  3. HAPPY TOMMIE AGEE DAY!!!

    T-minus 30 days til kickoff!!!

Mr. Agee probably grew up eating Chilton County peaches -YUM!!!-if not, he missed out on a golden opportunity. The Maplesville native is the youngest of 4 brothers. He arrived in Auburn in the fall of 1982.

After a redshirt year, he was Auburn's fullback during the 1983-86 seasons. His primary responsibility was clearing holes for the likes of Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood, but he was also pretty darn good at toting the pigskin. Although tailbacks got most of the carries, but Mr. Agee averaged a healthy 4.9 yards/carry and accumulated 1,735 yds rushing in his Auburn career. That's good enough for 17th on Auburn's career rushing list. He also led Auburn in kickoff returns in 1986.

Two games in particular stand out in my memory, both of which were during his redshirt freshman year. Late in the 1983 season, Auburn faced and defeated top 10 teams in 3 consecutive games. The second of those games was against the Maryland Terrapins, led by Boomer Esiason. Mr. Agee gutted the turtle defense for 219 yards and 2 TDs in a 35-23 Auburn win. Game stats here.

In the Sugar Bowl against Michigan, which had one of the best defenses in the country, Mr. Agee piled up 93 yards on 16 carries, accounting for half the real estate on Auburn's 63 yd game-winning drive late in the 4th quarter.

In 1987, Mr. Agee graduated from Auburn with a degree in Criminal Justice and Youth Services, and was drafted in the 5th round by the Seattle Seahawks. Before he retired from the NFL, he had won two Super Bowl Rings as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

For the past decade he and his lovely wife and 3 children have lived in Opelika. He is a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association (are you?). He is Director of the Covington Recreation Center and Ass't Director of Opelika Parks & Recreation Department. In 2010 he will assume the prestigious post of President of the Alabama Recreation & Parks Association. He has also served as a Deacon of the Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church where he has been Director of the Youth Connection Ministry.

You can read a great story about Tommie Agee at this web site (scroll to pages 11-15).

    WARRRRR EAGLE!!!
    GO TIGERS!!!

How about some shout outs for other #30s? The floor is open..

  4. important question: has anyone ever actually seen Trooper Taylor's eyebrows? i mean, the 'tiger eyes' on the back (or front) of his cap is almost right between his eyes. much love Troop!

    30!!!!!!!

  5. THT, as if he received some kind of transmission from JGT, just brought you 30, like, BAM! love me some Tommie Agee.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I loved Eguaes' response to the drill question. Great work, Jay.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Benton and Blake: Saviors at WR? Here's hoping they continue to make plays when the pads are on.
And I do think all batteries are the same.....

    ReplyDelete
  8. so what does C.O.D. stand for?

    crazy old drill?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I remember as a kid there were commercials for ordering things off tv and they would always say at the end "Sorry, CODs are not accepted"

    ReplyDelete
  10. nite hot ones. i can't believe i'm still awake.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Love Tommy Agee!! He is often in the halls at OMS where my goes to school.

I just read what may be the 1st (of what I expect will be many) great quote of the early season from Trooper:

From Coach Trooper Taylor: "They (talking about the opponents) are gonna press coverage all of you because they have no respect for you. Nobody is writing articles about the wide receivers."

    ReplyDelete
  12. where my "son" goes to school

    ReplyDelete
  13. I love Trooper Taylor. Love, love, LOVE HIM!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Two videos in one night!!!! Thanks JGT. Great work.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Per Goldberg, Daren Bates said Wednesday night he has qualified.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Trooper Taylor = new baby's daddy.

    ReplyDelete
  17. A video. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks for the video Jay.

Tommy Agee is a great choice. Although there have been other great fullbacks in Auburn history, him and Heath Evans are the two I have the most fond memories of.

As for Tommy "Freight Train" Agee, he also blocked for a guy named Lionel "Little Train" James.

  19. If I remember correctly, Jet has some stories about Mr. Agee from HS football. Best I can recall, Jet spent a great deal of time on his ailerons during the game.

    Nice coverage Mr. Tate.

From what I heard at poker, I mean book club tonight, Justin Albert got kicked off the team for knuckleheaded stuff he did here around Prattville, not anything he did while on campus.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just saw the pics from practice here

    Nice. Few observations:

    1. Chizik's garb. I've rarely seen a more tacky outfit. Someone needs to tell him the 80's 'ooker theme does not fit his persona.

    2. Team tees. Why don't they have regular tees with numbers? They shouldn't have to wear gameday tees without pads.

    3. Anthony Gulley looks good. I didn't think he'll be a WR, but he will do great in Malzahn's system.

    4. Andre 'the fridge' Harris. Not only does he look like a fridge, he can probably eat one too.

    5. Aycock looks out of shape. Aubrey doesn't.

    6. Eric Smith looks happy. Benton looks crisp in Robert Dunn's shirt. QBs look tense (and pale. Very pale) Toro is bored.

    ReplyDelete
  21. btw, excellent coverage, JG. Thanks for keeping us updated.

and tht, domo arigato for the wonderful introduction to #30.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Shesaid - I had a feeling Trooper Taylor would end up being your new baby daddy.

What is that big championship looking ring on CTT's right hand?

    ReplyDelete
  23. The only other # 30's I can think of off the top of my head are Courtney Rose and Chris Butler.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love an orange visor, it is my headwear of choice. Malzahn is quickly endearing himself to me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Happy 30!!!

Wow, what a good start to practice. I'm excited about all the young guys on the team. Chizik has proved that he is not affraid to play young guys while at Iowa State, and I think that will be the same case here. I need the over / under of how many Rollison / Benton / Blake TD's this year? I say 12 :). Get on board the Rollison Express, it just started rolling.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Steve- Thanks for listening. I had a computer mishap right from the get go and it completely threw me off. I was thinking don't say goodnight..don't say goodnight just like when you are playing golf with water lining one side of the fairway and you are thinking don't hit the ball in the water...don't hit the ball in the water. Anyways, glad you enjoyed the show and my brother filling in for Sensi.

    Good morning, Hotties! Happy Thursday!

Monica, where is this picture of CTT of which you speak?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Eddie - I thought Mike did a great job. You two were fun together.

Luv - In the video I notice the super big flash of Coach Trooper Taylor's big ring. At least I think I did!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Aeronaut- Thanks for the pic link. I'm surprised that Chizik is wearing the old russell Auburn Sweatshirt. I've got a couple of those from when I was there. That is definitely not an Under Armour product, but I guess it doesn't matter. I also agree with your points 4 & 5.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks Mon. That was definitely a big ring on Trooper Taylor's hand. Not sure where he got it either. From his coaching resume, he was only apart of a SEC Eastern Division Championship while at UT and I don't think he won anything while at Tulane and definitely not while at Ok State. Maybe playing days, i'm not sure.

  31. Is COD drill Change of Direction drill?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous7:02 AM

Darn. I forgot my secret decoder ring today.

    ReplyDelete
  33. jeez, not this guy again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's an ad for the "Sunny Yoga Vegetative House". Those folks can come up with the darndest names.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not sure why, but when I see Chris Todd the word "weenie" comes to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They have to be crazy to come post that crap in here in that language...I have no idea what language that is.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous7:08 AM

It's Chinese. I only speak English.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Actually, I believe it's Japanese. I got nothing when I tried to translate it in chinese, but got something in Japanese. Nothing relevant like barners suck or anything like that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Everybody's tough when we ain't got pads on. I do like this Troop guy. Thanks for another excellent video jay, and I like the TheHABOTN intro.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous7:15 AM

Where is DL when you need him? He and his towel could translate.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Why is "barner" supposed to be an insult? I like barns.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous7:20 AM

Google said it was Chinese. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had any idea.

    ReplyDelete
  43. oh well, nothing but spam anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Feng writes in simple Chinese (Mandarin). It's a pretty long advertisement about Yoga. We should forward it to little nicky. The dude looks constipated.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You can use google translator, or babelfish.altavista.com.

I don't think Spam even exists in Japanese. Not the people that do it. Mostly it will be Mandarin Chinese.

    ReplyDelete
  46. See, i've actually learned something here this morning. Thanks Aeronaut. This is definitely an educational place.

    ReplyDelete
  47. A Kenyan offered 20 cows and 40 goats for Chelsea Clinton's hand in marriage.

    I think it's a fair trade.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Aero - that's funny! and earlier, were you cursing me? It might as well have been in Mandarin.

3 cheers for #30 Eric Hines-Tucker. (surprised he hasn't yet been mentioned)

    ReplyDelete
  49. morning. doesn't the start of practice just make you feel better inside. like, it just makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning. Tucker & i were running this morning and i just wanted to go up to my neighbor's window and yell "NO DROPS!!!!" as loud as i could. i'm pumped. ready to roll. i'll be on the Plains next sat. nite & sunday for Fan Day. WOOOO-HOOOO!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Morning Hotties - happy Thursday.

J-Z - I can confirm that you recall correctly. Jet does have some stories about Mr. Agee.

    Keep Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Actually, Scottie B, this morning I woke up totally exhausted, same as always. But that don't mean I ain't excited!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Scottie - I'll be at Fan Day too. Look for me. I'll be the good looking guy with a great looking wife and fine young son in tow.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous8:06 AM

When it comes to stories, Jet is full of them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Norm, i'm sure you'll stand out. i'm expecting a Brad-Angelina kind of scene with a HABOTN tee. am i right?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ok, so we now have three Hotties attending Fan Day, Scottie, Norm & myself. I think Sensi will be around, hell, he only lives several 100 yards away from the stadium. Who is really up for meeting up at Fan Day? I'm game.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Scottie - Angelina does nothing for me, never has. I don't get it. Anyway, my wife is better looking than that. But, I get your point.

    ReplyDelete
  57. agreed Norm. my wife is a super-hottie too. however, i told her this morning if she felt the need to leave me for Eli Manning i would understand. i mean, $97 million for 5 years? shoot, i'd leave myself!

yeah Eddie, we need to have a Hottie meeting next Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cool Scottie. It makes two of us, the more the merrier.

    ReplyDelete
  59. MrsTHT is definitely marrying for Eli's kind of $$$$ next time. She's tried the love thing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Chizik's gear is stupendous. Very Belichik-esque.

    ReplyDelete
  61. y'all be sure and don't leave me stranded here when the Agee thread is up. I don't want to go back to the home page here at work and have the commercial blaring in the office.

    ReplyDelete
  62. THT, we'd never abandon a fine AU man.

    together in AU love.

    together in BAMA hate!

    ReplyDelete
  63. It really ticks me off when someone leaves 1/4 cup of coffee without making more. "I don't have to make more, there was still some left." Give me a flippin' break.

    ReplyDelete
  64. How will we recover from Paula not being on American Idol?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous8:57 AM

LOL, Steve. I was just saying that yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  66. i would recommend recovery by not watching. it works for me SFC.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yea, I am not really into American Idol. I am an Americas Got Talent kind of guy. Idol doesn't have enough yodelers on it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Dear American Idol,

    Please die.

    Thanks,
    ehyou

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm a I can't believe I survived a Japanese TV Show Talent type of guy....if I actually watched tv.

    ReplyDelete
  70. i stick to FX shows on Tues. nites, the Braves, and SportsCenter this time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  71. By the way, Trooper Taylor is sporting a big UT ring in the video.

    ReplyDelete
  72. NEW THURSDAY THREAD UP & RUNNIN'.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous9:18 AM

    Who is Paula?

Barner is a compliment. Most of the AU grad "farmers" I know, own thousands of acres, several $100,000 air-conditioned tractors and rent double-wides to Bammers.

Tommy Agee was a bad mo-thuh... "shut yo mouth".....casn ya dig it?

just stopped by..gotta go, I'm working on a borrowed laptop until my new arrives.
