fred Smith was very good. I'm guessing McGee wasn't quite as bad as he seemed. In that company, he deserved to get picked on.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous11:47 AM

I think my favorite away game was '07 against FL. We got tix on ebay and they were in the alumni section. Brett Eddins and his mom were sitting in front of us. Every time Brett said, "F***!" his mom admonished him.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Never been to a bowl game.
Fave road game would be LSU 1993
Fave Iron Bowl - 1995, first one with Greg

    I don't do Tuscaloosa.

    ReplyDelete
  128. HA good story, Luv

    ReplyDelete
  129. Hmm. Favorite Road Game's i've attended:

2004 UT game was about tops for me, especially since we took them to the woodshed and i'm from Chattanooga.

1999- UGA Was awesome, but 1997 was sweeter since they had just beaten Florida.

1999 LSU was fun on many levels.

2000, 2004 & 2006 Bama games were enjoyable, but not as fun as they should have been.

    ReplyDelete
  130. that is a good story, Luv.

Fave road games. Didn't we do this earlier this summer? Let me see if I can google it up.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Anonymous11:51 AM

The most heartbreaking away game was LSU, that same year.

  132. 04- UT was my fave road game, especially if you guys should have seen how much s*** talking we were getting from Vol fans

02 Iron Bowl- After hearing Ronnie and Caddy were out, I expected us to losy by 2 TD's. Awesome game and i stayed at a former Miss Alabama's apartment that weekend

    ReplyDelete
  133. fav road game: 1997 @ LSU. my buddies and i were on the front row at the goal line and were on ESPN 3 times. D.Craig led the winning drive and all was right with the world. i've never been cussed out by more strangers in my life but worth every one.

fav away game day experience: 2004 SECC in ATL. picked my buddy up at the airport at 6am, hit IHOP, then straight to the Dome to start tailgating b4 going to College Gameday. what a wild ride that day was. ha.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Waddup yall, a few LSU games have been heartbreakers lately.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Most Heart breaking away game was 2002 @ Florida for me, unless you count 1996 Iron Bowl.

Worst loss witnessed away- Georgia 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Eddie,

The only good thing about the 00 Iron Bowl was the win. That was some horrible weather to have to sit through. Miserable.

    ReplyDelete
  137. dang you Harrison! you had to mention Miss Alabama and ruin everybody else's stories.

    ReplyDelete
  138. THT... Thanks for the nomination. I am a very humble human being. I have been here such a short time and there are others far more deserving than I. WAR EAGLE, hate a Bammer a day.

    ReplyDelete
  139. worst road games- I went to LSU and UGA in 2003. Those games were over by the end of the first quarter. vomit

    ReplyDelete
  140. The 1994 Iron Bowl to end the win streak was the hardest road game for me.

The hardest home loss I've had to sit through was the 2001 Iron Bowl.

The most heartbreaking was either 02 vs UGA or 03 vs Ole Miss.

    ReplyDelete
  141. sorry scottie b- if it makes you feel better I didn't make out with her, but I wanted too!!

2000 Iron Bowl was the coldest I have evr been. ever!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Worst away game = '95 Outback Bowl

We got whipped bad and it rained the entire game. Tampa to Auburn was a looong trip after that one.

    ReplyDelete
  143. whew. ok, i feel a tad better. thanks Harrison.

MOST PISSED AT A LOSS : '97 MSU

MOST EMBARRASSED AWAY : '08 VANDY

    MOST MISERABLE OVERALL: '01 BAMA

    ReplyDelete
  144. hey ScottieB - I saw you down there in BTR in '97. We were 2nd row from top in upper deck, about even with the goal line where AU scored winning TD.

We'll be back in upper deck this year in BTR. The last time we went we were about 20 rows up in end zone. I love end zone hockey. Football...not so much. I called ticket office a few months ago and found out they assign away tickets based on "closer is better." I prefer to be up high where i can see what's going on.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I forgot about 2003 UGA, that was hard, very hard game to sit thru.

Most heart breaking home loss was definitely 2002 UGA. We had that game and the SEC Championship game in our grasps in what would have been a rematch with Florida, and we were playing some damn good ball at that time.

Worst Home Loss- Bama 2001 was ugly, 1999 hurt because it was first home loss and Arkansas insert year.

    ReplyDelete
  146. The Capitol One Bowl against Wisconsin wasn't much better than than the Penn State Outback bowl, just the weather.

    ReplyDelete
  147. which miss alabama?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Craig is one that lived up to the hype. Those have been rare for Auburn QBs.

    ReplyDelete
  149. most pist at a loss '79 @Wake Forest

most miserable experience '99 and '01 Iron Bowls, especially '01

most disheartening home loss - would have been '96 UGA, but i knew AU was gong to lose that one, and couldn't bear to see it, so I didn't go. MrsTHT went solo; is she a great woman or what!?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Guys, wouldn't it be awesome if our offense could take some pressure off of the defense...My favorite home game was Florida 01, and Georgia 06 I think. The year Cox threw the long pass to Devin. Sorry, I'm bad with years.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Last year's Iron Bowl has to be the most embarrassing loss. That is the first Iron Bowl I can remember where it looked like we simply quit. Maybe it was just fatigue, but after we missed that field goal before the half, we were done.

    ReplyDelete
  152. There was also that Arkansas game where they ran for over 400 yards against us. I can't recall the year, maybe 2006.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Favorite Iron Bowl? 1957 of course. 40 to 0 Auburn on one of the coldest days I ever spent watching football. This was before they built the end zone seats at Legion Field. There was a strong North wind blowing and it seemed to have sped up as it entered Legion Field making it like a NASCAR wind tunnel. Student ticket cost $1.00. The Alabama stands started to emptying after the first quarter and the Auburn unfaithful started to leave at halftime for a warmer clime. I stayed for the whole game, I never leave a football game before it is over. I did however, go to the rest room at the half and had a hard time making myself go back out in the cold. It was also my first and only father-son IB. He passed away too soon and we never made it to another one again. He had wanted to go to an IB for a very, very long time. I am so grateful I was able to take him that once. Fond memories that I can never forget.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I was also at Ga Tech in 03, now that was bad...I was on the faculty bus behind the players and this guy "mooned us" and had roll on one cheek and tide on the other. Not sure why he was at that game but a Bammer never fails to surprise. Oh yeah, this guy in spandex and a ten speed was also flipping us off at an intersection.

    ReplyDelete
  155. we didn't win a single home game my freshman year. After AU was top 10 the year before, I found that more than a tad disappointing. I think some of my ripped out and stomped on heart muscle is still under the J-H turf.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Thanks for the article on the linebackers, Jay. It is the biggest question mark these days.

    ReplyDelete
  157. BigEz- That's nothing, go to an LSU game. In 1999, while riding the team bus we were flipped off by a ton of LSU including kids that were probably no more than 5 years old. We were also mooned by several and when the bus came to a stop the LSU fans rocked it.

On a side note, I did enjoy my Cigar after the game.

    ReplyDelete
  158. EZ,

I was also at the GaTech game in 2003, and we had to almost restrain someone from going after a Tech band member who strolled into our section and was playing their fight song at us. I guess that's a tradition there, but I can guarantee it wasn't appreciated.

    That was a miserable game.

    ReplyDelete
  159. IV- You get my nomination for Notable Newcommer. I love your perspective from someone that has followed and loved Auburn for as long as you have.

    ReplyDelete
  160. That GT game in 03 was extremely frustrating, but I think it had more to do with USC than anything else. The team had their reality check cashed early.

    ReplyDelete
  161. this thread has became depressing. my apologies. who's ready to whoop some LA TECH butt?

    HATE BAMA. :)

    ReplyDelete
  162. IV - I would give more than one body part to see AU win another IB in that fashion.

To best of my knowledge, '87 Iron Bowl was my dad's first. Rocker & pals totally shut down #18 Tide for the 10-0 win. Getting there was an adventure. Flight from Greensboro that morning was cancelled. Landed in B'ham near kickoff time and went airborn numerous times in cab on the way to Legion Field. The next year my dad & I were back with THTjr (age 2.5) in tow. That was a great one, too!

    ReplyDelete
  163. The earthquake game was another huge disappointment. We lead pretty much the entire game 6-0. Once it got into the fourth quarter I could see what was coming. All we needed was to find one more field goal along the way. We had plenty of chances and didn't. That 7-6 loss really stung.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Ok different list, where all have you attended games at, here is my list to the best of my memory:

    Tennessee
    Kentucky
    South Carolina
    Florida
    Georgia
    Vanderbilt
    Mississippi
    Mississippi State
    LSU
    Arkansas (Fayetville Only)
    Alabama
    Virginia
    Georgia Tech
    Peach / Chick-Fil-A Bowl
    Citrus / Capital One Bowl
    Independance Bowl
    Music City Bowl
    SEC Championship Game
    Sugar Bowl

I'm probably missing some, but that is my list.

  165. Mon- 2004 Miss Alabama. I guess she hadn't won it in 02 yet.

I went to a very small high school that produced the 2000 and 2004 Miss Alabama

Last year's IB is the only time I ever remember quit watching a game. Most of us went to another room and didn't see anything past mid-3rd qtr.

Most fun away game..'79 win at UGA..no sugar for the Dawgs.

Most abused by opposing fans...'80 or '82 at Gainesville. Students dumped cooler water on us each time.

Most weird situation...Austin, Tx in'91...3 Texas fans hosted me for the Sat. night game in which Texas was favored...AU won 14-10 and.....let's just say that it was not a situation in which cheering would be tolerated.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Eddie, how many of those were you in the stands for?

    ReplyDelete
  168. RK, yeah, the faculty seats were right behind the AU band at Bobby Dodd and I remember a few members of their band coming over and playing the song. It looked like the AU band expected it, they then turned around and then let them have it. Eddie, they rocked our bus at Ga Tech after the game and hit on it and we got a few "RAW TAHDS" from some sorostitutes which was weird.

    ReplyDelete
  169. THT- 14 of those places I had a ticket in my hand and sat in the stands.

    ReplyDelete
  170. WHEW - My cousin was Miss Alabama 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  171. The GT game had everything to do with our offense being very predictable. Look back at the game, if the FB or TE are on one side, the play is going to that side. Nallsminger never tried to trick anyone.

    Stadiums I've been to.

Every current SEC stadium except SC and Fayetteville. (I've been to Little Rock)

    GaTech
GA Dome (6 times 3 SEC title/3 Peach)
    Shreiveport
    Music City Bowl
    Orlando (2 times)
    Tampa (once)
Fulton County Stadium (90 Peach Bowl)
    Legion Field (4 times)

    ReplyDelete
  172. On another note, I avoid LSU like the plague and Arkansas is just too damn far to drive too and i'm too cheap to fly.

    ReplyDelete
  173. i bet a 3rd Miss Alabama probaby the 2003 version, couldn't have resisted my charm and dashing good looks.

OK...this is one of the reasons I'm dumb...I just noticed that there is a connection to the jersey numbers of the players listed on this blog lately and the countdown to the season opener.

I'm almost embarrassed to mention that I just noticed that, but then again, none of you know me. :)

At any rate, it's a brilliant idea Jay...

    ReplyDelete
  175. I too was at '00 IB. It was miserable weather but fortunately our seats were covered by the overhang. That was my only IB in that town, several at Legion but only that one there. I probably won't be back.

    Keep Hate Alive

    ReplyDelete
  176. Most exciting game and heartbreaking (pardon me for not remembering the years)

Most exciting @ FSU when we took the 2nd half kickoff back for a tD with a fumble recovery in the middle of it. Great back and forth game.

Most heartbreaking was the IB that the other team took advantage of our "prevent" defense and #$%^&%*($%^@# Van Tiffin kicked the game winning kick.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Maybe brilliant THT...I think....

    ReplyDelete
  178. you wouldn't have to be charming or good looking for Catherine...

    just sayin

  179. Gotta give the HOTTIES credit for that one, Jason.

I didn't think to do that. TarHeelTiger and some others make it happen every day.
