GAME DAY: Auburn @ Arkansas

Hey everyone. I have arrived in Fayetteville for this morning's game. Traffic here usually is hell. It was light today. Very few tailgaters around. Little buzz. It's too early.

So it goes.

UPDATES
  • As best I can tell, LB Eltoro Freeman is not here. I don't think he's in trouble. I don't think he's been disciplined. I think he's out on his own accord. I don't know that for a fact. We'll find out more later today.

  • G Byron Isom is dressed out.

  • Auburn warms up in two groups: offense and defense. There were 26 players on the defensive side. That would not count as an excess.

  • Arkansas' top WR, Joe Adams, is not dressed out. He apparently was injured in practice Thursday.

  1. We can not afford to lose linebackers. This team will test our defense for 60 minutes.

  2. This is one game the LB depth won't matter. We will be in Nickel a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I hope you are right Eddie. I hope we rush that QB all morning too.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why will Eltoro take himself out of the game?

    ReplyDelete

Will Arkansas nickel and dime our defense into oblivion?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Kathy- That is the story right now. I'm not sure what is going on, but there is something up with that.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sensi- If they had a running game, yes, but they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anonymous9:32 AM

FSU naming Jimbo Fisher CIW has turned into a major problem on that staff.

Lee Corso is all over that and is right.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm nervous too... but I belive that's because I remember how well Auburn played in early games and/or against Arkansas under CTT and company...

New staff hopefully equates into better preperation and better results!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Look, I was never a huge Corso fan, but he is gameday and it is sad to see him like this. He is trying hard, but struggling badly.

    ReplyDelete
  11. No, the problem at FSU is that Bowden didn't retire when he should have. Sorry, but his career will be tarnished by how it finished IMO.

    Good point, Eddie.

    Who had pig for breakfast?

I enjoyed a smoked sausage biscuit.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think AU will be able to control the game with the run. give the D some rest and be better than they were in the UT game.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm eating some pig right now Mr. S... going to be grilling some up too a little later today!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Morning Hotties - I'm getting my bacon on now. War Eagle!

  17. Oh.. Corso's making me sad. You're right- he's Gameday. Sad.
On another note- I'm nervous too Kathy. My laundry's got to get done in a hurry. My lucky AU shirt's in there and I've worn it every game!

    Smoking some sausage myself today.

    Ribs for the later games.

Says O-Line is the biggest problem.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Arky has running backs...

Maybe Eltoro is second guessing his transfer...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rumor is The Bull had a heated confrontation at practice. I'm sure he's struggling with the lofty expectations and little playing time. I hope it's something we can look back on in a year and chalk up to a valuable learning experience. You can't let your talent override the discipline you must have to scheme on the college level.

  24. This is the least electric SEC pre-game situation I've seen ... aside from Vanderbilt.

Hotties' Picks for Michigan @ Iowa:

The Maize and Blue or the Maize?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous9:55 AM

Vandy folks were in the library and the labs.

    What's Arkansas' excuse?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Least electric is good for Auburn I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Faccia quale che facciamo!

'ight hotties, i'm off for a much need jog.

    WAR EAGLE!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous9:57 AM

JGT - Why do you think that is? I hope in translates into the Hogs coming in flat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sensi.... I was all set to pick Michigan... until I heard that their starting RB (brown) didn't travel, and that it was snowing in Iowa. MI QB Forcier is from Cali... his first snow game won't be pretty without a running game. Gimme Iowa.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sensi..

For some reason I think Michigan wins.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hogs are getting marinated.... almost time to put them in the smoker!

    ReplyDelete

ESPN is working to create more controversy about Chizik vs. Gill. They just showed the "Boo!" video in a teaser "Controversy at Auburn?" again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous10:01 AM

Why is this story coming back around? I have seen it on Outside The Lines this week and now it is going to show on Gameday?

I guess we need to celebrate the 1 year anniversary?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Man that clip they just played going to a commercial was awful. Wonder if that guy goes to any games?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous10:02 AM

And did anybody ever figure out who that one person is that evidently has represented the entire University?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous10:02 AM

If they want to "celebrate an anniversary," why not the Franklin firing?

    ReplyDelete
  38. One hour to kick off!!
this is way too early for a football game!!
Hope the Tigers are wide awake.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous10:03 AM

Any word on whether or not we are the Pam Ward game?

    ReplyDelete
  40. THT 2.0...
    ti attualmente vive in Italia?

    ReplyDelete
  41. TV sports media love controversy any kind and will play to it at every turn.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous10:05 AM

Sensi - now that makes sense. Because on the ESPN crawl they showed that AU has 207 total points this year 1 point less then all of last yr. There is a story, the success of Malzhan

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous10:06 AM

digger - who works with Spielman, that is who it is. Is that Ward?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous10:07 AM

ESPN sounds like they are calling for a national moment of silence for Tebow.

    Good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Its crazy Sensi.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not sure about the TV teams but it could be.

    ReplyDelete
  47. it's Howdy Doody time errr Tim Tebow time

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous10:08 AM

What are you dining upon today, FSJ?

I still say Bama blows OM away today.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous10:09 AM

I forgot Pam Ward is from Baltimore and went to MD.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous10:10 AM

Actually DC and worked in Bmore. Your who cares fact for the day.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 50 minutes to kickoff.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sensi...

We are looking at some ribs today.......

    Ought to be tasty.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Quentin Groves is ready for BBQ!

    I am ready for BBQ!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous10:13 AM

    Enjoy 'em, FSJ.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous10:14 AM

Q may be getting ready for his team to relocate or draft Tim Tebow.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous10:14 AM

Is the crowd getting any better?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Love that pic at the top of the post.

What, are tickets first come, first served, and they fill in only one section at a time?

    THANK YOU CHRIS FOWLER!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous10:18 AM

I suppose that video will always accompany any discussion of Chizik at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous10:18 AM

My name is Jason Fowler and that is my smart cousin!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I hate that they take anything from the Paul Bammerbaum show

    ReplyDelete
  64. Isom is in uniform and warming up.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You folks forget, our struggles against Arky in the morning games were most noticable when we were at home.

I subscribe the 'early kickoff hurts the home team' meme. Let's hope the trend holds up today.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous10:20 AM

I actually saw Paul Finebaum defend Auburn on Outside the Lines. I was SHOCKED!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous10:20 AM

I like the all white unis.

    Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It looks chilly in Fayetnam

    ReplyDelete
  69. Eltoro is watching the game with me today. He is cooking the chicken wings. I will be sure to ask him if and when he will be back. It is kind of awkward to try to fit that question into conversation. We will see how it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Anonymous10:21 AM

Good deal for Isom. Take it like a man and handle your business. Hats too to John Sullen and Bart Eddins.

    ReplyDelete
  71. YES CORSO PICKED THEM

    ReplyDelete
  72. Has corso had another stroke? He is really struggling this morning...

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous10:21 AM

Lee Corso picks Arky. Off to a good start!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am nervous about this game but I'll be nervous against KY next week too even if we win.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hope the Corso curse works it's magic.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous10:22 AM

Michael - Once you have cans of courage I think the question will just flow naturally.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Speaking of cans of golden nectar I bought some extra, going to be a long day of football

    ReplyDelete
  78. Auburn warms up in two groups: Offense and defense.

There are 26 guys on the defensive side. How about that?

    ReplyDelete
  79. How about that ...one word SCARY

    ReplyDelete
  80. Michael, get you a smoker and smoke your wings, good stuff!! Maybe we'll have a cooking extravaganza at the IB ?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I don't have any cans of courage. If I have to wait on that, then I guess I won't get any info out of eltoro.

How may dudes are on the travel squad total, Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yikes, I don't think 26 defensive players is enough for a game like this one.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Episode II of "Is Sensi Crazy?" should be even better than episode I. I can't wait.

    ReplyDelete
  84. binoba, I don't do the wings, eltoro does. Hopefully he is back on the field by the Iron Bowl. We will see.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Twenty six guys on defense doesn't sound great, but it could be that Todd intends to amaze us all and play iron man football.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous10:28 AM

    thin

I hope it is, SteveFC. I really do.

I like being wrong when I pick against the grain.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Arkansas' top WR, Joe Adams, is not dressed out. He apparently was injured in practice Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Man, I love that big jumbotron thingie at Arkansas. Man, now I know I should be a college coach. Can you imagine grabbing some beer and popcorn and heading over to the stadium and cranking up the jumbotron to watch MNF or a movie?

    ReplyDelete
  89. I hate to say it but this issue with The Bull doesn't come as much as a surprise. For whatever reason the guys that come in from these prep schools and JC's never seem to be able to stay on the field. In all reality if these guys aren't graduating or qualifying out of high school the chances they can make it through college aren't very good. I would find it hard to believe El Toro is just not a morning person and pulled himself out of a game on his own if there isn't something else going on. Regardless, I want to see this guy back on the field living up to all that hype.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous10:31 AM

That's a big loss for the Hogs.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Chris Todd came from a JC.

Carlos Rogers came from a prep school.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Jay, while you are already out in Arkansas, you might want to swing through Iowa on your way back and visit some friends, especially if Michigan does well today.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Where did we get FAH from?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Anonymous10:33 AM

    Prep school Schmep school

If you are mature and work you can play. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Weis.. Kiss my Arse you fat slob.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wasn't Fairley a JUCO too?

    ReplyDelete
  97. digger a bit sensitive today?

    ReplyDelete
  98. If you quaterback for Notre Dame and win 3 games you are the greatess thing since peanutbutter and jam samiches. BS

    ReplyDelete
  99. Personally I like JUCOs. You don't want a lot of them, but they are good for filling immediate needs.

    ReplyDelete
  100. FC not really just have a belly full of ND and Weis

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous10:37 AM

    Steve,

That's a good point. I don't see us going after a bunch of those though. Chizik's plan seems to be long term - get recruits, redshirt, build depth.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Coach Chizik said that Isom will play today on the Auburn radio pregame show.

    ReplyDelete
  103. The only thing I see in Arkansas' favor is they need this game a lot more than we do. With their schedule, their season could soon go up in flames.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous10:39 AM

"That would not count as an excess."

    I LOL'd at that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Good plan by Chizik. I just hope auburn pulls out some serious $$$ for Malzahn and not lose him next couple of years.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Coach Chizik said that Isom did everything they asked him to do and is ready to play.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I predict a lot of pain for Arkansas receivers. Bates and Etheridge will bring the pain.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Coach Chizik was not asked about the bull's status.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Great news IV this should help us.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I liked the way Eddins played against UT, but this will be a different type of game. Good to see Isom back.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Players from all backgrounds both succeed and fail. It's about the person, not where they come from.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I am ready for some hog fixed anyway the Auburn Tigers decide to prepare it.

    ReplyDelete
  113. WOW Eltoro not there. I heard from a bammer during the week that he was having trouble with the staff and was considering leaving the team, I hope there is 0 truth in that

    ReplyDelete
  114. I skipped the bloody mary's this AM and went strait to the salty dogs. Woooohooooo!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. ehyou,

I agree with you on the character issue.

    ReplyDelete
  116. jhag, it really depends upon what is going on. If a player is discontent he either needs to get over it or hit the road.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Salty Dogs go good with Bar B Q Pork

    ReplyDelete
  118. Steve,

    I agree with you also.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anonymous10:45 AM

Rod uses tons of western movie references today.

    ReplyDelete
  120. mornin' JGT. let's go.

    DWWD!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I have a problem with "stars" that don't walk the walk. If you aren't playing well, you shut your mouth and open your ears.

    ReplyDelete
  122. 15 minutes to kickoff.

    Stadium is maybe 60% full.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'm probably a little less optimistic than you guys about these players making it through college. If you cannot qualify out of high school you are going to have a difficult time in college. If they weren't playing football they wouldn't be at the university anyway. There is obviously going to be a higher attrition rate from those who couldn't qualify in the first place. I'm sure there are plenty more, but since the time I've been a student here Raven Gray, Bo Harris, Greg Smith, and Chris Slaughter all come to mind. I haven't done much research, but I'm sure theres more.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anonymous10:48 AM

Drew Brees picks coming up next.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Lee Corso needs to hang up the mic....College Gameday is awful

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous10:49 AM

    Dang where are the hogs?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Have the Hog fans given up on the team already??

    ReplyDelete
  128. Many kids that go the JUCO route just need some growing up time. It doesn't take a genius to graduate high school with poor study habits. When you go to college, it is a different matter and self discipline comes into play. I should know. I really screwed up my first year of college. Of course, I had a great time, so I guess it is a matter of what goals you are attempting to achieve.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Didn't Corso have a stroke? The guy needs some time off.

    ReplyDelete
  130. IV out until halftime. Go TIGERS, beat the hogs. WAR EAGLE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  131. That's why I like early road games. The home crowd just ain't as into it.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Lets go Auburn!!!!!!!WDE

    ReplyDelete
  133. Nothing inspires a home team more than to see half the stadium empty in one of their more important games.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Can we get rid of these clowns and get on with the game.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Corso does seem a bit understated today. Perhaps he needs a trip to the rest room and doesn't want to risk an embarrassing accident.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Anonymous10:54 AM

    Drew Brees is the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  137. AU- 37
    Arky- 33

McFadden and Thorpe= good pass coverage
    Everyone else= questionable pass coverage

    Fear Toddzilla(shout-out to SFC)

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'm at the beach. Is there a way to listen to the game online? I would like to listen to the Auburn broadcast while I watch.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Anonymous10:55 AM

Wonder if Kirk will make it to the Iowa game with the snow going on?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Let's go Auburn. War Eagle!!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anonymous10:56 AM

Sounds like The Bull gets too high and too low.

    Go even Steven there pal!!!

    ReplyDelete
  142. yeah Corso had a stroke, aka....'a sign to spend time with your family'...but he is taking the Dick Clark approach

    ReplyDelete
  143. Looking at Jays picture more closely I'm amused by those high school bleachers that are sitting on top of that nice end zone area.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I like Thorpe in coverage too. Etheridage and Bates need to reach out and hit someone.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Yes, we avoid the Corse Curse!!!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Anonymous10:57 AM

    Brees picks Auburn
    Corso picks Arkansas
    Herbie picks Auburn
    Fowler picks Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  147. hogs' leading receiver not playing, joe adams, 2nd in sec in receiving, big loss.

    ReplyDelete
  148. We need to see Mallett scrambling. This won't be like the WV game. Make that kid scramble.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Is this 2008? We have the 5 wins, are we going to start a run for 7 loses?

    ReplyDelete
