My final regular-season AP poll

Hey everyone. Top of the mornin' to you.

During a long, dark drive home from Atlanta, I pondered my poll. I now have produced my opinions into written form. It goes like this:

1. Alabama
2. Texas
3. TCU
4. Cincinnati
5. Boise State
6. Florida
7. Ohio State
8. Oregon
9. Georgia Tech
10. Virginia Tech
11. Iowa
12. Penn State
13. BYU
14. Nebraska
15. LSU
16. Oregon State
17. Miami Florida
18. Oklahoma State
19. Utah
20. West Virginia
21. Pittsburgh
22. Arizona
23. Stanford
24. Texas Tech
25. Houston

*I thought about putting TCU at No. 2, but it's hard to demote Texas after running the table in a more difficult conference. I'd rather see Alabama-TCU in Pasadena. Honestly, I don't think it's going to matter. Alabama, who I've had at No. 1 for seven weeks, is the best team and it's not close.

*I moved Iowa up again. You know it was tough for me. They're 10-2 and their body of work is more impressive than Penn State's.

*I refuse to drop Nebraska after their game against Texas. They won. I saw it.

  2. I am a longhorn for the next month and a half...

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm liked the Longhorns all my life... and I will keep hope alive that they will beat the tar out of Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I can't really argue with your rankings, Jay. They seem pretty darn fair, but for no other reason than a belly laugh, you should have Penn State one spot ahead of Iowa:)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Texas lost the game. I saw it!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Good Poll..

    I'm excited about Bama/Texas...

We've never won a game against them. Time for that to change.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jay,

You were one of the early believers when it comes to Alabama.

    Good call.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ingram is gonna win the Heisman and Alabama is gonna win the National Championship.....I'm moving back to California.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh it won't be that bad zookeeper.

    ReplyDelete
  10. At least I am a little insulated from it in Auburn, I would hate to be an Auburn fan in Bammerham right about now though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. FSJ, have you ever met your bammer Brethren?

    ReplyDelete
  12. You really do not deserve a vote in any poll.
Houston loses to East Carolina and you still have Houston at No. 25, but didn't move ECU into the poll?
Wisconsin wins 51-10 over a desperate Hawaii team needing a win for bowl eligibility, and it wasn't even close. It was almost like watching a state champion high school team play a bad JV team. Almost unfair how much better Wisconsin was.
Texas and Cincinnati needed luck, and in Texas' part, some help from the officials, to win. TCU has been the most dominant and impressive team all season long against a schedule that included wins over Virginia, at Clemson, and over ranked MWC foes Utah and BYU. You say you think TCU-Alabama would be a better game, and one you'd want to see, then vote that way.
Don't just vote the way you think people would expect you to vote.
Actually show some guts and vote the way you know you should vote.

  13. Whoa Ron....

Put down the crying towel for just a moment...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ron, I'd like to see Jenna Fischer clad only in a towel at my house.

    That also won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ashley Judd too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'd be OK with a Fischer-Judd tandem.

    Absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How's the Heisman ballot coming along, JayG?
You have Toby Gerhardt and Ndamukong Suh 1-2, or is it vice versa?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love it, LOVE IT when disgruntled fans from other schools come here to post.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Waker...

    I've met em...

To be honest there's not a bit of difference between Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee or LSU fans. We all have our good and bad fans.

There are more Bama fans in certain parts of the state so that probably magnifies the bad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Me too Norm..

    Whining about East Carolina? Really?

They played the championship game AT HOME..

Glad Alabama has never done that... I kid.

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL D. Miller...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Mr. Clements, Virginia, at Clemson, and over ranked MWC foes Utah and BYU are not impressive wins. Heck, Clempson got beat by South Carolina, one of the weaker SEC teams. Utah and BYU are from the MWC, as you state, a very weak conference. Your post is filled with stupidity.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And I don't want to even begin to discuss the level of brain dysfunction required to include Virginia in that list.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Steve is absolutely owning the ECU whiner...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey, check out Whiner Clements profile. It seems he's also a sportswriter. Albeit for some town I've never heard of previously. So, I guess he's got that going for him. Which is not necessarily nice.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't know if this is right or not but I read that UF's backs (excluding Mr. Zookeeper-Tebow) only ran the ball FOUR times yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It just makes me smile when someone from ECU comes here whining about where they aren't ranked.

    Outstanding stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jay, could you write an article for the news paper entitled why Texas should be ranked over TCU, even though TCU beat Virginia?

P.S. If you do, could you describe the laughter you receive from your editor when you attempt to get him to publish it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. By the way, the officials made the right call with the clock in the Texas game. Nebraska, hate it for you, but grow up and stop whining. Welcome to reality.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Steve..

    I agree..

There was one second left when the official blew the play dead.

With that said...how badly would McCoy and Mack Brown have been skewered today had time actually expired?

Amazing. I was screaming at the television..

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous11:43 AM

tx had 1 second left, but the refs hosed neb all game on PI calls on clearly uncatchable balls. ihate bama too but man, they look good

    ReplyDelete
  32. Just to point out a bit of ironic irony, I just read the following.

"The Al Groh era at Virginia has officially come to an end."

Now, why in the world would they fire a coach of such a great team. I mean, after all, they won, what, about 3 games.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow. Watching a nice story about Demarcus Ware on ESPN now. I wasn't aware of this part of his life. He and his wife endured 1 miscarriage and 2 stillborns. Then were able to adopt a healthy baby girl. That hits a little close to home for me. Whether you're a parent with a DNA connection to your child or via adoption (I have one of each), be thankful for what you have. Many people don't have what you do.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bear,

My buddies and I were discussing Nebraska's strategy on their last offensive drive. Their third down call was strictly playing for a FG. I would have tried to at least win the game with at least one attempt for a first down.

They left too much time....which combined with a stupid kickoff and horsecollar penalty allowed Texas to win.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous11:47 AM

after yesterday, question about the iron bowl... was uat looking past us? were we really that good friday and just that bad vs ky, ark,and uga? crazy year..

    ReplyDelete
  36. Texas was dumb to have let the clock get that close. Yes, they came close to having a Les Miles moment. But the call was good. Nebraska lost. All they had to do was keep Texas out of field goal range and they didn't.

As for bad calls from the officials, it is a part of the game. If you can't stomach bad calls, you may want to become a chess fan.

    ReplyDelete
  37. When does the BCS show start today?

I'm interested to see how this all shakes out.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Steve - that was probably your best post ever. Chess fan. Classic.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous11:50 AM

yeah, fsj.. when are coaches going to tell their kickers to squib it in the middle near the end of the game- notgive it to the opponent at the 40? chances of a long ko return less likely than ball at the 40=fg

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bear,

I have a theory that I have shared with a few hotties..

I think it is a combination of things..

    1) There's just something about Alabama/Auburn at JHS. Outside of 2001 Auburn has ALWAYS played hard and for the most part well against us there. It's almost like the fans WILL the home team to victory.

    2) Auburn finally had a chance to get some rest prior to the game.

    3) Malzahn had an excellent gameplan to start with. After the first quarter we settled down on Defense with the exception of the one long throw.

    4) I suspect that Alabama was a little flat for whatever reason. I could tell a big difference in looking at the teams before the game. Auburn seemed much more energized.

    5) Auburn's defense has played better later in the season, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bear, I think UAT was looking past us. There were some of our standard plays that just worked too well for me to believe Bama was focused on us.

Also, I do believe we were much better against Bama than against LSU, Ark, Ky because of the extra week off. This team got worn down during the season. So many of the players on defense played way to many snaps. Stevens and Bynes deserve a lot of respect for what they did this season.

Yes, we are good. We are better than we appeared against LSU, Ark, and KY. But I do beleive we had an advantage over Bama because of their focus. After wall, we had four losses. They had to have their minds elsewhere.

That being said, this was one of the best prepared teams I have seen at Auburn. I look forward to seeing what ChizCo does next season. Depth will not be nearly as much of a program, but youth will be.

steve, kasparov vs big blue was a great match...except for the scoring judge. he missed a castle, an illegal knight jump, and a hold on the pawn in E4

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous11:55 AM

i agree with both posts, fsj and stevefc.. great points

    ReplyDelete
  44. In my humble opinion, the national championship game was yesterday and Bama won clearly. As I have always said, the SEC championship is more impressive than the NC anyways, because it is won on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous12:00 PM

It sucks to be Nebraska today but the officals made the correct call.

The UT play was stupidity incarnate. Had the pass been complete short of the endzone or even thrown incomplete a little further downfield, time would have expired.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay G,

Ron's right. He's covered minor league soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  47. And an even more bizarre thought...How did TCU do in their conference championship game? Wait, they didn't play in a conference championship and you want to penalize Texas for winning their's? Ummm, right.

Well, maybe TCU ended their season against a quality opponent just as good as Nebraska. Let me look that one up.

Ah, here it is. They beat New Mexico in their season finally. Okay, who is better, New Mexico or Nebraska? They are both states, so they must be pretty even, huh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous12:03 PM

If there was 16 (and maybe in an 8) team playoff, yesterday's game would have counted only for seeding.

I'd still like to see what happens to TCU and Cincy in a playoff.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous12:04 PM

The SEC game, not the Big 12.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I hear echos of Hawaii and that Hawaii team that should have been in the national championship game. After all, they were undefeated. They got screwed, right? TCU, welcome to Hawaii's world. Be glad you probably won't face Florida in the Sugar Bowl. If you do, you may do nearly as well as Hawaii did against Georgia. Welcome to major college football.

    Love,
    Steve

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would like to see a playoff, but one of the things I would like to see is strength of schedule come into play when deciding who gets in. In would discourage schools from scheduling the cupcakes.

I go by a computer ranking. According to the computer Texas has two wins over top 25 teams, Ok State and Nebraska. TCU has one, BYU. Texas has six wins over teams in the top 50. TCU had 3. Texas had a strength of schedule of 0.52, while TCU was at 0.45. The Nebraska game wasn't even figured in the Texas strength of schedule. TCU looses on every count.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Florida coach Urban Meyer was hospitalized after last night's SEC Championship Game.
    http://fb.me/3DZLGNi

Apparently he was having chest pains... He didn't seem 'right' yesterday during the game. I wonder if he was experiencing issues during the game? (not game related)

Or, did it finally set in that Timmy will be gone next season?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ashley Judd's body of work is impressive, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  54. So when do you have to have your Heisman ballot in Jay G?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope Meyer is doing okay. After all, this is just a game.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Steve, I'll disagree. The computers will always favor the big conferences. That's why I hoped Nebraska would win. It was TCU's only hope. Football is a game played by people. Screw the computers.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jet, I offer you Hawaii as proof that teams such as TCU are just not on the same level. They don't play the grueling schedule. Heck, if Auburn played in the ACC we would have had a very good chance of being undefeated this season. Either you play top ranked opponents or you don't. TCU doesn't. Hate it for them.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think everyone should have to take a shot of Nyquil on a daily basis. It just makes the world a little friendlier place. And no... not the crappy on the shelf Nyquil, but the good stuff that you have to show your ID to the pharmacist to get. I love you all... Good Day.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You offer Hawaii, I offer Utah and Boise State, homes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. j-z remains my hero of the hotties...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Take a look at TCU's schedule. If Auburn played that schedule, how many games do you think we would loose? One? Two maybe? Basically TCU gets the nod because they beat one good team, BYU? Or possibly two, Utah? Nope, sorry. Thanks for playing.

    ReplyDelete
  62. You think Utah was a better team than Bama? You think Boise State was better than Oklahoma? Yes, they won those games, but those were exceptions rather than the rule. I would argue that the better team lost both of those games, and note that the Hawaii/Georgia game was not even close. There is no arguing that Hawaii was actually better.

    ReplyDelete
  63. So.... how about the Braves? Trying to shore up their bullpen I see....

    ReplyDelete
  64. You are fixated on Hawaii, which ran into the team that was probably the best at the end of the year. Simply, that Hawaii was a nice team but not ready for prime time.

TCU is a much superior team than that Hawaii team.I believe they are one of the best 4 in the nation and maybe even in the top 3. I'm sorry they won't get their chance. It's not their fault on the schedule -- that's league driven. You are right in that a playoff is the answer. Computer involvement, though, is not the path.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree that a playoff is needed and the national championship is basically a joke, but TCU will get a chance to prove their point. Lets see who they end up playing and how they do.

Okay, you don't like Hawaii. Lets try Texas Tech. After all, they played a tougher schedule than TCU last season and even beat Texas. They got spanked by Ole Miss, the best, I mean, a team in the SEC.

TCU would likely match up better against Bama, but as for being more deserving of an NC, they are not. They are not more deserving than Texas. They are not more deserving than Boise State or Cincinnati. Heck, either of those two would be great opponents for them in a bowl game.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you go undefeated in a BCS conf you deserve a shot at the MNC. You go undefeated in a non BCS conf, you deserve to play in a BCS bowl... maybe.

Don't like it? Find your way into a big conf.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I would love to see TCU face either Boise or Cinncy. This would be a good Bowl Game.

The reason Santa Clause is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live.

Qoute from radio and TV commentator Denise Miller

    ReplyDelete
  68. How about just skip the Nyquil and have a shot of liquor instead?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I would hate the Boise-TCU bowl game. What would that prove to us. I want to see TCU play a good team, and we can see what they do against a real big conf team... they haven't played one all year.

    ReplyDelete
  70. SteveFC - Despite your EIGHT posts bashing TCU today (why don't you go for an even dozen so we can figure out what point you are trying to make), TCU is the best team in the country. I've said that for most of the season, and I still do. And unless you can get rid of the BS in BCS, you can't prove me wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Wake, I kind of agree. Although if you aren't in a major conference, add a couple of big games against teams from a major conference and prove your point. Play a Texas or Oklahoma. Play Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn. Play Arizona or USC. Heck, play Iowa, Wisconsin, or Penn State. Even Michigan State.

Sorry, but I see nothing on the TCU schedule that impresses me. The closest thing is a win over BYU. One game doesn't make a season. If you play a schedule of powder puffs, don't come looking for an NC and please don't brag about beating Virginia. I am going to pass out from laughing so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Now it's my turn to bash... What's in it for ESPN to so shamelessly promote Ingram for an award for which he is clearly undeserving? At every game they were televising, even in the studio. It made me want to puke.

    ReplyDelete
  73. THT, you believe TCU is the best team in the country. Why? What has impressed you? I see nothing impressive about them.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous1:00 PM

JGT: This might be a good time to post any/all detractor posts you may have received from around the country and then direct those folks to the
HABOTN for a response. SteveFC is in mid-season form yet loaded with a complete season of stats with which to hammer these detractors for ya.

    Delegate ..delegate ..delegate.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Tennessee's staff is getting raided hahahaha Frank Wilson WR coach to LSU

and Eddie Gran , THE Eddie Gran to the Seminoles of Florida State

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have to agree on Ingram. He is a good back, but there have been many better. I could list 15 to 20 backs that have played for Auburn that were better. Heck, Glenn Coffee looked better to me. Trent Richardson looked better too. I am not convinced that Ingram is even the best back on his team.

    ReplyDelete
  77. SteveFC - I don't think I've even watched TCU play more than a quarter this year. Why do I think they are #1? Just because.

...and you still can't prove I'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  78. One bad thing about attending a casual church...bammers all decked out in their horrible bama gear.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Is Eddie Gran really headed to FSU? I can't say I would be shocked. He is probably the best running backs coach in the SEC and Jimbo knows it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. typo on my part...Obviously TCU isn't #1... I think think they are the best team in the country and should be #1

    ReplyDelete
  81. jhag.... Orgeron may be heading back to USC also...

    ReplyDelete
  82. TCU is the only team int he country rated in the top 10 in both offense AND defense...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yaw Yaw back to USC?

    LOL. Outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Auburn is No. 1

It fans love for the team

In courage for this years play with 22 Iron men

    And just becaus they are.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Steve, I recall TCU Oklahoma a few years ago and after wearing their @$$e$ out, that's why Oklahoma's not on the sked. Scheduling, as you know, is a two-way deal, not a buffet at the Golden Corral.

I've watched them on TV 2-3 times. They are worthy of their ranking. Better than 10 teams in the SEC. They play defense, which is clearly different than Hawaii and Boise State examples provided.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Kritina-That is the worse.

We have 3 traditional services and 3 contemporay service each Sunday. Ssome folks wore their UA ball cap into the contemporary sanctuary. At least they take it off when they sit down. One dude last week wore a red tshirt with the script A, long red gym shorts with UA athletic dept on it and tennis shoes. I went to the traditional service that day.

    ReplyDelete
  87. TCU's schedule:

    Virginia
    Texas State
    Clemson
    SMU
    Air Force
    Colorado State
    BYU
    UNLV
    San Diego State
    Utah
    Wyoming
    New Mexico

Which of those teams would beat Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  88. And no I have not seen a single AU fan wear anything like that. Worst thing I've seen is the orange/blue AU tie.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah I just heard that too Pete is offering him all kinds of money to come back out there

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous1:12 PM

TCU is a good team that is fun to watch. Their players are small and fast and they played a very easy schedule. I can't imagine those players holding up against an SEC type schedule for a whole season.

TCu barely beat Clemson at a point in the schedule when Clemson wasn't even playing good yet.

Texas got lucky against a tuff Nebraska team. Bama got lucky against Tennesee. Auburn go tlucky agsinst LSU in 2004. Teams playing in tuff conferences sometimes need (or make) this luck.

I agree with JGT that Texas deserves to be #2.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Sounds like you need a church with a higher moral character, one that doesn't allow bammers.

TCU doesn't have any kind of argument. Their best out of conf game was against Clemson, which looks decent at first glance, except Clemson was in the middle of a 1-3 stretch including a loss to a PATHETIC Maryland team, not to mention the loss to a mid pack SEC team.

Sure BYU and Utah are decent teams, but def not enough to make up for the rest of their weak sauce schedule.

I like TCU, but they dont' deserve a shot at the championship.

On another note, they've had one top 50 recruiting class in the past 5 years. I know recruiting isn't everything, but Alabama, Texas, and even Cincy have much better athletes than TCU.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Lets put in a different way. Auburn has more impressive wins this season than TCU.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Why the fuss over scheduling? You do know they are made up a few years in advance. As JET states, yuo can't pick and chose which years you want to play the good teams or the easy teams. you play with waht you got. A lot of things depends on luck. It is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  94. FSJ - it depends on which AU you're talking about . We were so Jekyll & Hyde this year.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm just happy to see JGT leave Sou Cal out of the top 25. I hope others follow suite. HOw many ames did they have to lose before this happened four? Not many teams get this many chances. Just shows polls are beauty contest and thos with the most rouge stays up there.

    ReplyDelete
  96. wtc, in response to your question from a very old thread yesterday, you are the guru of recruiting non-followers!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Why am I watching professional bowling?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Our church is accepting of all kinds...

Although when a dude was joining today wearing a shirt with a big A on it, someone started clapping...our pastor immediately said "no clapping."

    ReplyDelete
  99. Do you think Bynes and/or Stevens would consider leaving early and trying out the NFL?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Kathy I don't think so they are not on the NFL radar.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Kristina-That is why it is easy to laugh at them. They did the same thing when Saban come on the screen in the movie. I wanted to punch a couple of them.

Personally I would have clapped for Sandra Bullock the whole movie.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anonymous1:21 PM

JHAG ..Don't talk about Eddie Gran, he is an awful coach. I know because I read that countless times on the HABOTN during and after the 2008 season. The HABOTN knows all and never apologizes or admits mistakes. I remember reading that Gran was on that shabby AU coaching staff that never acomplished anything and just slacked off waiting around to get tenure in the Ala. teacher's retirement system.

    ReplyDelete
  103. When you consider someone for a national championship you have to consider their entire body of work, not just one or two games. If we played a couple of good teams and a lot of cupcakes, we would have had a very good chance of being undefeated.

Compare victories over Utah and BYU with victories over West Virginia and Tennessee. I would call it pretty even. Go past 2 games and it gets even more ridiculous. Clempson? South Carolina beat Clempson. The ACC is an entertaining conference because there is a lot of parity, but they are far from being one of the top conferences.

    ReplyDelete
  104. So im hearing FSU is going after Kirby Smart as well...awesome

    ReplyDelete
  105. HA good one hoopie, Eddie Gran was Tuberville's saving grace

    ReplyDelete
  106. Bynes and Stevens would be crazy to head to the NFL. They wouldn't be considered top draft choices. They should stick around and hope for a great season next season. Their starting positions have to be considered pretty darn secure.

    ReplyDelete
  107. FSU having a big coaching shakeup?
    Not suprising at all.

    ReplyDelete
  108. FSJ - I have no idea. UNC vs Stanford soccer for women's NCC championship is much better than bowling.

    ReplyDelete
  109. There cleaning house at FSU they are going to make some big time hires, watch

    ReplyDelete
  110. Eddie Gran is a very good coach, although I do think him leaving was what was best for Auburn. Team chemistry trumps a good coach every time. I hate Gran had to leave, but ChizCo did the right thing letting him go. Auburn was changing philosophy and Luper fit in nicely with the philosophy.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Steve,

I don't like what you write.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sounds like a personal problem to me.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Steve,

I don't always like what you write, I've generally agreed with you today, so today I do.

    ReplyDelete
  114. So Texas got 4 first place votes in the coaches poll, how high were the people who voted them 1st over bama?

    ReplyDelete
  115. I usually don't like what he writes either

    ReplyDelete
  116. I think we can all agree that the system for picking a nation champ is flawed.

I have read where TCU will play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Both teams are undefeated. Will the winner of that game be any less deserving of the National Title? Based upon the current system, yes, but it is a shame they are given a chance to prove it on the field.

Also, Cincinnati will likely play Florida in the Sugar Bowl. Should Cincinnati win, should they be considered for the national title?

The national championship is really a myth.

Who was the national champ in 2004? USC. Was Auburn the better team? It is very possible, but we will never know. I do believe Auburn versus USC would have been much closer than that ridiculous Oklahoma game.

    ReplyDelete
  117. So, did Auburn deserve the snub in 2004?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Official: Tennessee WR coach Frank Wilson hired by LSU...

I hope they keep their grubby hands off Trooper.

    ReplyDelete
  119. It was because we were Auburn not UF or Bama (bigger names)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Auburn getting snubbed in 2004 was baffling. Oklahoma nearly lost several games. My memory is poor, but I believe Texas A&M nearly knocked them off.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Dmiller they are losing 3 coaches as of now, Frank Wilson to LSU Eddie Gran to FSU and most likely Coach O to USC

    hahahhahahaahahaa

    ReplyDelete
  122. I am glad we don't seem to be loosing any coaches. That is one of the things that is tough about college football these days, keeping a staff together. Loosing coordinators was always Tuberville's biggest problem.

I am not terribly surprised we haven't lost any coaches so far, but after next season it could get interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Here is an article about the Tennessee coaching exodus.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anonymous1:57 PM

Sounds like Kiffy is having trouble keeping them happy.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I really don't see Kiffikin being a big success in the SEC. He just doesn't have the personality I like to see in a head coach. While he will have some success, I doubt Tennessee will consistently be an SEC powerhouse, at least not anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Dan Cater made the cut to the TOP 10 Friday night in the Auburn Idol Contest. We are all very proud of Dan. His number; I Don't Wanna Be by Gavin Degraw. Dan teaches Chizik's twins and Taylors daughter. They all attended the last session cut.

    ReplyDelete
  127. SteveFC, absolutely right. The system remains seriously flawed and the NC is still mythical. Which is why it is so easy for me to claim TCU is the best team in the country. TCU isn't given the opportunity to prove me wrong.

I've seen a lot more of Cincinnati and, even though they are undefeated, I would never claim they should be #1. No team that can't play defense would get my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  128. UNC wins Women's NCAA Soccer championship. Their 20th.

    ReplyDelete
  129. congrats to your offspring, Ed.

    ReplyDelete
  130. THT, even if they did get the chance to prove it and win, Steve, and the thousands like him, would say the best team lost.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Any recruiting news today? We had a big week of coaching visits and some good reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Tanks PF. You met him at the IB tailgate on the green.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yep, remember him. Nice guy. Hope he wins.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I agree on Cincinnati, THT. They weren't exactly impressive against Pittsburg.

I do think these teams deserve the chance to prove us right or wrong, though.

    ReplyDelete
  135. UNC beat Stanford 1-0. The Cardinal scored two goals, each negated by legitimate offsides calls.

(previously) Undefeated teams are 0-8 against UNC all-time in NCAA tournament.

I'm guessing nobody cares, so no more UNC soccer comments.

    ReplyDelete
  136. 13 people (out of 60) still are ranking Southern Cal.

    Baffling.

    ReplyDelete
  137. THT: We watched the first half, saw UNC's awesome goal early, and I'm glad you discussed it.

    ReplyDelete
  138. really? Because you just were saying that Utah wasn't the better team in the Sugar bowl last year, even though they had a very clear victory. Why? Because their conference and schedule doesn't get your seal of approval...since you've disparaged TCU's schedule, I can only assume you'd continue with that same argument. To say otherwise would be to contradict yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  139. SteveFC is the HABOTN pick-em national champion, proven on the field of play.

...and TCU is the best college football team in the country ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  140. USC is an interesting case. In terms of talent, they should be ranked. Reality is a different matter.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I haven't bothered to change the channel yet. ESPN now showing some European soccer about which I care not.

But it does prove that soccer players would make terrible outfielders. Not only do they not know how to use their arms, but it amazes me how often they misjudge the soccer equivalent of "fly balls."

    ReplyDelete
  142. and they did beat the buckeyes in the former horseshoe

    ReplyDelete
  143. THT, you are actually one of the ones that was coming on strong at pickem. You had an excellent day yesterday.

I did well by coming in 3rd, 4th, or 5th most weeks. Yea, I think I may have won the week a couple of times. It just takes consistency.

The Auburn Insiders were also very tough competition.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I think I'd load my Top Ten with TCU, Tx, UA-T, UF, Boise St, Cinci, LSU, and some PAC10 teams. No Weak Ten(11) team could even get a sniff the top ten.

    ReplyDelete
  145. By they way, anyone got any idea why USC turned into such a flop. Sure, the QB position explains some of it, but their defense was bad at times too. A large part of it may be changes in staff, but I don't follow them closely.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I don't know about LSU. I considered them a bit overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Oregon has a very good team. I think they are the best the PAC-10 has to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Request for help:

I'm doing my All-SEC team ballot.

Which OLs and DLs really stuck out to you this season? Stump for your favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I think that Antonio Coleman guy is pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  150. The Pac-10 agrees, and will be sending them to the Rose Bowl for proving it on the field...

    ReplyDelete
  151. Terrence Cody and Antonio Coleman come to mind.

Offensively, Auburn's offensive line turned out much better, but I don't think any of them are deserving of all SEC honors.

    ReplyDelete
  152. JGT - I regret that I cannot, in good conscience, stump for my favorites. Unlike TCU, my favorites in this situation are not deserving.

    ReplyDelete
  153. PF, the PAC-10 sends a team to the Rose Bowl every year. That doesn't mean that team is deserving of a top 10 ranking, although I do think Oregon is. They looked horrible against Boise State early, but got much better as the season went on.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I wonder if the grad assit. that Weis mentioned is the same one that votes in the coaches poll for Pete Carrol?

    ReplyDelete
  155. Notre Dame played 4 PAC-10 teams this season. They should try scheduling 4 SEC teams.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I'd love to hit "Mount Fat Cody" in the face with a shovel.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Wow, some people really dislike college kids.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I'd rather pay him a bunch of money to tell all about the cheating going on at UA-T.

ok, FSJ, I'm just kidding. In all honesty, I'd rather pay him only $5 to tell all about the cheating going on at UA-T ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  159. Hook 'em Horns!!!! Sending out buckets of Crimson Hate! Plus Bonus Hate for Saban.

    ReplyDelete
  160. OL
    I don't really know...
The guys from Arkansas who pushed us around all game long.

    DL
    Antonio Coleman- Auburn
    Dan Williams -Tennessee
    Terrence Cody - Alabama
    Carlos Dunlap - Florida

    ReplyDelete
  161. I think I would take a look at the MSU offensive line. Those guys had a heck of a running game this season.

    ReplyDelete
  162. By the way, I do think Dan Mullen should be in the running for coach of the year. MSU turned into a pretty darn good team in comparison to where they had been.

    ReplyDelete
  163. see, my response was to your comment "Oregon has a very good team. I think they are the best the PAC-10 has to offer." That comment didn't mention anything about them being top-10. Thanks for the history lesson, though. Without it, I might forget about how the Rose Bowl works.

    ReplyDelete
  164. They still won 5 games Steve, only one more than they won last year... I don't think so.

I think it has to be Saban or Chiz

    ReplyDelete
  165. Yea, but look at who they lost to and how close it was. They played a lot of teams much closer than anyone ever expected. They were respectable against teams like LSU, Florida, and Ole Nutt. Mullen achieved more than I thought he could with that team.

It is hard to not pick Saban. Like him or not, two undefeated SEC regular seasons in a row is impressive.

As for Chizik, we ended up doing about as good as I expected. Yes, he did a much better job than many people thought he would. I am not sure I would consider him the SEC coach of the year though. That Ark, LSY, KY stretch really hurt, especially KY.

    ReplyDelete
  166. As for flops, Ole Nutt has to win the award with Bobby Johnson very close behind.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I agree Mullen did a pretty good job, but I think giving it to any coach who is no bowl eligible is a stretch. Also last year we beat MSU 3-2, this year we blew them out. That right there would point to Chiz over Mullen, although they seemed to improve over the season more than we did.

    ReplyDelete
  168. How can Bobby Johnson be considered a flop? Vandy wasn't expected to do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Bobby Johnson went to and won a bowl game last year, goin 4-4 in the SEC. He lost went 2-10 goin 0-8 in the SEC this year.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Pouncey Bro's

who you putting for first team QB Mallett?

    ReplyDelete
  171. I've not seen a better SEC QB this year than one playing yesterday. Makes me want to puke.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Anonymous3:30 PM

Skins and Saints going to OT.

    ReplyDelete
  173. That stretch in the middle of the season was to bad to give it to McElroy.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I probably don't give the Kentucky heach coach enough credit, but man, Kentucky.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Yeah, and Vandy was predicted to finish last in the SEC east. Their season in 2008 was an anomaly and they lost key players and leaders on both sides of the ball.

Vandy is still Vandy no matter what they did in 2008. 2009 was just Vandy correcting itself.

    ReplyDelete
  176. As for ChizCo, remember that we weren't nearly as bad as we appeared last season. We were actually picked to win the west. It took one of the most incredibly inept coaching meltdowns to give us a loosing record.

    ReplyDelete
  177. wow... I didn't expect the Skins to hang with the Saints today...

    ReplyDelete
  178. "As for ChizCo, remember that we weren't nearly as bad as we appeared last season."

That's good because we appeared to be awful.
