Late updates, 9/29

Hey everyone. Here's the deal: The tape in my camera basically gave me the finger tonight. Repeated use left it compromised and tonight was the night it let me know. I'll bring a new tape next time and all will be good.

Still, no video tonight. I know you're heartbroken.

As a gesture of atonement, however, here is a detailed account what players discussed today.

  • Onterio McCalebb officially is in the punt return mix. ``I’ve been snagging a few of them. It’s been going pretty well. I’ve been doing it for a little while."

  • A while? Why haven't you been fielding punts in games? ``They wouldn’t put me back there because I was doing a whole bunch of other stuff."

  • McCalebb confirmed that PPL (aka Philip Pierre-Louis) also has been fielding punts this week.

  • DE Hot Carter revealed tonight that he had surgery on his right knee April 7. It was to re-attach (or "anchor") the meniscus back to the bone. ``The recovery is longer than a regular meniscus tear, with mine being anchored back down instead of getting cleaned out. You got to give the anchors time to heal. They're deep down in there now."

  • DE Antonio Coleman still is wearing a brace on his right wrist. He doesn't like wearing it in games. ``I'm down on the line. I've got to have my hands. I've got to shoot my hands. I've got to get off blocks. I'm still adjusting to it. I'm messing with the trainers every day, but it's for my own safety and I respect that."

  • Coleman on surrendering so many points to Ball State: ``It doesn't sit with me... at all. We're a much better defense than that. To give up 30 points to Ball State? That's just bad."

  • Craig Stevens on Auburn's defense being ranked 69th in points allowed: ``I think we're a lot better than that. Rankings don't mean anything, it's just going out there and stopping the other team whenever you get out there. I don't really buy into that stuff."

  • Due to "safety concerns," Tennessee officials apparently will not allow Auburn to hold its traditional Tiger Walk prior to Saturday's game.

  2. Let's see what PPL can do with the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Another FAH!

PPL is FAH (Fragile As Hell).

    ReplyDelete
  4. thanks for diggin that up...

I hope afer all of this he does not suck....

Heck he is listed running a 4.2 40..pre injury... that is FAH

    ReplyDelete
  5. talk about bad luck... injured on the first play... thats like getting a ticket pulling out of the drivers ed building.

  6. Diaz three run tater!

Braves tie Marlins 4-4 in the 6th.

    "Safety" concerns? That smells fishy.

    ReplyDelete
  8. RK or Scottie,

What has John Adams had to say about the game this week. His commentary with Hooker is classic. Also, Adams gets grief from UT folks for being "anti-vols". True is, he tries to be objective and is a great writer in my book. He's one of the few things I miss from Knoxville.

  9. Thanks for calling in Coosa.

Jet, we did talk special teams or lack of.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i am watching the rerun (whats happening) of tenn Ohio and wondering why on earth Tenn is talking smack???

    ReplyDelete
  11. Eduardo ...

You started just as I hit the button.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No Tiger Walk...I hate everything about UT!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not allowing tiger walk due to safety concerns would make me believe that Tennessee has a negative view of their fans.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I call shenanigans on the reasons for no Tiger Walk.

Big knock by Diaz to tie the game for the Braves and bail Hudson out of a loss.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wes,

Dave Hooker was on talk radio here in Chattanooga today and he wasn't very optimistic.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Let's go to Vol Walk in force and boo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like Hooker...he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously. A year or so ago, he got banned from UT events, for interviewing a player without UT's permission. He joked about his rebel status on air.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I would prefer if Auburn wasn't associated with booing anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I do favor someone like PPL or Gulley beng the punt returner. I prefer to keep the key playmakers off special teams and it is a good way to get the experience.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Key offensive differences for AU 2008 vs. 2009

    1. Todd's arm.
    2. Adams/Zachery getting separation
    3. better OL play
    4. better schemes

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm 100% sure that the banning of Tiger Walk has nothing to do with security reasons.

Just everyone show up where the bus would unload and have an unofficial Tiger Walk.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Enjoyed it Eddie. So am I the first person to publicly suggest that Todd could play on Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I never really thought any of our Tiger Walks at visiting locations were official. Fans will show up where the players exit the bus regardless of what TN says. That's just how we roll!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why do I feel like Lane had something to do with the aforementioned "security concerns"?

    ReplyDelete
  25. If Steve "Toddzilla" FC didn't say, then you are the first Coosa :)!

    ReplyDelete
  26. How, exactly, do you stop fans from lining up as the team walks into the stadium?

Are they going to send Big O out with no shirt on to scare the Auburn fans away?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with WERK...do what you have to do to make Tiger Walk happen!

Y'all just be where that bus is!

They think they can squelch the Auburn spirit?? Paleeeze!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does anybody agree with me that tempo may pay an important part in the outcome of the game this weekend?

I think Gus would love to kick it up a notch!

That tactic would certainly work on me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous9:01 PM

The Ball State game was very slow by Gus's standards. I agree they need to kick it up several notches. We move the ball better when plays are coming one right after the other.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous9:02 PM

Big O is scary with or without a shirt. He wouldn't keep me away from a Tiger Walk though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous9:04 PM

Interesting point Missinit. Some pro teams are experimenting with up tempo with decent results. MKiffen is an old line por DC that may struggle with fast-paced adjustments.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Again, thanks to all that listened and thanks for calling in Coosa!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. By the way, i've said it before and I will say it again. PPL is the return guy once out of the doghouse. Is he close to getting out? Time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eddie with the multi tasking tonight!

    Good job.........

    ReplyDelete
  36. My bad, a slip on my part:

pay = play an important part

There again if we "play" at a quicker pace, it may "pay" off!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks missinit. I know this is a place of hate, but I have deep LOVE for my Auburn Tigers!!!!! I'm not afraid to admit it either, I LOVE THE AUBURN TIGERS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Pick me up off the floor if PPL plays.

    Resuscitate me if he contributes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Eddie...
I was tied up with baths and such. About to hit the podcast.

    PPFAHL

    ReplyDelete
  41. Fast or Fragile????

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous9:28 PM

PPL has been on suspension for 4 months. Hopefully that's enough.

    ReplyDelete
  43. PPL wasn't suspended. He had academic or family issues or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would never say that Todd could play on Sundays until we see him in a game where he is pressured and banged around a bit. He has done great so far, but things will get real hot real fast.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Judging by how Chizik has handled things, PPL could very well play Saturday. Heck, I didn't expect Trott to play when he did and I didn't know when ElToro would play either.

    ReplyDelete
  46. missinit,

    Tempo will be huge.

If we can get the ball snapped fast like Gus wants, then the crowd noise doesn't get a chance to build.

If we can get lined up and get the ball snapped quickly it keeps UT's D off balanced.

UT's D has a new MLB. Reviez was their playcaller on D, if we keep their MLB confused, they will be out of position.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Steve's right, I had no idea that Downs kid would play on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Eddie,

You guys may have to bring the hate without me this weekend. The AC went out on my car, so I'm going to get it fixed Thursday and I'm guessing that will probably cost money.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous9:55 PM

RK, it's fall. You won't need the air until spring.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'll need heat in a couple of months though.

I'm one of those who hates something to not be working correctly and have to get it fixed ASAP or it will just bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Tiger Walk thing shocks me. I think UT is worried about having their lame Vol Walk shown up.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Long comment coming

    Two points:
    1. In 2004, the beginning of the end for UT in that game was when we had a MASSIVE turnout for the road Tiger Walk. It was right in front of a UT VIP parking deck (I was in it). The UT bigwigs couldn't believe their eyes. These were non-UT fans acting like they owned the place. A bit foreshadowing eh? There's no way that those fans didn't say something to try and force us out of that again

    2. This has got to be the lowest anyone has ever gone to create a home field advantage. when you need to try and keep the visiting fans from cheering their players when you have 100,000 of your own fans, that's just sad.

War Damn Eagle. Let's kill em!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Like I said, just show up have an unofficial Tiger Walk.

The players won't be expecting it, so it should pump them up even more.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was considering the effect of the up tempo play earlier this week. It occurred to me that an added benefit is the players only have time to focus on the job at hand and can't take time to think about what has occurred. They have to be purely focused on execution. I think I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We need to score first in this ball game

    ReplyDelete
  56. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I was reading another blog and ran across a delightful quote.

"LSU is the fourth-best team in the country? Yeah. And Kansas coach Mark Mangino runs a 4-minute mile."

    ReplyDelete
  58. Eff Lane Kiffen! What a little pink panty waist girly girl sissy boy. I hope the "highschool coach" hangs 50 on his sorry little wormy azz. What a piece of what I just squeezed off. I hope we intercept Crumpton 17 times and I want them to run over there and spike the ball in Kiffen's gonads after each one. I'll take the penalty. It is worth it. And after we beat him down and make him cry, I want the 10,000 Auburn fans who are there to tear the entire stadium down to the ground and bring it home in their car trunks. What a little cousin humper he is.

And I can't tell you how I really feel or Jay G would ban me for life!

    ReplyDelete
  59. If anybody has the man's phone number, call him and tell him I would like to challenge him to a cage death match.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We will just let the scoreboard do the talking.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Eddie - Good points last night in your rant on the polls. I'll take the other side.

I've never understood why a young woman would dress like a hooker and then get all upset when guys look at her. What does she expect? All she's gotta do to avoid it is to dress a little more modestly. Why is she dressing like a hooker?

So why is the AP dressing like a hooker? If they don't want people to complain about their poll, quit having it. Or at least wait until later in the season to start it. But if they are going to have them this early in the season, they oughta expect people to complain about them.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Kevin Scarbinsky has a good article out this morning on Auburn and polls.

OK, I realize he's not exactly a reliable source for proving points, but I do agree with him today.

    ReplyDelete
  63. SCREW THE VOLS!!!!!!

Auburn Fan's going to Knoxville need to show up in force to provide our on Tiger Walk without UT's permission. I know I'm not the only one that will be doing so.

RK- I bet you get a ticket outside the gate for fairly cheap still. Also, you don't need no stinkin' AC, it's Fall :)!

Coosa- I just think it is silly to get upset with any voter in a poll during week 5 of the season, no matter how much you agree or disagree with them.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Let me clarify a post form about 2 days ago about the Isom suspension.

The 3 game minimum I heard was based on the the rumor of what team rule he broke. If that rumor is not true, then of course the 3 game thing is possibly wrong also.

I had one source, a former player, pass this info along. He could be wrong, but I just wanted everyone to know.

    ReplyDelete
  65. ok, my modem at home went kaput so no internet there, then the audio on my HD tv went out. thus, i missed reading about Tiger Walk and missed calling in to the AUFBI (sorry fellas, i was gonna call). gggrrrrrr.

i can't wait to dance down Neyland Ave. with my Trooper Towel!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Phred-I loved the post.

Too bad you had to hold back.

Jet, et al-anyone up for a HABOTN lunch out Eastchase way, Momma G's on Friday.

  67. Tubs segment is just starting on Jox right now.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'd like to know what xCTT ha to say.

    ReplyDelete
  69. says it's a joke that neither AU nor Missouri are in Top 25 (interestingly he did not address the Iowa situation).

    ReplyDelete
  70. Anonymous7:56 AM

But isn't the Iowa situation crucial to Auburn? I mean, considering how much it was discussed here...

    ReplyDelete
  71. So what all did Tub have to say other than the rankings?

    ReplyDelete
  72. He thought we would beat Tennessee

    ReplyDelete
  73. This post is for Salsa- Dude, you are pathetic. Your post copying my comments on here to the bama boards has been sent to me. Are you getting a little worried about what we are doing in Auburn that you must spend your time looking at Auburn boards? Get a life dude.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tubs says if we stay healthy and win this weekend then things could setup very nicely for us.

    ReplyDelete
  75. RK, that's the only ranking he discussed for 2009....however, he did reflect back to 2004 and how AU beat 5 top 10 teams and Oklahoms beat ZERO and still played for the NC. :(

he said we would be ranked after this weekend and UT's line cannot handle Antonio Coleman.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I wonder how Tommy feels watching basically the same team as last year being far far more effective.

It's got to be a mixed feeling of pride and disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  77. RK- I think Tubs can now sense that most people know he was asleep at the wheel for the last couple of years.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Shane from Centerpointe called in and asked Tubs if he took the defensive playbook with him when he left. it was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous8:15 AM

Eddie - asleep at the wheel

Just like the captain of the Exxon Valdez

    ReplyDelete
  80. Good morning Hotties - not much in store for me this morning at the office but there are 18 holes in my future this afternoon. So I got that going for me, which is nice. So, what do y'all think about the BC coaching and Iowa ranking situations?

    Keep Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Tubs did say one reason we weren't ranked this year was because we stunk it up so badly last year.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Cincy- It would have been better if his quote would have been Auburn should have been ranked if not for my crappy coaching last season :).

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yeah, that is kind of what he said, just not in so many words. :) I have been impressed that he hasn't made excuses for last year - at least I haven't heard him.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Eddie - I agree that its silly to get upset about a poll anytime; in fact, its silly to get upset about anything to do with college football. Its just a game, and they're not gonna let me play a down.

Still, its something to talk about. And if they don't want them talked about in week 5, then don't put them out there.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I think Tommy has handled his departure from Auburn very well so far.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Coosa- You have a valid point. Thanks again for calling in last night. It was a pleasure to talk to you.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm channeling all my hate for Bama and Notre Dame into one huge F5 tornado of hate for UT and Kiffen. Everyone join with me. HABOTN twins ACtivate! In the form of ... Antonio Coleman! (who are you going to be?)

    ReplyDelete
  88. scottie...
We're all counting on you to lead a grassroots Tiger Walk campaign when you hit the ground Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  89. ...form of Josh Bynes.

    ReplyDelete
  90. guess i need to get my UNOFFICIAL TIGER WALK LEADER shirt made. you know, to officially make it unofficial.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think it's a great thing to just have our own Tiger Walk.

The players won't expect it since I'm sure they have been told that it wouldn't happen this week.

    ReplyDelete
  92. ACTIVE AUBURN STREAKS

19 -- Number of consecutive wins with Gene Chizik on the coaching staff.

4 -- Consecutive wins this season.

1 -- Games that Lee Ziemba has not had a false start.

    Let's keep streakin' AU!

    ReplyDelete
  93. You know that by UT stating that they don't want us to hold Tiger Walk that this is going to be one of the biggest road Tiger Walk's in modern history.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Dang Jet, I know you didn't just jinx Ziemba. Now i'm just going to wonder what quarter the false start is coming in and I hope that the answer is not multiple quarters. Way to go. I'm blaming you when it happens :).

    ReplyDelete
  95. Scottie- You once again let the Beasley post go untouched. I guess I decree the Beasley Post DOA.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If we keep the tempo fast like Gus wants, then their crowd won't have time to build noise...so maybe Ziemba can make it 2 in a row.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Eddie, you've been up here with the team. there's only 1 way in for the visiting team, right? i guess they would have to pull the bus inside the gates instead of letting the players off outside. if 200 people throw themselves in front of the bus then it'll have to stop, right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. i know Eddie. stupid work. ggrrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I believe the buses cannot pull directly into the parking area on arrival if I remember correctly. It takes some fenagling to get the busses in there so I'm almost sure the players will get out and have a short distance to walk to the locker room, unless they gate off the whole area which I don't see happening. I think this blows up in UT's face.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Eduardo ...

  103. I don't believe in Beatles;
    I just believe in me.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Eduardo ...

That ain't hex or jinx ... that's TRADITION!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Love the Tigers and Hate the Vols this week!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Eddie, you bring your John Cusack boombox with AU Band cd and you can substitute for the band. J-Z and me will lead the Bodda Getta's. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  107. When I think of Auburn at Tennessee ...

Pat Sullivan's worst day ever, then two years later driving the team down the the field for an amazing 10-9 victory.

The heartbreak of fumbling at the goal line, ending an opportunity to win, then Pat Dye giving his greatest speech ever in the lockerroom when it was over. Two years later, we won.

    The debacle of 1985.

Letting one slip away into a 20-20 tie in 1987, then pouring rain in 1989 and lost.

The doom of the 1991 game which had the freshly broken Eric Ramsey story looming over it.

The bumbling start in 1999, including the finger from Damon Duval.

The pure joy of 2004 ... has Jason Allen recovered yet?

Don't be intimidated, but take nothing for granted.
