Hey everyone. Wideout Montez Billings, the Auburn graduate whose academic problems lingered months after graduation, announced today that he won't be back in 2009.
Officially, he left the team for "personal reasons." Coach Gene Chizik said last month that he had suspended Billings for first four games. That suspension was levied for unspecified reasons.
"We appreciate what he gave to the football program during his career and wish his the best in future endeavors," Chizik said.
Billings finishes his college career with 55 receptions for 645 yards. He played in 34 games.
Slow, but 1st?
ReplyDeleteOutta here! Hope to see some of you in Auburn tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWow - 3 Close as I've been in a while
ReplyDeleteLike to know the inside stroy on Billings.... Any rumors out there?
ReplyDelete"Well...bye." - Powers Booth as Curly Bill in Tombstone
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Kanye West is to blame for this shizzle.
ReplyDeleteTombstone is at the top of my list of modern westerns. Its a crime Val Kilmer didn't win the Oscar for that performance.
ReplyDeleteMMmmmm.... May have to pull that DVD out tonight.
Well done Sensi. One of the most quoatable Western/Film of all time. Try this one on for Tez:
ReplyDelete"I'm afraid the strain was more than he could bare."
That be Doc - Classic line.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the behind the scenes scoop, JGT?
ReplyDeleteHey WVU! I'm your huckleberry
ReplyDeleteI heard the game tomorrow is a sell out. It should be. Auburn fans have a lot to be excited about.
ReplyDeleteAU - 31
WV - 21
Most quotable western of all time? Blazing Saddles hands down.
ReplyDeleteI have to give a big thumbs up to Blazing Saddles! My wife had never seen it so I made her watch it about two weeks ago. I liked Wyatt Earp much better than Tombstone. Dennis Quad was a great Doc Holiday.
ReplyDeleteIm in the stands tomorrow for the game. These coaches are very familiar with the 3-3-5 defense especially Malzahn. They torch WV tomorrow and end up in the high teens of the AP poll. Kool-aid anyone?
Does this mean more pt for Hawthorne when he comes back?
ReplyDeleteI am going crazy waiting on this game tomorrow. I think it'll be big recruiting wise if we win tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI'm drinking that Kool Aid BigCat. I'll be there too, being loud and proud just like Coach asked.
ReplyDeleteI think Billings saw the writing on the wall. He was going to be way down on that depth chart.
ReplyDeleteArab on the march early... 1st and goal at the 7...
ReplyDeleteI don't know about y'all but I am tired of rain.
ReplyDeleteTD Knights!
ReplyDeleteMe too FSJ. Wettest September I can remember.
ReplyDeleteI am sick of the rain... I can't get any work done.
ReplyDeleteI am ready to get WET
ReplyDeleteAnyone still looking for tickets
ReplyDeleteScottie B was looking for a ticket. Is he on tonight?
ReplyDeleteTallassee is on lightning delay

I sent my son to the Opelika/Enterprise game. I wish I could have gone but we have people coming in for the game.
ReplyDeleteis it going to rain all day tomm. or just scattered??
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I want to make the trip to sit in a thunderstorm
Leader, I think it is just scattered tomorrow; 40%. The past 2 weekends it has been 30% chance of rain and we didn't get one drop.

ReplyDeleteAnd you must be Ringo. Look, Darling, Johnny Ringo. The Deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. What do you Think, darling? Should I hate him?

About him. Something around

Of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I
Hate him.
reminds me of my first encounter with an Alabama fan
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI made the first game and it about burned me up watching on TV..... esp when I saw NO RAIN...
I was at the game last Saturday and never got high but I sure was dry.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed it and would have even it had rained.
I heard today that the chances of rain at kickoff were up to 70%. I dont believe it though. I plan on losing my voice in section 107 tomorrow rain or shine!
ReplyDeleteBigCat, the weather channel highest percentage on Saturday is 40%, but I'll be there rain or shine too. My ponchos are packed.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear Kat! Are you tailgating or will that depend on the weather?
ReplyDeleteDL did you tell that bama "I'm your huckleberry!"?
BigCat, I don't tailgate. We park and walk around the campus. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive down. We are scheduled to leave at 10 in the morning. This week I'm bringing my sister, my 20-yr old daughter, another 21-year old girl, and myself. My sister will be the one walking around campus yelling "Hottie Hooooooo!!!" My oldest daughter and my grandkids arrived there tonight.
ReplyDeleteAUBIGCAT..
ReplyDeleteNah,,, it looked like somebody just walked over his grave.
if i make it you can find DL under the magnolia tree across from the library parking deck...

ReplyDeleteScottie you have mail
ReplyDeleteHoly Tre Blackmon Batman, I didn't see this one coming.
ReplyDeleteI bet there is a hidden story behind this one, like he was angered that Derek Winter beat him out for the sweet spot on the bench or something.

Going to call it a night. Hope to see some of you tomorrow in Auburn. War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteStorm, you have mail too.
ReplyDeletenite Kathy! come visit at Kristina's tailgate spot tomorrow at 3pm!
Scottie sent you my cell number call me tomorrow if you still need a ticket. I will be near the parking garage.
ReplyDeletePlainview is beating Priceville 50-0 at halftime...
ReplyDeleteWoops... just started the 3rd qtr... 57-0 now.
Miller, there has to be a better word than beating for a 57-0 lead. Maybe mauling would be more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteDoes "Squeaking by" work??
ReplyDeleteMontez, Montez why you mess with my heart??
ReplyDeleteJay Tate hates Dontae Aycock questions...
ReplyDeleteLet me remind everyone that tomorrow is low key day at the zookeeper's tailgate site.
ReplyDeleteYea, Aycock questions are terrible. I will go with the Rollison questions.
ReplyDeleteMontex Billing had a cool moustache. I wish I could grow a moustache.
ReplyDeleteJay G Tate are you around? I found out we have a mutual friend...well you used to work with the guy.
I don't think Mr. Billings spells it with an X at the end...my bad.
ReplyDeleteFresno decided to show up. I was about to turn this one off.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteThats what the wife and I do, most of our friends dont come to the games b/c they have little ones so we dont tailgate. We park and walk around, wife shops and I get in return a Tiger Melt from Blue Bagel, draft beer and sec football on the flat screens.
Jay,
Jeff Davis = the demise of Montgomery public school football.
I agree Montez saw the writing on the wall. The wide receiver list is long.
ReplyDeletewhat Kristina really means is that's it'll be a free for all at old Foy tomorrow! ZOMBIE NATION!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKNIGHTS SCORE! :56 seconds left in the game... Arab goes up 21-14!
ReplyDeleteKristina means it's popcorn spray for everyone...
ReplyDeleteWe'll have fun still, just don't expect the TV...or popcorn.
ReplyDeletei'll bring the Redneck Golf!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteArab Wins! Arab Wins!
ReplyDelete21-14 over Madison County.
Drinks on zookeeper tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteFaker, if you ever showed your face in Auburn, we would buy you a drink, yes.
ReplyDeleteFSJ, if you stop by tomorrow you're welcome to my cooler. ;)
ReplyDeleteI still have designs on making my way to Auburn in November....
ReplyDeleteok, i'm out. hope to see some of yall peeps tomorrow. K, lemme know if you need me to bring anything. gotta get some sleep.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip scottie.
ReplyDeleteOk I now love Brett Favre again after seeing that Sears commercial.
ReplyDeleteBring your own popcorn to Zookeeper's tomorrow. And don't even THINK about a tv.
ReplyDeleteK,
ReplyDeleteThat Sears commercial is pure genius!
I understand something serious happened to the Opp Head Coach after the game and he was rushed to a hospital.
ReplyDeleteIf you have any details, text me or call me at 334-750-0090
Thanks for the score updates.

ReplyDeleteSensi - can I text you with the details of our dinner tonight?
ReplyDeleteSure, Norm
ReplyDeleteI find it unique that people that viewed us as having no talent or playmakers earlier feel that Billings, our top returning receiver, wouldn't be able to crack the starting lineup. How opinions have changed.
ReplyDeleteI also view tomorrow as our chance to make a splash on the national stage. Both West Virginia and Auburn were ranked in the top 10 early last season and dropped like rocks. Now, this game is our chance to re-establish ourselves in the national media.
By the way, MTSU (Tony Franklin) defeated Memphis last weekend, 31-14. Fear the Franklin.
ReplyDeleteFresno is definitely making a game of it now. Great catch...bad D.
ReplyDeleteFresno State has come to play. Oregon is looking worse and worse to me.
ReplyDeleteSensi - looks like you're spared. I'm downstairs and the cell phones are upstairs. Suffice to say that dinner with just the wife (such as tonight) is a much better meal with multiple courses, a quiet environment, excellent food and a MUCH higher price tag than a dinner at a family/kid friendly place which is none of the above.
ReplyDeleteLook at Kristina going all Gene Chizik on us and trying to manage our expectations for the tailgate tomorrow. Everybody knows she's the Coach Gus of tailgating.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the popcorn from the upper deck concession stands has much better separation velocity and a higher viscosity than that of the popcorn from the lower level.
MTSU had 436 yards of offense against Memphis. WTF? Worship Tony Frankin.
ReplyDeleteYou would know, JZ
ReplyDeletej-z - how about a music review from the day?
ReplyDeleteSteve....please.
ReplyDeleteTony Franklin? Never heard of him.
ReplyDeleteBwahahaha!!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Ole Miss was off last week and apparently had 30 players out with the flu. Talk about scheduling luck, they had it.
Hello Hotties,
ReplyDeleteWhat is the shortest tenure as a college coach?
Am i wrong or can the ball not be advanced by another player. Happened to Au in GA, shouldn't have been a TD.
ReplyDeleteMike Price maybe...
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of Price myself. He certainly committed stupicide quicker than most.
ReplyDeletetrue... he didn't even do spring practice did he?
ReplyDeleteOr the coach that was hired but lied about his resume, at Notre Dame maybe...could be wrong on that one.
ReplyDeleteThat is another good one. That is the dude that is now at South Florida, I believe.
ReplyDeletePrice did spring practice I believe. His crotch just got him in trouble in the early summer if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteA crotch has brought a many good men down. HA HA
ReplyDeleteOh yea, ask Gary Hart or Jimmy Swaggart.
ReplyDeleteI think the coach you are talking about is George O'Leary, the present coach at Central Florida.
ReplyDeleteNight yalls until the morrow.
ReplyDeleteNorm, I didn't get to listen to the Willie/Wynton today. I took the wrong Ipod with me. I listened to the new Phish album, Joy, for a while this morning though. It was definitely worth downloading. I was going to swap Ipods this afternoon, but I got preoccupied with something else.
ReplyDeleteMy father-inlaw ownes a gas station here in town, he brought me a life size poser of Chiz with a Coke Zero.
ReplyDeleteI put my arm around it and took my pic. with it told all my friends I was a new recruit. Made for a good laugh..
George O'Leary is correct.
ReplyDeleteGood night folks and WAR Eagle!!!

Why do I want Boise State to lose so badly?
ReplyDeleteBecause you know that I picked them in the weekly. You're just mean.
ReplyDeleteBecause they have a blue field?
ReplyDeleteSome might even call me evil.
ReplyDeleteI just really don't want to hear about whether they should be in the BCS CG if the run the table. Join a real conference and then talk to me.
Some might indeed. You do have a point though...If they want the respect that the teams in the big boy conferences get, they should join a big boy conference.
ReplyDeletezookeeper..
ReplyDeleteThere is a good chance that you are indeed evil..
You are a woman after all..
I said that once to my better half and I was forced to pull over on the side of the interstate ...
to listen to a lecture on how I should be more kind.
Because Boise State is one of the few teams that can make Orange and Blue look ugly?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, check out the Auburn Insider's Pics to get an idea of how we will do this weekend.
Dang. The last time I remember being in a car that pulled over to the side of the road, I was on the wrong end of a belt manned by my father. I think I'd prefer that to your event.
ReplyDeleteYeah...nothing good happens on the side of the interstate...
ReplyDeleteYou guys have no idea what you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteCare to explain zookeeper?
ReplyDeleteSo what else is new?
ReplyDeleteI am not evil is what I meant.
ReplyDeleteWould a woman lie?
ReplyDeleteGreat defense being played tonight in California.
ReplyDeleteNorm, I think your Boise State pick is safe.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say we thought you were evil, but others might.
ReplyDeleteNice save, JZ
ReplyDeleteI'm silky smooth like that.
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here getting ready to hit the sack in anticipation of tomorrow night's game. What makes this game experience especially meaningful to me is that I am introducing a very special person I have met to their first big time SEC and, more importantly, AUBURN game. I am hopeful of a win so that we can take in all the Auburn experience. I want to get into Jordan Hare so that we can soak in the atmothsphere, and hopefully not get soaked by rain.
ReplyDeleteI believe that we should win the game tomorrow. I am confident that the crowd will do its part to give the team as much advantage as they can give them, much like when Florida and Chris Leak and Tebow came to town.
I will say that I have honestly heard more profanity at one JV game recently in KY than I have heard in 9 years of going to AU games.
I am in the process of packing up my house to head north to Ky, but I am still going to get to as many AU games as I can.
My pick for tomorrow is AU 42 WVA 17.
Phew. Now that I know that my pick and j-z each appear to be safe, I'm going to bed. Peace out and Keep Hate Alive.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you iron those khakis before you go to bed.
ReplyDeleteBe safe Denny and have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWar Eagle!
what's wrong with khakis?
ReplyDeleteDangit Kristina! Maybe you are indeed evil. I will of course blame you if I start the week off with a loss tonight.
ReplyDeleteJZ dont make me stick up for Norm by mentioning your socks.
ReplyDeleteFresno State ain't no joke.
ReplyDeleteYou just did.
ReplyDeleteI purchased some new metrosexual socks to wear tomorrow. If we lose the game, it's your fault.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping my comment would jinx them actually. I can do voodoo, ya know.
ReplyDeletej-z - Iron my khaki's? That's crazy talk right there. That's women's work.
ReplyDelete"What's wrong with lumberyards? I own two of them."
"I notice you don't spend much time there."
"I'm not sure where they are."

ReplyDeleteI mean...apparently.
ReplyDeleteGood grief...
ReplyDeletePlay some defense.
Norm, you know that the term "woman's work" is the quickest path to celibacy?
ReplyDeleteDefense, try it sometime. Either one of you.
ReplyDeleteAnnouncer "What more can you ask for in this game?"
ReplyDeleteUh....defense?
I thought marriage itself was a pretty quick path to celibacy. Maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years.
ReplyDeleteNah.
So has Dave Matthews sold his soul to ESPN this year or what?
ReplyDeleteI adore Dave, but yeah that breaks my heart a little.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNorm..
ReplyDeleteLOL...
OK, NOW I'm going to bed pick safe or not. I like living on the edge.
ReplyDeleteThat was a collision.
ReplyDeleteOOoh, the superman hit!!!
ReplyDeleteFresno's QB has no fear.
ReplyDeleteEither that or he forgot to run out of bounds.
Don't be a stranger, Denny!
ReplyDeleteSo that's like the 10th time I've gotten kicked out of Facebook tonight. What's the deal with that?
ReplyDeleteGah...hate Boise State. Maybe someone will knocked the @##$% out after.
ReplyDelete*get knocked
ReplyDeleteI picked Boise State in pickem, so I must go with them, dang it!!!
ReplyDeleteFresno State don't know when to quit. Their uniforms look like crap, but their effort is commendable.
ReplyDeleteAmazing game! Miracle in the Wiregrass!
ReplyDeleteDown 17-13 with 18 seconds to go, Saint James throws up the prayer, and gets a 79-yard gain to the 1 with 5 seconds to go. It was about a 40-yard pass and the big tight end lumbered to the 5, and carried the pack to the 1. Saint James blasts in from the 1 with 1.2 seconds to go. STJ intercepts a pass on the final play.
Opp's coach was rushed the hospital, which is conveniently located 200 yards from the stadium.
Sounds like an incredible finish, Jet. Man, I love football.
ReplyDeleteSteve ... the video is on www.wsfa.com. I think it's under the Friday Night Fever link.
ReplyDeleteWSFA reports it was an 84-yard pass to the 1.
It was a 90 minute drive home for ElTurbo and me, and we sat there shaking our heads the whole way.
THT ...
ReplyDeleteDid you call me tonight at home? I got a scratchy message at the house, and it sure sounded like the phrase "Tar Heel Tiger" was involved.
Thanks Jet, I am going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteMan, that Opp coach committed stupicide with his QB taking a knee.
ReplyDeleteGainesville.
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing that highlight, Jet.
ReplyDeleteIt gave me a good segue into Tallassee's second quarter.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the part in the Movie Patton where his orderly George is helping him dress for the first battle with Rommel? Well, that is how I get ready for Auburn games, minus an orderly named George.
ReplyDeletei thought the 4 games was imposed by the NCAA clearinghouse for eligibility, not by Chizik. JGT makes it sound like Chizik picked 4 games. I can understand Billings would be frustrated with NCAA ruling, etc- but what would have the current staff contributed?
ReplyDeleteI get ready like that too Stan. Minus an orderly named George, of course.
ReplyDeleteThe word of the day is Redemption.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful and sunny in Bmore. Sorry everyone is wet in the south.
Aeronaut, feel better soon. Big game today!
ReplyDeleteI hope to see everyone at 3:00 at Kristina's tailgate, without expectations! No TV, no popcorn! I'll be the lady with short, red hair, and 3 other hot chicks in tow.
Looking at the radar, we might all need a hat!
Morning Hotties.
ReplyDeletePatton - a classic. I need to watch that again soon.
I'm near 'bout sick AND tired of all this rain here in the greater ATL area. I haven't been able to think about cutting grass all week and I leave town for the week on Monday morning. This presents a conundrum.
Keep Hate Alive
Just watched Auburn Every Day. Good stuff. Malzahn telling the team at halftime last week that this was a boat race. Play like it was a boat race. No one knew what he was talking about. Players asked Troop. He invented the boat race dance. Funny stuff. Also interviewed Trott. Sad to hear about his injury. He was really down when Lutz scored the TD that should have been his. Wonder if he will make it back this season. Hope so for that young man.
ReplyDeleteKathy - there was a new episode on tv? Mine recorded the first episode yesterday. Crazy. Is it available online?
ReplyDeleteNorm, I recorded last night's episode. It was a new one. It should be available online soon.
ReplyDeleteHey guys. Long time lurker. I'm from Opp (though don't live there now) and hoping your comments about our coach going to the hospital last night are joking because of the last minute loss (our second this season BTW)?
ReplyDeleteThanks for info and WDE!!
Norm, I just watched it online.
ReplyDeleteBoat Racing is the new term evidently.
It was cool to see the last shot of the episode was Eric Smith and Chiz hugging.
Chizik is wired on Gameday right now on ESPN. We are starting to get a bit of recognition nationally finally.
ReplyDeleteNice things to say about Auburn. All picked Auburn to win.
ReplyDeleteThe newbie killed the thread. Sorry about that.
ReplyDelete93grad - On behalf of the HABOTN, welcome.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes you did kill the thread.
93grad, everyone is just getting ready to travel. I'm heading to the Plains in 10 minutes. War Eagle. Check with you when I get home around 3:00 a.m.!
ReplyDeleteAnd so close to a new page. Such a shame.
ReplyDeleteJust watched episode 3 of Auburn football every day as well as the Chizik mic'd up on ESPN and from last week's game. It's hard not to get pumped up watching that.
ReplyDeleteWe need to turn this page.
ReplyDelete
