Eric Smith is out

Hey everyone. Eric Smith, the Tigers' utility back, will miss the Outback Bowl because of academic issues. He will not practice.

Gene Chizik said he expects Smith to return in January.

  1. A lot of good substance today.

  2. Sorry for the pre-announcement Jay.

  3. Smith being out, to me, seems to be more significant than Isom. Smith was becoming a go to guy. Hopefully someone like Eddins will be able to fill in for Isom. I am not liking the trend here. I was hoping we would be in good shape for the bowl game.

  4. Almost time for Mad Money. Are there any other members of Cramerica out there?

  5. Smith isn't a freshman. He knows he has to keep those grades up.

So we are 3 short for the bowl game and practice. No Smith. No Rollison. No Hawthorne ever again (wish him well), and maybe no Isom.

    What a week for recruiting.

Been really busy at work, but I'm trying to stay up with the news.

    Thanks JG for the tweets.

  6. Gene, uh, failed to address the Isom situation.

  7. Rollison wouldn't have played in the bowl game anyway. He still has a redshirt, if I am not mistaken. Caudle will be the number 2 anyways. I imagine Kodi is the emergency QB.

I do think loosing Hawthorne hurts, but not nearly as bad as it might have a year or two ago.

The loss of Isom is significant because you get into continuity of the offensive line.

With Smith, he has become a real play maker, especially with some key catches. That one is very disappointing.

  8. Eric Smith = Tray Blackmon?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jay, I assume that means he is day-by-day:)

  10. Geeze, I hope not RK. Blackmon was the greatest player we have had that was only great in 2 or 3 games. He is one of those what if players.

  11. whattup hotties. i'm safe in lower alabama with the family. the recruiting update is nice. stinks to hear about Smith & Isom, though.

thanks for all the updates JG. happy holidays.

  12. Smith and Blackmon both had off the field and classroom issues that have been distractions and kept them off the field.

  13. I used to like watch Mad Mone...Then I watched Cramer get detroyed by Jon Stewart. I lost all repect for him for a) being dominated, dropping his head, and taking it, and b)being part of what Jon Stewart was talking about in the first place. He, and his network, have very little credibility after that piece.

  14. PF-I agree with you on that. I watched him some but his track record from the show is not good at all. He did well as a hedge fund guy, but not at what he is doing now.

  15. Apparently, the "§" stands for "§coop".

  16. Kramer is just another screaming maniac. Cramer, too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Now, if Kramer hosted MAD MONEY it might be worth watching.

  18. I see where Dameyune Craig was hired by FSu to day to coach either QB's or WRs.

  19. ummm, I read it was WBs or WRS

  20. I really hate losing Eric for the bowl game he contributed alot this season. Isom will hurt us some but maybe not that much.

  21. SCHEDULE UPDATE

I am going to add some practice notes shortly. I'm also planning a video, though it may not debut until tomorrow.

It will be here for you later, too.

I think I'm going to skip Saturday's practice.

  22. driving home from bammerham today you would think AU is falling to pieces from listening to the radio. bammer has had a great season and they have gotten the bounces you need to win the close games every time this year that lead to championship seasons.

if we are gonna start kicking their arses regularly again, we may as well put the battle axe in their skull while they are on top of the world.

if the qb situation is resolved, AU may be the most improved team in 2010 with the possible incoming class of player these guys are pulling together.

  23. I can't really say I like Crammer, after all, there are only so many Bouyas I can take, but I like hearing his slant on things. I usually have CNBC on all day long.

  24. Former NFL player wishes he never played football. Interesting. It is a reminder of what these kids go through.

  25. SFC,
That was a very sad article.

  26. Go Wildcats? Great run. I can't figure out who I want to win.

I would never watch Cramer when there's college football. Ok, I'd never watch Cramer, period. I don't like people screaming.

  27. The 60 mile drive home from Greensboro on snow-covered interstate was a doozie. I bet I saw at least 50 wrecked cars. Fortunately, all the multicar pile-ups were in the westbound lanes. Dodging all the slow people wore me out, though ;-)

  28. holy growth hormone!

Montana's Offensive Linemen are all 6'7" or 6'8", except for the center, who is a vertically challenged 6'2". I wonder if they have any basketball eligibility. Lebo should give them a call.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Driving on snow is always nerve racking Especially in the south where 80% of the drivers panic and hit their brakes and go sideways and block the road.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 6'7''/6'8''? How tall is their QB? Does he ever even see his receivers?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I do okay in the snow. I don't like it, but I do better than most of the road. Knowing how to steer out of a slide is vital....black ice is another issue. I spun my SUV 3 times to the right, then 4 times to the left (wheel caught in the grass and changed my direction) coming down a mountail once. I thought I was dead and took my hands off the wheel after the car turned off rolling backwards during spin 5. Somehow, I ended up facing my original direction in my original lane. It was awesome to now fall off the ledge and die.

  32. sees them well enough for ~20 yard TD strike in 1st quarter.

rain and 40 degrees in the Noog

  33. no one can drive on ice.

I drive very well on snow. But I have AWD and traction control, plus I practice every chance I get doing doughnuts in snow covered parking lots or empty cul de sacs. There were a lot of people on the interstate who obviously had no business being out there.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ..like the stretch limo driver going 30 mph... and the little 2wd cars that weigh less than I do after a pint of barbecue.

    ReplyDelete
  35. When there's a lot of people on the road, I usually hope for harder snow. People pull over when visibility lessens and I have great eyes, so I can just drive....

snow covered parking lots are fun...until you make the mistake of letting your friend take a turn, then have him completely ignore your directions, jump a median and land the front axle on a boulder. then the fun stops. thank G-d for locals with tow chains.

  36. PF - you have a vivid imagination. At least I sure hope that was your imagination.

Nova throws INT in end zone, now Grizzlies have driven to 1st & goal

  37. TD

<7 minutes to go in half

    ReplyDelete
  38. I wish it had been my imagination, too. I has horrified. Luckily, the boulder was just barely beyond our clearance, and we were going slow enough that nothing broke. If I had had to replace the axle , I might have broken his nose as compensation.

  39. shanked extra point.

  40. Count me in as a guy who loves the snow. It's good to be back in the Noog, but I'm missing Denver and Colorado skiing a ton right now.

I'm in Charlotte right now and am just missing out on the NC snowfest, so that's kind of a bummer as well. Just a ton of cold rain down this way.

  41. Beetlejuice now JGT? Can't wait for the history of Howard Stern part III on Monday...lots of substance today, albeit of the crappy variety...it is what it is I suppose.

  42. From previous thread ...

DMiller ... you told me to to eat it for you. So I did. Sorry.

  43. I was driving on I-40 going from Knoxville to Nashville about 5 years ago when there was a hard snow fall. Suddenly there was 5 or 6 inches of snow. I was in my Dodge Intrepid. I did okay by crawling along the entire trip, about doubling the time, but what amazed me was the number of 4WDs I passed that were off the road in the ditch. I passed around a dozen cars that were stuck and I bet half of them were 4WDs. Somehow I think the 4WD gives people too much a sense of security. I will take crawling along in my Intrepid any day. Sure, it took me at least twice as long to make the trip, but it beats sitting in a ditch.

  46. Chris Henry's girlfriend's myspace status mentions her just getting the wedding ring. You don't get much more sad than that. Unfortunately things like Chris' death happen to remind us all of what is truly important. Many, including myself, get in these idiotic screaming matches. When consequences like this turn up, it really makes you think.

  47. so was chizik's statement about smith a half-truth?

I guess I mean, is he on the team in name only and becomes another blackmon?

  48. I just saw a tweet where Lil Wayne has been detained in texas when they found pot on his bus. Just one question. What is a Lil Wayne? Is he like a Minnie Duke or something?
