Gene Chizik speaks ... briefly

Hey everyone. Here's what Gene Chizik had to say today:

  • On getting some time off last week: ``You hope that just mentally as well as physically, you hope it was enough to escape the craziness around here."

  • On Auburn not being in school this week: ``It's somewhat of an advantage. They can spend some of their own free time voluntarily coming in. If they want to come in and do a lot extra -- and a lot of them already have done that -- we'll do that."

  • On if he'll encourage extra work: ``I'm not a guy who likes to vary off the things we've done. We're to a point in the year where there's nothing new we can do. We'll do what we do and won't deviate from that."

  • On Alabama's defense: ``They're very talented. That's where you have to start in this league. They're very disciplined. They're two deep. They've got the defense running exactly the way you'd want it run."

  • On Alabama DT Terrence Cody: ``He's a very physical player. He's really good at what he does. He can control the middle of their defense. It'll take two people to block him. He brings a lot to the table when you're talking about defending tackle to tackle."

  • On Eltoro Freeman: ``He's made some good gains this weekend. Hopefully he had made some headway. Will it be enough? I don't know."

  • He was asked about Ingram: ``There's a lot of depth. The execution of the running game sets up a lot of things on the perimeter or down the field. That's where they're tacking on some big plays. They're going to come in here and run the ball. Nothing is going to change."

  • On the tenor of this rivalry: ``There's a huge amount of respect on both sides of the field for everybody involved. This is, in my opinion, if not the … it's one of the top couple rivalries in college football and it's because the fans make it that way. When you get on the field, that's where it gets physical. It's one of those games where the toughest, roughest and most physical team usually wins the game. "

  • On how Auburn can get to that level: ``Your chances of winning a huge rivalry game is in proportion to how you prepare for it. That's what our goal is -- to do everything we can to prepare for it."

  • On his memories form the 2004 game: ``I just remember that it was one of those physical games. It was a hard-hitting, field-position game. It was close. It didn't matter at the time how many they had won or lost -- they were going to fight."

  5. Hello, hotties! Well I redeemed myself a bit on the pick 'em after last week's horrific showing. I got 14 right this week! I tried a new strategy and just picked - not so much thinking this time :)

Looking forward to a week of hate. I love Auburn football.

How is the eye? Any improvement?

  7. Cincy - thanks for asking. The vision has cleared somewhat and I can now see colors and distinguish shapes but other than that it's pretty useless to me. I'll see the doc again Tuesday morning and he's been saying that everything is progressing well. Apparently, I won't be able to really get any use out of it until around January when I'll have to get a contact or glasses in order for it to be worth anything to me. It's looking like a long period of recovery before I return to where I was, but if that's my biggest complaint in life then things aren't so bad.

I can assure you all that it has absolutely ZERO impact on my well known feelings for UAT.

    Keep Hate Alive.

  8. When it comes to UAT, I am a hate monger. WAR EAGLE!!!!! Keep hate alive and fresh.

  9. easyedwin - I'll let you claim first post, but not first in HATE!!!

More than half a century of MAXIMUM HATE for UA-T here.

    Hi Hotties!

  10. JayGT - if you want to get your poll right ;-)
you need to put TCU at 1 and drop your current 1,2,3 one notch each. Then you need to put Iowa where tOSU is and tOSU where PSU is and PSU where Iowa is. Speaking of which, emails still coming from the corny people?

  11. None of y'all can top my HATE this week.

So try as hard as you can...It can't be done.

I hate the War Eagle Supper Club. I hate Momma G's.

    I hate Guthries....I hate Byron's Smokehouse..

Toomer's tree should be taken down with a crimson chainsaw...

The RTJ golf course should be set on fire.

Samford Hall should be condemned along with the current basketball facility.

Jordan Hare Stadium should be torn down...

The swimming team should be forced to swim in a local lake.

The baseball team should be forced to keep the previous coach..

    Did I miss anything?

  15. And because Auburn men and women believe in the things that FSJ hates, I believe in Auburn and love it.

But I do hate Bama. Boy, I do hate them...with a passion.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not even close FSJ. I hate the existence of matter that forms the alphabet which is used to create words or anything Bama related. Oh yeah, and houndstooth is ugly in any form for any reason.

  17. No emails from Iowa today.

I guess they only message when they're at work. I'm amazed at how many completely inappropriate messages arrive from work addresses.

I had a guy from Iowa, the school, tell me the world would be a better place if I jumped off the side of a building.

That's probably going a little far from a work email.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jeez. Get a life. Seriously.

  19. U seem alright FSJ and I know good football when I see it. I do like playin dirty dozens hate edition though.

  23. Any truth to the rumor that Chizik was saying "gitchie gitchie goo" when playing with the chin of that player in the photo of this blog?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am pretty impressed that after reviewing film, Chizik has determined that Terrence Cody is a physical football player. I am righting that down as a point to remember when watching the game.

  27. Just saw where Showtime is coming out with a series about Vampires, but I doubt it is a copy of True Blood. You see these are Mormon vampires with 3 wives who are members of the mafia, so you see it is completely different.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hold on easy...

    You hate the Cypress Inn?

    Northport Diner?

    The Globe?

    That's just wrong.

You left off City Cafe and 15th Street Diner..

    What about Dreamland and Archibald's?

  30. Edwin,

I don't know what most of that stuff is because I spent a total of a couple of hours in Tuscalooser before I realized it sucked (Engineering Day '98- well, the giant still was pretty cool and would make some killer moonshine, but they weren't using it right) and I'd never go back.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Been there for many IBs. I paid to get in the bryant museum to use the restroom. Then passed my ticket on to another Auburn fan so they could get in to use the restroom also. It became a steady stream (no pun intended) of AUBURN fans at the museum.

easy ...you know too much about TTown. You need to spend more time in God's country.

So FSJ ...I'm thinkin' you may be a closet Barner.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hoop, that thought has crossed my mind also

    ReplyDelete
  34. Now that is wrong on so many levels.

My blood pressure rises any time I get near Auburn.

  35. Anonymous8:30 PM

It's obvious from the amount of time he spends here that FSJ wants to turn from the dark side. His statement of hate was obviously a statement of yearning for the light of Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  36. We will have to ask coach Chizik what FSJ has to do to become an AUBURN man

    ReplyDelete
  37. Go three rounds with Eric Smith maybe

    ReplyDelete
  38. Easy...I've been 12 rounds with Aubies before..

    Eric don't scare me.. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  39. Auburn hanging in against NC State with 12 minutes to play...for now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ho dare Chizik not say this is clearly the best and most important rivalry in the history of sports? Come on man, you said Ball State did a lot of good things on defense leading up to that game, can't you at least say something the fans of your school actually believe?

    ReplyDelete
  41. FSJ ...

You sound like my Wal-Mart Alumni relatives from Gadsden/Rainbow City ... of course, when UAT loses, it's never their fault. I accuse my kinfolk from being from Etowaaaaaahhhh County they whine so much.

The next class they sign up for in West Vance will be their first.

We may lose, or we may win, but I'm hatin' all week long with every strand of DNA in my body.

I am so sick of the condescending crap I hear all over town. It's on.

    Sin leaves a crimson stain.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Repent you sins and be free, FSJ. See the light. Turn away from your worship of he that must not be named.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have been to slutwhiler..

    ReplyDelete
  58. JGT - have you been tempted to put a fake article on the MA web site about sports writer dying or being paralyzed after jumping from a tall building as a result of email abuse from Iowa fans? And then have said article somehow get discovered by Iowa press and reprinted there? Maybe the article could include a certain email transcript?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tutwiler = Skank Vegas

  60. FSJ - with all due respect, which I'm not sure any is due this week, you don't even know how to begin to hate. I hate UA-T more than I love AU. And that's a whole lotta hate.

  65. UA will win this week. Last year, my entire consciousness was spent on hating AU. this year, not so much.

I still want to win with a passion; but, last year it was borderline dangerous obsession.

Had to be the six game thingy.

Glad we are back on the winning side of that.

  66. Long may it not last.

  67. Rational chatter between Auburn and Alabama fans: It can happen.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It can only happen on HABOTN Jay...

Seems to be the only place I see rational chatter.

I am going to take the week off from Finebaum I think.
