Jay, you mentioned a possible campfire Thursday. Tomorrow night would probably be better. Thursday night SEC football kicks off. I have the remote, the TV, and the recliner. I am prepared.
How many tiimes do I have to remind you, do your school work first!
Three of our nominees received All-SEC honors during their Auburn careers, but only one was selected Academic All-SEC.
Jorge Portela - Miami, FL; PK 1977-79; ALL-SEC in 1977; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1978 & 1979 with a major in Electrical Engineering. Ranks in Auburn's Top Ten in career scoring and FGs made. His longest made FG: 52 yards. His best game came in his sophomore year when his 5 FGs, including a 51 yarder, enabled Chalie Trotman to emerge a winner in his first start at QB. The Tigers entered that Oct 29, 1977 game against the Florida Gators as underdogs, sporting a 3-4 record. John Crane had started the first 7 games. Coach Doug Barfield decided to play Trotman for a while, but Trotman had other ideas. He played well enough to stay in the entire game, completing 9-14 passes for 177 yds and a TD. Jorge Portela's five FGs provided the margin of victory as the Tigers downed the Gators, 29-14. Jorge Portela is the son of Cuban refugees. Jorge's niece, Lindsay Portela, signed a LOI to compete in equestrian and recently arrived for her freshman year on the Plains.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Gardner Jett - Atlanta, GA; PK 1970-72; ALL-SEC in 1970. His 42 yard FG with less than 10 minutes to play put Auburn on the board in the 1972 Iron Bowl. His 2nd PAT put Auburn ahead, 17-16. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, and I believe the FG was the longest of Mr. Jett's AU career to that point. He nailed a 52 yarder in the 1972 Gator Bowl as Auburn trounced the Colorado Buffaloes 24-3.
Kevin Porter - Warner Robins, GA; CB 1984-87; ALL-SEC in 1987.
Al Del Greco - Key Biscayne, FL; PK 1980-83; a solid kicker who won the 1984 Sugar Bowl with 3 FGs as Auburn defeated the Michigan Wolverines 9-7. He ranks in Auburn's Top Ten in career scoring and FGs made. His longest FG at AU: 52 yards. He had even greater success in the NFL, playing 17 seasons with the Packers, Cardinals, and Oilers/Titans. Al spends a lot of his time on the radio these days, as does the man who overshadowed him in the SEC, Georgia's Kevin Butler.
Rusty Williams - Monck's Corner, SC; RB 1996-99; led Auburn in rushing in 1996 and 1997, with a total of 716 yards during those 2 years.
Did you know they make chicken wing flavored Doritos? Not as good as the original Nacho Cheese model, but I think the good folks at Frito-Lay deserve an attaboy for trying.
I've pretty much had my stalker eye on him and that's the most definitive answer he's given on video. I think the reporter scored a nice little piece of tape.
Mikey - That's Auburn Sports saying that. Everyone knows Dyer has had Auburn in his top 3 for a while and then Auburn and TN, but this is the first time he's said just AUBURN.
Did someone mention tinkle time? I guess that is the cue for the old man to slip off to bed. Got a new and wonderful day ahead of me. First I must say my prayers which will include all of you, but in particular a sweet little girl that has more to deal with than any little girl or boy should have to deal with in life. I don't know you Abbie, but I know that your mom and dad love you very, very much and wished that you could be totally well. Perhaps you shall be because God grants wishes every day. It is my fondest hope that someday you will be able to run and play and do the things every little girl wants to do. So, in the meantime Abbie know that God loves you and so does an old man who wishes you the best of everything. Goodnight all and I love you also Abbie.
IV has such a way with words. You voice my sentiments so much better than I ever could. Abbie, FSJ and his family will remain in my prayers, along with Mrs. Jet.
Mon-I read an article that I think Kathy posted a link to and I thought in the first part they were saying he has committed to AU, then I read further that he said AU was the top choice with Tn & ole Miss 2nd, 3rd. He was going to announce early but now will wait closer to signing day. (I hated to read that part).
If anybody knows of an available job in the greater Gumptumpka Prattville area, I have a fraternity brother and dear friend who got laid off today. He is a construction project manager. The company he works for builds Rite Aids. Hard worker, good sense of humor and a decent amount of experience in this field. The only drawback is that he's a bammer.
For the record, I always eat a couple wings on-site, take a couple back to the room, and then I win the game the next day. So, mark this one down in the W column.
He didn't win any honors during his tenure at Auburn and he probably didn't play to his full potential, but I'd like to give a shout out to Robert Dunn - or R.D. as I always called him. I loved watching him scratch off and slap his helmet with both hands while waiting to return a kick.
Speaking of buying newspapers, just want JGT to know that we are long time Advertiser subscribers. However, it is my evening paper since I don't get to read it until then.
morning hotties. i was out of the loop last nite. looks like everyone was mostly well behaved. looking forward to tailgate practice tomorrow nite with S.Carolina & NC State. sweet!
Dyer rushes for 187 yards and four TDs last night in his season opener. Plus, he apparently had a game-saving tackle on defense, per Arkansas Scout site.
I was woken up by a kiss from a lady in a suit, and suddenly she was gone. I looked over, and there was a check for 50 bucks on my bedside table. I feel so dirty.
RK- Apparently it was a weak jab from what I read, he said that it will be very tough to bring coaches from all over instead of bringing the core of his staff from ISU like Tubs did when he came from Ole Miss. Apparently Tubs will be a regular every Wednesday morning around 8:30am on JOX. Should be worth listening to.
Jet- I also heard that Dyer was running around with an Auburn sign after the game that apparently said something like Auburn is in Dyer Need.
I just listened to the podcast of Coach Tuberville. I didn't really think it was a jab. He just said it was very difficult to bring coaches in from lots of different places and meld them together. Overall I thought he was pretty complimentary of Chizik and what he wants to accomplish.
Thanks Cincy, I only caught the second half and not that part, he sounded very good to me.
Michael Dyer seems like he is going to take his other visits ASAP and then commit to us more than likely, and according to the Arkansas Rivals guy, he expects it to happen soon and wish he would get over with and stop toying with the Arkansas fans.
Even though the true test won't be until the players are on the field, but I think CGC has proven that you can get coaches from different schools and be successful.
cincy- I can find no pictures of signs. It was posted by the Arkansas state, not Univ, rivals guy was at the game and he witnessed Dyer acknowledging 4 Auburn Fans that attended the game all night long and that he posed for pictures with said Auburn Fans. I'm sure those pictures will come at some point.
Morning Hotties - some coworkers and I just formed a lottery pool so I expect to be rolling in the dough in short order. But don't worry, I won't let it change me. That is all.
One?
ReplyDeleteJayGT - your video sure trumps the Eiffel 65 video that some bozo linked to on last thread
ReplyDeleteyippee ki yay!
ReplyDeleteMust be being 50!
ReplyDeleteCincy - let's show some confidence in that post!
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I'll go back and watch the video.
ReplyDeleteJay, you mentioned a possible campfire Thursday. Tomorrow night would probably be better. Thursday night SEC football kicks off. I have the remote, the TV, and the recliner. I am prepared.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Cincy!
ReplyDeleteI got buds all over the SEC (& GT) and there's one thing we all agree on - everybody hates Bama.
ReplyDeleteScottie suggested blogging during the USC game and I thought that was a fine idea.
ReplyDeleteSo it'll be Thursday.
Thursday night it is then.
ReplyDeleteWith that, I am OUT.
ReplyDeleteBeen here too long today. I'll speak with you HOTTIES later.
I've decided to just hate everybody. It cuts down on the confusion.
ReplyDeleteAnd just in case you're wondering 8 cups of coffee make j-z really pissy.
Well, Walt can give us some tips on eating wings.
ReplyDeleteDrive safely, Writer/Videographer Tate.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
IV has shared a great Iron Bowl story and you can see it at Auburn Tiger Tales.
ReplyDeletePut 3 points on the board!!!
ReplyDeleteT-minus THREE DAYS (and change) TIL KICKOFF!!!
HAPPY JORGE PORTELA DAY!!!
How many tiimes do I have to remind you, do your school work first!

ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for JGT to post a video without the "no beat writers were harmed" disclaimer.
ReplyDeleteIf it happens, I bet it will involve a Craig Stevens interview.
Did y'all hear what Dyer just said in that video???????
ReplyDeleteSome of the obscenities aside, the dad sounds strangely familiar to me.
ReplyDeleteJet, ya having posting issues there buddy?
ReplyDeleteChicken wings are exciting to me, Kristina.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
Actually, it was operator error.
Monica, the reporter hasn't been doing her home work I think every one knew that. she thought she just uveiled somthing new.
ReplyDeleteMon...that was totally worth the watch. He only gave one answer.
ReplyDeleteMikey - What other place have you seen Dyer say Auburn was his top one/official choice?
ReplyDeleteDid you know they make chicken wing flavored Doritos? Not as good as the original Nacho Cheese model, but I think the good folks at Frito-Lay deserve an attaboy for trying.
ReplyDeleteexactly, ehyou...
ReplyDeleteI've pretty much had my stalker eye on him and that's the most definitive answer he's given on video. I think the reporter scored a nice little piece of tape.
I want to start the Hottest Dorito Blog on the Net.
ReplyDeleteAuburn sports have said that Dyer was an Au guy for a while now. not a commitment but Au was on top.
ReplyDeleteehyou do you know I just realized that is my man, Will, in your avatar.
ReplyDeleteI lust him so much.
"led Auburn in rushing in 1996 and 1997, with a total of 716 yards during those 2 years."
ReplyDeleteWow, those final Bowden years were horrible running the ball.
Mikey - That's Auburn Sports saying that. Everyone knows Dyer has had Auburn in his top 3 for a while and then Auburn and TN, but this is the first time he's said just AUBURN.
ReplyDeleteSo stop taking a tinkle on my Dyer parade!
Evening:
ReplyDeleteCan we take up a collection so that Auburn's HC doesn't have to speak in front of a banner attached to a shower curtain rod with pull ties?
Sorry, I just think he is a sure thing. Seastrunk now... we shall see
ReplyDeleteThere were cyber rumors going around that Dyer commited today but, unfortunately he just confirmed we are his leader
ReplyDeleteTim Hudson back pitching with the Braves. Doing a pretty good job. Braves 3-2 end of three.
ReplyDeleteThat bothered me too BB.
ReplyDeleteLOL Big Bird!!! AMEN!
ReplyDeleteI hate that thing!
I'm out good nite
ReplyDeleteGoodnight Mikey. War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't scare you away. I do that.
Our lil freshmen are gonna have to grow up quick saturday night
ReplyDeleteIm watching Cincy
ReplyDeleteYeah, Monica, now you're fussin' at guys that have tinkle at night.
ReplyDeleteThat's gonna hurt a bunch of us old guys.
shoot you logged off too fast, Jet
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd have something to say.
LOL
For some reason, I feel like I have to tinkle. As long as I'm up, I'll take it upstairs to bed.
ReplyDeletePeace out and as always, Keep Hate Alive.
sweet dreams, Normly
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the Dyer video, thanks Monica. I wish he'd just pull the trigger and commit but I am sort of impatient that way.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it, Big Bird. I totally agree. I wish they would just do it already.
ReplyDeleteIm nervous for saturday
ReplyDeleteyou're always nervous Hag
ReplyDeleteyou big girl
Did someone mention tinkle time? I guess that is the cue for the old man to slip off to bed. Got a new and wonderful day ahead of me. ReplyDeleteKevin Porter = the best DB besides #14 over the last 30 years.
ReplyDeleteKevin Porter ... signed with agent, lost his eligibility, and dang near cost Tracy Rocker his eligibility.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'.
IV has such a way with words. You voice my sentiments so much better than I ever could. Abbie, FSJ and his family will remain in my prayers, along with Mrs. Jet.
ReplyDeleteIf profanity offends you, don't follow this link, but if you can take the profanity, it is one of the most hilarious things I have ever read.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but still the best DB of the 80's.
ReplyDeleteNot saying I didn't cuss his name a thousand times or two, though.
Kathy ...
ReplyDeletethanks ... mrs. jet doing much better tonight.
Snarkiness level back to 90 percent. Pointed out several of my shortcomings tonight. She should be ready for Saturday.
Your gonna tell me ur not Nervous?
ReplyDeleteInfidels are red,
ReplyDeleteTigers are blue,
It's time for me to say
Good night to you.
Later, HOTTITES.

ReplyDeleteGoodnight Hotties. War Eagle. One day closer.
ReplyDeleteuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 3 days
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not nervous, Hag.
ReplyDeleteWTC - Watch the video.
I'm outta here hotties. Won't be long til Molly dog wakes me up at 3:30. I get the double duty tomorrow 8 am to midnight. Must rest now.
ReplyDeleteWARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!!!
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love & Prayers for Abbie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEASLEY!!!
ReplyDeleteYES! Now I know I'll sleep well. I didn't even realize we were there.

ReplyDeleteI'm hearing tremendous news about Dyer
ReplyDeleteI took my sleepy meds and now I love everyone.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I always eat a couple wings on-site, take a couple back to the room, and then I win the game the next day. So, mark this one down in the W column.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Hotties! Not only is it Hump Day, but we're down to 3 days!!!! War Eagle!!
ReplyDeleteHe didn't win any honors during his tenure at Auburn and he probably didn't play to his full potential, but I'd like to give a shout out to Robert Dunn - or R.D. as I always called him. I loved watching him scratch off and slap his helmet with both hands while waiting to return a kick.
ReplyDeleteHappy Roshard Gilyard/Tony Bell day everyone!
ReplyDeleteIs the video working for ya'll? I get a quick flash - then nothing......
ReplyDeleteLT
Oh Yea - Sorry - Good Morning all!!
ReplyDeleteLT
Logan- That quick flash was Rusty Williams. Actually, the video just worked for me with no problems.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Rusty Williams, nobody got to the hole and danced in it more than Rusty did.
The majority of the mid 90's running backs did that Eddie.
ReplyDeleteThe line on the Florida/Char So game is 73.
ReplyDeleteI think I would take the Under on that one ehyou
ReplyDeleteehyou, I know nothing about betting. What exactly does that mean? And, put it terms my feeble mind can understand. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLuv, you would bet the combined total points scored by the two teams would either be greater than 73 or less than 73.
ReplyDeleteThe line on the UT/Western Kentucky Hilltoppers is UT - 29 1/2.
ReplyDeleteThe oddsmakers apparently love their Lane Kiffin.
If you bet on Florida, you're saying they will win by more than 73.
ReplyDeleteIf you bet on Charleston, you're saying that Florida will not win by 73.
LT...
ReplyDeleteThat's not the over/under, that's the line. Unreal I know.
So the LINE is 73? Not the Over/Under?
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!!
Think I would have to wager a coin or two on Charleston.
Where did you find a line on a 1-A team vs a 1-AA team?
ReplyDeleteUsually they don't have those.
I've never seen a 73 point line. I think in the 50's is the highest I've seen.
I'll try to find it again RK. It was some rinky-dink book. The major guys have it as 'off' as expected.
ReplyDeleteI checked the Don Best sports page & Danny Sheridan - didn't see it.
ReplyDeleteI will celebrate Rusty Williams Day by mediocre, underachieving, and highly disappointing.
ReplyDeleteJust kiddin'.
It's 3 days away, and I am wide open!
RK...
ReplyDeleteFact checking, what's that?
I missed the first part of the interview, but Tubs is on Jox right now. Heard he took a jab at Chizik already.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, let me clarify, I think the world of Tubs personally, very classy guy and did a lot of great things for Auburn.
ReplyDeleteEddie...
ReplyDeleteTaking jabs is in his current job description and should be taken with a grain of salt.
ehyou- I agree, I was just stating that it probably makes for good radio. I'm listening to him now, sounds good.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of buying newspapers, just want JGT to know that we are long time Advertiser subscribers. However, it is my evening paper since I don't get to read it until then.
ReplyDeleteWell since it's only -63, let me have Florida.
ReplyDeleteEddie,
Do you know what Tub said?
Tommy is the type that when he can get a slight dig in on someone, he'll take the shot.
"Take the shot kid!"
ReplyDelete-Han Solo

ReplyDeleteNorm, I'm now following that guy on twitter. Fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteKristina, if you like FML, you might like Texts From Last Night. It tends to be vulgar, but there are definitely some funny entries.
ReplyDeleteSomeone showed me this website yesterday, similar to texts from last night:
ReplyDeletehttp://mydrunkpix.com/
What I saw was safe for work, but I am not gonna keep pushing my luck there.
And of course, my favorite (which I have already mentioned here before) is lamebook.com.
And don't forget the classic awkwardfamilyphotos.com
Thanks Cincy, I only caught the second half and not that part, he sounded very good to me.
ReplyDeleteMichael Dyer seems like he is going to take his other visits ASAP and then commit to us more than likely, and according to the Arkansas Rivals guy, he expects it to happen soon and wish he would get over with and stop toying with the Arkansas fans.

ReplyDeleteEddie,
ReplyDeleteCan you find any pics of Dyer with his sign?
Thanks for your support, Ephemeral.
ReplyDeleteEven though the true test won't be until the players are on the field, but I think CGC has proven that you can get coaches from different schools and be successful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, I will check it out. Do you ever read the Overheard in New York stuff? Good stuff there too.
ReplyDeleteyeah. the whole Overheard series is pretty good.
