Talking and listening on a Thursday night

Hey everyone. We're doing two things tonight:

a.) Listening to Tiger Talk.

b.) Watching Clemson @ Georgia Tech on the tube. Or LCD. Or plasma.

Please participate in the comments section.

FROM TIGER TALK
  • On the week: ``It was business as usual. I'm really proud of the way they practiced."

  • On Tiger Walk: ``I was getting in the moment with the fans."

  • On Eric Smith's situation: ``Eric Smith will be playing Saturday night. We've moved on. We're proud ot have him back. I assure you that he's a better Auburn man now than he was three weeks ago."

  • On assistant coaches continuing to participate in Tiger Walk: "I want them to be a part of the whole thing. That's one of the things that makes Auburn great. They ate that up. They had a great time."

  • On handling blowout wins: ``We're never going to run the score up on people. That's not us."

  • On Eltoro Freeman's situation: ``We're really hoping he can play Saturday. It's been one of those situations where he has looked close. There's a fine line. We don't want to lose him for another three weeks. We have to have caution."

  • On Anthony Gulley: "He's one of those guys we're trying to get prepared week by week. He was a little big-eyed (returning punts). You're going to see him play more and more."

  • On getting 556 yards against Louisiana Tech: ``It is exciting. That's where we're starting and we're hoping to build on that every week."

  • Chizik said TE Tommy Trott played 77 of the team's 79 snaps last week.

  • Auburn is working under the assumption that Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, the former Florida offensive czar, will run the same schemes he ran at UF and Utah. They're not expecting major tweaks based on Mullen's lack of Utah- and Florida-caliber players.

  • On the number of plays Auburn wants to run each week: ``In a perfect world, we run 90 to 95 plays in a game. We want to lead the country. The pace matters."

  • On Derek Winter: ``Derek Winter is playing. He played some Saturday -- more in a special-teams role. He was out there."

  • On Mario Fannin's running habits: ``He needs to do a little bit better job (of running north-south). He's going to get his touches because he's such a great athlete."

  • On Onterio McCalebb: ``I really want to tempter the expectations. I want him to stay humble and keep working. That's how he got where he is. We just have to keep him honest and keep him working."

  2. hope this game is better than last week's match-up.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Now that if funny..

Pooch kick returned for a TD.

    ReplyDelete
  4. i listened to TigerTalk last week but can't figure out how this week. Anyone got a link.

    Wow, nuther Tech score

    ReplyDelete
  5. it's already got more points, Wes

    ReplyDelete
  6. Clemson is putting on an exhibition...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I said in the other thread, I'll say it here. GT is best in the ACC. They look good. I felt that way before the season and nothing is changing that perception right now.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Umm.... Is Clemson playing like this because of the purple unis?

Clemson is either REALLY bad, or GT is pretty dang good... or both. I say both.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm guessing the scout team didn't run it as well as GT is doing

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't know how you can tell...Clemson isn't even putting up a fight.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't know if GT looks good or if Clemson is pulling of the best self-destruction skit of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Paul Johnson is a heckuva coach btw..

I was very afraid that someone in the SEC would hire him.

    ReplyDelete
  13. clemson is always such a disappointment...it bothers me when folks call it "the other auburn". what an insult.

    ReplyDelete
  14. nope, that one is GT's ball

    ReplyDelete
  15. Can GT's offense work in the SEC, though?

    ReplyDelete
  16. that's the thought I was having JGT. And my answer is, no.

    ReplyDelete
  17. People wondered whether Florida's would work too.

With the right talent he would win anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  18. anyone have a link for tiger talk

    ReplyDelete
  19. with the right talent he wouldn't have to run that offense

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jay G- I believe Johnson's offense can work in the sec just fine with the right athletes, provided he is the only one running that type of offense.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hideous coaching decision.

Don't burn the timeout, take the 5 yard penalty, and punt the ball.

Instead, you pooch it without your normal coverage, and you get torched.

I've never understood why coaches so quickly use the timeout there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. No tiger talk for me (dangit), but now that clempsun is down by a few, the c0ck$ fans are coming out of the woodwork. I'm amazed at the reaction of the fans of a team that barely eaked out a win against a middle-o-the-road acc team. Yes, this assumes that Ga Tech is good.

    Is it Saturday yet?

    ReplyDelete
  23. That commercial involving Quentin Riggins is ... awkward.

    Who describes himself as underrated?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow! Is this Clemson's peewee team?

    ReplyDelete
  25. OMNICA to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you Monica!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mon...
I just read the specifications on the PT-2700. I'm breathless.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I LOVE IT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. hahahahahaha Ehyou

    you crack me up

    ReplyDelete
  30. That GT fake FG TD is priceless after the disaster of a fake fg/ pooch punt by Clemson. Clemson fans better start hitting the booze.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Chiz needs to reassess his goals

    ReplyDelete
  32. This just in ... Paul Johnson has put the "Kick Me" sign on Dabo's back.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So Jay G, as an AP voter, what kiind of impact is GT making on you?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Eddie: Too early to tell.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I definitely think Paul Johnson would be a successful SEC coach. I'm not sure about the offense he currently uses, though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll say it again. This is Clempsun. They're not good.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Glad to see my favorite NBA player sign with Memphis today. Should be a fun year!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree Lowcountry...

    Clemson is horrible.

Either that or they should never play in Atlanta again.

    ReplyDelete
  39. when they come back, they'll talk about who saw their first action in an Auburn uniform.

    hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  40. when i was in little league baseball we beat Clemson 29-2. Oh, wait, that was Clemmons.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think this is the first time I've seen a team score two touchdowns on fake field goals, once on offense and once on defense.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Clemson is just dominating time of possession. They are sure to win.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anybody ever been to Grant field?

That is a weird looking place....

    ReplyDelete
  44. God, i'm glad football is back. GT game and Steelers game. Fun Fun Fun.

    ReplyDelete
  45. FSJ - yep, '65, '67, '69, '71, '73, '75, and '87

    ReplyDelete
  46. FSJ- I've been there several times, usually on Thursday night games like tonight. I passed up the chance to go tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow, just running all over them

    ReplyDelete
  48. FSJ- I also meant to say it's a small horshoe type place with no bad seats. The upper decks are a great view.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Chizzy does a great job with the fan questions and the Tiger Talk show in general.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with FSJ, it looks weird. I agree with Eddie the upper deck is great because it isn't in the stratosphere

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wow..Clemson held them to three.

    Outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Just wanted everyone to know that I love Mrs. Jett. She is the best!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Chizik said TE Tommy Trott played 77 of the team's 79 snaps last week.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Does Mrs Jet know you're in love with Mrs Jett?

    ReplyDelete
  55. If anyone needs "great wife" lessons -- just let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am glad to see we won't run up the score on people, but winning decisively would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think T.J. in Moody (Tiger Talk caller) is having a good time tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jay, I have heard that the coaches like Trott's blocking. Is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Interesting comment about the offense, JGT. He wants to "build on" the 556 yards every week but he doesn't want to run the score up. I don't know that you can commit 100% effort to both goals.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow,That Tech commercial looked a lot like Samford Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  61. John Heisman is the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Beautiful pass. There you go Tigers.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Trott played that much? wow.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The Tech Building in the commercial and Samford hall have a lot in common.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I haven't asked much about Trott lately. I was waiting on him to do something.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I heard Trott had a good game blowing up DBs. It kind of surprised me. I didn't notice him that much during the game.

    ReplyDelete
  67. maybe i should call in : WHERE'S FRIGGIN' GABE MCKENZIE? u telling me John Douglas is better than G-Mac? puh-leeeze.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Isn't Gabe coming off an injury of some sort?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Only one segment of TT remaining!

    ReplyDelete
  70. so, after 12 games, our # plays/game avg will be...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Gabe is coming off a "personal problem."

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks Jay G, I knew it was something.

    ReplyDelete
  73. THT, I read where Tulsa started out at 70 something plays a game at the start of the season and were around 90 by the end.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Eddie -great minds think alike

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love that the Braves can only score 1 run in in a game to waste a Tommy Hanson 8 inning shutout and then score 6 runs in the first two innings of the next game. And by love I mean hate.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hater:

You're giving me lots of material for tomorrow's gig already.

    1. Yes, Paul Johnson's deal can work anywhere.

    2. Iverson? Really? Dude. A shoot-first point guard who quit on the Pistons last year because he didn't like coming off the bench? Really?

    3. We hope to have the static issues cleared up for all the HOTTIES listening on the interwebs.

    Love,

    J. Kev

    www.supersport930.com

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think we should average 88 plays/game ...BEASLEY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Eddie, you're FAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Rivals has Dyer at 85% Auburn and "may be just a matter of time".

    ReplyDelete
  80. THT- LOL, I was ready for you that time.

    ReplyDelete
  81. J Kev - Your anti static efforts are appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Mon - I'd rather it be 100% Auburn on his own time

    ReplyDelete
  83. If I was as good as Iverson, I'd be selfish. I know me. I'd want the rock and I'd make it rain.

He was a very bad man from 96-03 or so.

    ReplyDelete
  84. JKEV- Really enjoy the hatin with Jay G Segment. They are great.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Mon - thanks again for the TTalk link. I've bookmarked it now...just hope I remember.

    ReplyDelete
  86. For those of you that thought GT was a triple option team, watch this game. A lot of what they do is similar to what we do. They are basically a different type of spread team.

    ReplyDelete
  87. But has Iverson's candle burned out?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Tiger Talk has ended.

    ReplyDelete
  89. HABOTN Talk is just beginning

    ReplyDelete
  90. Digger, I'd say A.I. has one full year remaining. His attitude works only when he's really useful.

    Nobody wants a has-been asshat.

    Well, maybe the Minnesota Vikings.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm thinking there is a disconnect between Clemson's QB Parker and the rest of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anytime, THT. I'll be happy to remind you next week if you forget it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. note to self: keep BEASLEY!!! post short and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Minnessota will take a bag of bones as long as the last name is Favre. That is a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sorry for the interruption, Mrs. Jet has had her meds and I've recaptured the computer.

Someone please call 911 and get Dabo to the hospital, he may have a closed head wound.

    ReplyDelete
  96. THT- don't worry, you are like 40 up on me on the "Beasley" posts. I'll see if I can try and make a dent.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Excuse my ignorance, but what job did Coach Dabo come from?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mon - I appreciate you looking after us elderly folk.

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but it's ice cream time in my neck of the woods.

    ReplyDelete
  99. WDCWE- I believe he was the WR coach at Clemson last season.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Grandma HABOTN, ie my mom, has her alma mater playing No. 23 Cincinnati this week.

Please find it in your heart to support the Indians from Southeast Missouri State.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Rollercoaster! yeah yeah

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jay if he doesn't show quick I beleive he will shine the pine and quit

    ReplyDelete
  103. Win one for Grammie HABOTN!

    ReplyDelete
  104. That is an interesting move. Get rid of a perennially average coach for one of his assistants.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Go Native Americans!!!

    Or is the mascot Gandhi?

    ReplyDelete
  106. wdwce - I thought the same thing last year when they hired him...very peculiar. Don't know yet if it was the right hire or not, just very peculiar at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Gandma's team is in for a big hurt
but I say go grandma's team

    ReplyDelete
  108. Same play, same pass, same results. I know you need to get to the sidelines first, but catching the ball on the field seems more imperative right now for the Tigers.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Dabo was WR coach at Clemson last year I think.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Go SEMO! My youngest sister went there.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Cincy - how did she end up at SEMO?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Clemson's special teams are ... special.

    ReplyDelete
  113. What do I get for winning the Aflac Trivia question?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hold on to your time out boys we gonna get em later

    ReplyDelete
  115. That was too easy for us Auburn fans

    ReplyDelete
  116. How many teams did Heisman coach for? I knew that he brought the "Tigers" from Auburn to Clemson, but he was at GT too?

    ReplyDelete
  117. I hear Clemson now COME ON HALF TIME

    ReplyDelete
  118. yep, that was like asking who wore #34 at Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  119. Did Clemson hire Dabo before Tuberville resigned?

    ReplyDelete
  120. GT, Penn, Rice for sure, but not sure where elser.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Heisman coaching stops:

    Oberlin
    Buchtel College (Akron)
    Auburn
    Clemson
    Georgia Tech
    Pennsylvania
    Washington & Jefferson
    Rice

    ReplyDelete
  122. FSJ- I believe so, I think the removed the interim before Tubs "resigned", but i'm not completely sure.

    ReplyDelete
  123. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Heisman

    Good Job Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  124. courtesy of wiki - i didn't know the first two or W&J; and I always want to put him at Santa Clara... was that Pop Warner?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Clemson special teams are especially bad.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Dabo Swinney is a retard in over his head. He is also, I believe, a bama grad.

What Paul Johnson is doing to him is child abuse. I find it gut-bustingly funny.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I am being held hostage and not being allowed to watch football... someone save me please.

    ReplyDelete
  128. nope, Pop Warner had a stint at Stanford.

    ReplyDelete
  129. What have you learned about yourself as a QB?:
“That this is fun. This is easy. This is what I was made to do.”

    Was anything difficult?:
“The run up the tunnel at halftime,” he said. “That was brutal.”

Matt Barkley, USC QB and supreme tool

    ReplyDelete
  130. WDCWE- My wife knows useless trivia on celebrities, I hold my on in college football with Auburn Ties.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Wake give her a chocolate covered cherry and grab the remote while she's indulged

    ReplyDelete
  132. it's official...Santa Clara has never had a "big name" coach. Where on earth did I get that idea?

btw, Walter Camp also coached at Stanford

    ReplyDelete
  133. I thought so Eddie...

I bet they wished they had waited for a proven coach like Tubs.

    ReplyDelete
  134. A noble cause for sure, Eddie.

Nice blonde hair Coach Hotz. Why you don't look a day older than 25. Times 4.

    ReplyDelete
  135. JKev ...

Be nice. Dabo has Automatic Death Disease.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Wakerider:

Who wears the britches in your house?

    ReplyDelete
  137. Thank goodness Lou's Peptalk is back!

Matt Barkley may be embarrassed by those remarks some day when he's older. Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  138. finally... I knew there had been a big name coach at an obscure PACIFIC coast school

Amos Alonzo Stagg coached at Pacific the final 14 years of his ~57 year coaching career.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Holtz looks like he has been smoking 3 packs a day for his whole life.

True Fact on Holtz, at least while at South Carolina, he got an agreement with Wendy's to have a Frosty Machine put in the equipment room. Dude loves his frosties.

    ReplyDelete
  140. ElTurbo diagnoses him as having a nasty case of Bill Stewart Syndrome.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Hater:

Is there a compelling reason NOT to ahve a Campfire?

"I mean, you're here, and we're here, so wouldn't it be OUR time?"

    /Jeff Spiccoli

    ReplyDelete
  142. Lou's Pep talk ....I just changed the station for a while

    ReplyDelete
  143. I'm not at my house... and I'm not "with" the girl I'm with... so I don't see the chocolate cherry thing working.... but I'll try.

    ReplyDelete
  144. JKEV- I'm calling DEFAX.

    Go SEMO!

    ReplyDelete
  145. FSJ:

I think Clempsun figured they'd already had one career 8-4 with a history of under-achieving.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I like watching Lou, it makes me feel really smart and relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Lou Holtz = creepy old man who may have a collection of children's shoes in his attic.

    ReplyDelete
  148. With the feet still inside, JKev

    ReplyDelete
  149. Pete Carroll forgets to have his "work" done to his neck. It shows his age.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Lou has a Charlie Weiss shrine in his house, but it's like the Ring from Lord of the Ring, "My precious", he does more harm to him by hyping him up to watch him flop.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Stewardess bought me the most awesomely awesome awesomest hat today.

It's an Aubie head on top of the base of a cap.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Can't take Lou watching Tenn vs Pitt no score in second Qtr

    ReplyDelete
  153. why is Lou even on ESPN... Come on is he really that good for ratings

    ReplyDelete
  154. J Kev...I've often wondered how much Coach Tuberville's neck problems had to do with some of his perceived lack of interest/effort on the recruiting trail...

    ReplyDelete
  155. Tubs would have done a nice job in Lou's place, but I'm guessing Tubs only wanted a temp job to pay the bills :).

    ReplyDelete
  156. Yea he couldn't put beans and greens on the table without a part time job.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I just had to wake MrsTHT so I could take her pillow out. I had to wake the pillow also. Pillow=Molly dog

    ReplyDelete
  158. I think Tubs would be way boring.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Anybody understand a word Holtz just said?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Well Tubs would keep Mark May and Reese Davis from having to wear Rain gear all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I didn't understand a single syllable. Of course, my TV is muted.

    Mon- I agree. Dullsville.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Monica, why do you say that?

    ReplyDelete
  163. One could ask the same question about Lee Corso. Dude's made a career -- and lots of money -- by being a buffoon.

For that matter, who likes Dick Vitale? Man, I'm starting to really hate ESPN.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Lou said University of Spoiled Children. Other than that I'm not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I am pretty sure that the cameramen taping that segment. I would wear a raincoat if I ever met Holtz.

    ReplyDelete
  166. J.Kev- Don't stop there, your forgetting the biggest buffon of all, Chris Berman. I despise that guy. Needs to retire in the worst way. He was tiring 30 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  167. buffoon does not equate to boring

    ReplyDelete
  168. I like Lee Corso. At least he was entertaining. Dick Vitale used to be great before he became a characacher of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Eddie, you stole my joke.

    ReplyDelete
  170. MikeyC why do I say what?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Dr. Lou is a great motivational speaker. saw him in knoxville 3 years ago. it was cool.

    ReplyDelete
  172. WDCWE- SOrry, oh, and Stuart Scott is heading down that same road.

The best SC anchors are the LA Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  173. wdcwe - get in line. he stole my post long before he stole your joke ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  174. nope, not going to do it 100+

    ReplyDelete
  175. Maybe off camera Dr. Lou is better. When he's more relaxed...

    ReplyDelete
  176. unmute the tv, 2nd half kicked off

    ReplyDelete
  177. I'm into petty theft, sorry. Don't prosecute the asshat. :)

    ReplyDelete
  178. Tubs would be boring. I thought the media loved him at AU I think he would be pretty good at it.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Hey Monica - I gotta go to Brewton Saturday, and my kids are gonna meet us there to eat lunch. I've never been to Brewton - got a suggestion on where to eat?

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  180. it's all good, Eddie. Just shows you're on top of your game tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  181. into petty theft?

    hhhmmmmmm.

note to self: keep away away from scottie b's tailgate cooler.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Just made my week! haha..been school and working all day, the front page recognition has relieved my daily pain! 2 days!

    ReplyDelete
  183. I think the media loved him because he afforded them lots of access. That doesn't translate into him being entertaining on camera. Especially when put in the position of offering commentary, opinion, etc.

Just my opinion. He might end up being fantastic, but I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Nice run uh oh flag

    ReplyDelete
