You can lump me in with the "execution" brigade (sounds like a death panel) if you want, but I do think that accounts for part of the problems the last couple of weeks. I consider getting repeated penalties as part of execution (part of being dumb too). In the passing game, the plays are there to be made, we're just not (wait for it) executing.
Now if you want talk about why we're not executing (Todd's arm), that's another thing. That said, I don't think all of the problems for the offense lie with Todd's play. A good chunk of it, but not all of it.
thats nothing new the year we were ranked #1 in the pre-season the whole D got into a bar fight and they all got a ride in a police car back to their dorm. Well not all but 8 to 10 of them
I'm not saying execution is the only problem, but I don't think it's a laughable notion either. Why pass on first down if you can't make the play? I'd be happy not to get a penalty on first down and go from there.
LSU can and will stuff the run, but their pass rush has been weak to date. I say let RK call the first down pass plays that'll take us to victory.
Seriously...I think this is a pass first game. If we let their offense stay on the field, our D will wilt similar to the 2007 UGA game.
Remember when Gus first got to AU and he talked about that "vertical" passing game? Is it the QB arm or inability of WRs to get open that has stopped those playcalls. We surely haven't completed many deep passes that have been called and haven't even got very many open enough to throw deep.
Except that we don't have as many WR fundamentals problems, this is starting to sound like our 2006-2008 offensive passing problems.
Simers says stuff I wish I could say. I cover some people who think they're better than you and me based solely on their pay scale ... and they totally don't deserve what they get.
To call them out in print and have your paper stand behind you ... that's my dream.
Substance.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to dropping in for some Q&A on AU football, more on my knee injury, and how to play defense in the SEC with 25 players.
ReplyDeleteWell Sensi, can you have all 25 players on the field at the same time?
ReplyDeleteNot unless that suspended SEC crew is officiating.
ReplyDeleteokay, is the scoop Eric Smith or Harry Adams?
ReplyDeleteI just retro-posted about Harry Adams.
ReplyDeleteHe's a naughty boy.
Eric Smith's court date is Nov. 4, I believe.
ReplyDeletebad, bad, bad boy.
ReplyDeleteironman football - the future at AU
ReplyDeleteWell with ironman football there are no substitution infractions.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll just go to the wildcat exclusively.
ReplyDelete2 formations
12 plays
Strive for excellence.
I can see the TigerRags shirt now...
I hear as long as you execute the play properly, nobody should stop you. It's all execution these days.
ReplyDeleteIt's all ball bearings these days.
That's what that pedder Hanerhan says anyway.
ReplyDeleteMuch like Fletch, this team can't afford to have it's ranks garnisheed.
ReplyDeleteWell, there's always 2010.
ReplyDeleteFletch was G. Gordon Liddy when he dropped the ball bearings knowledge.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a fetzer valve anyway?

Never passing on 1st down isn't execution, that's coaching.
ReplyDeleteAt Auburn, we have many problems. However, at least we aren't UAT - we can be thankful for that.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe the execution of the coaching.
ReplyDeletewhat did eric smith do I am so behind
ReplyDeleteMy pick this week:
ReplyDeleteLSU 17
AU 10
Close game as always. Miles pulls a rabbit out of his hat at some point and it pays off on the scoreboard.
Beat up an AU student outside of a hotel after an altercation inside.
ReplyDeleteOh, and in front of the police.
Sensi,
ReplyDeleteI thought the hit we had put on your knee would convince you. I guess you do have another knee.
I see two more predictions where I'll give Auburn the edge this season.
ReplyDeletethats nothing new the year we were ranked #1 in the pre-season the whole D got into a bar fight and they all got a ride in a police car back to their dorm. Well not all but 8 to 10 of them

ReplyDeleteWe'd be undefeated if we hadn't ran Deron Furr off last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying it's much easier to defend the 1st down run, when you know it's coming.
ReplyDeletePlus after the first couple of scripted drives, we pretty much eliminate all the motion that screws with the D.
I am with you e-bro anything thats gets + yards I am good pass or run + yards
ReplyDeleteAt this point, can we hold LSU to under 24 for the game?
ReplyDeleteI have been on a desert island since Saturday!
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I am back.
It will take a month of Sindays to catch up on Au football.
I have not had time to read all the old posts since Saturday.
I will get to that later but until can somebody give me a Jet note version of the past few days???/
Ben Tate gets a lot of touches this week, I believe. Upwards of 30.
ReplyDeletewere did all of the motion go?
ReplyDeleteAlmost time!
ReplyDeleteWithout Harry Adams, LSU scores 75 this weekend.
ReplyDeleteCan';t see the bottom to comment
ReplyDeleteIt's that time of the week where I live blog the live blog!
ReplyDeleteJay G just said he is wearing spandex today.
ReplyDeleteJay G just said he could bench press Layla Kiffin approximately 13 times.
ReplyDeleteHow come my posts won't come through on the live chat? Is it really delayed?
ReplyDeleteplease cincy, I am live blogging.
ReplyDeleteAnd you submit a question, then jay puts it up. Thus the delay.
Jay G just said that getting Angelica Houston to wear zubaz pants has always been a goal of his.
ReplyDeleteJay just said his favorite writer of all time is Skip Bayless.
ReplyDeletecrap, i've been watching the CIL and forgot about the live-blogging of the live-blogging.
ReplyDeletenice work MJT!
Nurse Cincy: I have to "ok" the comments first. That's how we maintain order.
ReplyDeleteI post 99 out of 100 posts. Some are redundant or already have been discussed.
Michael is my favorite live blogger of a live blog.
ReplyDeleteWe need to get Harrison to live blog Michael's live blog of JGT's live blog.
ReplyDeleteHow'd the chat go?
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteGot it, thanks. First time doing this kind of q&a, was a little lost, but caught on eventually.
Sensi,
ReplyDeleteYou have mail
Thank you, Cincy. I appreciate the help today.

Well I am angry I missed that
ReplyDeleteHoopie, Todd tried a few deep balls against Kentucky. The receivers were open. The passes were thrown incredibly short.
ReplyDeleteTodd on the Manning watch list?!
ReplyDeleteI was going to let that soak in a minute before I posted it ... make sure it's not a fake.
ReplyDeleteWow Jay, just reading the comments from the Le Chat,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you like or respect T.J. Simmers or both,
but shocking.
My favorite Simmers is to only refer to former dodger, Andruw Jones as "Tubbo or Fatdruw Jones" is his articles, and never by his real name.
Oh wow, I missed the party. I guess that's what I get for having a job.
ReplyDeleteHA! As if I actually work at work.
Simers says stuff I wish I could say. I cover some people who think they're better than you and me based solely on their pay scale ... and they totally don't deserve what they get.
ReplyDeleteTo call them out in print and have your paper stand behind you ... that's my dream.

ReplyDeleteThanks Hoopie! I'll work on drawing that up today.
