Etheridge is out for the year

Coach Gene Chizik said Zac Etheridge, who was knocked out of Saturday's game with a neck injury, won't play again this season.

``I think everybody is very hopeful for a full recovery as a person," Chizik said. ``In talking with our people, (playing again) is the hope."

Etheridge's Facebook page has been updated to include a picture of him lying a hospital bed wearing an invasive neck brace. It is not a halo-type device. He is smiling.

I'll update with more information as it becomes available.

  3. I'm not concerned with whether he plays again... I just hope he is ok and is able to make a full and speedy recovery.
If he sees the field at any point, then that's just icing on the cake.

I posted this on the last thread.

    Did anyone see this?

    Spikes is cheap

  5. No surprise. But all the best to Zaccheus.

  6. Any word on exactly what the injury is?

  7. That sucks for Etheridge. I hope he regains full health and if football is again part of the plan, so be it.

  8. It seemed as though the defense was playing in his honor....maybe this will inspire them to finish the season out for him

  9. AU1- That's pretty low. Spikes should sit a game for that. Meyer doesn't have the guts to do it, wait and see.

  10. Hope Zac makes a full recovery. That's is the important thing.

Meyer's answer to the BS play: “I’ll talk to him today, Meyer said. “He’s a very emotional player. If that’s the case, I’ll have a very serious talk with him.”

  11. wow. good luck #4. hope for a speedy recovery.

  12. Meyer runs one of the most undisciplined teams in the country. One day it will catch up with him. It is finally cathing up with Richt who has done the same IMO.

  13. Did anyone else her they transferred ZE to UAB?

And did Eltoro break a finger yesterday?

  14. Scottie- I think you should dedicate your name to Etheridge for the remainder of the season. I think you should go as "Scottie Etheridge" with an Etheridge pic as your avatar :)!

  15. CFN Bowl Predictions have Auburn in the Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma. I would not like that. I'm personally hoping for Chick-Fil-A bowl for an easy drive to the dome.

  16. Zac has updated his facebook page with a photo of him laying in the hospital bed with his neck in a brace...

  17. Also read:

Spikes may have been committing a little Old Testament-style retaliation Saturday. Earlier in the game, a Georgia player went under Spikes’ facemask, ripping off Spikes’ helmet in the process. After the play, Spikes clutched the area around his eyes in pain.

This could be a turning point for this team. Something that will really bring them together.

  20. I hate to hear Zac won't be able to play this year but that is not what is important. I pray that he has a full recovery and will have a long and healthful life.
We as fans appreciate all of his hard work and effort and just wish him the very best.

  21. Scottie B... yes, it was good to meet you yesterday.

  22. Kathy- If that's the case, then the Georgia player should also sit for a game. Just because it happened to Spikes doesn't make it right for him to do the same. Spikes is caught red handed and until the other video surfaces, it's all hear say. It's sad that this still happens, but it does.

  23. Great game. Good win over a talented team.

    Defense was the key, imo.

I am truly sorry to hear about Zac Etheridge.

    Spikes is a thug.

  24. I believe Etheridge is in Birmingham.

    I cannot confirm that 100%.

  25. Since he has a neck brace on, does he have a sprain. With a break, don't they usually put them in a halo? Hopefully it is just a sprain. Still, very grateful, to Scott (the runningback) who laid their until someone came to check on Etheridge. If he had moved him off of him, the injury could have been worse.

  26. After looking at his facebook picture, that's a heavy duty brace he is wearing. God-speed to the young man.

  27. Quick and smart thinking by a young man who has his head on straight.

  28. Rivals- They are reporting Etheridge in Bham. Was moved their last night. Had to me more serious than most thought obviously.

  29. I think it's a deal like Marcus White (2000 season, I think?) ... he'll probably be OK, but doctors will advise that he not play again.

    ReplyDelete
  30. White ended up playing again at Murray State.

  31. I agree about their running back, Kathy. That was a long time for him to lay there like that. Hope Etheridge recovers well.

  32. Where are all those Favre haters from at the beginning of the year saying he was washed up? huh? show your face!

ZE out for the year? Wow. the injury must have been worse than we had thought at first. Our prayers are with him.

  34. That's a heavy duty brace Zac's got on. Hope he has a full recovery. I'm also praying for his parents. I can't imagine looking out on the field and seeing your child hurt and not being able to do anything about it.
UF player is a thug. I hope the other film comes out too if the UGA player does the same. As a teacher, I always tell my kids it's the retaliation hit that gets caught. Seems like that might have happened here.

  35. yaaa everybody lets boo a hall of fame legend that holds every single record possible for a qb, and he is 40 and sculpting our defense up, idiots

  36. I know AC has to be feeling bad too. It was just an accident, two players going in for the tackle.

Spikes intentionally poking that guy's eyes, now that is senseless and warrants a suspension.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Very sad. I really like Etheridge as a player and was very concerned when I saw that hit.

  38. Hope the young man fully recovers and makes All SEC next year.
