Thursday night chatter

Hey everyone. I won't be able to make our usual Thursday Night Live session again (that's two in a row), so it's up to you to make it special.

Good game tonight: Cincinnati at South Florida. (USF fans pictured)

Please enjoy and be safe in these treacherous times.

  1. Two posts, two Scotts. Where are ya, Scottie B.?

  2. Here's the leader of the morning puppet hour in North Alabama....

Sorry for the poor quality of the photo. I took it with the only thing I had...my iPhone.

    Puppet Hour

  3. I bet THT's really really mad right now

    ReplyDelete
  4. Go Cinci. I've disliked USF for a little over 2 years now.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Two Scotts, a Bama faker and a fake Bammer...not exactly what I was hoping for. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. FSJ...
Puppets are scary to begin with. That one's got a little something extra.

    ReplyDelete
  7. ehyou it was weird..I wish I had been able to see what the sign on the dude's back said.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, PF, you didn't exactly take us out at 88 with a bang (or a "Beasley") on the last thread!

    ReplyDelete
  9. He's a crazy preacher dude. Sayw him in ATL this summer. Says I'm, headed for Hell.

    ReplyDelete
  10. the sign is a bible verse and some mumbo jumbo.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ooooohhh....Faker,

Is that a bammer hat on that puppet's head?????

    ReplyDelete
  12. It sorta looks like it missinit...

My Aubie sister pointed that out to me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sound like the puppet is on the southeast circuit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't care b/c I hate Notre Dame, but how much do y'all think Notre Dame fans hate Mark May on a scale of Pinochet to Hitler?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'd need to see the latest dictator top 25 rankings to give an accurate answer.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'll see what I can work up Scott.

    ReplyDelete
  17. whoa...Hitler was a puppet....that explains alot.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The puppet guy was here in Flo-town not long ago. The only part of teh sign I could read said someting about Ronald Reagan being teh "1st Anti-Christ".

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here's a Top 10 from 2007, but I think it's mostly based on how many people they were estimated to have had killed. It could be that Mark May is only at Dear Leader level.

    1. Josip Broz Tito of SFR Yugoslavia
    2. Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union
    3. Adolf Hitler of Germany
    4. Pol Pot of Cambodia
    5. Ante Pavelic of Hitler`s Croatia
    6. Idi Amin of Uganda
    7. Pinochet of Chile
    8. Benito Mussolini of Italy
    9. Jean-Bedel Bokassa of Central African Republic
10.Kim Il Sung of North Korea

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey Hotties.

Why the heck would anyone allow an U2 concert on the field in football season?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm off to listen to Tiger Talk on the way to pick up my daughter from gymnastics. Have a good night everybody! WDE!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Surprised to see Tito at the top. Not sure he even cracks my top 10. Don't know much about Bokassa.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Eddie - 1 reason: money

    ReplyDelete
  24. Regular rules don't apply to U2.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why all the talk of Cinci as a BCS Buster? Aren't they in the Big East? Technically a BCS conference.

    ReplyDelete
  26. USF QB looks like he has a strong arm, but I'm not sure he has any velocity other than high.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Time to watch Delta State @ UNA.

Oh look at that... 35 seconds in and it's 7-0 UNA

    ReplyDelete
  28. Okay, I'm not gone just yet. Maybe people are calling Cincy a BCS buster, as in the BCS Championship Game, not just a BCS bowl (they were in the Orange Bowl last year).

    ReplyDelete
  29. But even so, if a team from a BCS league is in the Title game how is that busted?

Unless, of course the entire system is busted...

    ReplyDelete
  30. True. I guess just from the standpoint that if UC gets in, most people will think there is a better team getting left out. Btw, that QB from USF looks pretty good so far. I thought they would fold once Grothe went down.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So the puppet spoke ill of Reagan?

That'll buy him a one-way ticket on the hell train.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Big East needs to be demoted, or maybe the Big 10....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous7:17 PM

    Big Least

    Big 10(11) slow schools

    ReplyDelete
  34. ...or maybe the ACC.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've said this before, but I think USF has a chance to become a top 10 program in the coming years, the same way Miami and FSU came out of nowhere in the 1970s and 1980s. Great location, big university, and they could come to dominate the Big East in the coming years.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous7:18 PM

    Agree E Bro

Levitt has done a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'll say this....Saban is on a roll tonight on his radio show.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous7:19 PM

    What's he saying, FSJ?

    ReplyDelete
  39. "They are a defense that wants to get off the field on third down." -- Craig James, helping us out with the obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rambo plays for Delta State. Xavier, not John J.

    ReplyDelete
  41. FSJ- Is he on fire? Stop, Drop & Roll?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Interesting Bearcat stat. In its last two games, Cincinnati's opponents have possessed the ball for at least 40 minutes and still won. Have they already said that on the coverage?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous7:21 PM

UNA has more rush yards than pass yards at this moment. A rarity for a Terry Bowden team.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I mean, the opponents have stil lost, not won.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sensi...

He's on a roll about the crowd affecting the game and stuff like that.

Not quite like he got before the Miss. State game last year but it was getting pretty close. The host said you seem wound up tonight..He said I'm just ready to roll.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous7:22 PM

Jesse Palmer is too busy combing his hair to bring that kind of substance.

    ReplyDelete
  47. And this classic by Chris Fowler ... "Cincinnati rushes three, drops nine into coverage."

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Bigeast race is compelling, 4 good teams fighting it out for the championship: West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Cincy & USF.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous7:23 PM

    FSJ,

I wouldn't think he'd have to fire up the Bama faithful. I mean, you guys are the number 2 team and all. Just find that interesting. Maybe he just needs a hug.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Faker, maybe he doesn't like he doesn't like being oh-for-Spurrier.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous7:24 PM

    Tony Pike - Heisman candidate?

    Yeah, right.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nick Saban is on edge about his fans like Lou Dobbs is about immigrants.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Fowler just said "B.S."

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous7:28 PM

    WAR DAMN EAGLE I SAY!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just wait till Bama loses one, then he will be all over the fans. He will breakout his Ricky Rant.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Cincy may be there, but they left their playbooks at the hotel tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous7:31 PM

I want to hear Ricky's Rant if they do lose one. Woo Hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hopefully ya'll won't get to hear that.. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  59. PF - I was enjoying MrsTHT's cooking way too much to be mad.

How did USF come up with Bulls as a mascot?

    ReplyDelete
  62. The first 90 seconds of this week's AFIP is killer.

    ReplyDelete
  63. USF #3 looks faster than our FAH.

    ReplyDelete
  64. FSJ- After the last game would be best. You know we are winning out, beating Florida and losing to Ohio State in the BCS Championship game.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Bad pass. Bad, bad pass.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think USF should stick to the run

    ReplyDelete
  67. Did you see that interception and return! Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Florida don't want none. Fear the three Tebow/Meyer.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bartender..i'll have whatever Eddie is having.. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  70. How bad is Florida State this year? Oh and to top it off, Bobby says he wants to coach next year. Way to take a program back to where you got it. He needs to go badly. Glad i'm not an FSU fan.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Interesting stat being bandied about Meyer this week. He's only 7-6 against the SEC West (he's only lost 9 times period at Florida). Any more proof needed as to which division is the best?

That said, it's not really a Meyer-centric stat. Going back to Spurrier, Florida has historically struggled much more against Western Division teams (struggle being a relative term) than against the East (can you say Vandy, Kentucky and South Carolina).

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous7:39 PM

    Thank you, THT.

Have you ever read the story of the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Scott Coats, you have a brother , D?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous7:44 PM

    Eddie,

If I were an FSU fan, I'd cut myself.

    ReplyDelete
  75. and if so, S Coats, did said brother D get beat up on the front steps of church when he was about 12?

    ReplyDelete
  76. No coach has the right to wreck a program.

    It's a privilege. Remember that.

    ReplyDelete
  77. At least Bryant was only three years removed from a national championship when he retired.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Well, getting fired is a Bowden tradition that his sons started, so I think he just wants to live up to tradition.

    ReplyDelete
  79. at least the Banana Slug is native to North America, unlike the bearcat.

    ReplyDelete
  80. "The Pacific banana slug is the second-largest species of terrestrial slug in the world, growing up to 25 centimetres (9.8 in) long"

    That's just gross!

    ReplyDelete
  81. FSJ, you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on the Bryant (for obvious reasons), I know he passed away not long after coaching his last game. Was he already sick or was his death sudden?

    Sensi's a Bammer, maybe he'll know.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Anonymous7:50 PM

Leave it to tree-hugging hippies to pick the coolest mascot.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous7:51 PM

I forgot the last time I was peeing on that piece to grass to look at the dates, E Bro.

    ReplyDelete
  84. He was very sick. He had a stroke during the 1980 fall camp and kept it quiet and was on the field for the season.

From what I have read his doctors tried to get him to retire sooner but he wouldn't for whatever reason.

    ReplyDelete
  85. At least Dye knew when to retire....

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous7:53 PM

    Raise your glasses to Dye

    ReplyDelete
  87. Gruden has really showed some personality since leaving the NFL. I like the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thanks Faker, I figured it wasn't a coincidence that he died so soon after coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  89. well, I'll never be able to say I have a banana slug in my....

err, maybe I shouldn't finish that.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  91. In case you've forgotten (or like JGT, were too young to remember), St. Bobby took the FSU job just barely ahead of the tar-and-feathers mob at WVU. He was NOT popular during his tenure there, especially after a particularly disastrous 4-7 season in '74.

I've always thought that Bryant handled his retirement better than any big-name HC. He knew he was done, even though he said all along that "if I wasn't coaching, I'd probably croak".

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous7:59 PM

    Nice throw

    ReplyDelete
  93. I just turned to watch North Alabama and Delta State.

Wow, Bowden needs to push back from the table. Either that or it's true what they say about the camera.......wow!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Anonymous7:59 PM

And just think, Bowden was almost the head man at the Capstone.

That would be your problem now, FSJ.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tom Osborne went out on top.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Freep- Osborne at Nebraska did it the right way as well.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The only thing Bryant didn't handle well was choosing his successor. He didn't have the influence he should have had. Joab Thomas took care of that.

I suspect Stallings would have been the choice had it been up to Bryant.

Ironically a poster on Tiderinsider that played for Bryant (Bill Rice I think) swears up and down that had Dooley taken the Auburn job that Dye would have replaced Bryant.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Damn Bro, beat me to the punch there.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Bowden definitely is the shortest 350 pound guy I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Which one Peter, Terry?

    ReplyDelete
  101. The one at UNA...wait, the short one at UNA. I think he used to be at Auburn and has a reputation of impregnating young girls. I can't remember anything about him now that he's been taken off the stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  102. missinit, who is carrying that game?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Faker, many times Dye has related the story where he called Bryant up from Wyoming to ask him if he should quit to go after the AU gig. Bryant tried to persuade him to stay at Wyoming and not go to AU.

It's my opinion that Bryant was hoping Dye would hold out for a shot at the Bama job.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm in Georgia. We have it on Comcast ...,CSS.... whatever that is

    ReplyDelete
  105. Anonymous8:10 PM

    What's the score missinit?

The roarlions.com stat page is not working.

    ReplyDelete
  106. CSS=Comcast Sports Southeast, I think

    ReplyDelete
  107. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  108. 24-14 Delta State , 2nd QTR, 7:35 left

North Alabama fumbled on about the 4 or 5 yard line a few minutes ago.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anonymous8:14 PM

    Thanks, miss.

    Ouch.

Delta always gives UNA a hard time.

UNA is my alma mater. C'mon LIONS!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I just saw the picture of Terry Bowden. He is now 2x's the man he was at Auburn....literally.

    ReplyDelete

  112. Eddie,

I think he's the same size, he's just been compacted more.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Anonymous8:21 PM

Read this about FSU's student-athletes and explain to me how the compliance people there still have jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I hate it when I sign in with the wrong freaking account.

    ReplyDelete
  115. RK- He's auditioning for Ghost Busters 3....another sequel I'll go watch.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Anonymous8:23 PM

    Banana slugs are very cool.

But naming a team after them is just gross.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Sensi, don't forget. This use to be Free Shoes University.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Has Aubrey Phillips left the team, or is he still just dealing with some unknown medical issue?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Still a good story FSJ.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Steve- Medical issues for the most part.

    ReplyDelete
  121. He never go a waiver from the NCAA either, or at least I never heard of it.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Erin Andrews...caling out Pike's toughness.

    ReplyDelete
  123. North Alabama scored........

Delta State 24 North Alabama 21

    4:17 left in 2nd qtr

Man, Terry is quite rotund! Looks like a heart attack waiting to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I thought Aubrey was off the team.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I hate it we never got to see a Coach Dye-Erin Andrews halftime interview. That would have been must-see TV.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous8:33 PM

Erin Andrews - even more useless on the sidelines now.

My wife turns to me after that with the UC coach and says, "Is she stupid or just doesn't know how to ask questions?"

    I laughed.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Could you imagine some of these sideline reporters trying to ask Dye, Bryant, or Stallings some of the crap they ask today?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Just don't put Erin Andrews with Joe Namath.

Andrews doesn't bother me as a sideline reporter.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Poor Suzy Kolber....

    ReplyDelete
  130. who's going to see Sherlock Holmes this winter?

    ReplyDelete
  131. FSJ, no way the old-school coaches would put up with the foolishness.

The sad thing is EA considers herself a "serious" reporter.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Looks good bro. I'll probably check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Go find the 1982 Iron Bowl. There was a female sideline reporter, who interviewed Bryant. It wasn't pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  134. FSJ - love the picture. A bammer puppet... I knew it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. micheale....

I was on the phone with the mrs...and was like "I think there is a dude over there with a puppet."

She was like "you have to take a picture of that.."

Very strange thing to see first thing in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  136. That puppet was wearing a Meeshigan hat this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  137. USF is a tad thugalicious.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Anonymous8:56 PM

    long day for me

    catch the Hotties tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  139. USF QB looks promising, but still needs a bit of polish.

    ReplyDelete
  140. From Goldberg: There was much written about freshman wide receivers DeAngelo Benton and Emory Blake in August. They've barely played in September and October.

"Some of them got nicked up, hamstrings and things of that nature, but you're going to see them more,'' Chizik said.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Any of yall familiar with Kige Ramsey?

    ReplyDelete
  142. I need a good place to park for Saturdays game

    ReplyDelete
  143. Also..."We've got to sign back-to-back full classes -- we're down so far on scholarship numbers right now,'' Chizik said on the weekly Tiger Talk radio ,"We're going to have to make sure we're bringing in the right guys so there is not a lot of attrition. The attrition is the big deal, so we have to sign 25 every year and keep as many of them as we can around. You've got to get the right guy. It's not always the best guy, because if the best guy is not the right guy you may have them only a year. It's definitely doing your homework to seek the best guy who is also the right guy."

wtc alluded to this earlier today.

    ReplyDelete
  144. That play is the reason why I'm still pissed we lost to South Florida.

    No discipline. Whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Storm, depending on which way you travel to Auburn, I like parking at the Auburn Baptist Church next to Cheeburger, Cheeburger, or the old bank right next to that lot. Both charge $20 but it is easy in and out to Hwy 280, especially after a win and College Street is closed for the rolling of Toomers.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Groethe is a Heisman quality QB. I don't know about Daniels, although he has looked pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  147. That ain't gonna work.

    ReplyDelete
  148. If I'm looking for a decently quick exit out of town, I park on Donahue facing College, as close to the corner as possible. It's not the closest spot, but my exits have been lightning fast.

If I'm hanging around, I park at the fraternity house where I was once a resident. It pisses me off, though, cause those moneyhungry bastards always try and make me pay.

    ReplyDelete
  149. jhag,

I think he is some YouTube dude. I saw a video on him last hear. I think he's from Kentucky and one brick shy!

    ReplyDelete
  150. USF is making their 2nd string QB look good. Aren't we playing KY's 2nd string? At least we've had a week to prepare.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Does anyone know the score of the UNA game?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Kathy,

    It's still DS 24 UNA 21 with 1:14 left in 3rd qtr

DS has ball on UNA 45 yd line

    ReplyDelete
  153. Thanks, missinit. I was hoping you were still around.

    ReplyDelete
  154. HOTTIE HOTTIES representin' tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Conduscious say: You TOO SLOOOOOoW, Big Snacks!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Thanks to you too Big Snacks!

I live in Madison/Hsv area, and my cable carrier isn't showing UNA.

    ReplyDelete
  157. sorry, i'm late Scott Choco. my bad homes. (responding to post #2)

    ReplyDelete
  158. I'm way far away from Huntsville; and comcast is showing it here...

    ReplyDelete
  159. That #10 for USF has really hurt them tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  160. OK, why do you take off your helmet? You know what's gonna happen. You know.

    ReplyDelete
  161. North Ally scores 28 DS 24

  163. Want that access the penalty from the 1?

    ReplyDelete
  164. HABOTNing on the woman's Palm Pre, and the HABOTN is very nice. Exactly the same as on the computer. Mobile phone Hotties, getcha one.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Kathy ...

    I'm in love.

    ReplyDelete
  166. #10 makes a tackle!

    ReplyDelete
  167. How about that, 2 in a row! Looked like a PI to me.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Jet, did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  169. That's what you do coach, scream at your backup QB that's already under fire!

    ReplyDelete
  170. A woman who knows the point from which a penalty is enforced ... wow ... what a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Holy crap, it does that super quick refresh and scroll to the part of the page you were on like Google Chrome does. I wish I had kept this for myself and given her flowers for the anniversary thing.

    ReplyDelete
  172. :-)

Thanks Jet. I know my football!

    ReplyDelete
  173. Big Snacks, get you one!

    ReplyDelete
  174. There's my buddy #10. That was just a pay back call from the missed one on the last play.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Wow, UNA pulling ahead now. Is it in the 4th?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Weird, I just got an email from former Auburn punter Richie Nell who apparently reads the blog and was looking back at THT's countdown from the preseason and saw where I mentioned him under honorable mentions for #1.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yeah Kathy,

They missed extra point, now 34/24 4th qtr, 10 minutes left

    ReplyDelete
  178. I went to band practice with UNA down 24-21 halfway through the 2nd qtr. Came home with 12:00 left in the game it was still 24-21. I watched for 5 minutes and now its 34-24 UNA. I'm glad they waited on me.

    ReplyDelete
  179. So, was this staged?

"Balloon Boy" Falcon Henne Admits: "We Did This For The Show"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI6UONWCq7A&feature=player_embedded#

    ReplyDelete
  180. RK's:he's a quick reponder. That was only over a month ago....kinda neat. What'd he say?

    ReplyDelete
  181. He was giving me grief for only naming him an honorable mention then made a comment about how he "thought it was interesting how people remember us insignificants."

I made sure to let him know that he was out there wearing the orange & blue and that meant so there was no way he was insignificant.

Funny thing is, he was there during a time one of my good friends brothers was a deep snapper, so I should have asked him if he remembered him.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Who did Terry Bowden eat? He is HUGE!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Well it's time for me to hit the bed, but we've got to flip this page before I go.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Somebody push this thing to 200

    ReplyDelete
  185. I'm up to the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  186. When I say huge...I mean fat. He's still almost comically short.

    ReplyDelete
