Post-practice notes, 8/10

Hey everyone. Let's get to business:
  • Trooper Taylor said he's convinced that Darvin Adams and Terrell Zachery are ready to play right now. If the season began today, Taylor said you'd be looking at Adams, Zachery and ... someone else. That third guy seems to oscillate between Montez Billings and Quindarius Carr.

  • Taylor said he is not big on rotating wideouts. He wants the starters to play a lot -- to ensure proper timing with the quarterback.

  • Jay Boulware wasn't impressed with Morgan Hull's kicking performance today. Six-of-8 didn't seem that bad to me. I guess some of those "good" kicks were actually stinkers.

  • The team held some full-scale, full-speed drills today. LB Eltoro Freeman said the defense created several turnovers -- one interception and a handful of fumbles -- but he was dissatisfied by his group's performance during the final few plays. He said tailbacks broke away for long gains after navigating between the tackles without resistance.

  • S Zac Etheridge said D'Antoine Hood has been moved from cornerback to safety.

  • Freeman on Onterrio McCalebb, who notched several long runs today: ``You'd better get an (angle) on him or he'll be gone."

  • WR Emory Blake, son of former NFL quarterback Jeff Blake, said he never had aspirations of becoming a quarterback. His dream was to be the next Barry Sanders.

  • Jeff Grimes said none of the OL reserves have made a noteworthy push toward the starting lineup.

LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT BREAK AWAY SPEED.. It reminds me of ACE in the 80's

    ReplyDelete
  2. looks hot out there, still not as bad as 2007...stay cool jay

    ReplyDelete
  3. I've never killed a thread so quickly!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Don't feel bad, THT. I am sure at some point you killed a thread quicker.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm thinking Peter's link didn't work or we're being punked.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Frankenbummer totally made yall look.

    ReplyDelete
  7. there wasn't a link, just an exclamation mark. I was trying to bail out THT.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Economic theory tells us that a Frankenbummer bailout just leads to more hardship. It's a shame this thread is considered "too big to fail." The real fix would have been for THT to say something a little more interesting in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Desperate times call for desperate failure.

    ReplyDelete
  10. So, is there any way the Auburn defense is freakin' awesome and those fumbles and interceptions don't mean the offense sucks?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anonymous1:33 PM

    Full Speed!! ===========>

    ReplyDelete
  12. You know, a certain amount of fumbles and interceptions will occur between now and the end of the season. It is actually good news that so many mistakes are being made now, because that means it will be much less likely for them to happen later in the season. You know, the law of averages. Get em out of your system now, fellas!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Look at it this way: Unlike last year, this year we will meet or exceed the expectations.

We already know we are not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can live with 6. 6 is better than I expected....wait, what was 2008? Way below a 6, right?

    ReplyDelete
  15. JGT can you give us a reading on the "suc-o-meter" for our offense this year.

    10 - great

    1 - rip

    ReplyDelete
  16. So, is there any way McCalebb is freakin' awesome and those long runs don't mean the defense sucks?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Keen observation, Chocolate.

  19. PF, can you post another comment for Michael and me to piggyback on? Saves keystrokes!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous1:43 PM

    Is there an echo?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I plan on using this law of averages theory to ease the pain until November or so, at which point if necessary I will slightly alter it to include the 2010 season and my optimism regarding its chances at success.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And it is good to have you back, PF.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Who threw the ints?

My take is that we will be a much more balanced team this season. The offense won't be quite ae suctacular and the defense won't be as great.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Last year's offense was suckulent, which is not to be confused with succulent, which means tasty or appealing to the senses.

Suckulent means craptastic, toxicy, or septic tankian.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Don't forget crapilicious.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Could someone ask Bart Eddins to please get someone to help him across the street and to not chew gum while walking. It seems as if a stiff breeze will injure that guy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Suck Zeppelin IV?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Last year's offense was Stanktastic!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I feel like we've had this conversation before.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Welcome to the Twilight Zone Jay G.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jay G, what is you stance on the Boston College coaching situation from last year?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Outkast would've called that offense STANKONIA.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Twilight? Based on the comments above I thought I was in toilet zone.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So they say Billy Mays was on crack. Color me surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Did you see where Charlie Weis' knee is a top story on ESPN.com?

    Gripping journalism.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Talking heads heads can get hung up on the dumbest things. Holtz for Senator anything to get him off of TV.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My twitter don't work it was suppose to flash a red lite blow a
    a horn or something

    Just kidding great stuff JGT

    ReplyDelete
  38. Scottie B,

stank stank means you got the funkiest, dopest heat on the street...if that's how Outkast is describing Auburn's 2009 outlook, I'm in!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous2:30 PM

    I remember the Skank Camero.

    Why, here's one now

    ReplyDelete
  40. Funny Mr. Tate should mention ESPN....

    Suckomania?

Scott Chocolate has the matching muscle shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  41. An ex-girlfriend of mine just posted some Facebook pics.

She is holding multiple bolt-action rifles and, honestly, seems pretty damn proud of it.

I'm terrified that I ever dated this girl.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Girls with Guns? It is HabotnMax after dark!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Now that's funny, ex holding bolt action rifles. Question, camo gear on?

    ReplyDelete
  44. now that's funny stuff JG. you had yourself a winner there! ha.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anyone in the B'ham vicinity can easily revisit the "Suckomania" that j-z is referring to. Def Leppard is in town tomorrow night.

    ReplyDelete
  46. She has posed in camouflage for previous facebook pics, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Our offense was so bad last year than none of its players would have been invited to play in the Blue-Gray Game if it still existed.

Hudson, careful. That car looked like it might have cruised Douglas Avenue on a Saturday night in Brewton ... and maybe even crossed Murder Creek into ... East Brewton.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And just how far up in the hills of Ky did this chick live? (mutters the guy who lives in Prattville, where such a thing isn't really out of the ordinary)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I stand corrected:

Def Leppard's Monday, August 10th and Tuesday, August 11th performances in Nashville and Birmingham, respectively, have been postponed due to the circumstances surrounding a band member's bereavement. No further specifics concerning the matter are expected to be released.

    ReplyDelete
  50. That is scary, very scary Jay G. I can understand hot girls holding guns for model shoots, but if it's purely fun, that's not a girl you want to upset.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nah. I dated this chick while living in Oklahoma. Her dad was an electronics magnate ... developed sonar and stuff like that.

How she ended up like this, I'll never know. Sweet girl, though. Very loyal.

    ReplyDelete
  52. J-Z ...

She surely would have been the favorite to win the Miss Paper Mill contest.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I may ask for her permission to post the pic here. It's incredible. She's wearing a "BEER WENCH" t-shirt, too.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Scott ...

J-Z was ready to give up an arm to see Def Leppard.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I used to work at a radio station where on one of the sister stations in the same building there was a lady who was a leader in a militia. She was heavly armed.

    ReplyDelete
  56. As far as facebook exes go, I saw a nice pic of a girl I dated for like a month 12 years. She seemed pretty happy with her "life partner".

    That was unexpected.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous3:03 PM

    Way to turn her RK

    ReplyDelete
  58. RK, I'm in that club as well.

    Ex-Girlfriend Is A Lesbian

It never occurred to me that it was a poor reflection on me until some fraternity bros ripped me. I always looked at it this way: She had the best of the male species, it was time to find new prey.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This string of comments is straying wildly off course.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous3:07 PM

    It's like a shankapotumus.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Don't get all Beaver on us, Jay, and tell us we can only talk about football here.

    ReplyDelete
  62. HHHmmmm Interesting musings here of late......

I need to stay clear pf Facebook.... Somethings I just don't want to know.

    LT

    ReplyDelete
  63. I want to see Onterio in a vid one day...no pressure though, I probaly just cant see him cause Im looking at the screen with the wrong angle

    ReplyDelete
  64. he's that fast Jhag. he's GONE.

    ReplyDelete
  65. JG,

That's how I view it as well. It as only downhill for her after me, so she had to change what she was looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mario Fannin looks unreal

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fannin is a very strong young man, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. yowza we're currently at 99 with Heat Index of 109. Everyone here is a Hottie!

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's a blistering 95 with a heat index of 102 here in Chattanooga.

    ReplyDelete
  70. it's awfully hot here in Knoxville too.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Is "going beaver on us" a new phrase the kids are using these days, Frankenbummer?

    ReplyDelete
  72. HOTlanta is only a mild 92 with an index of 97...I'm kind of disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  73. When does practice No. 2 begin?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Heard that Hood moved from CB to Safety.

On injuries note, I would be pretty disappointed if T'Sharvan 'the interceptor' Bell does not get to play this year either.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i don't blister too easy but i got crisped up pretty good in about 2 hours fishing with my son out on the new pier in gulf shores.

    ReplyDelete
  76. No, michael - "going beaver" is evidently just an FDA-documented after-effect of JGT

    ReplyDelete
  77. being home today means I get to observe the curious natural phenomenon known as "Puppet Hour"

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wearing a light jacket in the chocolate factory at the moment. It's a brisk 68 degrees in here - a little different from outside.

    ReplyDelete
  79. ...and the bewitched puppets are producing chocolate at a mind-numbing pace.

    ReplyDelete
  80. D, that was very well played in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 83, but feels like 80 right now in Denver. It's a dry heat...

    ReplyDelete
  82. JGT, my smack is still in shorts-and-shells mode - two-a-days are coming up, though

    ReplyDelete
  83. I sure hope Knox is on board there.

    ReplyDelete
  84. It's too bad James isn't here to absorb your salvos.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I should be more sensitive in regards to picking on James - sometimes I feel like a bully picking on the slow kid on the bus
(You know the type, even the short bus passes him by - yep, that's "James")

    ReplyDelete
  86. he could direct his salvos towards binoba, would probably feel good on his sunburn

    ReplyDelete
  87. better than directing saliva at him - he needth to go thee Dr. Lou Holth for that

    ReplyDelete
  88. so, will Tubs be in Oxford to watch practice tomorrow? then in Knoxville? When's he going to Albany to watch 'em load melons on the truck?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Jay, does the OL seem to look more "downhill" than what we were seeing last year? Is there as much pulling or are we straight ahead blocking more from what you have seen?

    ReplyDelete
  90. dnatl - LOL, if this is in shells, I can't wait til you get to 2-a-days.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You know what would be hot? Jan Terri in a shell bikini.

    ReplyDelete
  92. On his way to Knoxville maybe Tubs can stop by Murfreesboro to the see The Ole (Dumbass) Ball Coach, or maybe even Tullahoma to go see his old catfish restaurant.

    ReplyDelete
  93. michael michael motorcycle. Jan Terri needs to turtle up in a shell. No bikini, PLEASE!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Would that be conch or oyster shells? (Michael says she did not like crabs)

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'd love to have me some fried catfish, cole slaw, puppies, and pond water right about now.

    ReplyDelete
  96. THT, I try to be like Eltoro - one speed, full speed. But, that's about it for me today - don't want to pull a hammy and end up in the tub tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  97. dnatl - now you've got me thinking food. I'm going to rustle up a batch of homemade biscuits and drown em in the leftover country style steak gravy. I better hurry before MrsTHT gets home. She would not approve.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I am not sure what kind of shell she would use. They would certainly have to be substantial, that's for sure.

I read that link about Tubs at Miss St. Is it really a good sign for Miss St that Tubs thinks their newly installed spread offense looks good? Might very well be the kiss of death. Well, not really, the kiss of death is the fact that they are named Mississippi State.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I haven't been able to get a feel for how the OL is working. They only do walk-throughs when I'm there.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Tubs thought they had a good scheme because their offensive coordinatior did not have a set of "Hooked on Spread" dvd's out in the open

(no, JGT - different "Hooked on Spread" series than your ex's, but that could have been a warning sign...)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous4:32 PM

Glad to see CTT feels that 2 WRs have about earned their starting spot. NO DROPS!

Not good news that the OL backups aren't challenging the starters....we need those backups to step up.

I'm also in the "Ex-girlfriend now sporting a life-partner" Club. She was my HS girlfriend and was hot. Shocked eveyone in the hometown when she came out. I caught some grief from HS buddies, however since she had been married for several years prior to coming out, her Hubby really caught grief.

    ReplyDelete
  102. So they only do the good o line stuff when you aren't there, Jay G? That's kind of like how I hide all my good food when guests are at my house. They have no idea I have harvest cheddar sunchips under my bed! Enjoy the baked lays, gang.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I like the photo caption here

    ReplyDelete
  104. Jay G, Is the ex girlfriend with the guns the same one who had stanky breath?
    Be careful... very very careful

    ReplyDelete
  105. Aero - I love the serious referees in the background of that picture. They are there to make sure there is not too much horseplay, I guess?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm in the 'ex girlfriend became a stripper' club. I also almost joined the 'ex-stripper became a girlfriend club'.

And I can tell you that former is better than latter.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous4:40 PM

Michael.....Jay's OL/DL reports are so good other teams could use them to scout us.

    ReplyDelete
  108. JGT, they only do walk-through's because you intimidate them - they saw what you did to Nall, not to mention Chaz's back. He is also responsible for the unsolved disappearances of Lee Tilley and Oscar Gonzales, and the stunted career of Leon Hart. However, it was the aforementioned ex-girlfriend that chased off Dax Dellenbach - turns out, she was a DS groupie........

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't think they have to worry about "Don't ask, don't tell" in South Korea. I think it's pretty obvious without having to do either.

    ReplyDelete
  110. ds groupie. HAHA! dnatl, that was clever

    ReplyDelete
  111. I can't believe there are so many Hotties that turned girls to the other side. I wish my ex-girlfriends were into chicks. At least then I would have an acceptable excuse for being dumped other than my bad looks, abrasive personality, and all around inadequacy.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Turns out she wasn't a long snapper groupie, but a deep snapper groupie.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Anonymous4:50 PM

Jet....nice tippy toeing around the Snappers. I guess the spread needs deep snappers.

    ReplyDelete
  114. You know, a lot of the words being said today can have their literal meaning, but then also have a metaphorical meaning kind of in line with some of the other stuff we have been talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous4:52 PM

    Those chicken fites...ain't rite.

    ReplyDelete
  116. It's not the depth of the snap. It's the spin of the laces.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Personally, I like red snappers. And grouper. And lobster. Rock lobster.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yeah, and it's not the direction of the wind when you hike the ball, it's the orientation of the ball when you kick it with your foot. Wait, what's going on?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anonymous4:56 PM

Let's add Jan Terry in a bikini to that chicken fight.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jan Terri can crush a wild antelope's skull with her bare hands (I have seen her do this). I will put money on her in any fight.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Anonymous4:58 PM

Blackened amberjack at Mckinnon's Lousianne in Buckhead or fried grouper at Snug Harbor in Ft. Myers Beach.

    ReplyDelete
  122. That pic... It scared the living homophobe out of me, which didn't even exist prior to watching the pic.

I think that was the motive, directed at the North Koreans.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Heckuva Puppet Hour fellas. Good luck. We're all counting on you.

    ReplyDelete
  124. wow, if these biscuits aren't fluffy then jab me with a 1000 knitting needles and call me a porcupine.

I love biscuit dough. I always eat at least one whole biscuit before it ever sees the oven.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If the Nazis had used the Chicken Fight technique at Normandy instead of traditional defense tactics, they'd be speaking German in France right now. It is that good.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous5:03 PM

Aero....the general No. Korean population would be scared, however the DL (real one) sortof likes weirdness, so maybe the chicken fight should be reconsidered.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm going to debut a new Auburn video at 8 p.m. CDT.

It will feature Trooper Taylor, Jeff Grimes and Emory Blake.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Raw dough does not sound appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Hoop. Excellent choice / reference @ McKinnons.

Most of the HOTTIES have excellent taste in eateries.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I must admit, I've never tried it with jelly or honey. Biscuit dough is sooo good it needs no condiments.

    ReplyDelete
  131. JayGT - thanks!!! Can we still get in at the twilight rate?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Would people speaking German in France be a bad thing or a good thing?

Peugeots, Renaults and Citroens would be like WVs, Audis and BMWs.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Matinee rates apply.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Aero - it means I wouldn't have wasted my time taking 4 yrs of French in H.S.... so yes, a very good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I mistakenly read that as "Manatee rates apply."

    ReplyDelete
  136. don't tell MrsTHT, but my biscuits are the best!

    ReplyDelete
  137. well, if he's going to just let any sea mammal in, I doth protest.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Anonymous5:17 PM

    Do manatees get a discount?

    ReplyDelete
  139. I mean, who wants to be sitting behind a dolphin or a whale while watching JayGT's cinematic creations? Next thing ya know, ya got blow hole slime all over yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'm headed home from Auburn.

    Again: Video debuts at 8.

    Piece.

    ReplyDelete
  141. please drive safely. No texting, blogging, or uploading of hiway video. Thanks for the great reports today!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  142. wow. I killed one thread twice.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Dang! Just watched the videos for today, which as usual were outstanding, but Jay you know your funk. What was the sample from the ending of the interview video? Love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Anonymous6:36 PM

    Time of death 7:35 eastern.

    ReplyDelete
  145. No, I want to kill the thread...My Turn.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Could it be? Was it just a fainting spell?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Dang it. Oh well. I guess I may have to start quoting Family Guy to kill this thread.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I'm going to go check out my chatroll account and see if I can remember my login.

    ReplyDelete
  149. My next door neighbor got a call a couple of days ago from a friend by the name of Ted Roof.
CTR told him how good it was to be at a football school and how, even though he's "just" a DC, people come up to him in stores and say "hey coach, how are you?" He didn't get that up here even as HC. Now my neighbor is an Auburn fan, well, sort of, after Princeton and Puke. I guess I'll have to bring him to a game this season so he can see what real football is all about.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Awesome story THT. Glad CTR is enjoying his time at AU.

    ReplyDelete
  151. JGT's safely in da hood! Give wifey & daughters a BIG hello from the Hotties!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I know it's been a long time since I've been to a campfire when I A) Forgot my username and B) my profile pic was over 50 pounds ago. Lovely, but now i'm up todate and ready for football season!

    ReplyDelete
  153. can chatroll handle the newly transformed Eddie? i seriously doubt it!

    ReplyDelete
  154. Nope. This year's Eddie will be last year's Eddie on Roid Rage!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. i tried to log in to chatroll a couple weeks ago and couldn't get it to work. bummer. i need to give that another go.

well, Tucker calls. headed for a walk.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Fortunately, Molly dog is so old she doesn't want to walk anymore. Suits me.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Anonymous7:11 PM

Sounds like you and Molly dog have a lot in common.

    ReplyDelete
  158. yep, we're both lazy, old, and have long noses. But she has MrsTHT's beautiful brown eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Not to bring up an earlier topic....

but I'm shocked that you guys seem to think that "hot" girls with other girls is a bad thing..

    ReplyDelete
  160. we're in hour one of four - Star Trek Next Generation. I'm obviously not getting much done.

CIncy - you out there? Home safe & sound from the beach?

    ReplyDelete
  161. per Auburn Media Relations via Evan Woodberry, the following AU football players have just graduated:
    Gabe McKenzie (Football; Mobile);
    Rudy Odom (Football; Mandeville, La.);
    Jerraud Powers (Football; Decatur);
    Chris Todd (Football; Elizabethtown, Ky.);
    Jonathan Vickers (Football; Athens)

    ReplyDelete
  162. Anonymous7:33 PM

I've got a bunch of original Star Trek and permanent save on the DVR. Just the really good ones like "The Trouble With Tribbles" or "I Mudd".

I love my DVR. There's very little I watch live anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  163. back from our walk. so glad to have college football podcast for the ipod. yippee.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Anonymous7:53 PM

NVT..I hear ya re: the DVR. I consider it a defeat to get trapped watching live TV.

Congrats to the Grads. For the ones leaving....good luck, use that degree and make us proud. For the ones still with us....get a masters and HIT SOMEBODY!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Cool to have a neig in the know THT

    ReplyDelete
  166. Except for sporting events, I never watch anything live anymore. The DVR is a wonderful creation.

    ReplyDelete
  167. What has happened to Derek Winter and PPL. I hear nothing about them. Have they been sucked into a giant black hole?

    ReplyDelete
  168. i have thought the same thing today SFC. ????

    ReplyDelete
  169. Didn't they say PPL wouldn't be with the team for another week or so?

    ReplyDelete
