All we have are the embers

Hey everyone. We held a 2-hour Campfire® on Thursday night that was well-attended and well-received.

We hosted 303 users this time. Thanks for your support.

BIG UP to the HOTTIES who went the distance: Sensi, Eddie, E-Bro, Kristina, DMiller, JD. I think WEG was there for most of the shindig as well.

It's always nice seeing new members around: philly1, Wilson Tailgate. There were others.

  2. USC is going to blow this one.

  3. All the other fools are still at the campfire, I'm at both.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Too hard to watch the game and campfire at the same time for us old folks!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Automatically got signed out of the campfire and can't get back in. Same for everybody?

What a slow death that was.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This SC/Ole Miss game is messy. I'm sorta kinda pulling for MS because it will be hard enough to break in to Top 25 without being able to beat top-rated team but...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Catch everyone in the morning.

Garcia is playing scared almost it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Boy that Ole Miss locked down on D.

  17. Needed that bounce.

Ole Miss < Number 4 team in the country win or lose

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anyone got a clue at why LSU is in the top 10?

    ReplyDelete
  20. LSU beat Washington and Washington beat USC...sheesh Steve. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I was looking at team stats on SECsports.com, LSU and AU are almost identical in every category, offense and defense, against similar competition.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous9:59 PM

And that one win got Washington to the top 25.

Because that's more substantive than La Tech, MSU or WVU.

    ReplyDelete
  23. LSU, Washington, and USC all got issues.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous10:02 PM

    McCluster got cranked!

    ReplyDelete
  25. USC has QB issues. Any time you have QB issues, you got trouble. I refer you to Auburn 2008 as proof.

The Tenacious Spurriers are not gonna make it easy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. McClester wasn't in the game. Snead got sacked. This is not the #4 team in the country.

Oh, no, Senator Holtz predicted SC would win.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 4th and 19. What maroons.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, but Stanford also beat USC a couple of years ago, then lost 5 of their next 7 to finish 4-8.

    Washington could do that too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous10:06 PM

    See ya Ole Miss.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous10:07 PM

Washington will be able to say they were ranked in the Top 25 at one time.

I wonder if Auburn will say the same?

    Time will tell.

    Good-night, Hotties.

  32. Nevah, evah, trust a Nutt.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That ole grey nutt just ain't what he use to be, ain't what he used to be, ain't what he use to be...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, the historically consistent Ole Miss suckiness won out over South Carolina's legendary mediocrity.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Crap... I was studying for a test... that's more important I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That wasn't exactly a dominating performance by South Carolina. Ole Nutt made plenty of mistakes to help them out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. South Carolina just busted a Nutt

    ReplyDelete
  38. Told ya..

Ole Myth will finish fourth in the west.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I
    really, really, really,
    really, really, really
    don't like Ole Miss.

It's nice when you think a certain way and it ends up true.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Washington may be the best turnaround story in CFB. After last year's most terrible team of all time to putting up a good fight against a good SEC, then beating the best team in theiir conference and being ranked. I'd say they had a super-fantastic offseason.

By the way, have any two coaches ever done more to set back African American college head coaches than Ty Willingham and Sly Croom?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Vintage Nutt, flu or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought Croom did very well, especially in conducting himself in a professional manner and giving his team a chance to win. He is a good coach and a good man.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Big Snacks, No they haven't. Unless you count Saban, I think he's like Bill Clinton as in the first black white football coach or whatever he is. Christlike maybe, shapeshifter, chameleon. Who knows. Crap post on my part, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  44. What Croom lacked in being able to make lemonade with lemons, he made up for in dignity, yes. That doesn't mean anything, though, in an industry where dignity is undervalued.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dignity, much like stats, is for chumps.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sorry I missed. I need to be more vigilent about such things.

    ReplyDelete
  47. HAHAHAH.

If only y'all could've heard these Mississippi fans talking about how if they could only get by Bama, everything would be golden.

Seriously, Bama is all they ever talk about, as being tough competition.

And Auburn was waaaaay down on their totem pole for possible losses. Now they've gotta be just hoping to win 8 or 9.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Croom didn't do any worse than Rockey Felker, who didn't have major NCAA sanctions to deal with. At least Coarch got the Bullies into a bowl game.

On a related note, I recall that one of the main justifications for Bama not to hire Croom was that 'if he didn't succeed and you fired him, you'd be accused of it being racially motivated'.

I don't recall anyone making that claim last year when MSU let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I just want Dyer to announce!

    ReplyDelete
  50. 8 or 9? If they play like they did tonight, they'll be lucky to hit up Shreveport or Memphis.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Freep, Bama doesn't have the patience that MSU state has. They would have let him go much sooner and that might have mad a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Been lurking. You guys covered everything very well tonight. Some interesting reads. I didn't have anything to add except 'night y'all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. key word: hoping

    ReplyDelete
  54. if you were prepared to hire croom, you had to be prepared to fire him and bammer could sorely afford that liability and opted for shula and made life good for AU a few more years. at bammer, firing croom is a story. at MSU, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  55. i think AU wins one of the upcoming sec road games and the other goes down to the wire and could go either way. if AU pulls off both on the road with UK coming in, things get real interesting. if AU gets a split, they'll still be ahead of my expectations going in. UT ARky & OM all look more winnable now than they did two weeks ago. WDE!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Some random musings:

If our benevolent dictator JGT were to ask coaches some questions, what would your question be (on a serious note)

I think SECW isn't really strong this year either. I don't like that, one bit.

And I dislike the 2010 schedule. I've rarely liked the schedule but this one is sucktastic.

  58. While I have dislike for those things, my hate is always for the fighting sabans and the mindless drones that live under his abject tyranny.

I believe that bammer nayshun deserves to be treated like that. Does anyone remember the Spurrier quote about bama / saban?

Off to work. Everyone have a great War Eagle day.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Please make it 4pm soon....

    Good morning all and TFIG!!!!!!!!

Ole Miss was doing what they do. My Bro posted this on the campfire last night, but it went over my head and that was that if you compare Auburn 2003 to Ole Miss 2009, South Carolina (USC) was Auburn's Southern Cal (USC) and he wonders if Vandy will be their Georgia Tech next week? Interesting thought.

  64. Good morning, Hotties! It is Friday and I get to go to AUBURN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah, last night when i went to bed the rain prediction was 80% chance. This morning it is down to a mere 60%.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, I'm sure the wife and 2 kids will be coming down tomorrow, but i'm not sure we will make it thru the game if the weather gets really bad.
