(Late) First post: Monday of Week Five

Hey everyone. Looks like my wireless router pooped out on me this morning, which is aggravating because it's new. I'm back on the Interwebs (more or less) now, so we're back on schedule.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

  2. Frustrating morning loaded with IT talk.

I think it's time for me to change ISPs.

Jay.....originally my ISP's charged for the wireless setup. i constantly encountered DSL sync problems. Now the ISP provides the wireless for free along with the fax filters and all problems are gone.

  4. From last thread:

Auburn Athletics spits out 'previews' before every game. Here's
    2009 AU- UT preview:

at Knoxville, TN UT leads, 14-8-1

However if you look at 2008 AU-UT preview:

at Knoxville, TN UT leads, 14-5-1

Huh? We went from 14-5-1 to 14-8-1 at knoxville by beating them at Auburn once?
    -----

Also I think there were two ties in the series in Knoxville.. 1965 and 1987. 1990 being another tie, I think, at Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think after last years 14-12 game each team should have to subtract 14 for UT and 12 for Auburn wins from their overall series totals.

That game set both programs back and was the least exciting close game between the two school in the history of the series.

  6. Jay G,

Will the kickoff time for the game at Ark be announced today?

This is dilemma week for Bammers. Since we're undefeated, they probably want UT to win and that has to seem unnatural.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was there for the 1987 tie on the Brillo Pad ... big AU lead, UT comes back and opts for the tie.

Mismanagement of timeouts prevented Win Lyle from attempting his third 50-plus FG for the game on the final play.

James Joseph dislocated his kneecap on the opening kickoff and played the whole game. Manly manliness by a man.

RK..it was better than the 3-2 game with MSU...'course that ain't sayin' much.

  11. This won't be a nail biter. It will be an ankle grabber.

    Auburn 38
    Tennessee 17

In post game interviews Kiffikin will declare Auburn possibly the best team in college football and far superior to Florida who "sucks butt".

In a related story, Kiffikin was heard to say in a closed door session with his A.D., "thank you sir, can I have another".

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'll guess Alabama/Ole Miss will be the 3:30 CBS game...so that means we'll get an early kickoff which works well for me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It appears that the SEC has a secret agenda to screw around with Jay's plans.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My guess is Bama-Ole Miss at 3:30, UGA-UT at noon on ESPN, Auburn-Arkansas at 12:21 on SEC, and State-Houston at 12:30 on ESPNU.

  15. RK ...

I concur ... from my vantage point, it means two nice dinners in Fayetteville instead of one. If such a thing is possible.

Jerrell Harris just got a 6 game suspension for improper compensation. AU really wanted this guy about 2 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  17. bummer on tv times. i was hoping AU-Ark was late & UT-UGA was late (or reversed) so i could watch AU & go to UT. oh, well. all day tv for me.

  18. What I thought of when Roman Polanski was arrested ...

Lois Griffin: What's going on down here?!

Stewie Griffin: Oh, we're playing house.

Lois Griffin: That boy's all tied up!

    Stewie Griffin: Roman Polanski's house.

    ReplyDelete
  19. crap, not having a good posting day. you know what i meant! early/late.

    ReplyDelete
  20. SFC I hope that you are right. I am really not feeling confident going into this one.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wonder what he was compensated with?

    By whom?

    Ha ha. Nudge. Wink.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If a laptop is worth 6 games then a silver dodge charger has to atleast be worth a half game suspension...

    ReplyDelete
  23. The should change the name of ESPN's College Football live to ESPN's Notre Dame and USC football live...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm going to see the Allman Brothers and Widespread Panic the night of the Auburn/Ark game...so I'm glad it's probably going to be early.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think Harris reportedly had a laptop that he received improperly, but I am not sure about it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. FYI, West Virginia plays Colorado on ESPN thursday nite if yall want to see how they rebound from losing to us. they were off last weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  27. hey sports fans. JayGT, thanks for another interesting article and enlightening notebook. So, who will be the next freshman to lose his (red)shirt.

It's got to be Dontae, don't ya think, JayGT?

    ReplyDelete
  28. RK, you gonna be in knoxville?

    ReplyDelete
  29. We only have about 6 freshmen that haven't played. I hope we are done pulling redshirts.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Scottie,

Since the Allman Brothers show in knoxville is mid-week, I probably won't make it up for that.

That's why I got tickets for the Saturday show in B-ham on a weekend Auburn was in Arkansas.

    Are you going?

    ReplyDelete
  31. oh, ok. i had planned on going but never got tickets. your post reminded me. i want to. i need to jump on this!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Aero - I think the 3 wins got moved from there to JGT's score of Saturday's game 57-30 on the front page. Or then again, maybe we're STILL scoring against BSU.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Aero knows that I've been critical of Ziemba and the false starts...however I don't recall his name being called once on Saturday.

I wanted to point out the positive as well as the negative. Here is to big Lee starting a new streak of not being called.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Someone crunch the numbers and determine when you think the LSU game will be played. National security depends on you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Auburn/LSU game has already been decided to be a night game.

    ReplyDelete
  36. sure has. I know Jay G will be happy with the Arky game time. I am not. I am flying up there and hate early games

    ReplyDelete
  37. Arkansas being a day game could mean trouble. Todd's arm was actually reconstructed with a substance based upon wax and could melt in the heat.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Arkansas being a day game concerns me because the earliest we have kicked off this year is 6:00, and we'll kick off at 6:45 on Saturday. Hopefully the adjustment doesn't hinder us.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think early kickoffs on the road are just fine...that way you aren't sitting in an unfamilair hotel or locker room all day waiting to play.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What if Malzahn is STILL holding back on this offense? You lnow, not wanting to show anything until it was really needed, like this weekend. And Roof is running just a basic package until now becasue the coaches all thought they could get to 4-0 without showing much of their grand schemme for the season.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  41. National stats for offense:

Chris Todd - #6 rated QB

    Ben Tate - #14 rushing
    Onterio McCalebb - #24 rushing

    Darvin Adams - #32 receiving
    Terrell Zachary - #49 receiving
    Mario Fannin - #96 receiving

Wonder when was the last time (if ever) AU had 3 guys in the top 100 nationally in receiving? Well, besides 2008, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  42. wtc,

That would be awesome if we have been holding back for the meat of the schedule that starts in Oct.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Enough Arkansas. I ask RK, Scottie, and any other TN hotties: What is the feeling in the Volunteer State about Saturday's game? Being from the Noog and keeping up with things back home with all my Vols friends, I can guess, but what atmosphere pervades the state?

    ReplyDelete
  44. He must have gotten tired of all the extra stuff they made him do because of the false starts. If they make the guys do extra stuff for penalties like that.

I was thrilled not to hear his name called for that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. BTW that all had to do with RK's comment earlier about LZ

    ReplyDelete
  46. Most people I have talked to seem to think we'll probably beat them by 10-14.

However, I worked from home today...so we'll see tomorrow when I'm in the office how all the UT fans feel.

However there are the ones who think there is no way UT can ever lose a game.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i say most aren't extremely optimistic about winning but think it should be a close game.

a few are expecting to get blown out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. There is no question we have been holding back defensively in a way. We have played lots and lots of backups in the games this season, even against WV. Until we are in a real nail biter, I don't expect this to change.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, my TN friends are somewhat of like mind. Expect a close game and think whoever runs the ball and makes the least mistakes wins the game. Hard to argue.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I might listen to Sportalk here in a few to listen to what my former co-workers are saying about the game.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous2:58 PM

I'm counting on us having more offense to reveal. We may have a little more defense to use , but it would only be particular to each team.

UT plays UGA the week after us...that's good.

Ark got cruched by Bama, goes to aTm this week, then plays us, then UF the week after us...they're gonna be shell shocked

    ReplyDelete
  52. Man City ahead of West Ham at the half 2-1

    ReplyDelete
  53. IMO - UT puts 8 men inthe box to stop the run and that leaves 4 guys to cover the receivers. THis year the receivers doa better job of looing in to the QB when they recognize that defense. This mainly puts a LB to cover Mario. That is a get matchup for AU. I look for him to have a big day receiving.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Please do RK. I want to know what Quake and Dr. B have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  55. There are three things that could happen to allow a UT victory: penalties, turnovers, injuries.

If we get penalized like we did early against LaTech, we are in trouble.

If Todd suddenly forgets he is good and starts throwing picks, we are dead meat.

If Bynes or Stevens get injured, watch out. It isn't that I don't have faith in their backups but....okay, it is that I don't have faith in their backups.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dang THT, I had my DVR set to record that so I could watch when I got home. Still, it's awesome that I can come to the HABOTN and have a soccer score ruined for me. Signs of progress for the game.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have a secret strategy for going for it on 4th and short which is special for this game. We add a few words to the snap count: "Hey, look, there's Urban Meyer". It would really help if Todd would point while saying that.

    ReplyDelete
  58. as the great Chiz one said:

    "I believe in Chris Todd."

he will not be rattled. CT torches Eric Berry. well, at least once. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous3:05 PM

An AUC free article makes it sound like the UT defense is on it's last legs because of injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Berry is a hitter. I hope we try to stay away from him. If Todd chooses to run with Berry near, I hope his health insurance is paid up.

    ReplyDelete
  61. UT lost one of their starting LB's against Ohio. I know that.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tennessee's defense is overrated a bit in my opinion, but I don't think it is on it's last leg. Do you have a link to the article?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sorry, E Bro- I still haven't bothered to get DVR, so I must watch it live. No more updates from me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I hope the coaches have some creative options if we have an issue stopping the UT running game. Perhaps moving Coleman to linebacker would work.

    ReplyDelete
  65. here's an article that discusses UT's depth issues. VOL INJURY REPORT

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks THT. No worries. I'm never going to disparage any futbol talk on the HABOTN.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think UT's defense is for real. Like us, they have some depth issues, but I also think in general there a bit better on defense than we are.

I believe we can wear their defense out, but we may do the same to ours in the process. Therein lies the problem. I believe we are most effective running the ball when we are snapping the ball quickly, but that gambit doesn't work out to well for our defense.

Yet if the pace of our offense slows, we don't seem to be able to run as well. What to do what do.

    ReplyDelete
  68. just DO WHAT WE DO.

speaking of, did you notice Trooper's towel? ausome.

    ReplyDelete
  69. that's it. i've been on the fence about making the trip to Knoxville, but i'm sold. i was there in 2004 and it is one of my fondest AU memories. anyone with a single in the AU section lemme know.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think we need to be as fast as we can play on offense this week, don't give UT a chance to catch a breath and don't give their crowd time to build the noise.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It appears that UT has the type of injuries that would cripple our defense, but I am not convinced they don't have the backups that can step in. I don't expect the UT defense to be bad, just not dominating. I am a bit excited to hear they have coverage problems in the secondary.

As for UT's offensive line being banged up, good. The offensive line is what concerns me most. Forget skill positions. If your offensive line doesn't play well, you have problems.

    ReplyDelete
  72. UT didn't take their 11 point lead until a FG with exactly 6 minutes left in the 4th. Ohio drove the field and got stopped around UT's 20. they opted to try for a FG to cut it to 8 and then (i assume) kick an onsides kick with 2 minutes and change to play. the FG went wide right and UT ran the clock out. they did not look good at all.

    ReplyDelete
  73. if it weren't for special teams, i would pick AU by 14. however, i am convinced that Rogan (sp) will bust a long one.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Wes, pretty sure my buddy has an extra--one that was sold by the university to students. He's electing to sit with us...thus he's selling his. If you want it, email me at muxi87 at yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yea, UT didn't impress me at all against Ohio. They were definitely the better team, but made too many bonehead mistakes. They were playing starters and they gave up 340 yards of offense to Ohio. That is not a dominating defense or a top 5 defense in my book. It doesn't mean they are bad. It just means they aren't to be feared and are more comparable to MSU's defense than Alabama's.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Mytommyd, I noticed that too. I'm going to assume that the game is finally over as the score hasn't moved from 57-30 on the front page.

WERK.. the #73 of Ball State (rt) had a false start. I found that ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Vol fans have been talking all kinds of trash on twitter. I searched Auburn last night and was flooded with stupid tweets about destruction.

    ReplyDelete
